- MOTHER 3's Chapter 7 introduces us to the Dark Dragon, the Ultimate Chimera, Tanetane Island, and...Negative Man? It's the largest chapter by far and gives us some of the game's darkest content yet, with the creepy Chimera Lab and traumatic Tanetane hallucinations of Lucas' family & friends as standouts.

That thunder strike in the opening always gets me!
I remember playing around with the volume of that thunder to try and get it just right--I would have the same reaction 😆
I always felt more unsettled with tanetane island than with Moonside and the possibility of a Hinawa apparation blaming Lucas for her death as her sprite turns into a zombie genuinely horrifies me and hits really hard! Can't wait for the finale :)

Yeah I had to take several breaks when writing the script to collect myself...I threw up when I had to record the section again

Thanks so much! Those Itoi interviews are part of the reason why I focus on this series so much, I love his ideologies and perspective. Any conversation he’s a part of veers in unexpected directions too and never fails to be interesting 😅

i always felt so bad for negative man, usually i don't really feel sorry for fictional enemies in games but something about him was different. I fought him once but i couldn't max myself beat him it just felt wrong man idk
I think it’s really interesting how much we don’t know about him. He’s just a strange, broken creature isolated in a cave and shunned by the rest of the world. It wasn’t very nice of Lucas & co. to come kick him while he’s down 😅 but that is assuming he’s a tangible being-could he just symbolize the party’s own self-pity backed into a corner?

Mother 3 truly is the darkest Nintendo game, if that level of existential horror exists in surrounding material!
I legit go around Tazmily Village because I know this is the last time that I can visit it before going somewhere to pull the needle. I just wished somebody could hit my head with a baseball bat so I will remember visiting Hinawa's grave again. About Negative Man I actually run away and decided not to fight him and my thoughts where "Yeah he's definitely not worth it" after watching the part where you talk about him, I'm actually happy and fullfil I made that choice. Instead of trying to beat deppresion by oppressing it you give it a care and that care is just to simply spare him.
I guess that was the point.
