I love how you don't bother with attachments and optics on your rifles. I use iron sights and Colt magazines for my Colt rifle as well.

The stock isn’t original to the SP1. Neither is the barrel shrowd
During two tours in Vietnam during the period 9/1967 thru 08/1972, I was fortunate to acquire an XM177E1 on both tours. Went to an aviation unit as an aviator and didn’t need it any longer so traded with my special forces buddies for a M35 3/4 ton truck that I used on my new assignment at Cam Ranh Bay as my transportation to the beach on my days off. I was the only Lieutenant with my own vehicle. In the early 80’s I bought a SP1 and still have it. I’ll never give it up.

While we may not be able to own semi auto 5.56mm rifles, we can, by all means, own the Tippmann Arms M422 in semi auto. They're available in the UK, and they're well priced. Get you some!!!! I have a few now, great little rifles. Well built and reliable.
I got lucky enough to find a complete SP1 Carbine upper last month. I payed $250 for it. And old fellow Marine that I know gave me a great price. Now onto finding a SP1 lower for this at a fair price. That’s gonna be extremely tough. Great video.
Being a “different” type of person from Philadelphia I may or may not know someone who recently got a Colt SP1 .223 full build for $1500 can not say whether it was completely legal or not but looking forward to testing her out and sending some metal down range up the cabins

I like the car 15 but I like the SP one rifle the best it just feels so good my hands fits like a puzzle the triangular forearm I love the old Vietnam classics
My first M16 they issued me in Vietnam had a 3 prong flash suppressor, the second had the improved bird cage type as you have.
MINE HAD THE 3 PRONG FLASH HIDER ALSO....JIMP.

Always a great experience watching these videos, I do learn somethings, but I do enjoy laughing at the jokes. Sometimes just watching makes me have a better day.
I went to a gun show about 1998 with the plan to get a Colt AR. They were $200 higher than anything else, and in those days that was a 1000 rounds easy. I ended up with a Rock River Arms, it's been a great gun, but I wish I had bought the Colt.

I had a SP1 from 2002 to 2007 when I got divorced, sold half of all of my guns to finance the divorce and my beloved sp1 was one of them, worst decision I ever made. Let it go for 800, had the old school triangular handguard.
I feel your pain, but I sold a FN Fal and a Winchester Trapper .45 because when I bought my house the called the day before closing and said they had miscalculated the down payment and closing cost. I miss the Trapper and you can’t even find them anymore.
I sold my Ruger SuperBlackHawk .44mag 8"barrel for $150 back in '94 to help finance a motorcycle😭😭😭😭

I kept my stuff when I got divorced and got more later.
As someone who has been there, even when you are in the middle of it you are very awear it not abusing your weapons or anything else. You never know when you will be able too replace what you have. Looking forward to the Sunday shoot around. Thanks for all you do!

after all the guns he shot he still got his passion and enjoys every single shot. talk about dedication.
That's the first SP-1 I've seen in that configuration. A hot barrel wears out much quicker because of the hot gases pushing past the bullet from the increased diameter of the bore. Crew served MG's know to swap barrels as soon as the range starts to fall off. Man, I wish I could replace ANY of my seller's remorse guns.
How was the gun shop experience in the 1980s compared to today? Was it more Uzis and Mac-10s vs AR Rifles, or was it a mix of WW2 Mil Surp M1 Garands along with the 1980s rifles? Super cool Vintage AR by the way!😊
My Dad (Dominican Immigrant) first went into a Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania Gun Shop in 1982 at 15 years old. First ever time in a Gun Store. He and his high-school friends vacationed there for a week. They lived in Elizabeth, NJ.
My Dad and his (still to this day) best friend Joe (both 15 going on 16), said that WW2 Surplus Rifles, Pump and Semiauto Shotguns plus .357 and .44 Revolvers were mostly in stock.
SKS Rifles, a couple FN FALs and a couple SP1 AR15s. Stereotypical "Hunting Rifles" were actually in the minority.
His older friend Eli turned 18 one week before that trip. Bought a Winchester 1200 and SKS plus plenty of ammo in bulk.
My father's 4 other friends are all Puerto Rican. The Gun Store Owners never batted an eye about selling those guns to a Puerto Rican. Great conversations about Firearms, and the owner was a WW2 and Korea War Veteran.
3:24 it looks like a game. I remembered resident evil 4, for the scenery.
When I was in 7th ID, I shot a Harrington Richardson A1 with 3, 30rd mags back to back. on full auto just at sunset. The barrel turned cherry red and you could see the gas tube was white hot. For a few seconds you could see the front sight post twisted to the left about 5 degrees. It came right back as it started to cool! Never did that again!

When I was around 13 my father bought me one in the early 90's. Great price back then. Still have it.

Yes, I met him a couple of times when I lived in Franklin, Tn. One of his band members was a neighbor of mine.
Pretty damn sure I've come across 1 or 2 of these down here in South Africa in my days as a firearms dealer. There were a good few Colt SP1's and CAR-15's floating around in the 80's already. And possibly a GAU-5 too.
I'm always looking forward to it. The performance of the gun is the same, and the shooting technique is also wonderful. I respect you.👍👏👏👏

Do you think our current system which does outright ban some guns and already puts restrictions on allowed ones is unconstitutional and illegal? Cus the supreme court obviously doesn't.
I live in Massachusetts bought an SP1 last year to build a “Preban” so I could have “evil features” got a BCM 16” Reece upper absolutely love it

Basic spartan light versatile carbine. All you need. Had one once... downside it keyholed 62 gr bullets.
These are still fine defense carbines!

I wish I could spend a couple hours range time with you... you remind me a little of my neighbor when I was a kid, except he had a potty mouth, but he was a WWII Marine Corp vet, turned gunsmith. When I was 10, he let me shoot a .460 Nitro Express (or something like that)rifle that I believe did some permanent shoulder damage to me. He called it an elephant gun. Such a great time learning and shooting with elders

I used Ballistol on a creaky car door hinge the other day- worked wonders. Just a few drops did the trick.
Cool old rifle! By late 1975, when I joined the USMC, we were issued the M16A1. So, I have never handled the SP1.

Piston driven Stag Arms version here (v8)...Fancy Dimondback is gas driven.
Both great arms, but the Stag 8 has a punch and cyclic rate that just gives more :D and punishment than the Dback.
As close to an AK as an AR-15 can get w/o much bruising.

I got one of those in 2007. First rifle. It was a “pre-ban” all it meant to me was that i couldnt remove the flash suppressor and couldn’t adjust the stock. I sold it just before the AR ban. Immediately after, all AR-15s more than doubled in value.
Hickok 45 hey I love that car 15 but BUT!! But I love my A-1 SP1 I love the triangular for grips and I love that car 15 to I am old school but as you know the A2 can be fitted with a triangular for grip and if I had one that’s what type of Ford grip would be on it I love that feel the A1 fit in my hand like a puzzle and they are my favorite of all A.R. 15‘s mine that I bought brand new still in the Box 1979 colt SP1. I love it the only thing is that I wished it was a one and 9 inch twist but I just keep 55 green in it and have plenty of ammo
Wasn't that long ago when you could get a basic AR for $400 in my area, a new in the box rifle. They are $1,000 now and you can't find ammo.
I bought my diamond back DB-10 for $750 two and a half years ago. Brand new.
Depends, I got lucky and paid $730 for a M&P15 a couple months ago.

Yes and you can never have enough clips or enough ammo I don’t care if you got 1 trillion you’re still one round short in my world I love the old school it takes my breath when I caress mine. Thanks for the video I really enjoyed seeing that car 15 indeed it is a fabulous work of art in Eugene stoner did a very fabulous job creating it just as well as Mikal Kalashnikov design his rifle they did the world a great service to give us the common man the teeth to bite back at our worthless aggressive government my heads off to both of those gentlemen👍👍👍👍👍👍

I bought one in 1983 while being station at Fort Bragg, I wish I would have kept it.
Just bought one (allegedly) in Philly for $1500 same model Colt Ar-15 .223 SP1 any tips or advice would help as I am not familiar with the older models but seems to be in great condition for its age if it really dates back to the mid 70s

@Hickok45 What did you trade for it? Also, I want to thank you for turning me on to Ballistol. It really is a miracle product. I did some research, and it was formulated for the German army around World War 1. The requirements were that it had to be useful on wood, metal, and leather, and not be harmful to any of those, or to people. That's a tall order, but it fit the bill. When I get a European milsurp, I disassemble it, clean all parts and stock with degreaser detergent, dry everything, and then spray and rub down everything with Ballistol. You should see it bring a 120 year old leather sling back to life. Ditto for wood stocks. Thanks again.
the SP1 is cool, wish I could afford one, they are ussually around $2000 these days, the original assault weapons ban started when I was 4 years old, I didn't know anything about it back then, but I know about now, and never want to see assault weapons ban happen again
