This is it! I couldn't fit rounded nail forms because of my nail beds being too straight. I just tried your tip on making that extra piece straight at one edge and it fits perfectly! Thank you! No more gel stuck under my natural nails from now
Some educators are teaching form placement in a downward angle, some straight and even slightly pointing upward. Can you show us your preference for different nail shapes and why?
That was so helpful thank you. I do both tips and forms depending on the nails and what mood I’m in, now you’ve taught me those three things I can see me forming much more. I can’t wait to practice.
Thanks for sharing Tracey but i 've learned that we cut the forms from the sidewalls too, so the C curve is going to be more intense and the form is able to fit better to every type of nail and also avoiding touching the skin with acrylic if the sidewalls are in to skin. Maybe you should show that too even thought i never see you or greg do that and i wonder why! Thanks again and keep safe! Love you guys ❤️
Thanks for the comments about the extended hyponychium, or the "quick." I've always wondered why they grow with false nails (I like it because my nails are supported better.) One tip for others: The hyponychium will recede drastically if you use cuticle oil underneath your nails. I found out the hard way thinking that oil under my nails would help make them stronger. For those whose hyponychium is extended oil does help though. I have this problem on my toenails. Maybe I will also try pushing them under in the shower as you said.
It works perfect for my nails with the snip in the center. I was trying the paper the other day and I could not make it fit there was a big gap now it goes right on my nail. Thank you soooo much now I will do my nails without the plastic tip. :)
I just ran into this issue a couple days ago witha client. She had super wide nail beds and I couldn't find tips that fit and the forms where to narrow. Somehow I made it work but it took alot more work than necessary now that I've seen this video. Thanks for ur help.
thank you so much, I am beginner and was losing hope turns out I have a square nail and I wasn't sure where to cut the form, very helpful video and you explained really well thank you and after the technique it fitted onto my nail x
I always have an issue with getting acrylic under the free edge or sometimes my free edge is too short and I can’t get a form to comfortably fit. Definitely going to try some of these and hope I have better luck with forms. Thank you so much!
Once you put your form on put a dryer bead of clear acrylic just on the free edge of the nail and just onto the form then let it dry before applying the rest, that will stop you getting that bit underneath the nail.
I'm the weirdo who wants the acrylic between the form and underneath my nail. It makes it smooth, something I despise about tips. It sandwiches my nail. It's not excessive buildup or anything just a thin line. It hides my natural nail also so I can keep growing them out
@@brooke3140 l know exactly what you mean, sometimes l like it too as it gives the nail a bit of extra strength so it doesn't snap at the end of the natural nail.
Thank you!!! im going to try this out. I only have 2 round nails but shape them to be square like the rest. Putting nail forms on are a nightmare and i Didnt know it was because my nails were square.
FINALLY someone shows the hyponychium problem I have. THANK YOU! Square nail beds with the extended hyponychium. I'll just combine the two. I haven't been able to use forms because half my fingers are like that.
Omg thank you so much! First time doing my own gel and I couldn’t get the form flush under my broken nail. Your tip of cutting the oval insert was incredible and totally did the trick. This is a must watch for beginner DIY nail techs
That first tip on the nail forms was soooo helpful I can’t wait to try it. I suck at acrylic but I’ve been using a lot of builder gel so hopefully it works well
Thank you so much for posting this video. I tried to use builder gel on my nails 3 days ago. I went through 10 forms total on only 2 nails and still didn't get a decent extension. I definitely needed this video.
First: you look like Jennifer Morrison. Second: I'm gonna give a shout out to my amazing nail instructor in my nail school back in 2006 who taught us well with these exact remedies you taught here. I've always been curious why people struggle so hard until I realized, not all instructors are created equal. Thanks for the video!
Another amazing video! Thanks for the great advice! Forms were very intimidating to me and still are but they apply so well! Perfectly and very personalized! It’s great going hand in hand with the whole craft of doing nails. Personalized expierinces I think
Oh what would we have done without YoungNails!!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with the rest of the world!!! I always fall back on your tutorials when I have a problem, sometimes one just forget how to solve a problem and Presto YoungNails is there to save the day!! Stay safe!! 💖💅🌸
I love this channel and your explanations. You are so to the point and easy on the beginners. I needed a video like this because I am not a professional nail artist, I am just curious to learn. 🙏👍😁
Aww..Forms. Tracey and that RRRT🤣 taught us this technique in beauty school and BLAH! Never mastered it, but the time u take to educate us is priceless Actually on my way to "enjoying forms" again. 😅😁Thank U!
Thank you so much for this video, is very helpful. Question : it matters the form that you using? I can see on the market many different type of forms. Thanks ❤️❤️❤️
It's so encouraging to hear that professionals who are so good at what they do once struggled with the same problems I did and still eventually got really good. Gives me some. hope 😅
I only been practicing nails for a month, and for some reason the forms seem easier than tips but usually it’s reverse for most people. Still early for me to tell bc I’m a beginner but I was surprised.
I found forms easier right from the start too. 3 years in, i never use tips, all my clients have been converted to fully sculpted nails and they love it. I never really got the hang of tips
I knew all of them. But the hyponychium one is a great tip. As I like to grow my own natural nails and do acrylic overlay. But now I have cut off all my nails. And it hurts when I put on the forms. So this is a great tip. Thank you ❤️
I’m currently working on my form placement because I struggle. I love sculpted nails and want to be great at this technique. I have a problem with my forms fitting on the side of the nail properly. Happy to help!
Some educators are teaching form placement in a downward angle, some straight and even slightly pointing upward. Can you show us your preference for different nail shapes and why?
We prefer straight for majority, structure works for us this way.
Check out Gemma Lambert, she did a video about this about a month ago.
I have been struggling so much with forms. You're a life saver!!

Square form trick should help that
