This run was a treat to watch! From the first try optional 3%, to the crowd shouting out lines, this run was a blast from start to finish.

Thank you! This was probably my favorite GDQ run I've done, but it meant even more to be up there with my good friends and having a lot of the Octopath community on the backup couch cheering us on. The ups and downs of this run was the most Octopath thing I've ever seen.
I love how in all the OT runs at GDQ so far, there's been someone in the background shouting out quotes.
Seems to be the same guy who was shouting out Tressa's lines last GDQ

To be fair, our heroes have very memorable battle quotes.

A happy mutt with not a care in the world. He is a good dog-but to be fair, all dogs are good dogs, and a pox upon he who dares to say otherwise.
I love the little descriptions in the game, but that's definitely one of the best ones

This game is probably my favorite game of all time, so it's amazing to see a speedrun of it finally.

Definitly mine too! You also tried Bravely default and bravely second on Nintendo DS ? These game are the origin of Octopath. And for best char i really love Alfyn for his BP boosts.
This game was already speedrun just a few months ago at AGDQ 2019.

Without a doubt, the best SGDQ run I have seen in recent memory. This was simply a joy to watch. That first try 3% was my favorite. Thanks for doing this, it was a treat!

Can someone explain to me the story/meme about Altabiscuit and the whole "Pizza Roll vs Bagel Bites" debate? I personally am a Bagel Bites type of guy for its texture and semblance to real pizza, but I love Pizza Rolls for the shear quantity that they put in the 90 Piece Bag and how much I could eat in one sitting LOL.
It basically just started as an silly argument on the speedrun discord about what people liked more and it went from there.
Shame no one mentioned upside down star rod ophilia though. Best OT Speedrun meme next to listening to Mattias's speech. :^)

yo so is there a speedrun reason why alfyn is so disliked or do they personally just not like him? he's my fav character so im just curious
We don't really hate Alfyn, he's just in an unfortunate spot on the map. For single story runs Alfyn is in an inconvenient spot and he's also the farthest away from Cyrus/Scholar Shrine so his own run has the longest time without Evasive Maneuvers. He has a more prominent role in the Galdera category though.
Why all the Alfyn hate? They are playing for Doctors Without Borders, that is literally what he is trying to do for his story.
Because his chapter 2 is waaaay farther than the other ones and he is not close to the scholar shrine for evasive maneuvers.

Just saying. Mattias is the Hardest Chapter 4 Boss in the game. I was 15 levels over leveled, screwed up for one turn, and almost died.
Where do you pet the dog?
After H'aanit's ch.1 boss, her master's dog comes into town. I believe that's when you pet the dog.
it’s not quite 199 lmao, but i just took 166 tries to get the 3% steal in my very first attempt at following the speedrun route 🙃

Yes, home buffering is still working on switch.
You basically have to button mash home once you've pressed the "no" button while still having your stick ups. Takes a few try to do

It's so weird hearing the characters speak. I turned voices off the second I started the game.
