It would be cool if we got a book about Effie Trinket and seen more of the world of Panem from her perspectives before she met Katniss & Peeta. I think a good title for it would be "The Hunger Games: Capital Couture."
One of my biggest pet peeves with the first movie and them writing out Madge. Because district 12 is poor nobody would just let you have anything. Katniss isn’t the type of person to be eyeballing shiny unnecessary things in The Seam. And her friendship with Madge is how Katniss initially learns about the other districts uprisings. It all just makes more sense and in the books gives her pin a lot more meaning.
i don’t get why everyone says this! i really did not find it to be that important idk why everyone acts like she couldn’t have found out about the uprisings elsewhere! so strange
@@starlavasil9330It was still important, and tbh would've humanised and Katniss more. She's such a bitch in the movies but in the books she's actually got a unique charm. We're shown her vulnerable aspects through the complexities of each of her friendships, another long term friend of that level of closeness would have added much needed depth to her character throughout her growth. Even at the end of the last movie I wasn't convinced that girl cared about anyone but Prim. Every time she showed care it felt like it was in self interest.
Well also, the media of the movie is just a poor choice to show the story of the hunger games which mostly occurs inside Katniss' head. In the movies you only get the parts she shows the outside world to protect herself and Prim she's more likeable in the book bc we are in her head listening to herthoughts in real time instead of just watching her from a 3rd person perspective@@imbluedubbadee
the fact that Katniss and Madge friendship goes ways beyond them and their mothers were actually friends way before they were born and they watch as Madge’s aunt (the original owner of the pin) try to survive in the hunger games is so heartbreaking
I get why Madge was cut from the movies. In the books, she has hardly any scenes! Plus, everything interesting about Madge is learned through Katniss's inner monologue, which would have been difficult to adapt onto the screen!
One cool detail from the books is that Cinna dressed Katniss in lots of pastels, frills, lace and bows during her victory tour, as a way to play up her innocence
I actually grew up less than 15 minutes away from the place where they filmed district 12. Rode by it every time I went to school as a kid because it was on our bus route. I also had several middle school friends who were extras in the reaping scene! It's a little time capsule for when it anytime I watch any hunger games again. That town with all the matching houses was a hosiery Mill Town. I was dying when you said "North Carolina dystopia".
as someone who works with dogs, the thing that really shows how well off the society is in the capital compared to the lower districts, was the dogs. the fact that they are able to have people who groom dogs when some districts would use dogs as food to survive. i love creative grooming, but i understand how wild it would look to some people
In real life, I've heard of immigrants who were shocked at the abundance of food in the supermarkets of their newly adopted developed county but what really hit home for them were the aisle's dedicated to just pet food.

District 2 were in bronze, They wouldnt waste gold on tributes like that. What Effie did was a unique act of affection towards her tributes. Was a sign that there was more to her. That she was starting to understand things more
The movie didn't mention this, but the dress Katniss wore right after her first victory was intended to make her look innocent. Though it also had modifications to make her breasts bigger, because Capital doctors wanted to do surgery on her to make her look more attractive, and Haymitch and likely Cinna had to adamantly fight against that. Since she was barely conscious and a minor, and probably would've been trafficked if not for Peeta, that detail turned my stomach.
I still don't get why Snow didn't force her to be trafficked anyway. Snow could have used pictures and video of her with other people as "proof" that Katniss was cheating on Peeta and destroy her popularity and credibility as the Mockingjay.
21:58 District Six has so many options for costumes! Dresses in a pattern of traffic signs. Pants made of tire rubber. Sexy train conductor or pilot uniforms. Cover an outfit in stop lights! They don't have to be overlooked. So sad.
I had to write a paper on the 1930s for my fashion class. This movies costume reminded me of the 1930s how the poor had wear toned downed colors and fabrics like cotton. While the rich and upper class worn the more elegant looks of the 1930s Hollywood era.
An interesting thought I had on the style of both Plutarch and Cinna-when the style of everyone in the capital is incredibly vibrant and over the top, displaying a more muted and toned down look not only makes you stand out in contrast to the norm, but it appears to be an act of defiance and rebellion as it is going against everything the capital represents visually.
The pin was in the seam because Katniss' mother was not FROM the seam. her family were "wealthy" (or wealthier for 12) merchant class people. A gold pin would be cherished, but not completely uncommon. This is also why her mother is practically useless from a survival standpoint, she doesn't know how to cope with life in the seam because she never lived there until her marriage.
When I see the Capitol, it reminds me of extreme french haute couture... Especially since, at least how I remember it beeing described in the book, the Capitol speaks english with a fake - not so fake - french accent. Litterally how back in the day Nobles would speak French just because it was the "sophisticated" it languages.
Hm that’s interesting. I always assumed the capital accent was a British accent since the landmass is a future North America and the English had a foothold much longer than the French minus the territory that became the Louisiana Purchase. Though I guess either would be fine. I also thought it would be funny if when they met in the crossover series I’m writing the Capital survivors like Effie would take a liking to some of the gladers with a British accent such as Newt or Gally as the accent could be familiar or the same as the capital one.
Bryce, I live for your hunger games videos. It’s clear how much work goes into them and I always finish them with the desire to binge the series again 😂❤

6:43 If no one in the Capital has jobs, who’s there for whenever a new baby is born in said Capital? No doctors, nurses or midwives? Or if they get injured or ill for whatever reason? And we KNOW there’s people working jobs as game makers for the Hunger Games and staff that wait on President Snow hand & foot - is the explanation they’re all from OUTSIDE the Capital?
Depends govt officials, teachers/professors, and military are often capital as those are considered prestigious. Avoxes are used as forced labor for sanitation/sewage, low level assistants, servants, etc. I guess it just depends. As for birth, the female professor in the prequel who mentors Snow used to work as a doctor and delivered babies per the book. Again that would be a position of esteem so Capital citizens would seek it out.
I am obsessed with the hunger games capitol as a society. How did they punish crime? What was their education and school systems like? Did they have actual jobs? What did their currency look like? What did everyday life look like?

Now I need to figure out what my victor of HG 68 William Kleaver of D10 will wear as his signature outfit in The Lost Victor story that I am writing. Any thoughts for D10 Victor Costume/Design?
Tigress plastic surgery was not of her own decision. President Snow did it to her as a punishment and show of power to those close to him if people stepped out of line.
From what I got from the books is that the capital is sooo out of touch with the rest of the districts. And it was somewhat implied the capital usually kills the victors family inoder to keep them in line, they couldn't with Katniss since it was very publicized that the reason she volunteered was for her sister .
The small repetitive patterns on District 12 women dresses during the Reaping scene reminds me of clothes from great depression era. Little problem about the gold brooch that 'just happened to ne hanging around the hob' is that in the book it DIDN'T HAPPEN THAT WAY! The mockingjay is given to Katniss by a 'town' character that id left out of the film!
im going to reread the books because i SWEAR they confirmed that Snow had Tigris's appearance altered, but it's possible that was just my conclusion when i read it. it's completely irrelevant to your points though, i just need to just need to know !!!
@@friedadieda it isnt confirmed either way in the books, its just Katniss speculating if she did that to herself to match her name or changed her name to match her disfigurement. When Katniss mentions Snow, Tigris stays silent and without emotion until she says "I'm going to kill him," which Tigris smiles at. Katniss wonders if she wants revenge on him for firing her as a stylist for the games. So, no explicit confirmation either way! At least in the books, the movies may have changed that though, as movie adaptations often do. :)
Tigris didn’t elect to look like a tiger. She even out right states Snow made her do it. That’s what I gathered from it? Not that she was ‘setting trends’.

I can't say that the costume work is truly impressive. It lacks subtlety in my opinion.
I will die on the hill that you should analyse all the creatures from Gravity Falls
FYI, "halo" is the actual real-life medical term for that head brace the one Porter Millicent Trip is wearing, they didn't make that up.
Bryce, your HG vids rock! As do your others :) but these are my favorites ❤
HOLY COW I AM SO LATE, also i love brilliant totally recommend. And i love your videos hii!! :D
love that high as a kite-bottom is back
the dude at 8:24 has popped up in my head randomly since the movie's release
My thing is, they put all this effort into background details for the first movie but couldn’t find a yellow cat to play Buttercup 😭
Missed opportunity to talk about the historical representations of the outfits for the tributes from Ballad (10th).
RETURN OF THE KING
You’re giving Joe Goldberg vibes but in a good way 😂❤
Omg!! This man is beyond stunning!!! I want to put my face next to the arch of his foot!!!!
Yo man I love the hunger game videos you've been releasing! Been watching on repeat while mindlessly working 😂. You think you could do a breakdown and thoughts on the new Squid Game Trailers for season 2? I loved your old squid game videos and I would like to hear your thoughts and theories on those teaser trailers.
Keep up the good work man🤘
I was just watching your Hunger Games playlist
Little problem about the gold brooch that 'just happened to ne hanging around the hob' is that in the book it DIDN'T HAPPEN THAT WAY! The mockingjay is given to Katniss by a 'town' character that id left out of the film!
“District 9 is prawns…”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
District 9 is ... prawns 😂 good one actually love that film too
Have all my Christmases come at once? An unexpected glorious find ✨️ on my youtube suggestions! Thankyou! The odds must be in my favor!
I love seneca’s outfit
im going to reread the books because i SWEAR they confirmed that Snow had Tigris's appearance altered, but it's possible that was just my conclusion when i read it. it's completely irrelevant to your points though, i just need to just need to know !!!
pleeeeease give an update when you find out, bc now i need to know too lol
@@friedadieda it isnt confirmed either way in the books, its just Katniss speculating if she did that to herself to match her name or changed her name to match her disfigurement. When Katniss mentions Snow, Tigris stays silent and without emotion until she says "I'm going to kill him," which Tigris smiles at. Katniss wonders if she wants revenge on him for firing her as a stylist for the games. So, no explicit confirmation either way! At least in the books, the movies may have changed that though, as movie adaptations often do. :)
Wasnt it snow who ordered the modifications for tigress because she wasnt "pretty" enough for him aka didnt like her ways anymore
I cackled at District 9 😂😂
18:39 wait ok so do you count the 76th games or not? in ur new video you said you didnt count it
We can finally give Portia some much needed attention…….
Anyway, Cinna 😂😂😂😂😂
i've been waiting for the next hunger games video like a starving dog
"North Carolina dystopia" is just western nc after helene :(
You are so SO great for bringing us these videos!! 🥺😍😍😍🤩🥰🥰
Lived in NC my whole life the heat and humidity isn't that bad..
YEAHHHHH A NEW VID
😌 I present u my heart ❤️🎀
I notice many of Effie’s outfits include wrist cuffs of some sort
Tigris didn’t elect to look like a tiger. She even out right states Snow made her do it. That’s what I gathered from it? Not that she was ‘setting trends’.
I think Cato and Clove are dressed in Bronze like a nod to the Bronze Age or weaponry.
NO NO NO YOU GOT THE PARADE WRONG! The outfit you say that’s 3 is actually 5! That’s the Power district! It’s all glittery silver to represent Hydroelectricity! Three had a darker metal looking silver thing with all these geometric shapes on their headpieces! The outfit you claim is 5 is actually 7! That’s the Lumber district! They went with paper rather than trees. All 24 of the Hunger Games tribute costumes are here: th-cam.com/video/q6h0DxIZsuw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gihSL1Bv5cak1wPM
Great video! I still don t get why people in d12 wear their nicest clothes at reaping ceremony. Man, I would be too scared and depressed to dress up for that horrible ocasion😮
Remember that Lucy Gray's dress was her mother's.
I lived near where they filmed The Seam, never went to go look at it tho bc I heard its haunted
Fun fact the neck brace is actually called a halo! Like itsa surgical halo! Ive had one!
