it's interesting how district three manages technology production and is still very poor, reflects how in our world, the countries used for harvesting materials for tech are poor as well
In terms of Three’s role in the Games, I think it’s also worth noting that the Capitol does not respond well to tributes outsmarting the arena. The Gamemakers like to be able to predict everything that happens in the Games, so District Three tributes who are taught to think their way around problems and to come up with innovative solutions might not be their favorite. I think it’s very possible that victors from Three did things in the arena that resulted in severe punishments at home (like what happened to Haymitch), or that tributes from Three are disproportionately killed by the Gamemakers in retribution for attempts to manipulate the arena. Could be an explanation for why they’re so prone to rebellion.
I think the most fascinating this about this is that capital most likely relied on the idea of the other districts having a poor reputation to district 3 given their close proximity to the capital, rendering their intellectual capacity useless as many are too weak. I also they this is why district 3 was extremely receptive to Aiding in the rebellion when given the chance
I like to think that the making of entertainment products by Wiress and Beetee and framing them as such was also a good ruse for them as since victors are expected to have a '"hobby" after they win that can be paraded on tv. So they can get capitol citizens excited for their products and get support for their research. Like they aren't making money off of it but if some rich guy in the capitol who has some sway in District 3 wants Beetee's micro-ipod i can see them giving him access to supplies and information to build and improve it without thinking it through.
another masterpiece queen! i've never thought much about district 3 but they were so instrumental to both the continuation of life in the capitol AND the rebellion. it's a fascinating juxtaposition.
One way to portray it would be as Amish country with soviet tyrany. I also wonder who would produce the plants used to create the yarn for district 8. In the book we have description that district 8 lacks any green areas (based on what Katnis has seen during victor tour). But they would need wool, leather, linen, cotton, silk, kashmire, sizal, fur, etc. So some of those stuff needs to imported from district 11, 10, 9, and even maybe 7, 2, 4. For district 10 also not explored enough, cows are known to produce methan which is a fuel possibly used by district 5, and 6. Also there is unlikely that they do not have plantations in district 10. Cows, pigs, horses, goats, sheep, need to eat something more than grass and district 9 needs animals to have fertilzers otherwise the harvest would be poor. District 6 must of course cooperate with 3 and 5 and even 2 because cobalt needed for electronics needs to dig out somewhere. District 2 and 12 have the toughtest job because of the fuels. Coals need to be delivered almost everywhere, but district 12 does not have the men power to satisfy everyone needs even if working nonstop. So 2 comes handy with possible oil production which could also take place in 5 and 6. Thing is not everything was delivered to Capitol. Capitol could be greedy but not wasteful, and enought of resources was delivered to other district bypassing Capitol just enought to keep entire country functioning.
still, i bet it'd be easier than district 5 seeing as 9 is grain and we already have a model for it in 11's general agriculture. i mean, i don't even know what "energy" means, what the citizens would even have to do
@@sadnessofwildgoatsin the rebellion we do know that the rebels in district 5 , blew up a power plant , and in the movie Foxface and her district partner were dressed up as Solar panels . Sp we do know that Nuclear and solar energy are some of 5s exports . Foxface was also by far the most intelligent tribute in the 74th hunger games which could indicate that this district enjoys a significantly higher level of education compared to the other districts . Also by taking Tesserae into account, District 5 is the third richest district in Panem only poorer than 2 and 1 but richer than 4 ( a career and capitol favored district), this means that the citizens of this district enjoy a much better standard of living than the other districts despite producing energy for the entire country and thus the disastrous outcomes of a possible rebellion , which probably indicates that its not a particularly rebellious district , this is also aided by the fact that it directly boarders the capitol from the south

District 3 has, in my opinion, the worst slot in the games. Smack dab in the middle of the career districts, they probably get glossed over every year unless they have a particularly promising tribute.
Likely because 1 and 2 both share a border with the capital and 4 is one of the wealthier districts ( in comparison to others) also 4 specialises in fishing so I’m assuming that could play into it since the children were likely be taught those skills growing up?

I never thought about how Wiress and Beetee’s own inventions could allieviate and aid in the districts and the rebellion respectively. I also think the points you brought up adds to why District 3 isn’t a career district because if you add combat skills/strength to tributes that can weaponize the Capitol’s technology, it threatens the Capitol. Also I would love to see you do a deep dive on Plutarch Heavensbee and why he would turn on the Capitol where he was born and raised and comes from a very prominent family hence the Heavensbee Hall in TBOSAS and Trajanus Heavensbee being named the founder of Panem in the movie adaption.
I find it crazy that the only two victors of district 3 won almost back to back games, 39 and 41. Beetee never having a mentor was able to help Wiress win her game two years later, but since then, never again.
did anyone else notice that in the 10th hunger games, teslee and circ were sent into the arena in what appears to be matching uniforms from their district, just like how facet and velvereen did.
I cant wait for ur deep dive in 4 , its one of the most intresting districts , yet we know so little and that makes it so compelling, because its a wealthy career district (in the books) yet its one of the first to rebel
when i saw you were starting this series i got so excited for district 9, even now i wanna share a few things. i think it’s so odd the district is barley spoken of as i would think it’s similar to district 11 since they both produce such high demand products! but it’s just empty from the series which i feel has to be on purpose because suzanne collin’s is very careful and detailed with this series and this never being expanded on especially when she made a prequel is crazy to think about! i’ve looked on wikis there’s no official victors with names just two vague character descriptions, which i assume were from the film franchise as they needed place holders! we barley even get a look i to the people, population, or workforce and i’m so interested to see what you can find! in all you analysis either youtube or tiktok you explain things so good and your comparisons always hit! sorry for the rambling but i’m so curious for that video even though we have a long way to go 😅

I think Snow just hates District 12 in particular. Every reason for him is enough to punish them severely. No reason to do that to D3 victors, since often they are resourceful and beneficial for Capitol's sake, unlike backwater and rebellious mining district.

I will just always love that before the Quell arena, Katniss went for the smartest people like Beetee and Wiress and not the strong ones like Cashmere or Brutus.

Ohhh after the deep dives can you delve into how the rebwllions from each district might have started? Three is also a weird district because they are career skips since in the books 1 2 and 4 are the careers so it means 3 are always looked down upon since in panem physical attributes are more popular than mental prowess.
