    This bike is a monster, and a lot of fun to ride. It is also illegal in most if not all european countries. The only reason it has pedals is so you can fake it if you come across the rozzers. Buyer beware indeed!

      @@MeandMonAmi the above poster is correct though. To be a legal pedelec in the EU, a throttle is not allowed. Only pedal assist.

      @marcusjenkins 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yup, here in Spain they could throw the book at you for this one if you take it on the public road / cycle paths. The power limit here is 250W like most other EU countries and the throttle control is a no-no. Most of these ebikes can have the 25 kmh restriction removed with a simple sequence of "hidden" (easy to find on TH-cam) key presses - a hack that could land you in deeper water with the cops. Caveat emptor, indeed.
      PS It's a cool bike and I'm seriously considering the Engwe L20. The 250W limit is stupid and doubtless invented by bureaucrats from a flat country like Netherlands! 350W minimum is much more practical.

    Good review Tim, Sorry I missed this when you uploaded it but I didn't get the alert. Thanks for the heads-up on this one. Seems like an exceptional value with the bit of rear suspension and 750W motor. As someone who prefers to build his own ebikes I've not seen any off the rack ebikes I'd consider until this one. Mainly for the full suspension, larger motor, throttle and the open frame area where you could mount a larger and safer Lithium Iron Phosphate battery and larger controller and ditch the Li-Ion packs I won't charge a large Li-Ion pack in my home or near anything flammable or valuable.
    Looking at the order options I'd likely skip the second battery as one 13ah should be more range than most people's backsides.

    Candance based system needs the cranks arms to turn at least one revolution before the motor kicks in where as a torque base kicks in the moment you start to push away far more responsive maybe that’s why there’s a throttle . As for the bike looks very smart but totally illegal to ride here in the UK and EU though possible for your US viewers. As always well presented and demonstrated.

  • @Captck
    @Captck 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I know its been said here before, and the same copied reply has been pasted about it being restricted in speed...BUT...here in the UK at least, any throttle means it must be registered as a moped, regardless of the speed restriction or motor size. As for the motor, it must cut out at 250w continuous power, so again regardless of said speed restriction, it mustn't use that last 500w of power. Whether that part is restricted, very hard to tell.

  • @larshelmin
    @larshelmin 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    This is a tricky one, the CE-certificate they refer to is about electromagnetic radiation, not if it confirms to EU pedelec rules. The throttle is deactivated at sale to confirm with EU but can easily be activated by a video they link to. The 250W motor rule is a bit flexible, the EU 250W motor can produce more power in short bursts so maybe the they refer 750W to that. If they actually have 750W and throttle they are a moped and not an ebike/pedelec!

      The law is the law. Whether it's adhered to is another matter.
      Unless France has additional vehicle categories that allow a wide range of eBikes ( Like the USA) then anything that allows assistance without peddling probably needs a licence.

      I drive a lot in the city in Spain with heavy traffic, trams and pedestrians. I see cars, bikes and, especially, e-scooters jumping red lights all the time. In roughly 10% of cases this is absolutely not cool at all where some traffic (i.e. me in my car) is stopped at a pedestrian crossing red light and some (bleep) zooms through the red light to overtake me with zero visibility whether someone is crossing the road.
      But, yeah, on a bicycle at six in the morning on Sunday with absolutely nobody else around, I have ignored a red light or two.
