--------------------------------------------------------------------
The Last of Us Part II is a 2020 action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Set five years after The Last of Us (2013), the game focuses on two playable characters in a post-apocalyptic United States whose lives intertwine: Ellie, who sets out in revenge for a murder, and Abby, a soldier who becomes involved in a conflict between her militia and a religious cult. The game uses a third-person perspective; the player must fight human enemies and cannibalistic zombie-like creatures with firearms, improvised weapons, and stealth.
Development began in 2014, soon after the release of The Last of Us Remastered. Neil Druckmann returned as creative director, co-writing the story with Halley Gross. The themes of revenge and retribution were inspired by Druckmann's experiences growing up in Israel. Ashley Johnson reprises her role as Ellie, while Laura Bailey was cast as Abby. Their performances included the simultaneous recording of motion and voice. Gustavo Santaolalla returned to compose and perform the game's score. The developers pushed the technical capabilities of the PlayStation 4. Development reportedly included a crunch schedule of 12-hour workdays and cost around US$220 million, making it one of the most expensive video games to develop.
Following some delays, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Last of Us Part II was released for the PlayStation 4 on June 19, 2020, and a remastered version was released for the PlayStation 5 on January 19, 2024. It received critical acclaim for its gameplay, audio design, score, performances, characters, and visual fidelity, though its narrative and themes divided critics. It was the subject of review bombing on Metacritic, with some players criticizing the story and characters; discourse surrounding the game became adversarial. Part II is one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games and the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive, with over four million units sold in its release weekend, and over ten million by 2022. It won more than 320 Game of the Year awards and received multiple other accolades from awards shows and gaming publications.

Man is this guy a simp for this failed story game
omg dude.
I don't have TikTok in my country.
They've banned it 😭
@@tanelviil9149It’s not failed, I’m also a simp for TLOU2. It’s superior to the first game and it’s a masterpiece imo.
@@ryanbollinger1759What’s superior about it comepaired to the first one. Do tell? What makes this game a masterpiece?
Please don't make it mandatory for your followers to make multiple accounts to be eligible. You can make it so participants vote on all platforms they have an account on, and more votes mean more chances. But my support on YT should not block me from participating just because I refuse to have a TikTok account.
Also, for context: I already have the game AND the upgrade, so I don't really need to participate. I am just drawing attention to healthy principles.
If anything, this should be called a 'Director's Cut' instead of a 'Remaster'
agreed. when other video games does directors cuts like Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding for example. technically, it's also sort of a remaster because they updated some of the visuals of course, but no one would complain about its year gap because its not called a remaster
I keep seeing this complaint but I don’t get it, who cares what they call it, directors cut isn’t even the right term for if u wanna think of movie director cuts, there’s minor performance improvements to asset resolution, render distances & dual sense support (remaster), Lost Levels cut content (collectors edition), a new roguelite game mode (DLC) & at least one edited cutscene shot near the beginning of the game (directors cut). This package is Last of Us 2 for PS5 & whether they call it a Directors cut, remaster, collectors/complete edition or anything else it won’t be accurate because this package is a bit of all of the above
@@anthonytitone People want it to be called "Director's Cut" because it's still more accurate than just "Remaster". Your comment even illustrates that since remasters almost never come with things like developer commentary.
@@Seoul_Soldier how is it a directors cut tho? This literally has no difference in story and has more features added than the last of us remastered
"Directors Cut" doesn't even make sense
Naughty Dog missed the opportunity to add baby JJ as playable character. It would be hilarious.
TLOU3 plot spoiled right here
Like how joel can't dodge, jj can't stand, he can only stat in prone
The No Return mode is very fun so far
Fr. I’ve done 8 runs but only won 1 of them(as Dina). To be fair imma bit rusty but a lot of fun for sure.
Edit: finally won my second as yara(lev is kinda OP)
I just hope they add new areas, or add some areas from Part 1 somehow. It gets repetitive a bit playing the same few areas.
It's really weird: We used to have gamemodes like these in games like a decade ago.
Now it's impressive to even have either just story or multiplayer
The uncapped framerate mode is what really sold me on this. Runs beautifully on my 120hz TV. Didn't bother importing my PS4 saves because I want to play through the whole thing fresh again, so I haven't even tried any of the extra content yet lol. Visuals have always been excellent since I first bought the game on PS4 Pro, but the enhanced framerates are the real draw here, especially if you own a 120Hz + monitor or TV.
Best thing about this for sure. When PS5 pro comes out we'll be able to play uncapped fidelity mode which should run at 60fps. Games need to continue to add these future proof features so the games scale better with next gen consoles.
@@obredaanps3 is there a confirmation of a PRO system?
@@obredaanps3 Yeah I'm definately hoping PS5 Pro will get us native 4K @60fps. I'm sure the hardware will be able to handle it, I think it's a matter of the devs willing to do a pro-update for only one console. Studios like Naughty Dog among other Sony-related studios will get it done, most likely. I'm a big fan of more FPS than resolution at this point. 4K has bloated file size among games so much, imagine how big 8K games will be. Strange marketing move from Sony for Advertising 8K on the PS5 box, imo. I'll be happy to support 4K 60/90/10 fps for devs willing to put the work in for PS5 Pro instead of spending thousands of dollars for a PC that can do it as well. Inb4 PC master race crowd comes rolling in lol. I love PC too.
@@x-Bsyde-x It's a $10 upgrade (for me, at least) that adds more functionality, gameplay, and content overall. I'd obviously love it if every studio did this for free, but tbh a $10 upgrade for all that isn't even close to egregious imo and I don't think it's realistic to think that every studio should do this for free. People mention this is more of a "Director's Cut", which I tend to agree with, but it's not a "bad" one by any means. Ghost of Tsushima DC cost $20 at launch. It had more content, but no one said a word about that.
@@Kuhazan Not official confirmation, but a pretty good amount of rumours from reliable sources. It seems very likely. Most think it will launch Fall 2024.
I think what you're referring to as Grounded is just the permadeath mode, which you can play on Grounded if you really want to stress yourself out
And there are two trophies that are on grounded exclusively
Just to note, the custom difficulty was something that was implemented in the original ps4 version of part 2
Yes I always played on custom cause I like the hard settings for gameplay and non ammo resources but have ammo availability on easy
I think they should focus on adding extra content to the No Return mode. This would keep TLOU2 relevant for longer, sounds like it has potential but lacking in content atm.
I was thinking a dmz/extraction style mode.
Go into big maps, scavenging for supplies, fighting enemies for high tier loot.
Going into infected nests for even higher tier goodies.
Bring stuff back to home base to improve it and ur character.
Still pve but definitely with co op.
They should add a mode where waves keep coming until u die and maybe an option for coop
Maybe a multiplayer mode where a couple factions fight over supplies.
More Clothes and Gun skins. Like Abbys 80ies outfit. That cool and makes me watch the cutscenes again. Wish they made more of them and for all guns.
@@mattygee79My brother in Christ, give up hope on the multiplayer for tlou. It’s not happening lol
i swr to god, most times i cant tell if there was a visual upgrade at all
The render distance is the only major visual improvement, on PS4 there’s a lot of noticeable pop-in, almost none on the remaster & when it is there it’s very far off
The difference is negligible in cutscenes, but it's more noticeable in the gameplay environments.
Pretty sure this remaster is to add more content not make the game look better
The visuals had already been updated for the ps5 back in 2021
@@anthonytitonealso load times. Fuck me, ps4 load times were painful
Are you actually playing it or just watching TH-cam vids?
00:50 False, it's the same 1440p in 60 fps mode like on PS4 version. Only in 30 fps mode it's now native 4K
Yup, same as the Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection
Yeah also the custom game mode settings were already in the game on the ps4
True, only some minor things got "better" like the draw distance
Fidelity mode at 30fps is good enough for me. It’s a huge jump in visual quality from the orginal.
I’ll just wait for the re-re-re-re-re-re-remaster…

@@timmygilbert4102 - reflect on that one…🤔
@@Corion2121 you didn't get the reference? Hint: devolver digital parody sketch
Perma-death is what you meant to say instead of Grounded. Grounded is just an additional difficulty while Perma-death lets you pick for the entire game, per chapter, etc.
No return is fire though, wish they made it 2 player co-op like Ghost of Tsushima did as a free expansion.
I gotta say despite how people feel about this game…you gotta admit this game is beautiful
the game looks and plays good, the story is, questionable to not start a debate, but it's a fun game
The story is balls but yeah it sure is pretty looking!
The story is not that bad I’ve played worse and let me tell you there is some bad narratives out there and this ain’t one of them
A beautiful mess.
This should be treated as a $10 DLC if you own the original digitally. If you never played the game, $50 is still a very reasonable price, considering this is technically and graphically one of the most impressive games of the PS4 Generation and it still holds up very well.
The story is where the TLOU community is very divided on...
That’s how they treat it already
It amazes me that in the age of the internet people are still so misinformed and have no idea what they are talking about. It literally is a 10$ charge if you own the game , and 50$ for anyone who doesn’t.
@@chrisbrown113096Totally correct. Useful information goes in one ear and out the other these days.
It was 10 dollars for me and my first time playing i figured they would do this
Wouldn't call it divided, Majority loves it, the loud few is just that, very loud.
I’ve been doing a 2nd playthrough with the director’s commentary and I’m really enjoying it. It’s a shame the sewer list level didn’t make it in as well

I bought the upgrade...it's been 4 years since I've played it so I'm curious how I'll feel about it this time. Last time I felt burnt out and exhausted.
As someone who finished the game (finally!) three months ago after playing it on/off over the course of two years..... I'm going to take a wild guess and say you probably won't feel that much different.
I played through tlou1 multiple times but was only able to play tlou2 once. And that was when it first came out. I shared the same feelings as you. I was super exhausted and burnt out from such a dark and dry story
@@branmattgar335brother I was so invested I beat it in a week and then watched my buddy through his whole play through 🤣 the combat in this game had me so hooked and the story was dark but not dry for me
I can’t tell a difference between the ps4 version. Looks the same to me in my honest opinion. Then the ps6 launching in 2028, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Naughty Dog went back and did another remaster of The Last of Us franchise
Maybe a Redux type deal, put both games in a box set and sell it at some kind of inflated prize.
They’re my fav dev studio and I’m glad to support them. If you don’t like it don’t give em your money. It’s real simple folks.
The diffrence is Haptikfeedback..three new Level they canceled in the first PT2 ..and some new Modi...yeah you cant see much difference compared to the WarCraftReforged or GTA San Andreas Remaster..but to be Fair the Update cost just 10 $ and the Disc Version just 50 for Peopel who dont have the PS4 Version..not 70 ..like new CoD with 1.5 UserScore.

It’s 50 for people who didn’t pay for the original game it’s so frustrating
Ngl, thought I’d be more pumped to try this again, did play a few hours, but also at 20-25 hours it’s hard to wanna do it all again after 3 playthroughs. Def will watch the cutscenes with the commentary though.
I miss this unlocking character through progression and not throwing money at the developers
They should've just called it the Definitive Edition. Otherwise, for $10, it makes it a no-brainer. The new No Return mode it great. If they added to it with more characters (Bill & Tess) and maybe more encounter areas (TLOU1 locations)
I no longer care about graphics.
Its modes too I don’t understand ya’ll view
I am revisiting the first one before I play this back to back.
A next gen patch, a "remaster", and the Pistol is still missing the grip texture after the upgrade on the bench.
Seems like a lot of games are trying out rogue-like modes. Last of Us, God of War, and Hitman are all games I can think of that have given us rogue-like DLC in recent memory. And they all are really good.
It’s cuz they’re fun.
We need more high budget rouge likes like Returnal, so im all for it
They are fun "extras". They could not work as a full game. They only really work because you want to experience the gameplay of that game in a slightly different context.
This comment is mainly for any devs reading who think "rogue-likes" are the next big thing... They aren't.
God of war’s was free tho lol
@@EH_1995 to be honest I would rather give them money so that they can feel supported and appreciated. But nonetheless it’s refreshing seeing studios giving free dlc.
There’s a looooot of people that want to hate this game but in all honesty… I have had it for about a day and No Return has been the most gaming fun I have had in months. Love this mode, can’t speak on anything else but for $10 upgrade it’s a hell of a fun time in my humble opinion

My dream has always been playing as Tommy. It may not be his own campaign, but this is satisfying.
@@maineman5757 Bro his sniper rifle is sick!!! Definitely one of my top 3 characters to play as only behind the man himself Joel
People that hate it typically hate it for the story. No Return has no story, and is all gameplay so I've been enjoying it. It's fine for ten bucks.

I think that developers should do more of these types of upgrades to their games. Give us a chance to see how our games are made, have access to some not complete cut content and a bit more interaction like the podcasts and commentary. It gives the plays the chance to see I side the mind of their favourite devs.

No Return is perfect for me, because I love the actual gameplay but the story is so emotionally taxing that I have trouble getting through repeat runs. Now I can get my fix on gameplay with this, and even play as extra characters?! Sick. Also, did NOT expect Yara to be playable. I think it’s hilarious that Manny and Mel are available too, but Owen was left out lol
I think Owen was left out because he’s never in a combat sequence maybe?
@@Will-ob8xpI think that's true that he isn't, but Yara really isn't either to my memory. IIRC, her introduction is when her arm gets wrecked, and then she gets carried, gets it amputated, and then sneaks around a little bit with Abby around the Seraphite colony, but I don't remember her being able to fight in that. I could be wrong, it's been a few years since the last time I played that part. I wonder if she has use of both arms in No Return.

No Return - Why is not a Multiplayer mode.... Split Screen Or 4 Player Survivor Game - Sharing Resources with your team .... They have everything there.... Just one minor adjustment. Playing with 3 other friends in a Survivor, would have been so cool. I am lost for words that this isn't the case. As a solo mode its... fun.... but I would have spent hours playing this with my family.
Tell me you dont know anything about video game development without telling me you dont know anything about video game development:
Idk how hard it would be to make it a splitscreen with at least one more person, but it would undoubtedly be extremely fun! Especially on higher difficulties as you share that tension with someone
@@allandm I agree, spilt screen would be very difficult - Especially how the AI is meant to react, but they had been working on Factions for ages... are you telling me they couldn't use anything they had been working on. A mini 4 player co-op would have been amazing... They only way these days for me to play games with the family is that one household has 4 PS4's. There are not enough really good AAA couch co-op games out there. Only .. It Takes Two, and A Way Out. And they are done by the same studio.
@@Pringle72Racing i didn't think it would be super difficult to make it splitscreen. I'm thinking about the Resident Evil 5 mercenaries mode. The enemies and ammo and stuff are pretty much the same if you fight alone or with someone
I really like the documentaries and commentary tracks on both games. The insights from developers, directors, and actors are invaluable to seeing the final product as a work of art.
No Return is fun since I love the combat. I will give the story another try soon. Maybe I'll feel differently about it now that a few years have passed.
The story is still trash, nothings changed
Just played a second playthrough on Survivor. What a joy to play. The pinnacle of an engaging story driven game

The attempt to implement mundane tasks with the combat mechanics is something I would’ve loved to see.
One of my favorite parts of Uncharted 4 was when Nate used some kind of play gun to shoot targets in the attic. It showed his carefree personality but it also gave us an insight into how much he missed the adrenaline and thrill of adventure at that point in his life.
Naughty Dog really do try to push the industry forward with unique concepts and mechanics.

I have not finshed the last of us part II yet , kinda want to go back now this crazy
Just started playing this game today since I got the ten dollar upgrade from my PlayStation 4 version. The upgrades are pretty good. Lol
I was able to go thru Ellie to Joel all in one play through, roughly 2-3 hours, and I finally beat the boss with Joel. I got to the boss one time before I killed, but ran out of ammo and got killed by the shambler, I thought once I killed the boss it would be ggs but no you gotta kill the shambler too lol
if they ever bring it to PC im gonna play the shit out of the roguelike mode
there might or might not be any significant improvements to the graphics but it's just funny how some people claim there's no difference at all when all they ever saw was a comparison video watched from a 6" phone
I got a little disapointed when I found out the lost levels wouldn't be added between the story beats. Should've done my research and see that they were just incomplete sequences added on a separate dev-talk section.
Question: are the skins playable in story mode? Or are they No-Return mode only?
My understanding is, just like the Pt 1 remake, you can use skins in the story after you’ve completed the game once.
Director’s cut sounds so much cooler. Wish they did this for the last of us part 1 (2022)
I would have loved to be able to customize my own character in "No Return" kinda like the multiplayer back in the first game, still really fun though!
Wish they added a co op suvrival mode with either zombies or humans to fight in waves until u died

You get fidelity with 40-60 fps.
4k vrr, better draw distances, more detailed clothing, weapons, and character models.
Uhm from 1440p locked to 4k, yeah it DID need an upgrade
I'd love to check out the new game mode, but alas I'm still rockin the ps4 pro.
Does it work on ultrawide?
Never had an interest in TLOUP2 but it's looking kinda appealing rn ngl
never understood the hate this game got. It was a blast in 2020, and i'll happily pay $10 for some more content. was the story perfect? no, but the gameplay made up for it.
the leak broke the community
The story was shit
Story was shit and the way ND treated their fanbase was shit. Of course people hated it
The story is basic, a beloved character was handled poorly, and it was treated like a masterpiece by white knight gamers and out of touch critics. It's an 7.5-8/10 being treated like an 11/10.
@@thetruestar6348 the moment when you understand that the World of "the last of us" has no hero and that humanity is gone
I wish you could play this version on the PS4.
Couldn’t even put it on pc after so long
I think it would have been better if they took another year or so and changed/alterered elements to the story like including those lost levels and call it "directors cut'
That would take much longer than a year. But it would be pretty cool tho.
9:28 the third person getting shot and hitting his head on the table edge while falling looks scarily realistic.
Always something that freaked me out from TLOU part 2 is how realistic any death seems
If needed, there's a reduced gore toggle now (which also reduces nudity)
That's because Druckman is an actual sociopath who keeps pushing this awful miserable story where everyone is just a piece of shit beyond all logic or coherence. "I wanted to make a sex scene with no love or passion in it!" "Oh we made the enemies cry out their virtual dog's name when you murder them, which btw we don't let you avoid doing."
@@Hugsloththat’s a very surface level argument, but hey, go off king 👑
@@Hugsloth where did Neil Druckman touch you?
@@farhan007 You should ask Amy Hennig, who thanked everyone at Naughty Dog by name in her Lifetime Achievement acceptance speech, specifically except for Neil
You know I believe that Josh Duhamel he has 1 Hebrew National Hot Dog ONLY during poolside parties on the 4th of July but this is too soon to talk about this holiday! 😊
The Texture definitely look better but they didnt really touch the lighting which would have made an even bigger difference, Last of us Part 1's lighting is better and for some reason they didnt improve on part 2
Probably because part 1 was a full remake that they charged full price for...remaking the lighting would have taken way more time and money to do, but I agree that it would have been nice...
Can you skip cutscenes on your first playthrough?
The option is there.
The Grounded Documentary for TLoU Pt 1 is incredible and looks like Part 2 will be as good if not better. They are some of the best documentaries on game development out there. The Ground Doc for Part 2 will be released TH-cam (Part 1 is on TH-cam already) it comes with the game as well.
Edit: The Documentaries are made by Area 5. For anybody that doesn't know they were made by many of the old 1up (old gaming news site) Video/Editing Crew. Same people that worked at 1up when Luke Smith (Creative Director at Bungie) worked there as an editor and Bryan Intihar (Creative Director at Insomniac) worked there as an editor at EGM. The 1up pedigree was incredible back then.
They do fantastic work in general.
Watched it last night.
I never played the original PS3 version and it looked almost cel shaded at points!
Wanted more Gustavo 🤘
@@travisspazz1624 The old TLoU looks quite cartoony these days considering how seriouis of a ton it was going for. So many of the colors were overly bright.
Is the grounded pt 2 out already??
@@komred64 Not on TH-cam yet. I believe it is only with the game right now.
My favorite game of all time. It’s so good. Can’t wait for the PC edition.
