4 years ago I felt lost, even though society had clearly paved the path for me. I was 17 and living in Stockholm Sweden. After seeing the documentary "Alone in the wilderness" by Dick Proenneke, I became completely obsessed with the idea of just packing a rucksack of hand tools and wondering off into the vast forest of Sweden to create my own life, living off the land and build a log cabin. I found my meaning, but I was still in high school. My Grandparents owned forest so I started spending more and more time with them every weekend, wandering out, dreaming of my obsession and asking for advise. I had absolutely no prior knowledge of anything how I was going to do this, just the obsession to learn. When I turned 18 I told everyone of my plans. I received a gopro camera from my parents, so I could at least film some of my adventures. I hadn't even thought about filming anything but I did so and am I glad I did. It is a long story from here of hard work, pain, cold, making many many mistakes and figuring out how to solve problems all alone by trial and error. But I finally built the cabin all alone after 3 years. Along the way I also became passionate in filmmaking, so I invested in a better camera. The whole journey is filmed on a tripod and edited by me, which was lets just say a struggle (I am insane). Some people will doubt this and say I had a film crew and construction team, which I just take as a big complement. I know my journey and I hope to inspire others the same way Dick Proenneke inspired me.
What makes this so unique is the fact that there's no blaring music. It's just the sounds of nature and someone building a cabin. Honestly at first: I thought it was gonna be boring but I somehow got really hooked.
No need for music here. These sounds are so relaxing because they are natural to us, the sounds of nature are in harmony. The sounds of the city are in disharmony, they are unnatural and cause us stress. Noise pollution is terrible to humans, animals and the environment.
@@russelltackett4779 Eh, a big war isn't the collapse yet. But we're on the brink of things about to get really hard where we'll envy the fellows who can just live in a cabin off the grid

Not only did he build that log cabin, which is mindblowing yet alone. He also documented everything in the most wonderful way. Just imagine how much work alone he had with positioning his GoPro on all those different places before he could actually work.

The man has carpenting, forging, farming, and cooking skills, and he knows how to build a house from scratch, not to mention the persistence and character strengths he gained along the way. You're such a talented person. Congratulations on your project!
I think something I love about this is that he didn't force himself to have to rely on everything from nature, it looks like maybe his grandparents or himself went out and bought some things to help him on his journey, like tools and concrete powder and other helpful survival equipment, even a razor to cut his hair. It just makes it feel more realistic in a sense, and he is very open about the tools he used showing them in many camera shots clearly and demonstrating the use. This is just a masterpiece of his entire 3 year journey, so much respect.
If the point is to build a log cabin, it doesn't mean you have to make the tools yourself or anything like that. My Self Reliance -channel is also a good example of that. Obviously you can use whatever tools and lifting equipment you feel comfortable with. For many of these guys it's the process of building a cabin by hand. Not to be some 100% primitive all from nature kind of a -channel, which usually are also fake as fuck. Huge respect to these guys doing something like this and enjoying the nature while they're at it.
Not just the cabin was amazing, but the transformation of your body, and the relationship between you and your dog is absolutely incredible. Feel like I got to know you as an actual person.
You even see Erik replanting some saplings to replace the trees he's felled, which is great. Probably the most resourceful, and talented, young man I've yet to witness. Really inspiring.
As long as he plants the exact same type of tree. If you cut down a big, strong oak, do not replant a scrawny pine tree to replace it. Which is exactly what the coal mining companies of the Appalachian mountains do.

It's sad how many people think it's actually impossible for him to do this or know how to do so many things. It seems like the average human intelligence has gotten very low if people think having the knowledge to do this is impossible. People are always horrible at judging what is real and what is fake. This is easily real and truthful with many sources to back it up. But people will keep commenting that it's fake. Why? I'm guessing it has to do with the lower average intelligence. People have gotten used to TV and social media influencers doing all the thinking for them i suppose.
Most people can - you watch and learn and work. But most people don't have the opportunity - they have to work for money. If you have 3-4 years of not having to worry about bills, rent, work - you would be able to do it.
What I love about this story is it seems his family were so supportive of it and were just like "Yeah go be yourself, here's a camera to film it for us so we can see it being built" 😆 That's so awesome to me.

there is no doubt, that he did the most work on it. Still, with 18 to 21, you don't have so much knowledge about house building, all the different tools, techniques, etc. he might have had some knowledge before if he did an apprenticeship with 16, but even then that would only cover the very basics.

Eventhough I looked foward to and watched every single one posted, as they were uploaded, watching this well edited compilation is nonetheless as interesting and entertaining. As with each of the individual vids, to this day I remain impressed at this talented and skilled young man. All that and the editing atop of it all, I am sincere when I say, "Very well done, Erik and thank you for sharing it all"!

Between this and Primitive Technology, I watch these just to keep this knowledge in the back of my head, should society ever collapse.

This is just a masterpiece of his entire 3 year journey, so much respect.
ye its nice to watch something like this thats not 1 of the fake "prim building" channels
I gotta agree with this in every way. It was my favorite part.
True. It’s powerful

I am so astonished by the level of dedication you have in litterally everything, from the Cabin building itself, to the way it is filmed, the way you cook, the you forge metals, gather all the food, spend time with nature etc, I'm just left speechless.. you invited your family, hunted and grew the food you served, cooked it with stuff you built yourself, you built the table and the spoons, there is just so much knowledge and craftmanship for one men that's insane

Genuinely one of the most inspiring TH-cam videos I have seen in years. This is a masterpiece, and is not just a documentary about you building your cabin, genuinely and whole heartedly from scratch, but it’s an all encompassing documentary of you learning, maturing, and just experiencing life at its peak, being able to do something at your own pace, with intense passion, and nothing stopping you
There is not a single shot where he learned anything. Everything went wonderfull from start to finish. Not to mention the national geographic worth bird and animal shots.
