    My cousin used BOSS 2 3/4” 3/5 shot on sandhill cranes this past season in his 28 gauge. It absolutely hammered them. We were both very impressed with the performance on these larger birds.

    It would seem the #4s with a lower percentage at 40 yards could reach out further providing it was a tighter pattern and more penetration at 40 yards? Thinking out loud here…..

      That is where the Boss warchiefs shine. They give you that pattern to let you punch out further with either the 4s or 3/5s.

    Thank you to all your Boss shot shells testings, I ordered and shot Boss shells for the first time this season. I ordered a case the #4 and #3/5. Not cheap! I could of gotten a decent shotgun for the cost seriously. Cali banned all lead ammo some years ago so I’m having to research nonlead ammo all over again.
    I am really impressed with Boss’s #4. The pattern and impact is much more devastating even compared to the lead I used before. I have only shot a few of the 3/5 and so far the #4s are still better for me. I am yet to try the #5 and warchief to see the differences.
    I wrote a positive 5 star rating on Boss’s website crediting you for all the tastings and selling me on giving them a try. Undoubtedly no false and regrets. Less recoil, hard impact, and excellent pattern. Looking forward to using more Boss shells. So far the best nonlead out there and I spend a lot of money trying many top steel shots including bismuth. Tungsten may be king but a normal working class like myself cannot afford tungsten if I’m going through hundreds of rounds per season.
    Thank you for all your testing, George!

    I wish Boss would come out out with a #2/#6 duplex load. To me, it seems like there is so little difference when you only skip one shot size in a duplex load, and you'd be better off having big shot for energy and a lot smaller shot for pattern density.

    Not sure why anyone would give you a hard time about the tripod. I do ALL of my pattern testing out of a Lead Sled. Pattern testing is nothing about "hunting situations". It is just like trying to shoot a group with a rifle. You don't shoot a group or sight your rifle in free hand, well at least I hope not. You want to eliminate as many variables as possible. Same here. You are trying to find out what the: gun, choke and ammo combination is doing. Once you find the best combo then you go out and practice under hunting situations. Great video. Thanks for the great data.

      @@TheNewHuntersGuide So my Carlson's Bismuth Bone Buster ER choke came in yesterday. Yes I bought it because of your videos. I had already purchased a case of Boss 2 3/4" #5 and a case of 3" #4. So I patterned them through the new choke yesterday. Very similar results as to what I got with my Kicks High Flyer X full with the #5's. But the #4's shot a lot better with the new Carlsons choke. When I pattern I use the duck targets that "splatter" where the pellets hit. I think they are like 12" x 18". I also draw a 30" circle. I then do a pellet count in the square duck target, not just the picture of the duck, and the 30" circle. I then take pictures and upload them to my computer so I can really study them. I don't know why, it is just what I do. I had something interesting happen yesterday. The first shot gave really poor performance. I knew something was off. So I ranged the target again and realized I did not set the shooting table up on my mark at 40 yards but had placed it well behind that at 46 yards. Now you would not think 5 or 6 yards would make that much of a difference. But OOHH was I wrong. I said all this to mention you may want to do a video, or series, on how much patterns go away once you pass that 40 yards. May not impact some hunters that hunt mostly in timber. But for the guy that is hunting open water, judging the difference in a 40 yard vs 46 yard shot is tough. Just a thought. I love what you are doing.

      @@TheNewHuntersGuide you do a great job and not trying to tell you what to do. But I think 10 yard increments would be to much. My numbers, from just going back 6 yard, changed significantly. In the square "Splatter" target pellet count went from 59 at 40 yards to 33 at 46. Count in the 30" circle went from 128 at 40 yards down to 90 at 46 yards. I just think a lot of guys miss birds that may be just 6 or 8 yards further out than they think and have no idea why.

      @@jesseregister2435 I agree, but best to start with big numbers. 10 yard increments is a starting place to get benchmarks. • @TheNewHuntersGuide
      @TheNewHuntersGuide  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd like to! But I don't have a 20 gauge actually. What I know about the 7s, after talking with folks who shoot them is that they are good out to about 25-30 yards max. They are mostly for quail, doves, maybe teal. But they are not idea for ducks unless you can hit them real close, and you are going to put a lot of pellets into the meat if they are that close. I would opt for #5s for most duck hunting.

    Great video! I just ordered a box of Boss 2 3/4 #3/5. 3 inch 1 3/8 oz #4 is my usual go to for late season Ducks but I wanted to try a box of the 3/5s out. I think the 3s might hit em even harder and the 5s will keep the the pattern good. I only wish Boss made the 3/5 in a 1 3/8 oz shell. If so that is remarkable. #4 lead at 1400 fps at 40 yards only produces 2.48" of penetration. I am curious to how the bismuth (seeing it is 15% lighter) penetrates so well/deep compared to lead of the same shot size. I am not challenging your findings - but more amazed at its performance. To clarify I am a big fan of bismuth and have been shooting it for over 2 seasons religiously. Keep up the great videos - you eliminate a lot of the guessing!

      Hi Matthew, The numbers are exactly what happened. However, you cannot compare gel depth across days and environments. What I have learned is that Gel is only scientifically effective at comparing two items relatively, on the same day at the same time, and in the same gel. Temp, gel type, number of remelts, range, gel calibration and age, all play into the exact results. The only really valid info you can gain is a side-by-side test in the same gel. But yea, the Bismuth performed really well. Lead does better, I've tested them head-to-head some, assuming equal velocity.
