😂 Love it!! I think it helps having the Senneliers be smoother and in smaller sticks than my Paul Rubens, but it's a bit of a pain to keep going in and adding more and more detail. That's why I said at the end I need to try a larger sized piece next time so that getting detail is easier!
Congratulations on your 100th video! 🎉🎉This picture is lovely, thanks for sharing. It really does show how you need to push through the ‘ugly’ phase to produce a beautiful work of art. Could you/would you do something similar with Neocolor 2’s. It would be great to see how they compare to oil pastels with this kind of picture. 😊
Thank you! I think that's one thing I'm really learning this year with my trying to get braver at art experiment - that (usually) you can get most things to a decent result if you keep going! I'll try and have a go with the Neocolor 2's, but I can't promise it will be any time soon - I only really manage to do what I really really feel like doing!
Helen, if you haven't had a chance to try some pastel specific surfaces much, consider getting some sanded pastel paper (UArt ends up being economical because you can actually stick it under the faucet, wash off a practice piece, let the paper dry, and re-use it) and some Hannemuhle velour paper. The UArt stains some, but treat it as an underlayer. It sure takes the sting out of the cost of sanded paper to be able to use a piece over and over! You'd enjoy a play session with both using all your soft pastels, not just the pans. I have this little addiction to using velour paper and pan pastels to play with very simple still,life/fruits and it is good for pet portraits. I am very budget conscious but boy, sanded papers sure take a lot of layers of pastel compared to watercolor paper. It was almost like using a new medium! You live in a beautiful part of the world with all those great coastal scenes!
Thank you for the advice! I have some Canson Mi teintes, but really like Pastelmat most. I also have some Uart sanded paper, but have only used it with pencils so far. I also have some pastel grounds to use with mount board.
Oh wow... just saw a video on using pan pastels on the gelli plate so wanted to research them a bit as I dont have any...yet. I knew exactly who to turn to. Wonderful work. I love the way you can get back the whites... This is worrying lol 😅
Thanks! I don't use them very much at all, but I still love them - beautiful things in their own right! I figured it's a similar technique to where you splodge watercolour on first with no line drawing, then go in after with more detail.
Helen you are an inspiration. I have a small amount of pan pastels and lots of pastel pencils, I would never have thought I could mix oil pastels with the other types of pastels. Now I’m tempted to buy some Mungyo oil pastels😂
Amazed at how the picture develops & how really good the end result is! Well done! My senneliers test pack of 6 are so soft & blendable (?), I liked swatching them but, did manage to get black from my fingers onto my paper, chump! But, as you say in your video they are soft but good. Can’t get over how wonderful your pic turned out! Guess that’s what I’m aiming for but, the last couple of days haven’t been too good results wise. Did have some success before then though so can’t complain.
Thanks ever so much! Mine did have Pan Pastels as well though for the background, and pencil details, both of which made it easier I think. What I like about oil pastels is that you can keep layering if you don't like it!
What a gorgeous picture! You make it look so easy! Those pan pastels are interesting. What did use to to pick up and lay them down? You were moving so fast I couldn't make it out. 😂 Well done Helen. ❤ I love your drawing. 😍
Thanks Panda! It's not so much hard, as keeping going back in to add more detail/add what I actually see. I condensed about an hour of drawing. I used a rounded sponge from the Sofft range.
👏👏👏Eeee so fun. Great photo & your painting is lovely & loose. I’m spoiled, you are trying all the things I’m too ill to try myself. I think pan pastels + OP is a great combo esp for larger paintings. Hoe did your repaired pans turn out? Those metallics are lush. Oh and Happy 100🎉 Helen! BTW you may like the work of another pastellist youtuber Loes Botman Pastels
Thank you! Sorry to hear about your health though ☹️ The repaired pan pastels dry to leave a couple of cracks, but work absolutely fine again. I will look them up - thanks!
Thanks! I don't have the Sennelier oil pastel fixative spray yet, so might try hairspray. I'm currently just putting a sheet of waxed deli paper in between the pages!
Helen, this so totally beautiful. It’s lovely!!!!
Thank you so much!
The texture adds detail and realistic texture, it all looks amazing
Thanks so much!
Great combination of mediums!!! 🎉
Thanks!!
It’s beautiful! Well done. I love the photo too
Thank you!!
I love your art style, its very free and fun; the result is fantastic. Keep up the great work!
This year my goal has been to free up my style a bit, so I'm really glad you think so, thanks!
The result is amazing! You colored the waves perfectly 🥰
Thank you!!
Beautiful artwork!
Thanks!
I really like this as it is. I like the rough and smooth together.
Thank you! Funnily enough, when I see this one now, I actually like it more!
You are getting better with every video Helen! You made my eyes happy with this beautiful artwork ❤😊
Thank you so much!!!
Lovely painting, textures are great! 👍🏻🎨😍
Thank you very much!
This is gorgeous!
Thanks!!
love how the painting turned out 😍
Thank you!!
Amazing art work, so nice and beautiful landscape😍😍
Thank you so much!
Haven't tried such mixed media art so it's v interesting to see you video. Thanks for sharing
Thank you! I hadn't tried this combination of media before!
Really fabulous! Whenever I try it’s like drawing with a potato 😂but you get so much detail in!

Haha! I don't use them loads, but definitely like them!
Wow! Didn’t know you could layer oil pastels over pan pastel.
Me neither till last night!
hope you frame this gorgeous piece ❤️
Thanks for the kind words!
Lovely!! I have never tried pan pastels, they seemed to be a good base for your oil pastels and pencils…. Love the result!

It's always fun to experiment!
I'm just uploading a Mungyo Gallery Oil Pastels video now!
Oh going to watch it now. Thank you for all the videos you share 👏👏👏
Thank you for watching them 🙂

@@helencryer Do you also use Pastel pencils?
I had a go with them a couple of times in this video, but they didn't work well. I've not got to grips with pastel pencils yet.
@@helencryer I assume you use black & white. These seem to be what are mainly used.
Nice 😃
Thank you!

Excellent work, recent subscriber 👍
Thank you ever so much!!
