Jon, your morals and your standards are your North Star. Thank you for your honesty, authenticity, and your standards in this process. We all benefit from your conservative and cautious approach in post-production. Thank you for sharing it all!
I really liked your tech talk on how you create your wonderful videos. You make it look much easier than it obviously is. Also, watching Erin chop wood is like Simone Biles doing backflips. Pure gold.
I feel like this channel has the best camera-work of all the camping channels I've watched on YT, as they're never scared to hold an interesting motive a few extra seconds, while other editors are terrified to show the same thing for more than 1½ seconds at a time. I really like it 🙂
As a sound designer and recordist for 10 years i’ve always liked your attention to detail with sound design, transitions and fading etc. Thank you for the hard work creating all these videos!
Hey Jon "n" Erin. Just wanted to say, I am loving this series! As ever great work with high quality output from you. On the gas versus wood debate, you also need to consider what happens to the wood if you DON'T burn it. If you don't burn the wood, fungi will break down the wood and release the carbon locked in it back into the atmosphere anyway. Static forests which are not growing in physical size are carbon neutral, they store a lot of carbon, but unless they are getting physically bigger, they are not storing increasing amounts of carbon. The actions of the fungi release the carbon in the dead matter back into the atmosphere anyway. The reason we have carbon based fuels like gas, coal and oil is because these were formed before fungi had evolved to feed on plant matter. So wood is a totally acceptable fuel, in the context and location of where you're using it. That said, gas is much quicker and easier, so personally I use a mixture based on time pressure and hunger!
Well done. The behind-the-scenes sections are really.interesting. And I love hearing about your and Erin's stories and what you are thinking about. Thank you for the engagement and wedding videos. That is so generous of you both. People are always the most interesting parts of YT videos. When you let us into the secret proposal plan or your long term aspirations to catch salmon, us viewers are cheering you on. So emotional. I like your sharing insights on sustainability, park management, wildlife management, etc. I don't need camping tutorials, but I enjoy seeing a cleverly tightened tarp. I like the Amok features. Ideas on making cooking easier, tastier, cheaper, faster, safer are always welcome.
Hi Jon... My brother and I were both camping north of Georgian Bay on the French and Wanapitae river junction., beautiful place, while fishing we got talking about your Channel, I ended up picking up all of my lures and slowly and methodically snapping off the barbs on all of my lure hooks. Your channel is pointed this out for me. Thanks, makes me feel better for the fish and feel better in case I snag myself
Yes having an animal outdo me makes me feel like the odds are a little more even for the prey. I do feel a little upset when I lose a fish, but I also feel happy that the fish was able to outdo me and live another day
I know I've watched the majority of this footage. But man, another amazing video. I just love your editing, hearing your thoughts, the nature you share with us. It calms me. Thank you
Fantastic summary of your YT career, Jon. I truly admire your dedication and passion for filmmaking. This is by far the best video you've ever made. Love the part about the camera equipment, the editing prosess, and all of the other phases you go through as a content creator. Keep it up, and keep evolving :) Cheers from Norway
I watched part 1 and 2 back to back all day in the shop today. You put some work into these. I honestly almost enjoyed the back story and history parts about getting started and your job more than the tripping portions. Not that the trips aren't awesome, it was just super cool to see the process you went through to get where you are. Anyway, congrats.
Thanks for putting this series together. I find it really interesting behind the scenes. I figured it was a ton of work and I was correct! You are definitely no "hack" and are getting better with every video. Great job.
I've been a subscriber for quite a long time. This fresh perspective of what we have seen before, what is new, and how it all works is a breath of fresh air. We see your abilities evolve before our eyes and grow to appreciate the work required to make it look like it is no work at all. With reference to Erich, yes we will close our eyes and find ourselves in a new place. And it is wonderful, not because it is unexpected, but because we know we cannot do everything in one life and it is great to find companions who stretch our limits and share our sense of adventure and beauty. I only wish we were in a position to do the same for you and Erin. Please accept this "like" as one of the hundreds before and know that each one is sincerely sent.
My wife and I are super excited to watch this, thanks for all your hard work and dedication man. I cant imagine doing all of this myself, keep up the great content!
If I can't be camping,.fishing, or birding, I can at least enjoy it through your own experiences until I get back out there myself! Also, congrats to the two of you!! ❤❤
Basically these two videos have spurred my want to be in nature, I work a shift job so I have 3 days off at a time, finna start going to different state parks and doing camping trips, work my way up to more remote type camping. I don’t think we were ever really supposed to live how we do, while I am watching this on my phone and thankful I am able to, that pull has always been there, life just becomes packed with all the “have to do’s” that the time to do things we actually want seem to be impossible to do, and that mindset just robs you of living. It’s a mindset that drains you, escaping technology, pavement, ac and all those other little comforts we have grown so fond of…well it just doesn’t scratch that itch to be the very definition of free, even if only for a short while.
As for the music, I love how you use it, and your choice. You are right, it could ruin the mood, which, why I watch your show is to relax and go to a different place in nature.... so well done, in my opinion
Love the BTS clips. My daughter is in film and her rule is 7:1 raw footage to final so 10:1 is in the range for sure. Keep up the good work and can’t wait for the rest of the series.
Cannot wait to watch the whole thing! My husband and I went on what for us is a challenging kayak trip today on the southern shore of Superior, and when it got tough I truly thought of you and Erin, “up there” on the other side, and all the amazing stuff you do! That thought-ok, and a Snickers bar-helped me keep going! Thanks for your wonderful and inspiring work.
Thank you for the incredible effort you put in. Especially loved the triple header or quadruple TROUT catching with you and Joe Robinet. Something I will go back and view again. If I can’t visit Ontario, I can live it through you. We enjoy your respect for nature. Thank you for sharing with us.
Loved the Insights about Camera Gear and Filming, as a Camera Nerd this was pure gold, and your setup is perfectly right for your purpose. Tried the Vivid Color Profile on my recent trips to Corsica and Norway and the Footage looks amazing. The 20-60 is amazing for a Kitlens.
Thank you! It really is...although I wish they offered an f2.8 version and maybe a bit better optics. But then of course if would be much heavier. So for my purposes it's pretty great
I just love your channel. Your films are stunningly beautiful. You are no way a "hack". Your cinematography, editing and music bring us all into your world. A world that many of us would never be able to experience. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Just finished this one! Wow man, amazing stuff. You are definitely far from a “hack” lol. Loved seeing the trips again like this. The information you provided in the intermissions was so invaluable and well said. If storytelling is high on your priorities list, than you’ve absolutely nailed it. Amazing what a one-man crew can actually do. Looking forward to part 3 as well as your 2024 trips! Ps: the engagement scene always gets me. Again, nice work. Cheers buddy 🍻
Starting my day with this video. I really appreciate all the work you do to bring your stories and journeys to TH-cam. Your respect for nature and the wilderness places you explore are great teaching opportunities for people who are and will be following your channel.
I’m an hour into this, really savoring it. I really like the intermission, very cool to see behind the scenes. I appreciate all the work you put into this.
I can't even imagine how much time this took to edit. Looking forward to watching it. Thanks again for the great videos, you should get NFB funding for these!
Jon would you consider doing a packing list for a week trip. Food, essentials, comfort, cookware and clothing? Thanks for considering a one time pack list!

This series is really just fantastic, and so much fun to watch. Thanks for taking the time to so thoroughly comb through so many of the particulars involved in the process, and sharing knowledge.
This is an epic tale and truly enjoyable. When we learned about your 60-80 hour work weeks as a full time journeyman, it begs the question from each of us. What exactly IS work? I am total agreement that one can dedicate time to their passion as you have but you ARE quick to remind us that this did not in fact happen overnight. The fact that it did happen though is all the more impressive and inspiring. Many happy journeys to you as you continue to bring us worlds and visions we were unsure ever existed but celebrate with you when you are amongst their very existence.
Just want to say that this series has so far been amazing! Also as a side note your vlogging, editing, voice over, music selection, jump cuts, slow motion, time lapse, mico/wildlife filming, drone footage, commentary and educational content is by far the best of any channel I’ve seen. I absolutely love what you are doing and cannot tell you how refreshing and wonderful it is to watch your journey. I think you have all the right mindsets and direction to make a huge positive impact on the industry and world. Keep it up, and keep doing what you’re doing! You are an inspiration to so many and I always look forward to your next project/video. Sending love and appreciation from wyoming.
Jon, this is my favorite channel on TH-cam. Thank you for giving us a window into beauty and tranquility. I found your videos at a time when I need this slow pace and calmness. Thank you! Also, more Erin please! You two are too fun!
If you ever get a chance to head down Eastern North Carolina way I'll take you out to an island out here on the coast for some good exploring and fishing. It's a nice paddle, though you have to time it right with the tides and bring plenty of fresh water along. I enjoy your videos -- they are inspiring, relaxing and informative. I hope to be able to get back to paddle more up North in the U.S. again and hopefully, someday, explore Nipigon and the Northern Shore of Superior. Hopefully with my father as well. Thanks for all the information you've shared on creating your videos. It's great to learn from someone who has background, has learned through doing, and is still making works well. Cheers, safe travels, and thanks for making these. I play your videos sometimes while my students are working on their projects. The videos offer a much better view than the view from our classroom window. Plus, they may inspire them to get outside as well.
Really enjoying your channel and your videos. I'm envious of you taking the ultimate plunge - leaving your day job to pursue what makes you happy. I have a background in music and audio production and thought I'd pass along that there are several excellent automation and audio normalization plug-ins you can use to help automatically normalize audio levels right within Resolve. Of course you'd be able to fine tune as you'd like and boost/cut where needed. Your manual keyframing audio gain made be literally gasp out loud knowing the time that must have taken. Izotope RX, Hornet, and Bute in no particular recommendation order. Just a few you can look at if you'd like and there are plenty more.
This is simply the best TH-cam video I’ve ever seen. Diverse, educational, fresh, fascinating. I really appreciate the way you convey yourself and your experiences on here Jon, that I felt compelled to comment. Hey from Australia and thanks so much
It was another great video & I especially enjoyed that last part when you caught & ate that salmon ❤ absolutely my favorite protein to eat. Nothing better than fresh salmon 😋 it was interesting to hear about the editing & the nuts & bolts of putting out an entertaining video. Never hire an editor it just wouldn't be the same, & I personally love the music because of how it makes me feel...definitely keep the music! Looking forward to your fall episode 😊
I respect you for doing the filming. personally I just wanna get lost in the woods and disappear into nature when I go camping. Honestly, seeing it through a camera never hits the same as seeing it in person. getting to watch videos of others gets me excited for camping to so it is definitely fun to watch.
I am at the music selection. I will say, I like the use of the Native American wind instruments. The blend of the video and the music makes it enchanting.
If (when) I come back, I’m coming back as you! I love your adventures very much, so envious . . . I’ve always had the same two questions while watching your videos. They are, what kind of boots do you wear that allow you to submerge them in water, dry them out, and wear again? Also, how do you keep going and sleep in bug infested areas? Thanks for doing this.
Thank you! I like Vasque St Elias boots for durability and I just get them wet (they don't dry fast either). Keeping shoes dry on a canoe trip is usually more trouble than its worth, and I need something rugged. As long as I have light dry shoes for camp I'm happy. As for the bugs, it's all about covering my skin with clothing and a headnet if they're really bad. Better than staying inside for two months of spring/summer :)
I have to say Jon, this series is absolutely genius. Although I’ve already seen a majority of these trips I have been blown away by the innovation of the “behind the scenes”. Especially the segments shot during the down time on current trips. Hopefully I have enough time to rewatch some of these newly edited trips, but I’m trying to get out on the water myself. As always, keep kicking ass!
I found myself astonished when you described your difficulty in keeping a fish upon catching it. Astonished because how exactly similar your mindset is to mine in that scenario. Looking at a helpless and beautiful fish, thinking "I have other food, why should i take this life?" The world needs more people like you, my friend. Your respect for nature is a characteristic that every person should have.
I think the same way and for a long time I thought that Jon should just leave them alone if he doesn't want to eat one! But he just shows his dedication to conservation with the way he handles them or rather, tries not to stress them any more than he has to.
between you and Xander while you often put salmon spice in fresh caught fish, this is the first time I've seen either of you put salmon spice on a salmon!
“It has to revolve around passion, what I’m sharing here”. Beautiful way to describe the exact thing we feel watching your videos. Keep it up man world needs you!
Canada is so vast, one person could explore it their whole life and prob still have areas that they hadn’t seen. I love how it’s mostly wilderness still and not overpopulated like here in the states 😟 it’s sad, cites and suburbs everywhere. Our parks are the only wilderness left and so now tons of people are forced to flock to them so they are even crowded 😢
It is taking me so long to get through this because I’ve been so busy. I love all of the story telling in this one. Explaining the whole process of becoming a TH-camr has been really cool to watch.
Massive video, 4,5 hour... will take me 2-3 days to watch. But soo bedautiful scenerys, and I really like seeing footage from the moving canoe, see the landscape slowly pass by. And that little curious mink watching you, maybe hoping to get some food/ fish?
Jon I love your respect for nature, I wish other channels followed your lead. Watching to many that just don't care what they do to the trees, the area etc.
Jon, your morals and your standards are your North Star. Thank you for your honesty, authenticity, and your standards in this process. We all benefit from your conservative and cautious approach in post-production. Thank you for sharing it all!
Very much appreciated :)
I agree with you !
I really liked your tech talk on how you create your wonderful videos. You make it look much easier than it obviously is. Also, watching Erin chop wood is like Simone Biles doing backflips. Pure gold.
4.5 hours of material I've probably already watched. But ready to watch again. Best channel on TH-cam.
Absolutely agree 👍 my favorite channel without a doubt ❤
I feel like this channel has the best camera-work of all the camping channels I've watched on YT, as they're never scared to hold an interesting motive a few extra seconds, while other editors are terrified to show the same thing for more than 1½ seconds at a time.
I really like it 🙂
Thank you!
Me too…as thoughtful as Jon is, it reflects a lot of detail we’d otherwise not see.
Showing Xander as the sloppy lip smacking eater was just beautiful lol.
Classic
Xander and Jon are my favorite videos. Just love the content between those two. So hilarious and entertaining. 😅😅😅🥰🥰🥰
LOL, Xander suffing his gob while making Skeksis sounds...

There you are! Was starting to worry you and Erin finally just said f it and went on a permanent camping trip.
Hey Jon "n" Erin. Just wanted to say, I am loving this series! As ever great work with high quality output from you. Yes having an animal outdo me makes me feel like the odds are a little more even for the prey.
I do feel a little upset when I lose a fish, but I also feel happy that the fish was able to outdo me and live another day

I'm enjoying this series so much. I can't imagine the hours of editing you spend on each episode. Thanks.
The editing and production quality is insane. Very impressed as always.
Thank you for bringing respectful and intimate content of the great outdoors!
Man you are really good at this. Love that you took a risk and did what your heart desired.
Thanks a lot Mike :)
Love how you edit your trips & the storytelling ist top notch! Thanks

You're dropping some game on your film and edit process! Great info. Loved the LOTR monologue 😂

GO FOR IT! I am 75 and have not experienced what you have in the wild. DO IT! I think it is LOVELY and so are you and Erin
You put a lot of care and attention (and work!) into your work. It shows. Keep on paddlin'! :)
Many thanks Gord!

@LostLakes impressive list. I always think that portages must suck. Though walking some of the trip is most likely a boon. Except for clearing paths.
@@TheWinger371 yep gotta stretch the legs
In London (UK) and cannot wait to get home this evening to watch new Lost Lakes video! Living vicariously through this channel...
This series is really just fantastic, and so much fun to watch. Thanks for taking the time to so thoroughly comb through so many of the particulars involved in the process, and sharing knowledge.
Thank you so much!
You are doing what many of us like to do. Brave John.
Greetings from North Sweden
This is an epic tale and truly enjoyable. When we learned about your 60-80 hour work weeks as a full time journeyman, it begs the question from each of us. What exactly IS work?
I am total agreement that one can dedicate time to their passion as you have but you ARE quick to remind us that this did not in fact happen overnight. The fact that it did happen though is all the more impressive and inspiring.
Many happy journeys to you as you continue to bring us worlds and visions we were unsure ever existed but celebrate with you when you are amongst their very existence.
Truly appreciate this! I lucked into this somehow :)
Such a talented vlogger. I love watching these videos. Gorgeous land out there.
Hope you stay healthy and are able to make videos for years to come good sir.
Yes!! Been looking forward to this for weeks!! And i’m so glad its 4.5 hours, several evenings of content for me 😎
Now i can spend some quality time. Thank you for sharing your adventures
Excellent timing!! Just finished rewatching the last episode!
the proposal was so heartwarming followed with laughter of my precious lolol
Just found this channel, I appreciate nature so much, God Bless❤
Truly appreciate that Tyler! 👋💚
We love you Jon ! 🤗💚 Thank you for everything you do. You're bringing us true joy. Keep being you 🛶
💚
Letsss goooo! So pumped for another one of these
What a treat! World is so beautiful when looking through your eyes. Flow of fresh air
I dream of being as free as you with nature. I have so much to learn but your videos always inspire and educate. Thank you for such beautiful content.
As a new subscriber I appreciate these last two videos that explained how and why you do what you do! Great content and very inspiring!
Much appreciated!
Jon, this is my favorite channel on TH-cam. Thank you for giving us a window into beauty and tranquility. I found your videos at a time when I need this slow pace and calmness. Thank you!
Also, more Erin please! You two are too fun!
Truly appreciate that!!
Again, I have to say what a great cinematography!!
Truly appreciate that!
Hahah part of me knew there was an easier way and that someday I'd be horrified by my actions. Thanks for this!!
Those falls were awesome. Great video as always. Keep enjoying this life we have on earth.
This is simply the best TH-cam video I’ve ever seen. Diverse, educational, fresh, fascinating. I really appreciate the way you convey yourself and your experiences on here Jon, that I felt compelled to comment. Hey from Australia and thanks so much
Truly appreciate that! 👋
the quality and editing in your videos are top notch.
Many thanks Julie 😊
Although I've watched all of your videos, the part one was phenomenal. Excited to watch part 2!!!
Excellent. Yes Lost Lakes sounds like all kinds
of wonderful.
Thanks so much John!
I found myself astonished when you described your difficulty in keeping a fish upon catching it. Astonished because how exactly similar your mindset is to mine in that scenario. Looking at a helpless and beautiful fish, thinking "I have other food, why should i take this life?"
The world needs more people like you, my friend. Your respect for nature is a characteristic that every person should have.
I totally agree 👍 that is just one reason I love this channel ❤️
I think the same way and for a long time I thought that Jon should just leave them alone if he doesn't want to eat one! But he just shows his dedication to conservation with the way he handles them or rather, tries not to stress them any more than he has to.
between you and Xander while you often put salmon spice in fresh caught fish, this is the first time I've seen either of you put salmon spice on a salmon!
WOW! You are a talented young man. You brought tears to this old man’s eyes. (But don’t tell anyone).
Congrats on the 300K! Well deserved!
Thank you! :)
“It has to revolve around passion, what I’m sharing here”. Beautiful way to describe the exact thing we feel watching your videos. Keep it up man world needs you!
I love the fishing!
Love your videos. You do such a great job of bringing your viewers along on your trips. As a 70 year old I can appreciate the effort it takes. 👍🏼
OMG! That little Mink is so dang cute! I love how it kept popping up to say hi!
Something priceless about this. Jon I hope you feel like you're living your purpose on this planet, cos that's how it looks to me. Love.
Thank goodness! We just started to watch the ONLY video left in your library that we haven’t seen. Thank you for what you do.
I’m an hour into it,🎉👍👏🙌🏻❤️. Jon your videos are outstanding.
Love your adventures Jon!! Great video, congratulations to Erin & you 🎉
Keep it up buddy. Uk watcher wish I had those lakes . Been binge watching your trips. Love😮 The winter escapades 😮
Much appreciated Sean :)
Massive video, 4,5 hour... will take me 2-3 days to watch. But soo bedautiful scenerys, and I really like seeing footage from the moving canoe, see the landscape slowly pass by. And that little curious mink watching you, maybe hoping to get some food/ fish?
Appreciate your feedback Bo! You must be right
Jon I love your respect for nature, I wish other channels followed your lead. Watching to many that just don't care what they do to the trees, the area etc.
Ya the fish too...it's hard to watch and these days I usually have to skip over the fishing parts of trips
@@LostLakes same
Happy camping and fishing 👍
Always thrilled to watch another one of your adventures, Jon! Keep ‘em coming!🙏
