I am setting up an iPad for my mother (87) ... I am only 66 🙂and an IT professional (software developer). I have had iPhones and iPads for some years, but Holy Cow!!! ... I learned some new tricks in this video. Great video: perfect length and easy set up tips. I am setting up and sending to my mother so will save this and probably more of your videos for her to watch also.
Thanks for creating this content Rich. I send this for my parents so they get a bit more versed with using their iPads. Please keep up the content, maybe some app specific videos too. Keep up the great work!
Hi Rich, thank you so much. My Mac is failing and I can’t afford to replace it so l bought an iPad Air 5. I have an old iPad mini, but things have changed so much I had no clue how to use my new one. Thankfully I found you and I’m now up to seed. Thanks again.
Hi Graham. Thanks so much for watching. Do you like your iPad Air 5th generation? I almost bought one this week. Do you like the Touch ID button? I almost think the iPad Air is the best value in the iPad line up.
Thanks! You taught me how to change weather location! I couldn’t figure out how to do that. Just subscribed to your channel. Hopefully you’ll teach me some more tips!!!👍🏻❤

Why O Why don’t we get decent user Guides from Manufacturers anymore? Thank you so much for your Guides , I would be lost 😩without people such as yourselves who take the time to help 😁
Thank you so much for the tip on installing widgets. I used it on my iPhone as well. Always wanted to put the Weather widget on my screen. My customer support tech guru son couldn't help as he isn't familiar with apple products. He lives in a Win Doze environment.

Couple of questions for you- 1. My dock is always changing as I use apps, is there any way to have my dock remain the same with only apps that I choose? 2. Do you use Mission Control?- Benefits, Uses etc would be a helpful video.
To limit the dock to only the apps you select: Settings, Home Screen and Multitasking. Turn off the option labeled “Show Suggested and Recent Apps in Dock”
Thanks so much I so much enjoyed the video. I have a new ipad and unable to add passwords because the ipad keyboard does not stay still and changes. Help!
Hi, Rick I am new to Apple and bought an iPad Air M2. I have one question on the Home Screen layout. In mine every time I use an icon from a non listed in Home Screen, my Home Screen change to include that next time I use the iPad. How do I lock the Home Screen?
I have iPad OS17.6.1. When I swipe down from the home screen on the right I get a different screen. It shows the Search icon and says Control Center and then lists Suggestions and Website. Not at all like yours. Suggestion?
Many are free - totally free. Other's have a free trial period and then you have to buy the app. Then there are apps that are completely free, but if you want the more sophisticated capabilities, you have to pay for it. If you read about the app, the info should be there. Also, you can read the reviews. People will complain if there's a trick fee.
@@RichBowlin Thanks Rich. I discovered just that. The app I am interested in is Notability. Seems there is a free version with limitations that are removed by a subscription. And also "add-ons."
I received my first iPad (Mini 5, iOS 15) this Christmas. How do you have NO icons on your Home Screen? I would prefer to have NO icons on My Home Screen and access apps through the Dock and the App Library. How did you do that?
I LOVE a clean home screen. Just tap and hold on a n empty part of the home screen. When the icons start jiggling, tap the "x" and then tap "remove from Home screen." The apps then go into your App Library.Super easy!. Thanks for watching.

That's a great idea. I'm really a minimalist when it comes to apps (even though I try out a lot). I have to routinely clean up that mess too. I hope people see your comment, Thanks for watching!
Love your videos but did you ever run into iPad 9 th gen 22021 that you can only text to people who have apple products? doesn't work with android products !
That's standard across all Apple devices. iMessage is only available for iDevices. Apple doesn't want any non-iOS/macOS device to use iMessage so they lock it down to only iDevices.
I really enjoy your videos! I have an iPad mini 6 and I'd like to set up with my iPhone so I get texts on both devices. This would be especially helpful when websites send me a verification number to prove I'm who I say I am. I had the settings right on myinini 4 but can't seem to find what I need to do on my mini 6. Can you help?!
Hi Frances! Take your finger and place it on the line between the two apps. Then just slide to the right and you'll have one app on full screen! Hope this helps.
Downloaded files are almost always going to be in a folder in the files app. In fact, I'm not sure the iPad will do it any other way. Maybe dig around in there again and you'll find what you're looking for. Hope this helps.
There's no feasible way to bypass the lock screen password. The only thing you can do is to factory reset the iPad by putting it into DFU mode (plenty of videos and guides online on how to do this) and restore it through iTunes on your computer. This will of course erase everything off of the iPad. If you have iCloud enabled, when you go to setup your iPad it will ask you to enter your iCloud account email and password in order to continue.
I don't think so - well at least automatically. You can get close setting things up manually. I actually do this. But I use the same wallpaper for the phone and iPad and only have app in the dock - not all over the screen. It's not perfect but I get what you're trying to do.
I am also 91 years old and I have used an Apple Air for 8 years. I watch all of our videos for seniors and have learned so much. I am vision impaired. Would like to upgrade to a newer Apple iPad that would not empty my bank account. Do you have any suggestions 😊

Hold the volume up or down button and the power button for about 2 seconds and then you should see a "slide to power off" message. Apple, in their infinite wisdom, likes to think different so something as simple as holding the power button to power off is not good enough.
