Corsair Darkstar wireless review - so many buttons and tilting too?

  • Here's my review of the @corsair Darkstar wireless, a high-spec MMO/MOBA gaming mouse with insane specs that include 15 programmable buttons, tilt gesture controls, a 26,000 DPI optical sensor, 2,000Hz polling rate, optical switches and quick strike button design and much more besides.
    I like big mice with lots of buttons and though I don't play MMO or MOBA games, this is still worth considering. It's comfortable and has an insane amount of programmable buttons.

    I actually just bought this mouse I think it's probably the lightest mouse I've got. The M65 and the scimitar are a little heavier. You could easily use the darkstar for FPS games though as it does feel pretty light in the hand. If you're the type that needs to zoom around the desk and flick it around 😂

    More tactile (stable) and higher (or larger) scroll wheel + some minor side button adjustments, and this would quite literally easily be the #1 MMO mouse for me. It's already among the lightest MMO mice, so a couple grams here and there won't hurt even with the gesture function. Corsair is onto something very special here, just needs to refine it further.
    Raw performance and looks -wise this mouse is a top dog.

    Seems interesting, I don't care much for the RGB or the tilt functions , but I enjoy the thumb button placements, besides maybe that top bottom one, but it seems rather overpriced and too many functions, so I'd be interested in it when it goes on sale.

    • @dizzychocobo
      @dizzychocobo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What have you thought of it? My poor Rival 500 is dying and I'm trying to find something similar, since its design works really well with my nerve damage limitations. But the price makes wince!

    • @thrashinuva
      @thrashinuva 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Exactly!!! I moved to a wireless mouse because my Rival 500 was dying, and after I barely managed to buy a replacement due to it being older and they wanted to phase it out (I think they brought it back temporarily at one point). I got the Spatha X, but it's heavy, and the buttons are all clustered together and lifting it is a serious pain, and the shape is terrible. I'll miss the wireless charging but half the time I forget to dock it anyways, so I think I'm gonna try this one. Already have a corsair keyboard so I've already got iCue. I was also missing the mouse wheel tilts, but the gestures sounds pretty neat too.

    • @heinyboi
      @heinyboi 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've thought the same thing, my rival 500 has been my holy grail not just for gaming but editing as well. Seeing producers look at anything more than 6 buttons (m1-5 and DPI/Profile) as daring is legitimately sad.
      If anyone is looking or an MMO/MOBA mouse for hotkeys in productivity, I'd say the MX Master 3 is good. Simply cause all five buttons besides left and right click can be assigned gesture functions, totalling 25 hotkeys per profile

    Hi, Prawn
    Does the DARKSTAR RGB have any rubber coating on it?
    I've had a lot of really bad experiences with rubber coating.
    These kind of keyboards and mice were great when they were brand new, but they became sticky after a few years, and I really don't like that kind of texture.
    Thank you.

  • @NoobahSteve
    @NoobahSteve 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    for that price hopefully the build quality matches. I have always had issues with expensive razer and corsair products that for one feel cheaper than its price tag and secondly, end up have either minor annoying issues or more serious problems that ruin the quality and experience with the device or ruins the the use of the device all together. I also think the software these companies put out could be 10 times better for the amount of money these companies bring in.

      @@BrokoFankone every mouse is overpriced. It’s a piece of plastic and some wires and a circuit board. They make these at the factory for a few bucks and then sell them for $30-$200USD. But as a consumer we need to see how far we want to be screwed over and for what it’s worth.

    • @BrokoFankone
      @BrokoFankone 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@duzty122 Yeah, but not every mouse *looks* overpriced. For example, Logitech have far better-looking models which don't look cheap. The scroll wheel on this mouse looks like a rubber tire from a toy car, literally. This side panel certainly doesn't scream quality to me either. The arrangement of the buttons looks horrible and inaccessible. So it looks both cheap and badly designed, which I would say fits perfectly with the Corsair brand.

    How far forward are the thumb buttons on the Darkstar in comparison to other MMO mice? The Aerox 9 you need 5''' thumbs to reach 123. I really wish MMO mice would take a note from the old Naga Epic: swappable pinky grips. Every MMO mouse is nearly impossible to fingertip grip with how wide they are!

      The Scimitar is horrendous, I tried it and the main clicking buttons would BOTH get slightly stuck on each press. Never had such an issue with any mouse, certainly not out of the box. Razer Nagas are prone to breaking, but all of the ones I've used at least worked when I first bought them. And they are also far better designed and actually ergonomic. Scimitar is super uncomfortable.

I play with both the “gyro” feature and the lighting disabled, at 2000hz, and get a good couple of days to a week of playtime, with about 6-8h of playtime a day on average. It’s about on-par with other mice in this class, think Basilisk Pro V3, Naga V2 Pro, at least with the gyro disabled. Imagine constantly polling for tilt constantly over 2000hz, on top of polling for every other normal thing a mouse does… yeah, you get where that 20h figure comes from. Completely acceptable for a very feature-packed mouse like this.
