Ranking every Shotgun in Ready or Not

- There have been many debates on the effectiveness of shotguns. Some say they've become relegated to niche roles, while others say that their range is much further than people typically expect. Naturally, that discussion has extended to the game Ready or Not. Some swear by them as reliable death machines, while others refuse to touch them due to perceived inconsistency. What's the point of using shotguns in Ready or Not? And which ones are the best?

Dial S for shotgun.
Also, I like to call the Breaching Shotgun "The Skeleton Key." I love in multiplayer when someone says "The door is locked.". And I get to say "Hang on I have the key."

I remember using one for the first time on the sins of the father level... Took out a suspect, moved into restrain. I was puzzled when I couldn't cuff him until I noticed he was missing everything from the elbow down. Very cool.
Can’t cuff him at the wrists if he has no wrists

You could say shotguns put people through holes
Interestingly enough the second Semi-auto shotgun ever made, losing to the Browing auto by only a week, uses the same mechincal principle as the Benelli semi auto. An extremely complicated but highly effective way of getting semi auto to work in shotguns.
Great minds think alike
My main man the Sjogren inertia
That would be the recoil system used in the Benelli M1, M2, and M3, not the M4.
Did you learn that from Zach Hazard too?
Obviously, he's a massive gun nerd, that and I like facts about weaponry.
This game made me fall in love with the Benelli M4
To the point I actually bought one 😅
Congrats on the purchase
Since the 1.0 release slugs are incredibly effective against armour. On valley of the dolls my mate was mirroring the door but he made a noise or sth and the 2 guards in the room rushed to the door and pushed it open when he was still in his mirror animation. I shot one slug in the chest of the first one and both fell to the floor. The slug went trough both their vests, killed them both and ended up in the wall behind them. I've mainly been using slugged shotguns ever since.
slugs are bugged and reference buckshot stats
In real life, if slug have that kind of effect, it'll be banned. SWAT tends to prefer rounds that could punch through armor but definitely not through several armors that could ended up hurting hostages in the process
IRL I have always called our shotgun slugs the "poor man's railgun" or a musket round lol😂 we love em
@@freedcryptotrue, in real life slugs typically can't penetrate armor plates, but the impact will turn your insides into paste regardless.
@@Leo-ym5xn that's why I mentioned "if" and yeah, I can't imagine how your insides will be if you got shot with slug even though you have armor plates on lol
Shotguns were especially popular (but still are, out of familiarity and the fact that departments already own them) with police because they were widely available and cheap. Most of the widely available long arms back then were for hunting, ie bolt action rifles or shotguns.
Shotguns are still extremely affordable for the level of reliability they offer. After handguns and tasers, a frugal police department's next purchase in firearms would be some Maverick 88's or Stevens 320 if they can't receive any hand-me-downs, two of these costing less than a single one of the most affordable handgun you would have the decency to equip your officers with and with an expected lifetime of about twice as much.

There is no problem a shotgun can't fix. Since the days of DooM, I've been a massive fan of shotguns in video games. Best weapons, hands down.
No it’s not. Shotguns have no use in combat other than breaching. You don’t see anyone carrying around shotguns unless it’s a designated breacher
@@kevinc.cucumber3697 he said "in video games" you dork
@@kevinc.cucumber3697 the M1014 is still in service, police still routinely use shotguns even just for cost reasons, the world isn't homogenous
@@kevinc.cucumber3697 No use in combat...? Are you saying that just because it's carried by breachers, it can't launch tear gas, and it can't hurt a guy?
@@kevinc.cucumber3697 Shotguns have no use in combat? I should tell all the soldiers I served with that used shotguns in Iraq that they're useless. Per the Geneva Convention: They are used for breaching doors, but some doors have beards.
I think the Beretta 1301 slightly edges out the Benelli M4 because when you shoot the Benelli there's barrel smoke rising up that can obscure your vision when ADS, but the Beretta doesn't have this problem so you can put more rounds more accurately downrange. Also the Beretta has remarkably lower recoil.
I also love shotguns. Ready or Not has some of the best implementation of shotguns in a video game that I’ve yet encountered, but there’s still several areas of potential improvement to make it the GOAT.
1/ Fix that absurdly slow pump cycle for the 870 and Supernova.
2/ The reload cycle seems glitched. I can’t count the number of times I got smoked because I couldn’t abort the reload animation despite hitting the cancel button like a madman.
3/ Single-round, support hand administrative reloads while the muzzle stays on target and the gun remains shouldered. The single biggest advantage of a tube-fed firearms isn’t implement.
4/ A slug select drill for taking longer range shots at need.
5/ Breaching rounds as an equippable and selectable ammo type. Or at least code in that regular buckshot can also open doors, albeit with over-penetration risk.
The shotguns in Insurgency: Sandstorm are really good, too.
I've barely seen any video game correctly depict the fire rate potential for pump shotguns. It makes sense if pump shotguns do more damage, but in realistic games where the damage depends on the ammo? Still slow AF
Great comment, man! This is exactly what I'd like to see them update in future patches.
Now, two shotguns I'd love to see in this game are the Franchi SPAS-12, of course - always loved its unique silhouette since Jurassic Park. And also the H&K Fabarm FP6, because that is also one cool looking shotgun, that's very "gamey" looking.
@@CalamityCain +1 on the SPAS-12 - such an icon. I'd love to see a Mossberg 590A1 retrograde with the heat shield and wood furniture, just on looks alone.
@@madaxe606 Yeah, that heat shield look for the 500 series is also pretty iconic, I absolutely agree.
Few video games get shotguns right or even feeling powerful, but this one nails it. Now if only the pump-actions cycled faster. My hasty first shot misses get me killed a lot. But there's nothing quite so satisfying like cleaning house (a Voll house) with a pump-action shotgun!
There's also the Saiga/Vepr-12, it was in the early stages of the game, but there's a mod that brings it back to be a useable gun in the current version along with other guns that were present in the alpha/beta
whats that mod called?
It's a Vepr on the gun wall. Saiga didn't have the magwell.
There's a really cheap Chinese shotgun that looks close because of the magwell.
Shotguns are my go-to when i don't care about score and just want to have fun. The sheer power and the result on enemies when firing is extremely satisfying lol
I was looking forward to this. On a sidenote I feel the assault rifles vid is either gonna be really really short or really long cause I feel most or them are really comparable to each other.
The differences between the AR derived guns are very minimal. The only thing I noticed is that some rifles have lighter or heavier trigger pulls.
Same. Your options are "Fast fire rate AR, slower fire rate AR, SA-58, and AK". There might be some talk about barrel length and corners, but that about sums up all ARs.
@@TheClone37 Mk18 seems to have a heavier trigger than the HK416 but that's honestly it.
The Benelli M4... An "Italian classic"
Love the editing and montages you added for this tier list. It's getting better over time!
One thing that you missed on the breaching shotgun that I love doing is that you can destroy wooden doors with it by blowing off the hinges. You can see it at 10:24 on the right side that it is an intended feature. I love using it to get rid of wooden doors that block my line of sight like the streamer apartment where both the bathroom and kitchen door can get in the way of entry. It may not be practical to getting into a room but seeing how it completely disintegrates the door and then my team makes entry looks cool AF

This is where I would put the SPAS-12! If they still manufactured it. (It would be great in RoN)
I love your videos, from the humor to the edit. Very good 😂

Upon first discovering your channel, I haven't been waiting for this. And after watching the video, I can say that I am definitely not disappointed.
I love your video. Ive owned a Benelli M3T for 14 yesrs, the top folder. And in that time, not a single tactical shooter game has justice to the raw devastation a 12 gauge can unleash. From COD to CS. Except for this game. I literally bought Ready or Not when I found that shotguns weren't lame. Thank you for this S-tier review ♡

I, too, wish to take my swing.
Not gonna lie, half the reason I’m going to get Ready or Not is because the 1301 (my irl home defense shotgun) is in the game. Kinda wish it had the Magpul SGA on it though.
there are a ton of mods for the game maybe u can find it.
Yeah, its' a real shame they went with the Mesa Tactical stock instead. the SGA is just so damn good on shotguns that can take it.

I know I poked fun at you twice now, but I still love these videos. Keep it up! I'm excited to see you tackle the Assault Rifles. When Johnny Comes Marching Home. Is this the Die Hard 3 version? (During the middle, not the end.) I coincidentally had been listening to it about 2 weeks ago when both pre-1.0 and post-1.0 hotel maps gave me Nakatomi Plaza vibes. Although I should save the hype for some bank robbery map...
Thank you for using the Girls und Panzer version of when Johnny comes marching home
My wait is over. Thank you very much)
Mine is not, I am waiting for the Assault Rifles video
Funnily enough, when I tried out the Benelli M4 I feel like I was doing better than with a rifle (probably because I don't panic fire as much b/c 8 rounds). However, I did get killed while trying to reload, so maybe the 870 wouldn't be so bad from time to time.
I'm also glad that the US marchings songs have made a return.
The 870 with the magpul built in flashlight is much cooler. The one in game protrudes out to much. Also the reason pretty much all of the agencies in the US use the regular stock is because it fits all sizes fine. And officers are not trained to use a shotgun with that pistol grip.
Shotguns are mad undervalued in RoN. They're great on Relapse and Caesar's Car Dealership, hell any mission where the bad guys aren't heavily armored.
Also the Supernova better be S Tier.
And when the bad guys are armored, you just bring a shotgun loaded with slugs, because shotgun slugs can actually penetrate armor, body and soul of every bad guy you meet.
Even on a mission where the guys are heavily armored (Neon Tomb, Ides of March), they're still mad valuable, due to them stunning the enemy a bit.
If all else fails, turn the man's head into cave paintings or their arms/limbs into tree stumps.
I wish they had the A5 in the game. As I own one IRL, I'd really like to use it in this game as well.
Shotguns are scary head poppers
Really enjoyed hearing about the real weapons. Great series for those new to the game
i like the part in ready or not when john shotgun goes “im gonna shotgun” and shotguns all over the place
Do you have your black badge? Hoping to get into IPSC shotgun this summer myself. Been practicing quad loading with my 590. Shotguns are fun.
No immediate plans but at some point in the future
I just wish there were more Mods for Wooden Furniture and Straight Stocks
Can you please comment/recommend about Buckshot vs Slug and Choke vs Brake? I do know what they are and what they do... Just don't know what works best in Ready or Not or against each type of enemy.
I love this guy! he actually knows his stuff about real life firearms, unlike a lot of other CCs that cover shooters.
I have many times in game told my friend "it's okay I have a Benelli m4" in response to anything they're panicking about
Incredible video extremly accurate ratings
My only problem with the 1301 and Supernova is the reload speed and animation. I just prefer more of the violin technique like the Benelli M4 and 870MS because one its really new into the game (Though I feel that MW19 did it first) and irl its really comfortable to handle when loading than the traditional.
I like the violin method in real life too
10:54 Ah yes, the legendary 1.0 SWAT AI
I love that void kept in the 1990's kit from the beta, I love being a 90s SWAT ninja and in my head, thinking my dude is chicken winging an 870 lol
1990s kit is best looking kit
9:56 Is the Vepr 12 an unusable "bad guys only" weapon? Or is it planned to release in a future update?
The P90 was a "Suspects only" weapon prior to the Adam Update, so it could possibly be added. There's no certainty about it though.
I really don’t understand why the game won’t let you equip an IR laser on any of your shotguns (or just m1014 since it’s the only one I use). Can the enemy AI even use visible lasers as intel on your location?
Have heard conflicting things. In my experience, they don't seem to notice vis lasers.
I love shotguns ^^ thank you from another shotgun lover ^^ If Void can ad the Fabarm STF -12 just for eye candy it would be great
Out of topic but I hope they give more retro guns. I’m trying to use 1980’s and 1990’s SAS loadouts for example. It would be cool we had the browning high power the old railess fn fal, and the c7/c8 rifle, I also wish we had way more shotguns other rifles variant like the cz Bren 2 and polish guns.
Retro guns are max drip
This video gives me strong "yes, it goes in the square hole" vibes.
10:54 - Even breaches skulls!
Kinda wish some of the shotguns didn't have pistol grips, just some more visual variation. But I love them all none the less.
Shotguns, because "hands up" wasn't a request.
To combat the slow cycle for pump shotguns the player should be able to manually cycle it themselves with 1 click to fire and another to click to cycle at the users own speed.
I do not like shotguns in many other games, mostly because how artificially restrictive they are. In Ready or Not, especially when slugs are used, they are absolutely amazing and it is hard for me to go back to assault rifles.
Your favourite shotgun name?
If my SWAT 4 experience is any indicator I get the feeling the beanbag shotgun is also going to end up in S-tier. Or even beyond S tier if you're playing for max points considering it's the only real option in that environment.
Yeah the bean bag gun is still beyond good in Ready or Not. To get the S rank at the end of a level you need to go completely non-lethal and a beanbag gun + tear gas grenades and flash bangs are usually what you need to do that
Honestly I liked pepper ball better in Swat 4 but beanbag seems easier to complete with in Ready or Not. Pepper ball can take too long to activate sometimes with the John wick suspects. However equipping most of your squad with beanbags will leave lots of suspects dead. In conclusion, I’d say beanbag is best weapon to use since you can prefire making it somewhat easier than using lethal in lots of situations. S rank indeed
The TF2 music for this video is just perfect considering how comically easy it is to blast limbs and heads into nonexistence.
Would like to see a Benelli M3 or, hell, even go a bit retro with a SPAS-12 to have a shotgun that can swap modes between semi auto and pump. Given this is a police game, it could be a single shotgun that can do both less lethal and regular buckshot.
My favorite part of this game, is Shotgun on Hospital. In the morgue area specifically it is pure violence and chaos. At least it was before 1.0 came out, have yet to unlock Hospital yet but I'm looking forward to taking ye olde Berretta out for another "Clean sweep"
Although I think it's just a reskin, isn't there a Mossberg 590 available to people with the supporter package?
That intro was absolutely hilarious
This is the best Tier-video I’ve ever seen.!
The m4 has along history after the marine corps; the SAS ordered a few and had field days with it as well.
With the suspect weapons accessible mod you can use the SAIGA-12. Magazine reload so it is the fastest full reload of all shotguns in the game. Also it has full auto mode which is hilarious ingame.
they removed the head explosion shotgun headshot now it just leaves the face hole

Weird question. Can someone explain to me how extra ammo works with the shotgun? As in, if I bring four extra ammo rounds in the loadout screen, does it mean:
A. I shoot my initial 8 rounds out of my M4 and then there are 4 extra rounds to load. Bringing my total to 12 (8 initial + 4 reloads) possible rounds for the map...or
B. I shoot my initial 8 rounds out of my M4 and then there are 4 extra full reloads of 8 each. Bringing my total to 40 (8 initial + 32 reloads) possible rounds for the map?
The extra ammo works like B, if I remember.
I always carry like 6 extra mags of shotgun, and I remember that I had like 48 shells on my Beretta 1301 in that game, so I'm guessing its B.
Copy. Thanks!

2:17 my dumb ass thought I was witnessing a man harness the power of bulletproof skin from drinking too much shitty beer, until I saw the beanbag shells.
I'm just waiting for my Mossberg 590A1 to be added to the game man. I own ARs, bolt actions, pistol caliber carbines, handguns and revolvers but my absolute favorite gun is still my 590. Simple, reliable, functional, and can be used for anything.
Side note, add the Scorpion Evo. Most aesthetically pleasing submachine gun ever made
I find myself wanting to use shotguns more over rifles, especially the Benelli SuperNova Tactical (no optics)
I knew what that intro was gonna reference
People need to realize that shotguns are SO effective that video games nerfed their effective range/spread of shot so they weren't too OP versus everything else.
I manage a gun store and I can't tell you how many people think shotguns are pointless after 10 yards!
S is for shotgun, not much beats a few chunks of lead from 10 meters or less away.
As shotgun addict i agree with this even if ive never played the game
For me the Remington 870 CQB beats out the Super Nova simply due to reload time. When reloading a completely empty 870 and Super Nova, the 870 finishes in about 3ish seconds faster than the Supernova. This is simply due to the fact that the reload technique and reload animation on the Remington 870 is much faster than the super nova. To me, reload time and keeping a shotgun fed is the most important.
This is also why I prefer the Benelli M4 over the Beretta 1301. Both are insanely good shotguns, literally interchangeable in every situation and would provide the same performance. However in ready or not the M4 uses the same, faster, reload animation as the Remington 870 CQB, which is why I prefer it.
11:37 song is "When johnny comes marching home"
I love the TF2 music throughout the video
I think Shotguns are underrated tho because most people don't know the right build, i highly recommend going for a speed build which means equip Heavy Armor and as a Material select either Kevlar or Keramik. now Keramik has the lowest protection which means if you're not careful you die quickly but Keramik has the best speed if you choose Kevlar it gives you more protection and almost the same speed as Keramik. that way you can just fast-peek any doorframe then you can see if there are Suspects or not and if there are just use a flashbang to stun them and rush in with your Shotgun incase they won't surrender you can oneshot them easily.
It’s the opposite: Kevlar is lighter but has less protection while ceramic is heavier but offers more protection
You know shotguns are great fun when even the non-lethal option (beanbag shotgun) can put someone in a grave😂
Did you think I wouldn't notice the Girls und Panzer version of Johnny Comes Marching Home? Hehe.
That intro....
Chefs kiss
Italy can really do 1 thing damn well and that's make shotguns
Now this is a tier list that I can agree with
"Pistols put holes in people. Rifles put holes through people. Shotguns, at the right range, with the right load, will *physically remove* a chunk of shit from your opponent and throw that shit on the floor, and you will have to get someone to come in and clean that shit up with a shovel." -Clint Smith, Thunder Ranch.
Insurgency sandstorm has the best depiction of shotguns ive ever played in a game
Benelli m4 is great. Tried and true but, the 1301 is pretty awesome too. I prefer it actually. Lighter, faster, and the aftermarket has quickly grown with lots of accessories options. Also you don’t have to buy a new magazine tube to get the full capacity unlike with the benelli thanks to import restrictions you won’t get the collapsible stock and will be capped at a 5 round tube unless you can buy the leo version
For civilians, 1301 does seem to make more sense
This is only true if you get the newer, black 1301. all the other colors are still only available in the old, restricted import configuration. Only in the last couple years has beretta started importing the receiver from the Italy plant and assembling them in Tennessee.
@@civilianuseonly even mil/leo end users. The 1301 has been just as reliable as my m4, the gas piston system is very similar to the benelli argo system and it runs clean. The real difference is that benelli has the heritage and history and the beretta is the new guy coming in and shaking things up. On top of all that beretta actually owns benelli so both products and both are made in Italy so when it comes to quality you’re splitting hairs between the two. Both are at the top of the combat shotgun pyramid.
As for civilians I really believe that the benelli m4 is overpriced. Unless you absolutely have to have the m4 because it’s the gun in your favorite movie or video game I really would recommend the 1301 instead. I do own both and I love my m4 haha but, I paid 1900 for that shotgun, and then another 600 ish for the correct collapsible stock, and 200 for the full capacity magazine tube. Damn near 3k and those parts are not easy to track down. I was on waitlists and took a few months to get those sourced. Compare that to a one time 1600 fee for my beretta 1301, comes with the full 7+1 capacity, and is just as capable. Beretta’s aftermarket is booming, you have all sorts of stock, handguard, and optic mount options to add on if you like
@@InvidiousIgnoramus yep! Makes me scratch my head why the hell they’ve not done that with the benelli m4? For over 20 years it’s been one do the most sought after and highest selling tactical semi auto 12 gauges. And benelli is owned by beretta lol. I would hope one day soon beretta starts doing the same assembly with m4’s in Tennessee using the same great quality Italian receivers and components
