Jon, I believe that you have crossed the threshold from vlogger to filmmaker. Your last two videos are truly exemplary. When I think about your work the best word to describe it is balanced: balance in introspection and observation, balance in safety and risk, balance in wilderness advocation and 'preachiness'. And always, always your tone and storytelling hit the right balance between bravado and humility. In this last video you have accomplished what few vloggers have. Somehow you have immersed us into an experience that is shared between you and your bride. We are not just observers. The immersive experience can sometimes be felt while watching the videos of solo canoe trips, but is rare indeed to experience it while watching a tandem pair or a group outing. Jon, well done!
"And to live out of doors with the woman a man loves is of all lives the most complete and free." A wonderful edit with music that really complimented the scenes, in everyway a 'Superior' trip. Thanks for the time and effort to film this Jon and Erin.
Been looking for someone with s gentle voice and most importantly really nice background noise and music to help me fall asleep and I'm so excited I've found your channel!
I’m just amazed at Lake Superior. I had no idea as to its size and diverse landscape. The wildlife is just incredible. This landlubber senior citizen is witnessing all this through your amazing videos. Thank you 😊
Look up the channel for nova pbs. Their latest documentary spends some time at about the 20 minute mark on some of the geology of Lake Superior and its shores. Volcanic rock on parts of the shore line stretches 30 miles into earth. Superior used to be, for 100s of thousands of year, a highly active volcanic site. Lake Superior is a very special place.
Seeing all these Eagles...just days ago Justin Trudeau was in Alberta and met with Native Chiefs. The Chiefs gave Trudeau a plaque with the name WALKING EAGLE. He was all smiles as he received this gift. Later on, hours later, a reporter asked one of the Chiefs, why did you give Trudeau the name WALKING EAGLE...Native chief says when an EAGLE is so full of 💩💩💩💩 , it can no longer fly...hence WALKING EAGLE. Great adventure to watch. Your videos are just off the charts.
Many thanks again to Shaun Cumby of Ontario for sending us the sail (it's amazing). For the record, Shaun is a viewer, not from a company...this channel is independent (supported by ads YT plays, Buy Me a Coffee patrons, and a bit of merch). But since some of you will want to know, the sail is by Wind Paddle and Shaun said it's the "adventure mode" model I believe, though I don't know where you can buy it. I think it's intended more so for kayaks but it has two clips that we attached to the bow thwart and Erin controlled it with the upper line. It would be difficult to do solo but it's amazing for tandem. Easy to deploy and collapse, weighs little. And the new tent is the Seek Outside Cimmaron. Paid over CAD $1000 to get one (with accessories) as opposed to similar ones for much less made overseas so I'm a bit disappointed with the design and durability so far...for that price. Hopefully it will perform better in winter as a lighter alternative to our canvas tent.
I have used a similar sail solo with an expanding curtain rod, a clip to the lines you hold to the top of pole then run a back stay from that clip back to your float vest!!! When you extend the rod, you can trim the sail in place so you can paddle steer! I still recommend a falcon sail or Balogh Sail Designs because they allow up wind sail paddling!
Jon I remember in one of your videos you explained that you didn’t believe in feelings or random beliefs about God. I want to tell you that I recently found your Channel. In a world filled with such division and hatred, I am so greatful that I can celebrate such strong reminders of the proof of the beautiful world God gave us. Im 73 and am blessed that you and Erin bring the parts of his beautiful world I have never seen. You are in God’s world. Up close and personal. He brought you the perfect soul mate. You are both so blessed. Thank you for making this widow’s life so happy by letting me celebrate his world up close and personal. Thank you both so much. ❤❤
thank you for taking the time to film your trip. Giving me the chance to view the beautiful scenery that I will otherwise never get a chance to experience myself.
As someone from Michigan and who lived on lake superior in the upper peninsula for 5 years, this video made me realize how extraordinary that lake is. I forget sometimes about the Canadian side!!
There should be a category added to the Oscars for Best TH-cam Canoe Trip Video, because this is the "Shawshank Redemption" of canoe tripping vidoes! So epic. And so great to see the two of you out on a trip again, that's wonderful!
That drone sequence on day 5 (around 46 minutes) was absolutely incredible. Left me speechless, breathtaking, awe inspiring, words can’t even do it justice.
The coast towards the Nipigon Straits is known by the long time locals as “Mosquito Coast” guess you know why now. Great paddle, thanks for taking everyone along.
I'm speechless at the natural beauty you're paddling through in your videos. Please catch, clean, cook and enjoy more fish on your videos. It's the next best thing to having them yourself.
Thanks for the love on the video...sorry I'm behind on comments but covering some FAQs here: *-Why no fishing?* We were too busy hugging the shoreline to examine the rocks to troll/fish. Also because of rough conditions at times, using the sail, trying to get somewhere, etc. And these days I don't like to fish if I'm not in a position to keep (in case the fish is injured and can't be released). Some videos will have lots of fishing, some may have none. If I include the word "fishing" in the title or don't, that is your best clue for how much fishing to expect. *-Why not use Thermacell?* Xander has one and they work, but I have my distrust for anything bug-killing (if used in a closed space like a tent you'll see them dead on the ground) and it's one more thing to bring, however I definitely would have used it at the last site on our trip *-Knee injury:* Some limitations but getting pretty solid. Better all the time with physio. *-Who makes that sail?* Wind Paddles and it's the adventure mode I believe but I don't know where to buy it or if it's still made *-When are you getting married?* November *-When/where are you moving?"* Hopefully this fall but we're waiting for the right place. We're staying around Lake Superior but closer to Erin's fam.
Thanks Jon and Erin on this trip. Can’t imagine what you two go thru to make such a beautiful documentation of such a timeless beautiful place. I really enjoyed it. Those darn bugs! How did the old folks survive them. Love you guys love the respect you show towards the land! Thank you once again Tim.
Crazy crazy crazy. Not gonna lie. This is random. I'd love to show you the "build." I just got out all of my random sails including the North Sails for the "trimaran" project. Motorcycles on the back burner. I'm not even reading my "notes" below. I may need to shift to your site to find a newer post. With that said. I pray you guys are well and all is good. I think I'm over my addiction issues and am very much forgiven and continue to have fun in my retirement and continue to be inspired by Lost Lakes. On to your site for a new vid. Having lunch you know. 😳
What's better than seeing Jon back out in the wilderness? Seeing John AND Erin out in the wilderness! So happy for you that the knee continues to improve and not give you trouble. Really, the best possible outcome to such a scary and sudden injury. Here's to enjoying the best, long days of summer. Cheers!
Wow wow wow wow wow. I cant stress enough that your photography and cinematography gets better and better with every single video. And I am here for it. As someone from the industry myself I can certainly appreciate great stories being told with great images. Thank you so much for your effort you put into these videos, the photography, the cinematography and the editing of course. And the stories you tell. I am here, we are here, to listen and to watch. I wish you nothing but the best and hopefully a full and quick recovery. Stay safe and sane and healthy. We appreciate you!
Pre-treat your tent with permethrin and you won't wake up to those hordes of mosquitoes; they'll be dead. Thanks for taking us with you again. The drone footage of the canoe in the cove is spectacular.
The BEAUTY was beyond SPECTACULAR. I never thought I would think anywhere could be as or more beautiful than the Rocky Mountains but WOW this lake did it for me. There's toooo much to comment on so I'm not even going to try...I just absolutely 100% enjoyed every step/paddle of the way. So glad I went along.
You keep bringing it Jon and Erin. Seems like the best kept secret has unfolded to the ones who seek the hand of creation. I am seriously rethinking my bucket list because this place embodies all I would want to see in my life's dawning days with someone who can see it with the same passion, and become one from earth to sky. Thanks again for bringing it.
I've been watching your videos from oldest to newest and you have steadily matured in your video recording. One commented that you have gone from vlogging to film maker, I totally agree. You captured the colors of the water, the rock formations, the sun rises and sun sets, wild life and the scenery wonderfully, it was like being there sans bugs, wind, heat, cold and rain. Perfect background music tracks as well. It is great to see you and Erin enjoying nature and each other. On a side note the weird barking screeching sound at around the 55:00 minute mark might have been Mrs Fox yelling at Mr Fox for coming home late again...I'm jus' sayin', bless my heart. Keep those cameras rolling!
👋👍🤗❤️You guys are my favorite. With so much focus on couples doing horrible things to each other, it's nice to see couples having fun with each other, working together to keep them safe, joking, and having good laugh with each other. The bonus is that we get to come along to see all the beauty you guys capture.
Absolutely stunning photography..fabulous wildlife, and the scenery in general and your campsites in particular were magical. So happy to have you both out on an adventure.
Imagine the tremendous sounds during the Ice Age when these massive rocks crushed together making tiny stones filling The Great Lakes and rocks tumbling about to form islands?! Incredible!!!
I couldn’t have described the beauty of your work any better than Hillyman. Your videos are professional movies that are phenomenal! Thank you so so much.
Booyah!! Nice film, nice Lil story ... sent to my Loco outdoors daughter and ocean swimmer/kayaker, in Alaska. She is a Master Electrician, intense and, deep into these sorts of adventures.
Bravo, you two. Another masterful and beautiful journey together! The sunrises and sunsets, wildlife, the journey.....it's awesome to live these trips through the eyes of another, and to be able to experience Lake Superior and the surrounding area when I'll probably never get to see it myself. Thank you for taking the time to do this, Jon and Erin. The efforts are truly appreciated by all of us in YT land. Cheers!
"We aint had nothing but this rabbitty island for 3 stinking days" maybe the funniest thing i ever heard! So happy to see the two of you back out enjoying Superior together! Whether its just John, just Erin, John and Erin or John and Xander, i always love whatever you give us. Can't wait to see what's next!
Oh man. So much incredible beauty! Gods creation! I’m a rock picker too! You did great Erin! Loved everything about this one! Thanks for taking an old lady with you! So happy you are back Jon! ❤️🙏🏻
Jon, I’ve always loved your videos. I have to say though, the Lake Superior trips are my favorite and they just seem to bring out your best videography and editing. Superior is such a special place and you and Erin have explored it numerous times which seems like only a bucket list dream for most of us watching.
This was a remarkable film...I Loved every minute of it!!! It was a joy, for me, to get to know Erin better. Hey, are you familiar with the "White Hurricane of November 1913, on the Great Lakes?" I wasn't but just watched a short video about it. Ships and lives lost.
Yahooooooooo! So great to see you two out again 💜 Is that a band of gold I see Erin? I am going to take a bit of time watching this one and if congratulations are in order may I say so with much joy for you both 🥰🥂 More comments coming but amazing wildlife from the get go! Cheers, B
I can't adequately express the joy I feel watching your many travels. I'm recovering from a third stroke. Because of the strokes it's not safe for me or companions to get to have these experiences personally. I really appreciate your narrative pace. It allows for vicarious pleasures. Thanks once more.
Outstanding video. Your editing, sound and choice of visuals is wonderful. The sound is fantastic. Really enjoyed Erin's rock hounding, the sound of the stones on the beach as she ran her fingers through them. Nice, unexpected touch. All of it makes the viewer feel like they are there. Love the positive energy, and both of your true joy at being there. Thank you for such a lovely viewing experience.
Jon and Erin. You two are by far the best at what you do on TH-cam!! Your trips, video, editing, how you get along… all stunning! Takes me a couple days but I can’t wait to get new videos!! You live an amazing life.. thank you. MK Pittsburgh, PA
I love Farley Mowat! I have "Two Against the North" and then "Canada North Now ~ The Great Betrayal" ?~ The second one I don't recall - maybe political. Not sure. And then I know I've got another hard bound but can't find it right now. ~ I've already paused this wonderful story twice. Oh well. ✨🌸✨
As we’ve come to expect, another awesome video from Jon and Erin. Over-the-top scenery, wildlife, and vast horizons. But, the bugs, man! OMG, the bugs!
I am at a loss for words to explain how truly enjoyable this video was. The love Erin has for you exudes immeasurably. This warms my heart to watch you two & live vicariously through you both, on such a breathtaking journey 😊
Hi Jon and Erin. Don't worry about answering any questions I may have as I believe the answer occurred later in the video. At 11:21 i noticed a contraption with water, perhaps a filter and another bag holding water. I decided you were making sure the water was good to drink. The never ending cliffs were wonderful to see and watch you investigate I love each and every silhouette shot especially when you are watching a sun set leaning on each other. But also loved your paddling silhouette against the cliffs. And I have meant to comment on Erin's beautiful paddle. Gorgeous. Glad you two have found each other to share in the challenges you face checking out the lost lakes. Cheers,
Spellb😮nding Jon! Loved the closeups of the shoreline, the wildlife and the crystal clear water. You’ve captured the magic! Music and cinematography is exceptional. I love this shore. You’ve done it up right!
What an absolute treasure trove of wildlife that trip gave you... maybe even too much if you count the mosquitoes streaming into the tent! Loved that one shot where you paddled off and had both the sunrise and the moon in frame at once. Beautiful stuff.
Your videos and photography are amazing. So well put together. This is definitely one of my favorites. So happy to have you back and I'm so glad Erin is getting a break and enjoying the summer. ❤
Lake Superior is soooo beautiful 😍😍😍if I would live there, I would exactly do the same 😍you are so blessed 🤗and I am so happy to see you both together on a trip. You are such a cute couple 🤗😘greetings to Erin and best wishes for you two 😘🤗🍀
Every...single...aspect of your video production quality is some of the very most impressive I've seen from someone who does not do videography for a living. Your shots. Oh man, you get the shots. You must expend a million calories getting so many set up every day and then canoeing Lake Superior...and they have such wonderful contrasting elements in them. Depth of field. Little panning. Just wow. Your editing. Superb. Shots are not too long. Not too short. Goldilocks. Audio? Amazing given the background noise elements you have to deal with. You should be studying film....or just showing everyone in the conference room these videos to get your first big time nature doc produced outside of YT. Could easily be on Discovery.
I am so very happy to see you both paddling! I think it makes me almost as happy as it must make you both. Thank you and I hope you can keep them coming through the summer!
We're all so blessed to travel these wild ancient shores. We're 68 and 71 yrs old now, and your work is a treasure and as Thoreau says in his poem Inspiration, 'shows where life's true kernel's laid'. For nearly 50 years this Lake has been THE soul significance in our marriage. I don't think anyone ever really makes it back to what we call civilization. The Lake exposes our human efforts as a sham. Enough people make a wrong turn and you realize you just followed in the footsteps of those who created a false trail that peters out. Nothing to do but turn around and go back. BRING BACK BEAUTY!!
Wow, this film was absolutely incredible you two! The wildlife, the locations, the bugs… what a fantastic film, truly. It’s such a wonderful time watching the two of you explore Lake Superior, I loved the rock hunts, seeing the breathtaking cliffs, and just listening to you two talk about your adventure. Wonderful music selection. Especially for the ending. Love the slideshow to go with it too. Beautiful photography as well throughout. This is a wonder. Thank you.
The best of the best "content providers" on You Tube just get me into a mess. Every time. I looked at this one again only to 'match" the trip with Google Earth. So yea, not gonna lie, last week, I think to Friday I skipped along with the 22 day trip on Lake Nipigon. Then got all tied up with all the "details" with lots and lots of "suggestions" on that "Multi View" experience. I was thinking that I should just Patreon you guys. ~(I"ve never done that because I am retired ~yada yada.) So ~ Huge Congratulations on the November date. Thanks for sharing that. I did send away for a book about making canoes into sailboats with pontoon rigs. I do continue to want to "do this trip." So there. You both are an inspiration. Thanks so much. Best wishes and God Speed with all that you choose to do. ✨🌸🙏🌸✨. 🇺🇸
Wow. What an unforgettable trip. Each turn you’s made seemed more beautiful then the last.Amazing wildlife footage. This is one of your best, and so nice to see you’s out together. Have fun topping this one.🥰
I loved this . I loved the clear (almost ) calm water ,the beautiful views , seeing the animals, but most of all I loved seeing you two do what makes you happy. ♥️

Beautiful movie! Thanks for sharing this amazing trip with us! Makes us wanna go too! 🙂
It was so good to see you and Erin today!! I love all the wildlife and rocks and cliffs are I really enjoy the long slow paddle!! I really enjoy the longer videos!! It was awesome!! Thanks for sharing it brings me joy!! ❤❤
What an amazing trip all shown online. I currently live in Florida, but came from Michigan. Makes me remember all the great trips especially in the Upper Peninsula. Would love to go back up north and do it all again. Everything you showed was excellent (mosquitos being the exception). You both put out a very impressive video. So beautiful... I would be glad to see more of your adventures.
Canada is the most beautiful country on earth, and Superior with its deep dark depths haunt your souls with its sirens song drawing you in ❤ Beautiful cinematography of such breathtaking views and as always you are both such charming narrators .This truly brought me to tears …thank you so much.
A truly captivating video. You wouldn't by any chance have coordinates for the underwater dock/boat debris would you? Also, here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan we can find what are called locally "yoopoerlites". They have patterns that glow under blacklight. Superior agates are found here as well. All near Marquette. MI. It's fascinating to me how this huge area is geologically the same. Thanks again for the great trip.
What a lot of people don't get about Lake Superior is that it's not simply a lake, because it certainly doesn't look or behave like one. The shoreline and the islands are so varied because it's so big. I did the math here, and you could fit all of New Jersey, Vermont, Hawaii, Connecticut, and Rhode Island in it with nearly 1,000 square miles to spare. It's MASSIVE.
I love your videos. I savor your videography and I submerge myself in your journey through nature. It fills my soul. It heals all the rough spots. Thank you for that vision of peace.🌺🌈🀄️

A wonderful edit with music that really complimented the scenes, in everyway a 'Superior' trip.
Thanks for the time and effort to film this Jon and Erin.
Many thanks Si!
What a delightful surprise to see the two of you back on the lake. Both of you have been missed.

Can you take the stuff sack and put it on top of the pool to block the hole? I've been looking at them for camping with my family.

Superb filming and commentary. Can no longer paddle but love taking the trip vicariously with you.
We are incredibly lucky to live in North America with all its beauty. The Great Lakes are a national treasure!
don't know how I ended up on this vid, but the peace it has brought me is priceless!
As someone from Michigan and who lived on lake superior in the upper peninsula for 5 years, this video made me realize how extraordinary that lake is. I forget sometimes about the Canadian side!!

Ok I understand…still love you videos!

That was just a great trip.... the wildlife, the scenery and the gorgeous water!! Absolutely STUNNING and BREATH-TAKING!!!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks so much Kristin!!
This was stunning. You are a master with the camera. This was a full on film worthy of Nat Geo, Discovery or Sundance.
Thank you so much!

Absolutely stunning photography..fabulous wildlife, and the scenery in general and your campsites in particular were magical. So happy to have you both out on an adventure.
Thanks a million John!
Imagine the tremendous sounds during the Ice Age when these massive rocks crushed together making tiny stones filling The Great Lakes and rocks tumbling about to form islands?! Incredible!!!
That was unbelievably incredible you guys. This could've been 10 hours and I'd watch every second
Truly appreciate that!
We live in Michigan, this is one of the coldest lakes, of the great lakes.. beautiful country 😊❤
I couldn’t have described the beauty of your work any better than Hillyman. Your videos are professional movies that are phenomenal! Thank you so so much.
This video journey was exquisite! Lovely hosts Jon & Erin. Thank you for posting. Reliving my adventurous youth through you!🛶💕
Cheers!
Just watched the 22 day trip. It was amazing. We’re hooked😀 thanks, Jim n Judy in Texas
Hahah thanks so much Donald!
Both of you in a film is a vibe.
Oh man. So much incredible beauty! Gods creation! I’m a rock picker too! You did great Erin! Loved everything about this one! Thanks for taking an old lady with you! So happy you are back Jon! ❤️🙏🏻
Im crossed canoe or snow vids
Erin brings everything to your videos
You both are extremely lucky
Finding each other
Cheers
Cheers, B
Thanks B!! Just a placeholder she wears on trips to keep the engagement ring safe, but she'll be getting the real band in November :)
@@LostLakes November weddings are beautiful!
Always find your logic and safety conscious approach comforting. Don't like open water much either.
I can't adequately express the joy I feel watching your many travels. I'm recovering from a third stroke. Because of the strokes it's not safe for me or companions to get to have these experiences personally. I really appreciate your narrative pace. It allows for vicarious pleasures. Thanks once more.
I really empathize Tom...hang in there and I'm glad to hear these help a bit. Thank you!
Beautiful, wow!😃💜🛶
Outstanding video. Your editing, sound and choice of visuals is wonderful. The sound is fantastic. Really enjoyed Erin's rock hounding, the sound of the stones on the beach as she ran her fingers through them. Nice, unexpected touch. All of it makes the viewer feel like they are there. Love the positive energy, and both of your true joy at being there. Thank you for such a lovely viewing experience.
Truly appreciate that!
Definition of life. Thank you for sharing your experience. It was amazing
Incredible trip! Happy to see you two out together! That aerial shot of the canoe in the crystal clear water of the bay was superb!!
Wow. So beautiful. Awe inspiring.
The wildlife was abundant! What a treat. Excellent video! Can’t wait for the next one 😊
That sail is a great bit of kit.
One of the best videos ever ! It was nice to see Jon and Erin together on this 11 day trip. The wildlife was amazing.
Thanks a lot Lynda!
Spectacular..
Thank you so very much
Jon and Erin.
Oh well. ✨🌸✨
Your filming and editing is top notch! I've definitely been taking notes. Thanks for sharing another great adventure! Really enjoyed it!
Very much appreciated!
What a privilege to see this sacred place through your eyes. Thank you!
Truly appreciate that Sydney!
Thanks a bunch Barb!! :)
Growing up in Thunder Bay and just have been camping around here is awesome to see a whole beautiful video on it, beautiful job
I do not normally watch long winded videos, but yours kept me captivated! Thank you for sharing your adventure with us!
Wow, that sail really works. I need this for my kayak.
What an absolute treasure trove of wildlife that trip gave you... maybe even too much if you count the mosquitoes streaming into the tent! Loved that one shot where you paddled off and had both the sunrise and the moon in frame at once. Beautiful stuff.
Great video.😍
Truly appreciate that!
I believe this video is superior, amazing footage I love it, thank you for sharing
I am so very happy to see you both paddling! I think it makes me almost as happy as it must make you both. Thank you and I hope you can keep them coming through the summer!
💚💚
Thank you.
Thanks a million SSW!
Incredible. Wow.
Thanks a lot Margaret!
Beautiful video / documentary
Awesome
What an amazing trip all shown online. I currently live in Florida, but came from Michigan. Makes me remember all the great trips especially in the Upper Peninsula. Would love to go back up north and do it all again. Everything you showed was excellent (mosquitos being the exception). You both put out a very impressive video. So beautiful...
I would be glad to see more of your adventures.
The rocks with natural holes are called hag stones also known as holy stones.
Canada is the most beautiful country on earth, and Superior with its deep dark depths haunt your souls with its sirens song drawing you in ❤ Beautiful cinematography of such breathtaking views and as always you are both such charming narrators .This truly brought me to tears …thank you so much.
End of day 9 campsite was my favorite
A truly captivating video. You wouldn't by any chance have coordinates for the underwater dock/boat debris would you? Also, here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan we can find what are called locally "yoopoerlites". They have patterns that glow under blacklight. Superior agates are found here as well. All near Marquette. MI. It's fascinating to me how this huge area is geologically the same. Thanks again for the great trip.
Thank you! It was around here

Wow that description certainly puts it's size in perspective 👍
Amazing video! So happy to see you both back out there ❤
I love your videos. I savor your videography and I submerge myself in your journey through nature. It fills my soul. It heals all the rough spots. Thank you for that vision of peace.🌺🌈🀄️
