Here’s the thing Karen. People want to hear you talk while you do your art bc we love you. You are like an essential worker in this Covid world. When I want to feel less alone in the evening I know you are there for me teaching me a new technique or tempting me to buy these wonderful inks to play with. We see and feel your love and humanity. You make me feel better about me. You tell me to love myself when I’ve messed up my art and cheer me on. You are love. 💕✊🏾
Aww Susan, you're totally going to make me cry! I love this community and am grateful to have this outlet as well and will always cheer you guys on. This strange Covid world can be so isolating, but we all have each other. I'm just happy I can provide some laughs, some knowledge, and some fun through this channel. Thank you for your endless support!
Purple Martin is so special. So interesting to see how much you’ve embraced pan pastels since this video. I remember you adding a yellow to another woman’s eye and I was mesmerized by the effect.
Karen you have the best personality. Love the video. And yes you always get back and respond to your viewers comments. Thank you for that. So many never do. Love the girl and those crazy pan pastels. Never tried them or the ink. Have a great evening. ❤
I love all your girl faces, especially the Art Deco girl! I’m obsessed with the Art Deco style and I would love to see you do a video on drawing the women of this era! Thank you so much for your videos, I’ll keep watching😊
And you’re cute. And you allow yourself to be vulnerable. And you’re funny, a wonderful teacher, generous, authentic, etc.. This project is great! Don’t you love shopping your stash and finding something great like these pan pastels? I saw how that beige covered the red of her cheeks. So cool that the colors all work with your inks. Your girl’s skin looks so pretty. I love when you painted her hair with that luscious blue ink. I think I’ll get 1 bottle.🤷♀️😂. Thanks for sharing this video with us Karen. Your girl looks lovely. You are lovely.✊🏾💕
I have been wondering how these worked!! Looks really great I will have to give it a try!! And I like to hear your voice as well, you always make me smile!!
Love your work,! I always appreciate your descriptions of the products you use and how they respond and interact with other products. I am always learning something new from you. Thank you for creating these videos ❤️
Lol , I really am happy to hear your tutorials. I love your energy and enthusiasm for teaching. I ordered your first book and am so excited, I cannot wait for it to arrive. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent with this wannabe.
Karen Karen Karen where have you been girl????? Pan pastels are awesome and you can layer pencils over the top I do it all the time they are delicious I'm buying myself more colours next week for my birthday need some more shade colours looooooove them ❤️she is gorgeous as usual and don't you dare do videos without talking love your videos partly because your sooooo funny and informative and probably one of the coolest artist on you tube and THE WORLD!!!! 💖❤️Tanya xx
Thank you soooo much for doing the voice over! I love to listen to you!!!!!!! This was a great video. I have Jane Davenports pallet pastels and I didn't know what I could use them with. I will try the ink now. Thank you for the video Karen!!!!😀
Hi Karen, hope everything great in your corner of this world. I have the basic set of Pan Pastels & I catch myself overdoing it because I just love playing with the colors & how they feel. I would love to see you do more with them. But only if they bring you joy. TYFS
Been watching your tutorials for a few years now Karen as your probably aware, your voice ain't annoying and you as you once said go on about your chubby fingers. Stop knocking yourself your funny, smart, and very creative, you have given and helped so many people with your tutorials. Have a good weekend Karen hope you and your family are doing ok. Keep being your kick ass self. Love from the uk as always 😁😁👍😘
Aw you are such a darling and your videos just wouldn't be the same with music instead of your gorgeous voice. It's as though you are in the room and talking to each one of us personally. I was interested to see how you coped with those Pan Pastels and ink and they were perfect together, not so sure about the copic white paint though lol, that looked like a nightmare. I believe I heard you say you couldn't apply anything over the Pan Pastels once they were down on paper (or I may have heard wrong) but I have seen Dede Willingham, who uses these profusely in her art, and she uses Prisma pencils over the top to enhance the shading. Tfs xo
Hi Karen, Would you do or have a hair shading guide like your face shading guide, your face one has given me the courage to colour the face and I’m getting quite confident with that, but now I’m stuck on hair, xxx
You're not alone!! And for that I dedicate 44 pages in my How to Draw and Find your Style book, JUST on hair!!! That being said, there isn't really shading practices for it. So much depends on what medium your drawing with, the hairstyle, where the light source is, etc. I do have a playlist of all the hair drawing videos (7 so far) if that helps! And check out my book I just mentioned, that sucker has become a drawing bible for a LOT of people! Here's the link to the playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLn5mGTkPuQK5p75gHeMq2RGniKE4d01Hw.html
@@katscraftcreation you're so fine!!! Make sure you check out my new Drawing TH-cam channel too, I have a bunch of hair tutorials coming up! Http://bit.ly/karendraws
You probably know this but you can spray a workable fixative on the pan pastel and then use colored pencil on top. I like pastels and am always looking for new ways to use them. Thanks for the video
Yeah, after I recorded this I actually took a sponge brush and smeared Mod Podge all over the page to see what would happen and ya know what?! NOTHING MOVED!! So actually the fixative isn't necessary with the PanPastels, they really don't move much at all (as opposed to soft, which are stupid and never sit still which is reason #45 why I hate them!! lol!!)
what a lovely surprise... and lots of karen giggles.. I LOVE it!! :) the pan pastels make her skin so smoooth!! i always looked at them in the shops.. when i could shop centuries ago.. lol and think um, kid finger paint pastel but wow those colours are so vibrant.. and yummy. what havent you experimented with yet? :)
I have all the products used except the copic white. I love this. My Pan Pastels are waiting to be used...bought years ago. We are doing a landscaping project when I'm not at work but once that is completed I'd love to try this technique. Thanks for sharing it. BTW have you tried spraying workable fixative over the pastels & then use other media on top?
Perhaps using a dip pen with the Copic acrylic ink would work to make small dots and lines.... Thank you for posting this about the pastels. I have drawers full of both soft and oil pastels and want to learn more about using them.
Hi Karen, You know I think you are the best thing since sliced bread and I loooove to hear you describe things. I do send you weird comments by pm, but I want to say it here. We watch to learn of course but I watch to see all the funny daft/goofy things you say and do. They are what makes you so precious. I can't look at my laminator = which I bought because if Karen has one oh boy I must need it = oh no it's still in the box so what do you do with it and if you don't mind me asking do you have trouble coping when you don't know where it is ????!!!! And I love it when you say the information above and you point to the wrong side! So my lovely you talk away and point where you want and do whatever you do with your laminator because thats why we love you. To put Covid in perspective it must be hard for people who can go out but don't, I have only been out of BEDROOM once since January and that was for surgery. I can't get up because I am waiting for my wheelchair (not one that you get from the pharmacy this has to be made specially for me and the functions I need) If my hasband goes out and forgets to get me drinis etc. I have to wait until someone walks through the front door! So I literally do everything in my bedroom and quite frankly it has been over a year now but it is my opportunity to draw/paint etc. and I love it. So talk away, sing if you want to! because we love you for it.
Lorraine, you are amazing! Thank you for your kind words, I am so happy to have you as a part of this community. Covid is awful, but I know there are people like you that handle being home without a choice. You have so much grace, and are an inspiration. It sounds like you are making lemonade with your lemons and taking this time to work on your art. I'm so glad I can provide some laughs with my silliness. Thank you for all of your love and support!
Oooh how juicy are those inks 😍 Your videos always inspire (entice lol) me to seek new products hee hee No matter what the tool, you make magic with it gorgeous ☄🙏💓 I am so grateful to be on the other end of your beautiful loving heart xx P.s Since you asked 😉...do you know if Helmar professional acid free archival glue would be an appropriate substitute for Liquitex Matte medium on bottom layer? And/Or instead of mod podge? Just checking xx Have a magically INspired week 🎨😇🖼
Thank you so much Sherilyn!!! Super appreciate your kind words! I’m afraid I am not familiar with that glue! You can absolutely try it tho, why not!? Would be a fun test experiment!!! And if you do, let me know how it goes!
Sorry Karen I wanted to say that I love my PanPastels. I use them most times as an underpainting so that I know my colours scheme and they mix easily and if I don't like them then just lift them off. The are absolutely gorgeous. Just a note if you can't afford these pastels. Try one of the Jane Davenport pastel selections they are absolutely intermixable. She has a little a little video on how to reconstitute a pastel if it breaks apart.
I have some Jane Davenport pastel palettes is that comparable to this brand you used? Haven’t used in a long time, I’m sure I’m rusty so will be good to dig those out. *love how it turned out - Happy 4th ❤️🤍💙
Thank you!!! I honestly have no idea but it seems like they'd be the craft grade version so they probably work exactly the same (but I don't have them so I can't be 100% sure!)
I was sitting here with my hubby watching this and showing him what you were doing and we were both fascinated! I have some of those pan pastels and like you have never opened the containers but I will now! See...watching this video I learned something new and I am so excited to use the pastels now. You are a very talented lady and you must have thousands of ideas rolling around in your head! I envy your talent! I do have to buy some pens and am wondering what kind to go with. I do love the boldness of that ink! It certainly made your art very striking! Thank you for all you show us on your channel! Right now we need all the diversion we can get!! 😊💕🌷
Thanks so much, Jeanette! Definitely open up those containers and play with them. I'm glad I was able to get you excited to try them out, and hopefully provided some distraction from all of the craziness happening in the world right now.
