so many, so so many tutorials asume that the audience knows what uvwrapping is, and what its purpose. i did not know after watch 5-6 tutorials on it. thanks for starting at the real biggening.
OMG THANK YOU for including the section at the end on applying the scale! I'd watched multiple videos on UV unwrapping, was following all the steps correctly and mu textures were still turning out warped and stretched. I didn't realize was missing this step. Thank you!
Just like your other videos, it makes me wonder if you are also a teacher in real life. The flow of information, the concise yet exhaustive content, all shows your great talent as an artist but more importantly for a YT channel as a top-notch pedagogue. Thank you for all the love and passion hiding behind every single piece of information!
Thanks again for another video..... You describe everything so well. Ive been working with blender for a few months now and I've learned so much from your videos alone. You definitely earned this subscription.
Perfect tutorial for beginners. (like me) Congratulations! You always explain in a way that is impossible to not understand! Thanks you very very much.
Totally will help me to unwrap my fast food orders without ending up all over my lap. Awesome as always man, a topic that so many creators just skip over or just show how without explanation.
your tutorials are very helpful than other youtubers because you also have an understanding of how a beginner's brain wants to be teached. the simplicity and the pacing. sorry im not good in english. your the best blender teacher here on youtube. I learn most of my stuff from your videos. if im going to an art school i want a teacher like you to teach.
This tutorial is so great. Thank you. I really like your voice, which is soothing and clear. You speak at a comfortable pace, not too fast or slow. Although English is not my native language, I can basically understand it.
Thank you for this tutorial, it cover all the basics needed to understand how to work with UV editing. I have been looking for tutorial like this for weeks that is not focus on a specific use of UV mapping.
What a perfect tutorial man, i'm glad google's first result is this video as it is best result indeed! Also i love how you say the keys you are pressing, that is often skipped ):
Thank you so much for this video! Very informative and well explained. With a lot of other tutorial videos I feel like I didn't really get an understanding of UVs, but this one really breaks everything down for a beginner like me, so I actually feel like I can apply what I learned on my own projects
Thank you for posting this. I was having a bunch of issues, wracking my brain wondering why this or that was happening. Your tutorial answered *a lot* of my questions.
ok.... I must have done something in blender to keep the UV edit window from showing the actual image texture cuz when I hit UV EDITING, my left window is the UV window but it just shows a blank grid instead of the wood texture I mapped to the cube (and it is showing on the cube but nothing shows in the UV edit window). ? I think this is what has been confusing me. Sometimes something shows up and sometimes or most times it doesn't. I think also maybe I have saved versions of projects with various settings and don't realize this. Like each blender file can have it's own settings for rendering so I think this is one prob. I guess I'll online search "why is my UV texture not showing in blender" haha I will get this working once and for all!!! UV isn't going to stop me from Blendering! SOLVED! You cannot just select your object and go into EDIT mode then UV tab. At least not in 3.5.1. You have to actually SELECT ALL THE FACES of your object while in edit mode using the FACE SELECT option up top then box select around the object or shift A whichever.... NOW, NOW finally... mwhahahah NOW my texture popped up in the left window! WHY isnt Blender coded to where if you have your entire object selected in OBJECT MODE then go into EDIT MODE, it should have all the faces selected by default so if you go into UV mode, your texture is there, waiting for you in that UV window. ? Notice at 6:55 Ryan has a FEW faces selected and that is why the image shows and why it only shows those faces on the UV map. He had selected FACE mode and selected those faces prior to going into UV editor. If not, he would have to have done A or select one face for the image to show. Anyway, SOLVED. another of the 1000 GOTCHAS when trying to make something in BLender. Clearly, if I select an entire object, the default should be all faces selected. THEN if I want to mess with one or more faces, I can deselect and select what I want. Why is Blender not set up this way? There are so many hidden places you have to go and do to get stuff to work. Only people with amazing memory or a homemade shortcut/cheat sheet list can get stuff done in less than a month! Thank gosh for some YT tutorials. I keep coming back to these ones by Ryan because mostly they work. Sometimes they don''t but it's a start. Mostly some varation of Blender versions and ignorance on my part. Ok.... I'm going to do UV editing for 3 days nonstop. I will eat, sleep and drink UVs until I DOMINATE THEM! Thx, Ryan.
@@RyanKingArt ive been teaching myself 3d for the past couple months and i have been avoiding UV mapping like the plague, and also nodes in general lmao. but this video makes them not seem so scary
This video explained to me exactly why I need to be turning my quads into tris or tets before using them as part of corners. I tried executing the basic UV unwrap principles on one of my little spaceship models, but when a quad gets "folded" or "creased" it becomes impossible to texture without more advanced techniques which I'm currently googling.
Hails King !! Thank you for teaching me this program. I saw some mushroom project files on youre store and I buying thoose as tribute. Thank you again for doing this, May the gods bring good things to you. /Orm in Norway.
I wish I had a tutorial like this back when I started 4 years ago. It felt like people were just playing dumb or maliciously overcomplicating things whenever I'd try to ask about it or look it up. Why do game engines always freak out over overlapping UV's of all things? Its never actually affected performance or visuals in my experience.
Thank you very much for this tutorial. The documentation doesn't mention that the UV editor requires Edit Mode. I was fumbling around trying to figure out what was going on. When I found it, I returned to the tutorial and as soon as I pressed play the next thing you mentioned was that it had to be in Edit Mode. 😂 Tutorial was good, I just suggest placing crucial information like that in the beginning. Order of operations kind of thing. Thank you once again!
Thank you very much for this amazing tutorial, but there is one question I am left with that I may have missed watching this. Let's say hypothetically there are multiple faces you created as separate shells(islands) and you want to put the back together. Does Blender have any way to stitch these shells?
Another question... anyone know if there is a switch in preferences to tell Blender to ALWAYS apply transforms immediately so I don't get hit with the same old aaaaaah, you didn't apply your transforms! ? That would be a nice default for me, at least. thx!
do you have any videos about how weird your textures look? because i just uv wraping myself, however it looks not as crisp and seemless like there is addded colord to the edges i know what the texture is supposed to look like and there are no dark splotches
Aside from making wonderful tutorials, I like how you always pronounce the last words in your sentences. It's usually more obvious when Blender is the last word you want to pronounce in a sentence. You stress the last words pretty good.. 😁😁😁
Hello I create starbucks cup and add logo to cup with uv editing but cup color looking like greenish because of the logo. How can i seperate logo color to plastic cup I tried lot of nodes but cant find it :(
Hello, question. On the left side of your screen where the texture is at. Can you configure blender to show the texture repeating? like tiled? Example 30:22 where the nodes go off the image. Can you configure blender to show the image in a repeating pattern so it's easier to see when the nodes go off the texture? Thank you for your time.

Question - Great video, thank you. Does this actually make texture when you 3D Print the model or is this just a "sticker"?
If your talking about texture maps, then no, normal maps don't actually effect the geometry, or shape of the object. its basically a fake bump.
@@RyanKingArt thanks for the reply, much appreciated. having a hell of time getting blender to properly texture my model.
Hi! Love the tutorial but I'm having trouble with the keybinds. They don't work, are you perhaps using an special set of keybinds?
