It is hard to imagine this channel without Elton. You and Mr Boo setting off on your junkets full of antics and hijinks is charming enough but I am afraid that an upgrade would reduce the channel to just two guys in a car. Elton’s stalwart performance and underdog bonhomie really add a frisson of excitement and drama to your trips, where the underlying question is ‘will they make it’.
A good decision, Eltons done you proud. We were doing 12000 miles a year in a model 3 then bought a Twizy and now only do 3000 miles a year in the Tesla on long trips. Love the convenience of something so small and parking anywhere, and every trips a hoot. Keep up the great videos, your efforts are appreciated.

Your channel convinced me of the Ami's charms but it was the ECB subsidising the green loan's interest rate that made me take the plunge. Pop on over to Malta one day if you somehow manage, this place is amazing for cars like Elton :)
@@MeandMonAmi Central area, near Birkirkara. Traffic is nuts at rush hour but driving through old town streets and awfully narrow country roads with the Ami is amazing. You can even take the ferry to Gozo, the charger infrastructure is really good.
Elton needs to be in Citroen's museum on retirement as I think you two, more than anybody else has proved this little object to be a competent machine. You are right about the seats though, having had a 30minute test drive, that's as far as I would want to go in one!
You love your French AMI , and I love my old English Willerby mobile home. It's no longer the best and has a few flaws, but it's a piece of England on my campsite in France, and it has the incredible charm of an old English cottage! I'll keep it until the very end.
Glad to hear Elton's staying, a car share or loan might be the answer for longer adventures through the channel subscriptions in the areas you wanted to visit. This channel wouldn't be the same without ami adventures every now & again!

Wow, 1001, days Hard to believe the days and miles have passed so quickly but it's been a joy to share them with you all the way. It's been an inspiration in so many ways to think of not just transport but to that what we assume to be less in life can be more joy and adventure is you can and do step out and enjoy it, and how better than in a how you and Elton have done that. Thank you for hanging in there and going the extra miles for us, for me as I'm sure thousands more, it's truly been a one of the most memorable joy, even before Elton carried the adventure.
So I’m up to 7000miles in mine, daily commute 20 mile round trip, this time of year I’m putting a desktop heater in the seat connected to a extension lead and WiFi switch and preheating the car for 30 mins in the morning, I come out and it’s all defrosted and lovely and toasty unlike my neighbours. I also have a ALLPOWERS portable power pack in the footwell connected to a mini PTC heater in the dash to boost the dash demister. I’ve learnt to adapt to the ami’s issues and it’s ten times better than cycling every day in the winter like I used to.
I’m saving £120 a month in diesel, £150 in road tax and £100 in insurance and I get to work dry and relatively safe when compared to a push bike or moped
Brilliant. We still have our original allpowers there too. Trouble is ours is usually used to power multiple cameras and gadgets etc. We need to find an aircon system for summer I think
@@MeandMonAmi I fitted a 50w flexible thin solar panel in the inside of the sun roof attached to the metal frame with hook and loop ties. Not only does it stop the horrendous sun in the summer if trickle charges the allpowers. The car isn’t modified and can easily we taken down in 5 mins, plus because it’s on the inside it can’t be stolen

We're STILL WAITING for our first Citroen Elton to come to county Clare in Ireland...people are salivating as they wait for 'the test drive'...I see Ami as reintroducing fun back into driving...I have the best car if my life, and I'm miserable out on the road and in the car parks...I want to smile again, like i did in the 1970s...
I agree with the others that Citroen should give you a sponsor car. Well maybe someone in Renault is watching and you'll get the 5. You have managed to show us some great adventures with the small range of ami, a bigger range would probably allow even greater ones.

Outside of an occasional Turtle Mode, it seems Elton has been ultra reliable over the years with a low cost of ownership. If my math is correct, “subscribership” increased by about 33% since the Me and Mon Ami decal upgrade, on your way to 25k. But with or without Elton, the reason we Tune in is the storytelling, humor, and the adventures of you, Mr Boo, Twiggy (not forgetting Halloween) in the greater Villefranche metropolis and surrounding area. So glad you decided to keep him. I started watching this channel as I used to have Smart Fortwo (and really regretted selling it), and I wondered if I could live with a small EV. Here in England don’t think I could as the infrastructure is still not there yet. Still love the channel and feel like I’m on hols whenever I watch. Thanks guys. 😊
We ordered an Opel Rocks-E (german Version of the Citroen AMI) as soon as it was available about three year ago for our then 15 year old daughter. She drove to the shool nearly ever single day since then until a month ago she aquired her full driving license. So sadly and with a lot of regret we sold it. She did a little over 20.000km in this not-car. We found another family that has two children which will consecutive reach the right age to drive it further down the road. So we bid farewell to our little Rocks-E. My were abel to purchase a four year old Skoda Citigo iV electric which suits my daughters new role as taxi driver for her grandparents a little better. They just feel a little bit saver and they both can come along on their way to shops, marketplaces, doctors and so on. But I think neither of us will ever forgot the little car with which her motorist career started.
A 72 year old about the uncomfortable chairs: We put cushions on the chairs and on top of that a combined back /bottom cushion for garden chair (for back comfort). We have no problems after that except when you're traveling over very bumpy roads.
Hi guys I’m new to your channel and your car is very practical we have a place in the flots blue and have been spending our summers there for the last ten years, in the beginning we used to do the dreaded drive from Switzerland,but now we tend to fly and I use a Vespa for shopping and visiting all the hilltop villages, that’s what I love about your channel we have followed in your footsteps on your adventures so for me that’s the reason I look forward to your weekly episode also I have learnt more about the south of France and for that I thank you.😊😊
A great, informed and unbiased review. I'm sure you've helped a lot of potential buyers. You could make some great videos showing upgrades and tips to make the Ami just a little more comfortable and useable. How about a mirror wrap for the roof to keep out the sun (or a double skinned roof panel like taxis have in HK)? Or comfy 2 CV seats instead of the standard hard ones? You could set off a new trend in Ami customization...
Hello both, I have been watching your videos with interest from the start as I liked the Ami concept, but because of the negatives like low range, restricted speed, no aircon stopped me from getting an Ami. On 1 Dec a prototype of a carbon neutral City ev called BEN was shown on Demo Day in Guimarães in northern Portugal by a consortium (44 companies incl internationally known auto related companies + 8 northern cities well funded with EU + Portuguese state) BE.NEUTRAL in 2025 the 8 cities plan to offer BEN ev with 5G connectivity and autonomous driving Be.Neutral aims to offer the BEN to the 2030 football world championship as public transport option and have ambitious plans to export the BEN globally. If successful the BEN may become a worthy alternative with more comfort/range/speed as an L7 type vehicle Time will tell but I for one wait for an affordable small ev around €10k. Keep up the good work!

Wow, I'm a bit late to the party (TH-cam decided not to allow me to play videos anymore and offered no reason why, so I had to work around it all), but I really like the honesty! 3 years. I just thought, man, has it already been 3 years? It felt like months to me. Anyway, Elton really seemed to do very well for you, except for the heat problem.. I also drove the Renault 5 (in green). It was fantastic and it looked really good too. But still, it's a LOT of money.. The fog issue I also have with my 18 year old small petrol car. Annoying, but I can deal. However, here in the Netherlands, not being able to use the car because of the cold would be a problem. Even though it usually doesn't get that cold (or hot) here that often. It's cool. I started watching the channel for the Ami, but your adventures, great pictures and enthusiasm means it's hardly about the Ami any more. I love the channel...

My only comment on the car side of things is if you didn’t keep Elton but wanted a like car but with comfort aircon etc but compact, is a used Smart Fortwo EV or should I say me and mon duex
I wish we had the option to buy something like this in the US. The ability to just drive it without all the Bureaucracy of owning a car here. But we don't have roads and scenery like southern Europe so no matter.
I watched you before you got Elton and I watch you avidly because you are such an interesting and entertaining quartet. So pleased you are keeping the Ami, but where will you be parking the pink JaGuar when it arrives next year?! Hello again to the both of you (and Elton). Like many here i love what you do. In my comments in previous video's you know i like to help. IF you should get an other car or "car", why not a new Aixam Crossover ev? 120km range, a boot of 640 liters, standard ac, and 3m long. I drive an Aixam Crossline L7 diesel, been to Spain, Norway, Great Brittain, France, Switzerland, Holland, and it is my daily driver. You get everything you have from Elton, and a bit more space. Still cheap to drive, easy to park, and still the quadricycle feeling. Just my 2 cents, and no pressure. Only trying to help. Keep up the good work, and what you choose, i'll stay a big fan. As someone who drives a Renault Mégane E-Tech in the UK (before the Renault 4 & 5 were announced), I'd love to see you both go on longer road trips in the Renault 5! I agree that the hire/lease option is probably the most logical. Love your videos!
Considering the heat issue, it's strange that Citroen doesn't drop the panoramic roof. I would have thought that it would be cheaper too. But what a great interesting little car for mostly day to day usage. And, I'll look forward to the challenges and adventures you put both the car and yourselves through in the future. And yes, the country parts of France and Italy look beautiful.

Tim, after seeing ID Buzz has a glass sunroof you can opaque, with the flick of a button, why don't you consider a sunroof you can open and close and turn from transparent to opaque, depending upon the weather? Replacing the current one would come at a cost of course but the improvement in quality of life might be worth the upgrade.

I have been the owner of an Ami for 18 months, and I have encountered considerable discomfort during longer journeys, which is a significant concern. I often travel from central Essex to the West End of London, which proves to be a quicker and more cost-effective option compared to public transportation, even when factoring in the relatively high costs of public charging for my return journey. Parking is convenient, as I can connect to a kerbside charger for over three hours, only paying for the electricity I consume. However, I find the two-hour drive each way to be almost unbearably uncomfortable due to the seats in the vehicle. While the Ami is highly suitable for local driving, I have decided to order a Dacia Spring. I plan to continue using the Ami for local errands, but I believe the Dacia will provide a more comfortable experience for longer trips. This will enable me to undertake journeys of up to 300 miles in a single day with greater ease.

A good decision, he's not only your Ami but mine as well and i guess many viewers will see it the same. The idea, not to get another car (with exactly the same questions 3 years later) but to consider renting a 'real' car when needed from time to time, will not only open your channel to wider rides but also a bit to some car review channel. Topgear Villefranche or so. You could even let the viewers decide, which car you should rent next 😂 Stay charged 👍
We haven’t got a car, but we joined Citiz about ten years ago and for a small monthly fee we can rent at low cost one of over 60 cars parked all over the city, from tiny pandas to massive scenics. Have a look down there in Nice !
Hello Tim and Mr Boo. I'm in a state of shock given that it is 3 years since you got Elton. Where does the time go? I'm so glad to hear that Elton will remain on your channel for now. It's a wee trouper. Renting an electric car for longer distances would be a great idea and it could give you an opportunity to do an alternative car review if you were so minded. You mentioned the possibility of having 2 cars, where I live there are too many households with 2 or more cars these days.....no wonder driving (and parking) has become a nightmare. When I was young in the sixties there were 2 or 3 cars in my street, now there are 16+. That says it all... lol 😆 Keep up the great work and I look forward to your new adventures in 2025 😃

Thanks for the review, I saw my first Ami in a car park in Roscoff a few months ago. I like the concept of it, cars have become far too complicated these days. As for the heat problem, I think Citroen-shop does a roof blind for about 60 quid.

Wow, 1001, days Hard to believe the days and miles have passed so quickly but it's been a joy to share them with you all the way. It's been an inspiration in so many ways to think of not just transport but to that what we assume to be less in life can be more joy and adventure is you can and do step out and enjoy it, and how better than in a how you and Elton have done that. Thank you for hanging in there and going the extra miles for us, for me as I'm sure thousands more, it's truly been a one of the most memorable joy, even before Elton carried the adventure.
So I’m up to 7000miles in mine, daily commute 20 mile round trip, this time of year I’m putting a desktop heater in the seat connected to a extension lead and WiFi switch and preheating the car for 30 mins in the morning, I come out and it’s all defrosted and lovely and toasty unlike my neighbours. I also have a ALLPOWERS portable power pack in the footwell connected to a mini PTC heater in the dash to boost the dash demister. I’ve learnt to adapt to the ami’s issues and it’s ten times better than cycling every day in the winter like I used to.
I’m saving £120 a month in diesel, £150 in road tax and £100 in insurance and I get to work dry and relatively safe when compared to a push bike or moped
Brilliant. We still have our original allpowers there too. Trouble is ours is usually used to power multiple cameras and gadgets etc. We need to find an aircon system for summer I think
@@MeandMonAmi I fitted a 50w flexible thin solar panel in the inside of the sun roof attached to the metal frame with hook and loop ties. Not only does it stop the horrendous sun in the summer if trickle charges the allpowers. The car isn’t modified and can easily we taken down in 5 mins, plus because it’s on the inside it can’t be stolen

Outside of an occasional Turtle Mode, it seems Elton has been ultra reliable over the years with a low cost of ownership. If my math is correct, “subscribership” increased by about 33% since the Me and Mon Ami decal upgrade, on your way to 25k. But with or without Elton, the reason we Tune in is the storytelling, humor, and the adventures of you, Mr Boo, Twiggy (not forgetting Halloween) in the greater Villefranche metropolis and surrounding area. Here in England don’t think I could as the infrastructure is still not there yet. Still love the channel and feel like I’m on hols whenever I watch. Thanks guys. 😊

We ordered an Opel Rocks-E (german Version of the Citroen AMI) as soon as it was available about three year ago for our then 15 year old daughter. She drove to the shool nearly ever single day since then until a month ago she aquired her full driving license. So sadly and with a lot of regret we sold it. She did a little over 20.000km in this not-car. We found another family that has two children which will consecutive reach the right age to drive it further down the road. So we bid farewell to our little Rocks-E.
My were abel to purchase a four year old Skoda Citigo iV electric which suits my daughters new role as taxi driver for her grandparents a little better. They just feel a little bit saver and they both can come along on their way to shops, marketplaces, doctors and so on.
But I think neither of us will ever forgot the little car with which her motorist career started.
A 72 year old about the uncomfortable chairs: We put cushions on the chairs and on top of that a combined back /bottom cushion for garden chair (for back comfort). We have no problems after that except when you're traveling over very bumpy roads.
Yes we have double cushions. I IKEA has a new one which is by far our best yet
Hi guys I’m new to your channel and your car is very practical we have a place in the flots blue and have been spending our summers there for the last ten years, in the beginning we used to do the dreaded drive from Switzerland,but now we tend to fly and I use a Vespa for shopping and visiting all the hilltop villages, that’s what I love about your channel we have followed in your footsteps on your adventures so for me that’s the reason I look forward to your weekly episode also I have learnt more about the south of France and for that I thank you.😊😊

A great, informed and unbiased review. I'm sure you've helped a lot of potential buyers. You could make some great videos showing upgrades and tips to make the Ami just a little more comfortable and useable. How about a mirror wrap for the roof to keep out the sun (or a double skinned roof panel like taxis have in HK)? Or comfy 2 CV seats instead of the standard hard ones? You could set off a new trend in Ami customization...

Hello both, I have been watching your videos with interest from the start as I liked the Ami concept, but because of the negatives like low range, restricted speed, no aircon stopped me from getting an Ami. On 1 Dec a prototype of a carbon neutral City ev called BEN was shown on Demo Day in Guimarães in northern Portugal by a consortium (44 companies incl internationally known auto related companies + 8 northern cities well funded with EU + Portuguese state) BE.NEUTRAL in 2025 the 8 cities plan to offer BEN ev with 5G connectivity and autonomous driving Be.Neutral aims to offer the BEN to the 2030 football world championship as public transport option and have ambitious plans to export the BEN globally. If successful the BEN may become a worthy alternative with more comfort/range/speed as an L7 type vehicle Time will tell but I for one wait for an affordable small ev around €10k. Keep up the good work!

Wow, I'm a bit late to the party (TH-cam decided not to allow me to play videos anymore and offered no reason why, so I had to work around it all), but I really like the honesty! 3 years. I just thought, man, has it already been 3 years? It felt like months to me. Anyway, Elton really seemed to do very well for you, except for the heat problem.. I also drove the Renault 5 (in green). It was fantastic and it looked really good too. But still, it's a LOT of money.. The fog issue I also have with my 18 year old small petrol car. Annoying, but I can deal. However, here in the Netherlands, not being able to use the car because of the cold would be a problem. Even though it usually doesn't get that cold (or hot) here that often.
It's cool. I started watching the channel for the Ami, but your adventures, great pictures and enthusiasm means it's hardly about the Ami any more. I love the channel...

My only comment on the car side of things is if you didn’t keep Elton but wanted a like car but with comfort aircon etc but compact, is a used Smart Fortwo EV or should I say me and mon duex
I wish we had the option to buy something like this in the US. The ability to just drive it without all the Bureaucracy of owning a car here. But we don't have roads and scenery like southern Europe so no matter.
Smart EV is every bit of practical if not more, with all the creature comforts. Plus a normal top speed, so your not holding up traffic.
I watched you before you got Elton and I watch you avidly because you are such an interesting and entertaining quartet. So pleased you are keeping the Ami, but where will you be parking the pink JaGuar when it arrives next year?! Thank you for all that you add to my life and I look forward to every new escapade whatever that might be. And maybe our paths might cross during your next visit to my home town of Chiang Mai.

and it is my daily driver.
You get everything you have from Elton,
and a bit more space.
Still cheap to drive, easy to park,
and still the quadricycle feeling.
Just my 2 cents, and no pressure.

As someone who drives a Renault Mégane E-Tech in the UK (before the Renault 4 & 5 were announced), I'd love to see you both go on longer road trips in the Renault 5! I agree that the hire/lease option is probably the most logical. Love your videos!

Considering the heat issue, it's strange that Citroen doesn't drop the panoramic roof. I would have thought that it would be cheaper too. But what a great interesting little car for mostly day to day usage. And, I'll look forward to the challenges and adventures you put both the car and yourselves through in the future. And yes, the country parts of France and Italy look beautiful.
IMO it would be a good idea to put some opening vents in the front panel. It would be cheap enough to do.
I must admit I was dubious when you first got Elton but the places that little car has been and the way it has performed, is so impressive. Good on ya Elton ! 👍👍

Tim, after seeing ID Buzz has a glass sunroof you can opaque, with the flick of a button, why don't you consider a sunroof you can open and close and turn from transparent to opaque, depending upon the weather? Replacing the current one would come at a cost of course but the improvement in quality of life might be worth the upgrade.

Indeed though proper long adventures in the Ami aren’t really practical not least because of the extra hotel costs incurred due to the range (and inability to use motorways)

I have been the owner of an Ami for 18 months, and I have encountered considerable discomfort during longer journeys, which is a significant concern. I often travel from central Essex to the West End of London, which proves to be a quicker and more cost-effective option compared to public transportation, even when factoring in the relatively high costs of public charging for my return journey.
Parking is convenient, as I can connect to a kerbside charger for over three hours, only paying for the electricity I consume. However, I find the two-hour drive each way to be almost unbearably uncomfortable due to the seats in the vehicle.
While the Ami is highly suitable for local driving, I have decided to order a Dacia Spring. I plan to continue using the Ami for local errands, but I believe the Dacia will provide a more comfortable experience for longer trips. This will enable me to undertake journeys of up to 300 miles in a single day with greater ease.

The idea, not to get another car (with exactly the same questions 3 years later) but to consider renting a 'real' car when needed from time to time, will not only open your channel to wider rides but also a bit to some car review channel. Topgear Villefranche or so. You could even let the viewers decide, which car you should rent next 😂

We haven’t got a car, but we joined Citiz about ten years ago and for a small monthly fee we can rent at low cost one of over 60 cars parked all over the city, from tiny pandas to massive scenics. Have a look down there in Nice !

Hello Tim and Mr Boo. I'm in a state of shock given that it is 3 years since you got Elton. Where does the time go? I'm so glad to hear that Elton will remain on your channel for now. It's a wee trouper. Renting an electric car for longer distances would be a great idea and it could give you an opportunity to do an alternative car review if you were so minded. You mentioned the possibility of having 2 cars, where I live there are too many households with 2 or more cars these days.....no wonder driving (and parking) has become a nightmare. When I was young in the sixties there were 2 or 3 cars in my street, now there are 16+. That says it all... lol 😆 Keep up the great work and I look forward to your new adventures in 2025 😃

Thanks for the review, I saw my first Ami in a car park in Roscoff a few months ago. I like the concept of it, cars have become far too complicated these days. As for the heat problem, I think Citroen-shop does a roof blind for about 60 quid.

@@MeandMonAmi That`s a shame. It needs some enterprising soul to pop the roof glass out and replace it with a tilting sunroof, or maybe a Webasto unit like they used to fit in car roofs back in the 1970`s.
