Bravo for Memorial Day content. My ROTC instructor made a point of firing full auto off his groin to dispel any recoil fears. It was effective. He also made a point of pulling two rounds from the magazines we were using. 20 or 30 didn't matter - minus two. He told us it was to improve reliability. Reason aside, the firearms we used for training didn't fail. You left out the 30 carbine. But I think I understand why. It was intended to be a replacement for the 1911. Didn't work out so well. Ammo issues plagued it. Not because of the gun or cartridge, but because hot weather deterents were in the powder of ammo being used in minus 20F weather. My uncle and his fellow soldiers kept their ammo under their coats, and they stripped the oil and used graphite lubrication. It worked, but it wasn't a universal approach, so the 30 carbine got an "underpowered" reputation it didn't deserve. Stoner felt that the gas piston system contributed to the poor performance reports about the 30 carbine. That's why he chose direct gas impingement. He felt that direct impingement would counter any issue arising from temperature changes. He was right, but like the 30 carbine, the system was almost scuttled because of poor powder choice. The Army tried to use up the WW2 powder in a system that didn't like that kind of powder. Unlike the 30 carbine, the M-16 survived that initial poor performance by switching to proper powder. Stoner was a man ahead of his time. Or maybe he was just a good engineer who knew what to do to solve a particular problem. Doesn't matter. His name is now engraved in history just like Browning's.

Springfield M14 was used in early Vietnam campaign. It was 7.62 cal. Won’t forget it. The recoil spring flew out of it in practice in 1968 at Fort Benning, Ga. I proceeded to tell my DI that my GUN had broke. Worst thing in the world I could have said!
My M14 never broke on me and kept me alive in vietnam. Semper fi greatest US rifle ever made. We all kept the M14s until they forced us to switch to the mattel toys.
@@nolife1199 They teach you that “Guns” are for the Navy, only on ships. To the Army or Marines it’s a rifle or weapon. My DI called me things my mama never taught me and made me crawl on hands and knees in front of about 200 other troops when I said it. That’s why I’ll never forget. Let’s be thankful for the ones who didn’t make it back to tell their stories. Happy Memorial Day and GOD bless America.

I just want to say thank you, I’ve watched you’re videos for 12 years. You my sir is a class act, I hope to be like you when I’m older. Greetings from walnut cove, NC.
@ Hickok45: Thanks for the video, sir! Well done! Yes, the M1903 Springfield was the standard-issue arm of the Marine Corps going into the Second World War. In those days, the Army Ordnance Corps supplied the USMC with equipment and arms, and the thinking in the 'Corps, rightly or wrongly, was that the Marines only got something when/if the army was certain they didn't need it. Sure enough, the first units to get reequipped with the M-1 were Army and not Marine. However, there was institutional resistance to the Garand in the Corps, the thinking being that it could not possibly be as excellent a weapon as the Springfield, which was by then something of a legend in the 'Corps. It took the war, specifically combat and facing Japanese Banzai charges at places like Guadalcanal, to change minds in the Corps. Thereafter, the Corps rapidly equipped with M-1s and relegated the Springfields to specialist and second-echelon uses.
Mr. Hickock, thank you for mentioning the real reason why we have the Memorial Day holiday, and not just a "long weekend" as the VP of the United States of America thinks!
This is one of my favorite TH-camr! I’ve lived all over Tennessee and it has a part of my life. May God be with the fallen soldiers that sacrificed their lives to keep us and our freedoms alive.
The most excellent instructor on firearms. I would choose this guy over everyone to learn how to shoot. You'd never need to erase bad habits in the first place.
Yep, my father carried the '03 Springfield when he landed with the First Marine Division on Guadalcanal August 7th, 1942. It remained his favorite rifle! They replaced his '03 with an M1 Garand at the Melbourne Cricket grounds, but he never liked the Garand.

*From **13:40** to **13:43** brought back nice memories.* I fondly remember a certain SSgt who taught me to shoot the M16A1 in 1977, with which I earned a Rifle Expert medal.
Thank you Hickok! We still respect your soldiers a lot!!! greetings from the Netherlands.
I just watched your oldest videos and there is a huge journey that every TH-camr dreams...really AMAZING, I admire your work 👏👏.
Thank you for doing this . . . and, especially, for the profound sacrifices it commemorates.
It’s amazing how 45 can go from one gun to another and hit the target like he was shooting with the gun all day.
I was fortunate to serve. And, I did get to carry two of those wonderful firearms you displayed, a 1911 and an M16. Thanks for all of your wonderful videos!
My uncle was a WW2 veteran and I have his 03. My most prized possession.
If Hockok45 offers a university class about guns and rifles, I'm sure most of us will score really high
The way he explains everything, the gun/rifle, the history of it, and all the little details is really spot on
In my opinion , I think what makes the M1 Grand so iconic , not the weapon itself , but that famous "Ping" sound
I was up in Cheatham county just a couple of weeks ago for a veterans memorial dedication and was surprised and pleased by the size of the crowd.
In my 20 year military career I, carried the M16A1. M1911A1, M16A2, M9 and finally the M4 Carbine
In my career, I carried the M16A2, M249 SAW, during active duty, then the M4 while in the national guard.
Just retired last November 2020
Retired Army 1SG here! Great video! Love what you do.
All gave some, Some gave all. To all the veterans who went before me, thank you for defending our country so I could after you.
Hello 👋 I hope you're safe over there? I am Thorsten from Key West Florida🇱🇷and you?
I hope this year brings prosperity happiness and love💞all over the world🕊🤗🙏
Hickok is a true American. I know I appreciate everything you do for gun owners and for veterans.
Salute to Our Veterans. Past, present, future.
Thank you for the memorial day shoot always an honor and a pleasure to watch your show and it still seems like we are fighting for our freedom
RIP Gunny.
Some of the greatest things I learned in life are from men like this, and my respect towards them are astronomical.
Guys like Hickok are a Dying Breed...
Why is that the worst thing
@@nolife1199 They teach you that “Guns” are for the Navy, only on ships. To the Army or Marines it’s a rifle or weapon. My DI called me things my mama never taught me and made me crawl on hands and knees in front of about 200 other troops when I said it. That’s why I’ll never forget. Let’s be thankful for the ones who didn’t make it back to tell their stories. Happy Memorial Day and GOD bless America.
Hickok45 as a veteran we appreciate the thank yous but more importantly we would like everyone to remember those that gave all for our freedoms. Also you should have done a 21 gun salute and everyone please just take a moment of silence.
Thanks keep the videos coming.
Is it normal that the Springfield sounds like a little monster canon? Amazing!
Thank you to all that have served and continue to serve our nation. R.I.P to all that have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country we love you.
Granted: the 1911 has staying power!
I still carry one.
I just want to say thank you, I’ve watched you’re videos for 12 years. You my sir is a class act, I hope to be like you when I’m older. Greetings from walnut cove, NC.
Greetings from Kentucky , keep on shooting sir although you might need a couple of more shots lol
Love the video, thanks for sharing and happy Memorial Day to y'all
Happy America day🇺🇸 🎉
@ Hickok45: Thanks for the video, sir!
Iconic US Military Rifles aka Freedom Sticks

"Hahaha, got it though."
Thank you to all of our Service Men and Women, and God Bless America.
I just want to see them all I’m excited
The US saved Australia's ass in WWII. My dad served in New Guinea along side your boys. Forever grateful and thank you so much.
I gotta find the picture of my grandad smiling with his m14 in Korea
Watching from Turkey! This channel is awesome!
Hickok needs to be on Mount Rushmore. Any questions?
How soon can it be done
Thank you to all the men and women who have served and didnt come back. I pray and thank the men and women who are still serving today
"Yea, I'm sure it did, as we know war was a quiet place, always so quiet..." LOL
Thank you veterans, young and old. 🙏 Hickok and John thanks for the great video, sir's 👍
I'd have liked to see the M-14 added in there.
Love the honorable mention for R. Lee Ermy.
I've always wondered what the next major step in fire arm technology is going to be. Maybe energy based weapons instead of ballistic ones?
Thanks to you Hickock for what you and John do. Keep the firearms lifestyle alive, and god bless our veterans and fallen soldiers.
bolt, to semi automatic, to full automatic.....and some pistol that went along with all three.
The most excellent instructor on firearms. I would choose this guy over everyone to learn how to shoot. You'd never need to erase bad habits in the first place.
God bless all our fallen soldiers and their legacies 🙏
Great video as always! Many blessings to the Hickok45 family. God Bless America!
"All gave some, some gave all."🇺🇲
Yep, my father carried the '03 Springfield when he landed with the First Marine Division on Guadalcanal August 7th, 1942. It remained his favorite rifle! They replaced his '03 with an M1 Garand at the Melbourne Cricket grounds, but he never liked the Garand.
I have a 1903 and a Garand love them both I also have a M1 carbine that’s a fun shooter, also from WW2 I’ve got a lee enfield no 4 mk1 a mosin nagant
