It needs good white sausage gravy! *sigh* I know I can never go to Hawaii now without being beaten up.... :-(
I've actually had a country version loco moco in Hawaii. It had white sausage gravy over fried chicken steak and biscuits... it was there take on a country style loco moco... not really a loco moco though... never the less it was called loco moco on the menu
It looks to be very delicious. I will surely make and prove it this summer with a feeling of being in Hawaii. Thanks!
Aloooooha. Hawaiian dish - not Spanish. History of being invented for surfers- not students. Mahalo Chef John.
He didn't say it was Spanish.
@@Tethmes I did not say that he said it was Spanish. I mentioned this fact because many comments are focusing on the Spanish translations of the dish as Chef also mentioned loco meaning crazy in Spanish. Did you not watch the video ?
Made this tonight! Another masterpiece!!
The gravy should be smothered over the egg as well.
Is that the traditional way? I think I'd prefer the way it was shown here. The traditional style should always get it's moment though
Having the gravy smothered over the egg, hamburger patty and rice is the common way in Hawaii, that’s how I do it at home.
It doesn't look as nice in pictures if you do that. XD But definitely...gravy EVERYTHING at home!!!
Looks great. Haven't had that dish in 10 yrs. I'm going to have to make it.
You and the Cayenne pepper ,I watch a channel called Townsends , it’s dedicated to the 18th century life style, he cook things from the 1700’s and the main spice is nutmeg,so I imagine cayenne replaced nutmeg as time has rolled on . Chef John give it a look, John Townsend uses period correct Equipment watch the one on preserving smelt , it’s a hoot . Truly enjoy your videos,
Chef Henry

I enjoyed my first Loco Moco in a little place along the sea wall in Kailua Kona Hawaii, ten years ago. It can also be served with fries or mashed potato instead of rice. Thank you your recipe broth back great memories.
Delicious. Necessity is the mother of invention!
Wow Chef is so masterful with his food he managed to reassemble the food back together before the video ended.
Made this dish as soon as it was posted. Hit the spot. 👍
I love some cilantro on top perfect!👌🏽
