  • A deep (sky)dive into the dark, scary, and disturbing moments that make up The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. In this first video, I focus on a few of the games most memorable bosses (which includes the infamous Tentalus, and The Imprisoned), along with some of the creepiest locations in Zelda's history (The Ancient Cistern underground--inspired by Hell as depicted by The Spider's Thread--the Sandship under attack, and the Silent Realm trials).

Hot take: When powerful monsters end up with surprisingly goofy designs such as that of the Imprisoned or Tentalus, it adds to the fear factor because of the realization that something so goofy looking can and will murder you in cold blood.

10:44 The silent realm “ticking” noise here is still scary. This and the majora clock tower chime sound like pure dread

I don't know why, but The Imprisoned's dark aura always made me feel more grossed out than scared. The whole thing just looks dirty, rotten and stinky

I do agree the imprisoned's toes and arms are pretty cartoonish and silly but I will say that the demonic halo it receives in its final encounter that allows it to fly is both cool and intimidating, not to mention makes the fight all the more frantic.

I remember hearing about the inspiration behind it but I hadn’t actually read the story/watched the short film until making this video! I have a new appreciation for it-I love the care put into this dungeon and the details like there being a unique song when Link climbs the thread…definitely made an impression 😅

That's awesome, congratulations! I went for all the Heart Containers this time around--I think there's a few Goddess Cubes I still need to get for 100% though 😅 what'd you think about the game overall?
Are you considering Hero Mode? Your treasure & bugs carry over, plus your Skyward Strike will be at Master Sword level from the start. There are no heart drops until you collect a Heart Medal and enemies deal double damage so I've heard it's pretty challenging, I might give it a go after a break from the game!

@@ThaneGaming I really enjoyed my time with Skyward Sword! I played the Wii U version, which is probably one of the better versions to play I’m pretty sure because I think load times are faster and the Wii Remote is a lot less likely to lose calibration. I digress.
The story was really engaging and I think it’s easily one of the top 5 best Zelda stories! This is also my favorite version of Zelda and I think what really helps me feel that way was seeing the relationship between Link and Zelda here, seeing Link show so much emotion to his childhood friend made me feel like I needed to save her and I genuinely felt sad when she sealed herself in that crystal! The dungeons were extremely well-designed and creative, like that Buddhist temple area with that extremely creepy basement, that abandoned ship that shifts between two time periods, that temple that reminded me of Mole Mania, that eire Forest area that you had to flood, or that dungeon that had you change the whole layout constantly! Many of the design elements here just feel inspired! I mean, the desert area was just outstanding! Along with Zelda, everyone else on Skyloft was filled with so much personality! I can’t stress enough that Skyloft is one of the best locations in Zelda history! It’s so pleasant, with tons to explore and so many fun side quests, each leading to something new and rewarding!
However, I wish the game expanded on some of its ideas more. Pouch items are great because it encourages you to only take out what you need and for you to strategize, however, I never needed to really think much about this until the near end of the game because I didn’t have much to swap between until then. Flying in the sky is kind of underwhelming. There was only, like, one boss in the sky and very little to explore. At least it doesn’t waste your time like the train in Spirit Tracks did, however, unlike the Spirit Train, they never utilized the Loftwing in any creative ways, which is massively disappointing. What also really surprised me was the fact that you could not even attack enemies in the sky until really late in the game! The shield durability was a very interesting mechanic, however, once I got the shield that automatically repaired itself, it never became a problem anymore, which doesn’t make sense. Catching bugs and finding where they were hiding was a really fun experience, but bugs don’t really do much for some reason and that sucks too. They are all over the place and all they do is buff potions and get sold. Feels like wasted potential. Why couldn’t there be a side question to do something like collect a bunch of butterflies for a little girl or something?
I’ll probably try Master Mode later on. When it comes to Zelda games, once I finish them, I like to wait a few years before I return to them for the most part. This is because there are SO MANY Zelda games out there and it’s basically impossible to play every Zelda game in such a short time period, so I end up always missing playing one game. I am sure I will eventually miss playing Skyward Sword one day and return to it in the Master Mode, but for the time being, I’m taking a break from the game.

@@nickk3077 I'm with you on finishing Zelda games, then waiting a few years before replaying them again. The only 3D Zelda I have yet to complete is Twilight Princess--I really do appreciate the aesthetic now and I liked it as a kid, but I stopped playing because I got stuck at the Lakebed Temple and didn't have the motivation to continue. I can't wait to give it another shot as an adult, I will be playing it on Wii U as well 😁 that's cool you played Skyward Sword on Wii U, I guess I wasn't aware there were faster load times though that makes sense! My wife is going to be playing through that version because she wants to use the original controller. Totally agree with you on the sky segments, very underutilized which is disappointing because Wind Waker (IMO) did it far better with The Great Sea and its island exploration. I loved that there was one key island on every square of the map, compared to Skyward Sword and its vast empty space with only a handful of explorable floating islands. I am with you on Skyloft and its bazaar being one of the best locations in the franchise, I love all the characters!

@@ThaneGaming Have fun with Twilight Princess! I love that game! Is it underrated? I’m not entirely sure, but I think many people are starting to like it less as the years continue, which I don’t understand. That game is a masterpiece! The Wii U version is great and is the best way to play it, however, it’s not as great as it could be. After seeing the possible Zelda game we could’ve gotten with the Wii U tech demo showing off a Twilight Princess-esque game, what we got was a little underwhelming. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the game looks great, but only like 85% of the time. The other 15% the game looks either ok or surprisingly really bad... I wish it had more care put into it because TP means a lot to me and many others. The GamePad use in that game is pretty cool actually! It has gyro use, a map, and easy to switch between items with the the touch screen!
I never had any issues with load times in the Wii U version of SS. I’m sure that loading was never a huge issue in the Wii version, but digital games usually have faster loading times! I wished that Nintendo made this game 60fps too on Wii U. Oh well, I don’t care much about that anyways. I’m sure the Switch excels in these two areas, but I’m not too sure about the controls because of the lack of a sensor bar for seamless recalibration of the sword. Plus, it three times more expensive...
The sky is disappointing because it had so much potential, however, I’m glad that BotW’s sequel will take place largely in the sky because it will give them the opportunity to fully develop there ideas. Speaking of BotW’s sequel, I know we just saw the one trailer showing this off, but I hope there ends up being multiple ways of aerial traversal and not just the paraglider. Incidentally, have you played the DS Zelda games? They also provided new methods of traveling the world too. I made a comment about the Spirit Train being a waste of time, but they do come up with a few great ideas for it underneath a bunch of mild mediocrity! The ship in Phantom Hourglass is also pretty neat too! Much better than the Loftwing!
Yeah, Skyloft is amazing! I actually end up caring about nearly everyone in there and want to save them once I finish their quests! I also really like the people at that pumpkin restaurant! Such a calming atmosphere. I wished there was more of it, but I already told you enough of my opinions on it!

Is it wrong that I actually liked the Imprisoned fight? I mean, it feels like you are taking down a giant titan and defeating it makes you feel super powerful! It’s the biggest enemy in the game. Every future version fills you with more anxiety! It’s exciting and puts you on edge!

    • @ThaneGaming
      @ThaneGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

To be honest, the "dread of having to fight it at least 3 times" bit was more of a joke--I never actually minded at all since each battle is over in under five minutes! The gameplay is fine (I think lots of players might not know you don't have to attack its toes, which is where their frustration comes from)--I just dislike the look of it 😅 the individual black scales and its maw are cool though!
