I knew a french couple that lived in Villefranche-sur-Mer, their apartment was down by the marina and overlooked the bay. The first time I went there, some 28 years ago, I noticed they didn't have a tele, when I asked why, my friend just pointed across the open door to the terrace and that fantastic and breathtaking view and said, with this who needs one. We spend many memorable evenings on that terrace, eating and drinking and watching the sunset, sadly they have now passed away.
Thanks for sharing, It would be grand to have a video to share of that moment today. Your friends I would guess to be more aware and enlightened than most, and your sharing of their memory reminds me of about that time long ago when I returned to Puerto Vallarta Mexico after being away for about 8 months, and my first evening out, I noticed the the streets oddly quiet and very few local families out having fun and enjoying a dinner together but at home glued to TV screens and family arguments in homes and a couple of fights on the streets. As I passed by the Malicon, people were shouting for help from the water's edge of the beach. I hurried to the where the surf was breaking and a mother was crying for help as her son, who was jilted at a wedding had tried to drown himself in the rough surf, and managed to retrieve the young man and do some rescue breathing on shore. Exhausted and soaked I continued on to home of an Italian couple who had a moved to Mexico I was going to visit, and asked that people seemed very different, less friendly and more troubled. My friends said: "Oh yea, about the time you left we got cable TV, where before we only had two channels, and almost immediately the culture changed. One of my friends was a clinical psychologist and said that how TV changed the community would have made for a good psychological study.
Thank you for this. I remember walking from Nice to Villefranche one night & then hooking my belt around one of the boat tugs attached to the wall with the other part around my neck at about 4/5am. I thought at the time, what a wonderful place to end my life. As it turns out, my belt was cheap & snapped just before what could have happened. I fell on my arse. But I ended up laughing at the madness of the situation & a few hours later I was having breakfast in Monaco. Smoked Salmon & scrambled eggs with a bottle of Champagne. It made me re-think life massively. I'll never forget that beach. 12 years later...
Thank you. Great video of a great place. Just lifted me out of gloomy old U.K. (albeit spring is just about in the air)! Wonderful scenic tour with tips for Villefranche. I want to go asap. I didn’t realise you’d been living there for 20years. I can easily see why. More videos like this please!!!
Nice presentation! I would add: 1. Go to an open air movie in the evening at the Citadelle 2. Wear walking shoes if you take the trail to the Fort of Mont Alban (you can exercise along the way, there is a parkour for the sporty ones) 3. In the afternoon you can find shadow from the protecting wall on the pebble beach at the Darse but when it gets all in the shadow you can move to the sandy beach across the bay.
What a lovely surprise and amazing way to end the day. Seeing that sun, sea, and scenery just makes me long to move from the UK. Thanks for what must be the best insight tour I have seen.
@@MeandMonAmisuperb video, we’ve been visiting since around 2000/2001 and I agree with all your suggestions, for a small town there is so much to do in this beautiful place. We love villa ephrussi and often go there in the morning and walk down to Beaulieu in the afternoon to go to villa kerylos. @@MeandMonAmi Indeed, and why we should enjoy the beauty and the ride... Odd, but last night I had a rather vivid dream that I had rented a large flat on the Côte d'Azur, The neighbors were an odd, misfit lot from New York, Liverpool and Germany who were all escaping something. Can't recall the last time I've had such a vivid dream, so perhaps your walk n' talk tour conveyed that well. Cheers!
Thanks for taking me on a tour of Villefranche, there really is a lot to see and do. Unfortunately, I'm not likely to ever get there, but thanks to you I was still able to admire it!

Fantastic Tim. We can't wait to return and as we never thought about a full day in Villefranche-sur-Mer we now know better. With 7 nights between Eze and Nice I am eager really explore in your path. Thank you once again.
You really do have the best videos of the French/Italian Riviera. I am looking at houses at the moment in France and Italy, and you have footage of some of the villages that I cannot find much of online. Next time you're in Italy can you do Pontedassio and Pieve di Teco? Thanks for great vids!
Hi Tim from Spain. Thank you for the tour de Villefranche. I don't suppose I'll ever manage to get there. At just on 83, I think I'm likely to spend the rest of my days here with just the fortnightly shopping trip to Alcalá la Real as my sole excursion, at least I get a breakfast of Churros.
While a really like your mountain trips , this video of your home town makes me even more determined to go to ville franche ,it looks fantastic. Assume this was taken in summer? You are a great story teller. I bet you wouldn’t live anywhere else .
This is the best video about Villefranche. Dude, you were awesome! The Russian fleet used to stand there. Russian emperors loved to relax here. And many russian people live there now. And there are two russian grocery stores. Hello from Russia! I adore French Rivera and I love the French. To hell with politics.

Wonderful, informative video of Villefranche. You must attend and video one of the antiques market or bootsales. Are there any sailing boat Regatas or Classic Vehicle Shows?
Great video Tim - very informative. We spent a day in Villefranche when we were in Nice last October and loved it. It’s really peaceful in the old town. My partner is now addicted to pain bagnat lol.
Excellent video - like all the others! How wonderful you’ve been able to live there for 20 years! My family and I visited a year ago June and we’ll be back again this June and we will see how many of the items to mentioned we can tick off the list!
We stayed in Nice just off the Jean Mèdicin and decided to walk to Nellcote via The Villa Beau because of The Cure video shoot, that you mentioned in one of your walk videos,(she's a big fan) had a Pan Bagnat in La Voile Bleue before continuing to Nellcote up the steps, locked up of course but there was a gardener at work behind the gate 😂
Keep doing the walk and talk tours please please please ! They are wonderful and I much prefer them to the Ami related ones. In fact I still go back and look at the walks you did from the Negresco hotel to the tip of Cap Ferrat! Just Great!
When we visit Villefranche we eat in the back streets (La Serre is our favourite) then splurge on some drinks at the Wine Pier at the Welcome Hotel for afters 😉
Another wonderful tour! It is your fault that I'm not studying my French in preparation for my month's visit this coming May to study at the Institut. Can hardly wait. Wouldn't it be lovely if our paths would cross, I can hope I'd be so lucky. I'd recognize you, Boo, and Twiggy in an instant. Again, thanks so much for your most enjoyable and educational tours around the area. Merci mille fois.
@@MeandMonAmi it’s made me book a flight for next week looking forward just need a place to stay now Villefranche not much on offer would you advise on Nice ?
Other lists are top 5 or 10 and only does the obvious ones of which like 1 may be of interest to me. Here I got like at least 5 and eating at a petang made it to the top 😀
Next time you and Mr Boo are here in Chiang Mai you must play petanque! Outside one of the temples near here there is a meeting on some evenings where the locals play what the call, you guessed it, bpeetang.
Wonderful video and presenting skills! I’m popping over in December, could you tell me if any restaurants may be open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day etc?
Well done. I know that going dark hasn't been in your playbook, but since you are doing these local native items, I would love to see a well researched and well delivered piece on the slave trade of King Leopold in the area. I had an office once in the Darse and on the floor were large loops of metal - I was told that all the buildings to the west of the Darse (doing marine studies) have these on all the floors, as this is were boatloads of people from Leopold's horror shows were brought. Now the big cannons are gone but the names of the streets reference Leopold. It would be excellent if you could find people to speak to this history before it is gone.
You forget to mention the villa where the grandmother of Cary Grant in "An affair to remember" was supposed to live. Possibly many more locations, but this was a movie I didn't forget.

Hi Tim thank you for this fab vid we are due to visit in late April 😊 Please if possible could you advise if the shops sell gluten free or restaurants you might recommend that have gluten free options as one of our party is a celiac Many thanks in advance Rachel
The bigger supermarkets nearby like super u and carrefour carry gluten free and there’s a very good gluten free pizza resto in nice port called Gigi Pizza which also does takeaway
Greetings from Yorkshire. We were in Villefranche last summer loved it, but wish youd done your video before we visted. Love your videos. Keep them coming. Ps where did you come from in the UK?
Hi - Excellent video thanks. I am travelling in July and wondered if you can recommend a reliable taxi company to collect me and family from the airport please?
A lovely video sir. Without wishing to make it sound as though I am wishing my life away, I cannot wait to spend the month of June there. And your video has just made that wait a little more challenging...!
If the authorities have seized Nellcote could it not be opened up to the public for tours? It would be very popular I’m sure. I would make a special trip just to see inside 😁
Sadly I fear the seizing isnt quite what it seems. According to a piece I read the other week it just means the owner cannot sell it but can still use it!

They are great when great.. a bad one is unforgiveable!;
Excellent video - like all the others! How wonderful you’ve been able to live there for 20 years! My family and I visited a year ago June and we’ll be back again this June and we will see how many of the items to mentioned we can tick off the list!
Glad you enjoyed it! Have a lovely time
We stayed in Nice just off the Jean Mèdicin and decided to walk to Nellcote via The Villa Beau because of The Cure video shoot, that you mentioned in one of your walk videos,(she's a big fan) had a Pan Bagnat in La Voile Bleue before continuing to Nellcote up the steps, locked up of course but there was a gardener at work behind the gate 😂
Keep doing the walk and talk tours please please please ! They are wonderful and I much prefer them to the Ami related ones. In fact I still go back and look at the walks you did from the Negresco hotel to the tip of Cap Ferrat! Just Great!
More to come!
Coming to villefranche, for a week end of August.. great info for our stay.. really looking forward to seeking out your recommendations.
Hope you enjoy it!
Haha Lovely vid this one! 🥳 xo 💕
Thank you!! 😊
When we visit Villefranche we eat in the back streets (La Serre is our favourite) then splurge on some drinks at the Wine Pier at the Welcome Hotel for afters 😉
Indeed a very wise combo!
This was great Tim, next time I make it to Europe, I'll come visit you in Villefranche. Love the sea and sun. ❤
Thanks very much come see us!
People who live there are so lucky!
Indeed
useful video
Another wonderful tour! It is your fault that I'm not studying my French in preparation for my month's visit this coming May to study at the Institut. Can hardly wait. Wouldn't it be lovely if our paths would cross, I can hope I'd be so lucky. I'd recognize you, Boo, and Twiggy in an instant. Again, thanks so much for your most enjoyable and educational tours around the area. Merci mille fois.
Total immersion at the institute. I’m sure our paths will cross it’s a small place! Bonne chance
Used to love your walking tour's pre Elton really enjoyed your tour of the town.
I have a few more planned..
Great video
Thanks Gary
@@MeandMonAmi it’s made me book a flight for next week looking forward just need a place to stay now Villefranche not much on offer would you advise on Nice ?
Other lists are top 5 or 10 and only does the obvious ones of which like 1 may be of interest to me. Here I got like at least 5 and eating at a petang made it to the top 😀
Thanks Lars. There are two or three in Villefranche. A couple right by the citadel
Great video, it's been a few years. planning to return in 2025, so many memories.
Hope you enjoy!
Wow fab video of your home town and the weather looks ……..we’re down in Spain in our motorhome but would love to come and visit your area sometime Xx
We need a swapsie!
Next time you and Mr Boo are here in Chiang Mai you must play petanque! Outside one of the temples near here there is a meeting on some evenings where the locals play what the call, you guessed it, bpeetang.
How brilliant!
I'm charged after seeing your videos 😊😊😊
Thanks Cheryl!
Yes I keep meaning to get round to doing it. I’ve heard tell of the hooks! I have done videos involving Léopold in my 10 walks series
@@MeandMonAmi Cool, and I will check out the 10 walks. Thanks !
You forget to mention the villa where the grandmother of Cary Grant in "An affair to remember" was supposed to live. Possibly many more locations, but this was a movie I didn't forget.
I shall look it up its a new one on me!
@@MeandMonAmi Better watch the movie to better locate the places. Here are my notes:

Wonderful video.
You have convinced me to visit Villefrance and your other video shows about James Bond film on the old harbour.
Keep it up.
Hopefully, I will visit this year.
Where are you from???
Best wishes from Leicester, England.
Thanks very much. West Yorkshire!
Thanks for the great video! Do you know the name of some companies that do those boat tours from Villefranche?
Thanks. Dark pelican hire boats Biyi don’t know name of tour boat but there is only one..
What is the name of the place on the beach with the big sandwich you recommended?
Hi Tim thank you for this fab vid we are due to visit in late April 😊
Please if possible could you advise if the shops sell gluten free or
restaurants you might recommend that have gluten free options as one of our party is a celiac
Many thanks in advance Rachel
The bigger supermarkets nearby like super u and carrefour carry gluten free and there’s a very good gluten free pizza resto in nice port called Gigi Pizza which also does takeaway
@@MeandMonAmi brill thank you
It would be nice if you came to the Var
We’d love to
Tim, how would you compare living in Villefranche to Beaulieu in general terms?
Very different I’d say, not least underfoot..
Greetings from Yorkshire. We were in Villefranche last summer loved it, but wish youd done your video before we visted. Love your videos. Keep them coming. Ps where did you come from in the UK?
Dewsbury !
@MeandMonAmi I'm in Ossett. Hardly the Cote D'Azur! We'll be back in Villefranche and Juan Les Pins soon hopefully.
Now understand why Elton is called Elton. LOL
Indeed but it was a viewer who chose the name!
@@MeandMonAmi Happy co-incidence. 🙂
Hi - Excellent video thanks. I am travelling in July and wondered if you can recommend a reliable taxi company to collect me and family from the airport please?
To be honest we just use Uber as the cars are nice and its much cheaper
A lovely video sir. Without wishing to make it sound as though I am wishing my life away, I cannot wait to spend the month of June there. And your video has just made that wait a little more challenging...!
Soon!
You’re info was great but could you please turn the camera around permanently so that we can see everything?
Nope that’s not how our channel works.
👍
