Ahh. This run reminded my time of speed running hell in Cave Story + version and holding WR for 4 years and 7 months. I no longer speed run hell, but I still love this game to death.

I finished Cave Story+, I just wish the developers stopped making remasters and remakes of the same game and just already made a sequel.
Clorox Hammer Clorox Hammer the problem is that the dev of the original Cave Story (“pixel” is his handle) shows no interest in making a sequel or franchise of any sort and I’m honestly ok with that, Cave Story is good as is and there are many fanmade attempts at a sequel, Jenka’s nightmare being the most prominent as a mod of the original game.
Apple Justice The original version is freeware, so anyone who wants to try it can. Then if they enioy it, they can buy Cave Story on the 3DS eShop for $10, Cave Story+ on Steam for $15, Cave Story+ on the Switch (either in retail or the eShop) for $30, or Cave Story 3D on the 3DS (retail only) for $40.
Cave Story 3D is not recommended. It's the only version that runs at 30fps, and is missing almost all of the extra content. The 3D models look pretty, and there's one hidden-away extra area that is exclusive to Cave Story 3D, but that's all it has going for it.
Instead, go for CS+ on the Switch. It has almost all of the extra content, and is ten bucks cheaper.
Clorox Hammer A Cave Story sequel would be great, but there's simply nowhere for the story to go. Quote and Curly served their purpose, The Doctor and Ballos are dead, the Demon Crown is destroyed, Balrog and Misery are free, the Mimiga are safe, and Quote, Curly and Balrog have all settled down somewhere together.
My youngest sister got this on the DSi shop years ago, and all of us siblings had a file on it, but I never personally ended up finishing the game. I oughtta change that someday. So many games to play, so little time...

still the best video game soundtrack ever
It's a great soundtrack, but there are definitely better ones out there (such as Xenoblade, Ys, Persona, Final Fantasy, Ace Attorney, etc.)
I personally prefer the remastered soundtrack (I think it came from the 3DS remake), it just sounds so good. The Wii Ware soundtrack is just... alright, I guess. But the original and remastered come out on the top IMO.
I was so pissed I missed this game, been practicing some speedruns in this game on my own, was finally able to pull off two tricks in the same run, skipping the dragon sisters fight after picking up the upgrade, and the heavy press skip in Hell

Yes, nostalgia. Cave story is a great game and I didn't realize that it was being run this GDQ. I'm surprised that they ran the English translator-less version(It's an extra file that lets you skip changing the computer to Japanese local), maybe there is less text boxes. I'm sad that I'm nowhere near as good, blooded sanctuary is insanely hard. I also had no idea you could stand on Balrog in the power room fight. Next GDQ I hope we get a TASBOT run of Cave Story. I'll leave with BEST SOUNDTRACK and remake extras(Playable Curly).
impressive run. I beat this game many times growing up and it's so hard. I remember getting stuck on Monster X for a long time. This runner makes the game look so easy, as speedrunners do. Extremely cool!

Amazing run! It's insane how consistent Shadax is at this game (especially the booster tech -- many of those corner boosts are _really_ difficult to perform consistently). Lots of epic moments in the run, like the damageless Lab M (the first two floors of it, at least), the basically-first-try Waterway skip, the Cemetery boosts, the frame-perfect boost out of the teleporter, the Misery round skip (the entirety of that boss rush, actually)...hopefully this won't be the last time we see Cave Story at a GDQ!
It's so wholesome watching him shoot his machine gun to the songs, like in 24:30, 41:00, and 51:17
Seeing this run inspired me to beat this game again for the first time in 2 weeks
I love how Cave Story speedruns aren't about finding exploits withtin the game to skip stuff, it's more just about pure knowledge of the game, and raw skill with the mechanics

I love this game so much. Getting the achivements was really hard but really fun.

knowing the strats makes the fight incredibly easy, kinda sad that you can cheese through it because it ends up being anticlimactic

The unskippable cutscenes are the only thing that's stopping me from replaying this game. I absolutely love it, but the walls of text are just intolerably long -- it makes it completely unplayable.

The bomb requires it. And it kinda sucks, you really have to get it 3 times for the story without the skip.
Why not get all the dogs at once? Feels like it'd be faster...
I think that's only possible in the newer versions of Cave Story. in the original, it's one at a time.
You can't collect multiple dogs in a single run in the older versions of the game. That feature was added in the Switch version (the version run here was the original freeware 2004 PC release).
i believe you cant do that in the original game, only in the remakes

I believe they explained the computer isn't in the right mode to display the Japanese text properly. Something like that, anyway.
