Bravo! Vanessa knows her stuff and English is very good! It would be an interesting upgrade...but no side windows. Busted, Elton saw you driving Eli.,, :0
The Silence S04 in the 90km/h Version with full battery that with AC gives you 70km range, 100 in town, STARTS at 16000 Euros. It is way to expensive, even thou the batteries can be taken out and charges at home, big bonus. But like the microlino (going over 20000) its too expensive. For that money you can buy a Dacia Spring, a real car. The ELi also goes over the 10000 mark but gives you AC, a feature that in the south of France or here in Spain can not be payed with gold. I have AC in my AMI but it was over 2000Euros to fit plus you lose the storage in the front for a separate Battery as it is not connected to the drive battery, the range would plummet.
@@MeandMonAmi Yes, I fully understand. To be honest, I also almost bought one. Even though it wouldn't really work for me :) I'd rather have an Ami than a Spring, even though I could make the Spring work and the Ami not really that much..
Thanks for identifying this vehicle😊 I have seen videos from Denmark and there seems to be plenty of these vehicles on the streets( not main highways),..love the color of Mr. Boo’s sweatshirt😊
Excellent video. I had never heard of this model, so I'm glad you shared this with us. Chapeau to the sales lady for her English (I teach English up here in the Paris region, so I've heard all sorts of different levels). The quality between a French built sans permis and this Eli really is night and day. I'd say the finish is more akin to our 2012 Renault Grand Scenic, which makes my Mega Multitruck look and feel like sitting in a plastic porta-loo with a lawnmower engine. Methinks the 14 year olds these days have high expectations, as do their parents. Who probably got around on a 50cc twist & go scooter (also sans permis), which is now deemed too dangerous.
I agree with all you say about the Eli car, a pity about the no window opening, seems crazy! May be if you test drive as said already in hot weather you’ll find your answer. Maybe some other model will appear for you later! All best on the skin C. I’m having prostate zapped with radiotherapy soon! John in Monmouth 🏴
It seems the biggest issue with the Citroen Ami was always the ventilation. You were always baking in the hot summers. This Eli doesn't seem to have any windows that open but it does have a sunroof. I suspect one will be using the air conditioning a lot which will eat into the range. The non-opening driver's side window could be an issue. Pulling a ticket at a parking garage to make the barrier go up will require pulling the Eli right up to the barrier and then getting out of the car and standing in front of the ticket dispensing machine. Not as convenient but doable. Maybe if two Eli's drove closely enough, they could both go through the barrier!

⚜ Greetings, from Castle Saint James~ What a delightful tutorial! You two, are, as always, a real treat. It's possible, that the ventilation will be adequate at higher speeds and the AC could be turned off. Actually, though, this vehicle is probably, designed for short trips, close to home. Great video, very interesting. The Eli looks good apart from the non-opening windows. Shame they don't do an L7e version or it may have made our Twizy replacement list.
"Americans are a little bit taller... I would say."😜 Very diplomatic, excellente commerciale. She didn't get Eli is also a quite common name in North America.
If you can somehow manage to put in the Ami an additional driving battery to drive 150 km on one charge, it will be good for the next 3 years reaching villages never thought of before.

No no, we love Elton and there's an Ami driving around Marylebone complete with the UNION JACK roof. Everytime we see it we are reminded of you and Villefranche 😉
Pole position is a great name; when driving a slow car like my 2CV or an Ami you find yourself often first, with a long queue (french for tail!?) of cars behind you.
We have a Twizy and would like a Duo. Up until recently the Mobilize website only mentioned car sharing or leasing, now I see they changed their minds and you can buy them. I'll be checking with our local Renault dealer if they can get one here to Cyprus for me.
@@MeandMonAmi Agreed. Side by side seating would have been better. My absolute favourite of these microcars/ quadricycles is the XEV Yoyo which is an L7e quadricycle 90kph .Only problem is the price around 16k.
22:22 Easy openable side windows are also important active safety feature for full hybrid / electric cars. I have to yield many times when I can't see the main road for enough distance, but I lift down the side window, and I can hear the approaching vehicle a few long seconds before see it.That's priceless.
I really enjoyed this one (I always do!) but, like others, I'd find the absence of opening windows incredibly inconvenient and, for me, also a safety issue. I think you should have another test drive, this time with Twiggy, and get her to decide 🤣🤗
@johnwinters4201 my 30 kwhr Nissan leaf has degraded 42 % and 5 battery bars lost out of 12, in 8 3/4 years from when I bought it new and within the slightly more than 40 k miles that I have done. Don't be taken in, all lithium ion batteries degrade with time and use cycles. The depreciation in electric vehicles is massive compared to ice cars.
The Eli appears to be a good little EV. Personally it’s let down by non opening windows. Really interesting review thought Tim. Another test drive would make a good video.
Mister Me and Mister Boo and Elton and Twiggy 🐕🐶well, luke everything, there's pluses & minuses, the buld quality being better than the ami, but the non opening windows is a negative point, the vehicle itself looks quite smart (my opinion) the upgraded ami will be worth looking at to compare with this Tim 😊 really good video this, stay safe and well and obviously stay charged 😊😊🎉
I prefer the Ligier for the 3k extra you seem to get a lot more. The Eli seems rather cramped and I think leg room is going to be an issue for big boy in my opinion.
Hi, as a sans permis car it seems pretty good. But as you have a license now for less you probably could get a 2nd hand dacia spring or another proper electric car.
Cars for people who can't drive brings it to the point 😊. In Germany the limit for no license driving is 6 km for a car or similar. But below 25 you need only a very simple test.
You should check the new Citroen E-C3, it is offering much more than the Dacia Spring (for the same price with the French government bonus if you live in France)
Really interesting video, it’s a shame the windows don’t open on the doors but it seems a better build car than the Ami the opening hatch is amazing , it looks as Citroen may have to up their game and bring out a more refined version of the Ami , i’m sure there will be plenty more cars like this coming from China in the future.
Now that's a very well made little electric city car/quadracycle and isn't "too" expensive considering the fit and finish. Really it's only around £3000 more than the Ami for a much better product. The only real minus is, as you mentioned, the lack of opening windows which makes some simple tasks a lot more difficult such as taking tickets from the machines or paying for parking at car parks, using drive thrus etc. again as you pointed out.
Take a look also at the Mobilize Duo in the 80 km/h speed version. (Renault group) . They were presented in the automotive exhibition in Paris this week...
How was forward and side visibility through the flrontt visor? Is it superior to Ami or do the pillars get in the way of side visibility? Really looking forward to an actual ride test. I would buy you guys a coffee, but I am pour these days due to inflation in America.
Cool. Thanks for showing us that. Definitely not a fan of no windows. And I wonder if the sunroof would even work once you're all loaded with your gear for camping? But also, I saw the results of a collision with an Ami and another microcar (with a similar "polished" plastic finish), and the Ami had almost no visible damage to its body work (fenders, etc), while the shiny plastic one was crumbled and crunched up pretty bad. I myself once forgot to set my parking brake in a parking lot, and accidentally rolled into the car in front of me. My Ami literally bounced right off of them. No damage to either car! So I kind of like the flexibility of its quirky body material, (and the no maintenance "paint" job). 😀 I do however, like the color options in the Eli, and the hatchback, air-con, and car-play screen make it (almost) worth the extra cost!
Yeah I think car play is easily bought for ami for less than £200 (carpuride etc) but air con etc is great. But you are right about the ami bodywork bouncing a bit!!
Interesting, to see the Eli and thanks to Vanessa for hosting you and us. Looking forward to the extended drive and your take compared to Elton. I also lean more towards the Ami's minimalist implementation and Citroen's use of an a well proven industrial alternator and drive system. From the specs I'm seeing for the Eli, it looks like the Ami has a bit more horsepower on tap and a larger battery as well. Here in the U.S. were we have to have a driving license, low-speed electric vehicles are restricted in were you can drive them and a serviceable Used Nissan leaf can be had for under $5k, it's hard to make a buying case a for 25mph $12,000 Light EV but seems a good fit for urban and tourist locales. If Musk's robo-cabs ever become a reality one has to wonder if that could change a lot of what we take for granted.
As an English man, many years ago at a party I asked a french girl that same question. Her reply, first, blowing cigarette smoke in my face, then with a curled lip she says, Non, absolument non!. I'm sorry to say I think it's just you! My french used to be, and to some extent still is fairly basic. But when buying our house in France it was nessecary to up my game especially understanding legal implications. Fortunately a friend recommended the Michelle Thomas conversational course. A basic but very logical approach to learning French and much easier than say Rosetta. Just a thought. Bon Chance!
As an Aixam Crossline L7 diesel driver, i like the electric Ligier at 05:30. For my 2 dogs and equipment it would work. Side note, in Belgium you don't need a license if you are born before februari 1962. After that date you need an AM license, for moped, speedpedelec, mopedcar. As always, great video.❤
To be honest all the big manufacturers need to take a leaf out of Eli's book. Great price, good finish, and much more useful than 20ft SUVs. Just a bit more range, what's not to like? You'll be surprised when you're at a car park and need an open window. They're not just for ventilation.
If you can bear to change from poor Elton, and I'm typing this quietly so he doesn't hear, you could get a s'h Dacia Spring for the same kind of money. Opening windows, a boot, goes more than 45 kmh, decent range even with air con going. Need a new channel name though. Me and my Spring A Spring in Provence A Spring in our steps Springing around the Riviera ...
The brand new price of that thing is about the same as the secondhand price of the Volkswagen e-Up. A secondhand e-Up is much more of a car, it has fast charging, you can drive it on the motorway, and it's a proper car.
It's not the same market : for instance in France an elderly widow without a driving license can drive an Eli but she can't drive a VW e-Up. Apples to oranges.
Aircon or heating is what can drain the battery but in EVs if you use fans only that blow directly at you it uses very little electricity. We are probably talking about 50-150 watts. i.e don't turn the knob to cold or hot and leave in off mode. Just turn the strength of fan on the Eli. In context driving the vehicle you're using at least 10x as much.
We are curious about insurance. Do persons that drive these have to have insurance? What happens when they cause an accident? BTW we're enjoying you from right down the road in Menton. Nice to see the moon out tonight. Head to Nice on Friday thru Monday. Hopefully we might run into you guys.
Essayez la Baw E-pony, elle a une bonne autonomie, beaucoup d'options, 4 places, deplus en inclinant la banquette arrière, elle dispose d'un coffre conséquent pour sa taille.
Such a cool little car. But not being able to open the window would really annoy me I think! If you live in a US gated community, you might me afraid to get attacked, so windows that can't open could be great, but in the south of France?
Why didn't you took a look at the Ligier Myli it's a way more luxurious car, with rolling down windows, CarPlay, Airconditioning, ABS, Rear camera. Decent boot space and way better seats.
Once you were back in Elton, he seemed so much bigger and had opening windows! Then again, what will the range be actually like with the AC turned on in the Eli?? Another Tim & Mr Boo cliffhanger! Guessing the Mustang was of no interest :)
Excellent midweek video, and no doubt that car is well-equipped, especially with air con and power steering. But not being able to open the windows is a big downside. Having the AC on all the time will definitely eat into the range! I don’t like the design either; the AMI is much more charming and pleasant. This one looks like a generic golf cart from some unknown brand, it lacks personality.
I would want the rear hatch window to open like the skylight and the passenger seat to fold forward for extra storage. Both could be an after market kit if need be... The side window is not an issue for me. Can a 6 foot person fit?
Comprehensive review - thanks. Look forward to more. Maybe you can both try out the Renault Mobilize Duo. Citroen was far sighted and quite brave to release the Ami. Their sucess seems to have given confidence to other manufacturers, shaking up the market for Quadricycles making them less goofy and more appealing to mainstream potential buyers. No disrepect to owners of large 4x4's, but more often than not I see them in town with just the driver, seldom other passengers. While not appropriate for anything but urban use, I do hope these compact vehicles go some way to reverse the 'size is status - arms race'. While the original classification of a quadricycle was to say the least, very basic - these new versions are pushing much needed higher safety specs, notably air bags, which in 2024 should be standard anyway. Citroen will need to up their game with Ami 2.0.
Talk to owners first. I doubt the air con can handle the temperatures you see. And the roof can't take your extra cargo. It's been around ten years now, which makes it ancient in the tech world.
I wonder how much it would cost to have the driver side cut and have an opening put in so you can open it, at least for parking tickets and drive thru. Not soft plastic but something like you put in a van when you make a camper conversion. Because that no window thing would be a deal breaker.
Dongfeng sells real ev car in Norway for less than 16000 euro. Even my Aixam E with the smallest battery costed only 4 grand less because we have zero tax on chinese cars here.
To be honest, if you are looking for a new Car, and it don,t has to be an Car without licence, and it shouldn't be to expensive, i would recommend somthing like a Leap motors T03 (about 19000€). The T03 should be available from Stellantis (Citroen) dealers from next spring, it has CCS (DC Fast Charge) Type 2 and can be charged with an adapter from a socket. The Range is about 165-250km. The price of some microcars is already close to the price of a much better small car. A small car also has a higher mandatory safety standard. This means proper side impact protection, airbags, a crumple zone, etc. As a driver of an electric Opel Corsa, I love your travel videos with elton. I always find it amazing what you can do with a Citroen Ami. Especially because other people ("normal Car" drivers) always tell me what I supposedly can't do with my electric car🙄.
The having no way to wind down or open a flap on the door windows is a bigger issue and design flaw than youd think, you need to be able to communicate through the door window, it would be a pain in the arse to go through a drive through (imagine going through a bottlo drive through or maccas, it would be a nightmare) Nar sorry id pass on this one, the build quantity was very impressive though and the range of colours, i do like the light blue colour.
3 hours to charge it? is that on public charging or home charging. the massive down side I can see with the car is the sun roof, while good for letting air in in the summer due to it being forward facing, the massive down side being you will catch a lot of rain into the cabin when it rains, whereas a rear opening sunroof would be less of a rain capture.especially when you think going forwards in a car water will run up the windscreen not down.
Not good that the windows of the Eli do not open, that can be a big limitation, otherwise it is a beautiful car. I will consider one when they change the windows, that will come sooner than later, it is the only flaw I can see but a big one.
The non opening windows would worry me. You would need the air con running nearly all the time. Not just to keep cool but on rainy humid days those windows would need constant demisting. Cute little car and i liked the fit and finish on it. Full marks to the lady for her grasp of Yorkshian 😅😅😂

Really interesting video, I wonder how the Silence S04 would compare - also have you seen the new Ami model with the funky hub caps 😂
Well done... no thunder, lightning, rain, wind or floppy tents....
Must have been our lucky day!
Wished could of showed us the grey one next to Eli I liked that one the shape as I have a full driver's license
Told you about Tyler & Todd...but watch Van Wives..Hope you love them too eh!
Eilidh is a Scottish Gaelic name , pronounced exactly like the lassie in the car showroom did. Cool car , me and Mon eilidh
Does it mean God? Mr Boo says it does!
@@MeandMonAmi me and my god :) haha . I think eilidh English version is Helen I think , not sure about God :)
@@MeandMonAmi does Mr boo mean enijah ?
I am German, pretty fluent in English (learning French right now 😃) - is it just me or does English with a small French accent sound really sexy??
As an English man, many years ago at a party I asked a french girl that same question. Her reply, first, blowing cigarette smoke in my face, then with a curled lip she says, Non, absolument non!. I'm sorry to say I think it's just you! My french used to be, and to some extent still is fairly basic. But when buying our house in France it was nessecary to up my game especially understanding legal implications. Fortunately a friend recommended the Michelle Thomas conversational course. A basic but very logical approach to learning French and much easier than say Rosetta. Just a thought. Bon Chance!
Great little car...flawed by the absurdity of non-opening side windows...a nutty omission
No primark at cap3000 that’s at the polygon!!😂😂😂👍
True dat!
Great car the Eli really liked a lot, tops however, being claustrophobic the idea of closed windows I feel uncomfortable… must test drive
Great to see you both in middle of the week! 3 hot (human) stars in this episode 😍😅🔥 Re the cars - I’d take the Mustang 😍 😃 🚘
As an Aixam Crossline L7 diesel driver,
i like the electric Ligier at 05:30.
For my 2 dogs and equipment it would work.
Side note, in Belgium you don't need a license if you are born before februari 1962. After that date you need an AM license, for moped, speedpedelec, mopedcar.
As always, great video.❤
@@kevinvoogt Thanks. For once it’s good to be old!

To be honest all the big manufacturers need to take a leaf out of Eli's book. Great price, good finish, and much more useful than 20ft SUVs. Just a bit more range, what's not to like? You'll be surprised when you're at a car park and need an open window. They're not just for ventilation.
Yup and yup
If you can bear to change from poor Elton, and I'm typing this quietly so he doesn't hear, you could get a s'h Dacia Spring for the same kind of money. Opening windows, a boot, goes more than 45 kmh, decent range even with air con going.
Need a new channel name though.
Me and my Spring
A Spring in Provence
A Spring in our steps
Springing around the Riviera
...
Elton is staying but I think a Dacia Spring is a great idea for longer trips. I just wish I loved the design of it..
@@MeandMonAmi Yes, they're desperately utilitarian.
The brand new price of that thing is about the same as the secondhand price of the Volkswagen e-Up.
A secondhand e-Up is much more of a car, it has fast charging, you can drive it on the motorway, and it's a proper car.
Good luck finding one. I looked at 4, all did not exist or where the petrol version. If you got one, why would you sell it?
Great cars. Hold their value well too. Run on the smell of it. The e version is like hen’s teeth though.
It's not the same market : for instance in France an elderly widow without a driving license can drive an Eli but she can't drive a VW e-Up. Apples to oranges.
@@chucku00 Yes well aware. The Up! is classified as a “proper car” requiring a full licence to drive. OP just suggesting options I think.
@@ralphsmyth9635 Yup, he's suggesting to buy a second hand fridge instead of a brand new toaster. Very well-thought option indeed.
@@frankelf3151 trust me fans don’t cut it where we are in summer
We are curious about insurance. Do persons that drive these have to have insurance? What happens when they cause an accident? BTW we're enjoying you from right down the road in Menton. Nice to see the moon out tonight. Head to Nice on Friday thru Monday. Hopefully we might run into you guys.
Yup you need insurance just like any other car/moped etc. Hope we see you!
There’s a new Ami model out now . Hope you have a look at it too see if it’s better than yours .
When we get our hands on one we will!
@@MeandMonAmi you would not have to chance the name of the channel.
@@akirantanen2944 that won’t be happening and Elton will not be leaving town!
@@MeandMonAmi thank's just what i wanted to hear👍
Better than Top Gear,Tim……..and a better sense of humour, too !
Eli looks nice but for me it looks like an enclosed golf cart. Ami looks more like a car then a gulf cart. Great video ladies, take care, Joseph
Essayez la Baw E-pony, elle a une bonne autonomie, beaucoup d'options, 4 places, deplus en inclinant la banquette arrière, elle dispose d'un coffre conséquent pour sa taille.
It is interesting, but lack of windows would be a bit of a problem, I wonder if the sunroof could be removed completely?
I hope they have seen some of your driving through Italians villages with 2 meter wide roads before they allowed you to do the test drive 🤣🤣
It’ll be a breeze!
Such a cool little car. But not being able to open the window would really annoy me I think! If you live in a US gated community, you might me afraid to get attacked, so windows that can't open could be great, but in the south of France?
As Mr Boo said, not opening window, is inconvenient at parking. An I thought about drive through being inconvenient.
Why didn't you took a look at the Ligier Myli it's a way more luxurious car, with rolling down windows, CarPlay, Airconditioning, ABS, Rear camera. Decent boot space and way better seats.
@@ernestoditerribile maybe next time
Once you were back in Elton, he seemed so much bigger and had opening windows! Then again, what will the range be actually like with the AC turned on in the Eli?? Another Tim & Mr Boo cliffhanger! Guessing the Mustang was of no interest :)
A bugger to park!
Finally some eye candy.
The car?
@@MeandMonAmi Bien sûr!
@@MeandMonAmi I was thinking how attractive Vanessa is. :)
the non opening of the windows would be a dealbreaker for me, especially for a car that can only drive 45km/h, I want to stick my arm out...
Can you put a tent and a bunch of other stuff on top?
Hmmm?🧐
Portugal allows vehicles which are "sans permis." I thinkI may buy one as a compiment to my regular car.
That’s good to know!
What a nice suprise blog in s middle of The week! Sorry Guy's,but IT would fit you,really...
I wish you guys would try out the XEV yoyo!
We love it and it’s on the list!
Looking forward to seeing your opinion on the just launched Mobilize Duo (the artist formerly known as Renault Twizy)
Yeah, I was also thinking: how are they going to get their ridiculously large baggage on top of that roof? 😄 Eli is not a DIY-friendly vehicle.
Eli is a great car, but i'll choose the new mobilize duo by renault for the same price, much more stylish.
I love the styling but not sure how comfortable the rear passenger would be
I wonder how much it would cost to have the driver side cut and have an opening put in so you can open it, at least for parking tickets and drive thru. Not soft plastic but something like you put in a van when you make a camper conversion. Because that no window thing would be a deal breaker.
Where is this dealer located?
Saint Laurent Du Var v near Nice
All that glass on a hot day will make it roasting inside as you get in
The A pillars looked really wide and seemed to block out a lot of vision. That would annoy me
good work
