Longtime subscriber who lives a few minutes from this house. The butchering of Hualalai got a lot of belly laughs from the family but keep doing what you are doing.
Plus he didn't really cook it the proper local way. It's important to use Maui sweet onions as a starter. He also forgot to add Portuguese sausage for the fried rice. Oyster sauce is also missing for the fried rice. Every local knows you need the bling for fried rice of green onions.
The best loco loco we ever had was at Zippy’s Koko Marina, Oahu. The grilled the burger, served with fried Hawaiian rice and an awesome mushroom gravy. The grilled burger seemed to be just the perfect way to serve this. Topped off with good coffee, it was the perfect start to our day. We did a ton of research and now make our version often, especially love for Friday night dinner.
A friend of mine of almost 30 years worked at a Zippy's. He's from Kaneohe but lives in SoCal. He goes back to Oahu several times a year and stays at his dad's house. He and his wife are there now.
Wait Sam, that’s a great quote for a shirt from your merch.”if you don’t like onions, use them because you’re missing out on life. Fckin brilliant. I’d buy it
If I made that for breakfast I don't think I would be able to eat the rest of the day. It looks really good. Hope you all have a wonderful time in Hawaii
Loving the Big Island series, we love it there. You almost lost me at your pronunciation of Hualalai (hwa-la-lie), but I struggled the first time I stayed there!
Thank's Sam. I am a massive fan of the Loco Moco. The first time I served it to my family, they fell in love. What's not to love; the fragrant rice, the ground patty, the intense gravy, and the over-easy egg. OMFG!
Haha clicked on this because I grew up in Hawaii. Figured he'd be in Maui or Oahu but turns out he's in my home town. Outside of absolutely butchering Hualalai, great video!
I've always wanted to see Hawaii, unfortunately this is a dream. But, I am tickled to see you and your boys get this opportunity. The Loco Moco was just a bonus. ❤
I love the off the cuff stuff you do… “surprise addition of steak sauce”…. You saw you had it and knew it would bring a little extra. I do that and my family thinks I scattered and crazy. 🤪 I am😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Not sure if you are going to do another episode while you're there, but if so, could you do a custom Hawaiian desert? It's called Hula Pie, and it is so so so good! Completes any Hawaiian meal!
That's definitely on my list of things to try. And speaking of trying, you should make the world's greatest sauce - monkey gland sauce. You may need to visit a South African shop for the main ingredient though.
"It's going to be too big." I've heard that a million times! Great video. When I was stationed in Ha'waii that, was the go-to city from the hustle and bustle of over-tourism. Give me an effing gift, Sam!!
Welcome! Since it's in the name of the location I thought I might weigh in on pronunciation. Hualalai is the volcano that this property sits on. It's pronounced Hua (like the marines saying ) - la (like lala land) - lai (like lie). Hua-la-lai. Looks like an amazing trip!
What a gorgeous getaway! I’m loving what you’re cooking and about to go make it myself. My son is going to be so excited! Please send that knife over when you get back in town. Your neighbor, Casey
Some things are not meant to be "elevated". Plain white rice, a seared burger patty or slab of spam, topped with a simple brown gravy and a fried egg is exactly all its sposed to be.
Never heard of this before and it looks amazing. I'm so glad you made this for us and shared the recipe. You're the best Sam. Thank you and enjoy Kona 😋🤗🥰🌞
When you get back to SD, you need to check out the Hilo-style Loco Moco at Leilani’s in PB. I lived in the Islands for six years and Leilani’s is the best Loco Moco I’ve had.
You'd think someone behind the damn camera could have told me I had a fricking feather on my back! You'd think, but apparently not.
Starting to think the camera person is out to get you 😄.
I didn't notice. And you're not tricking me into going back and looking for a feather 😛😅
I seriously had to scroll back to notice it. Are we gonna have to call you Sam the Sissy Cooking Guy? Really?
2024 was a very bad year for me, but still i dont want it to end before winning the knife.....
The good thing is with that view, no-one even noticed. We were all paying attention to the ocean.
Now this is how you write off a vacation to Hawaii as a business expense. Excellent job!
In my country they would make you proof why was it necessary to go to Hawaii hahaha like rent a fake Hawaiian background 😂
Now if they would let a landscaper from Rhode Island make a video at their house lol! Great video as always.
I was thinking the same thing. #lifegoals
I feel sorry fir y'all. What a sad place to be. No snow!?
Heard, chef

@ryanhori6954 this is Sam the Cooking Guy not Sam Choy so I wouldn't expect him to cook it the local way
All I want for the holidays is for the Boys to do a full pig roast in Hawaii.
Gross

Very noble of the boys to go to Hawaii for us. I for one very much appreciate it
Along with luaus and a plate lunch, a Loco Moco in Hawaii is an absolute must.
Wait Sam, that’s a great quote for a shirt from your merch.”if you don’t like onions, use them because you’re missing out on life. Fckin brilliant. I’d buy it
Best background yet!!!!

The background the food.....amazing!
Nothing beats a good Loco Moco, especially when it's made right in Hawaii! That gravy looked unreal 🤤🌺🍳
Underrated dish. We have a place where I'm at called the Big Kahuna. The loco moco they serve takes me straight to Hawaii!!
Your commitment to "one of everything" is a favorite trope of mine.
The shooting and editing always goes up several notches on the travel episodes. I love it!!
Thank's Sam. I am a massive fan of the Loco Moco. The first time I served it to my family, they fell in love. What's not to love; the fragrant rice, the ground patty, the intense gravy, and the over-easy egg. OMFG!
83rd video in a row asking, could you please make a smoked salmon pizza 😊
🙌
Having lived and cooked in Southeast Alaska for 20 years, I'm right there with you. I want Sam to make halibut enchiladas.
Not gonna lie, that looks amazing! The food too!
Haha clicked on this because I grew up in Hawaii. Figured he'd be in Maui or Oahu but turns out he's in my home town. Outside of absolutely butchering Hualalai, great video!
I also grew up in Hawaii, mainly Kihei on Maui. Howzit from an old Maui boy, too far from the islands!
YES!!!! This is one of my ABSOLUTE favorites. It is just the perfect food. Thanks Sam and the boys!
Cooking in that kitchen is gonna be gorgeous! Get it, Max and Chance!!
I've always wanted to see Hawaii, unfortunately this is a dream. But, I am tickled to see you and your boys get this opportunity. The Loco Moco was just a bonus. ❤
I'm putting that gravy recipe in my rotation. So easy and quick. Love it.
Thanks for going the extra mile and putting yourselves out to bring us these videos! Delicious
Another DOPE recipe. I’ll be making this this weekend. Thanks guys!
The og video was one of the first videos I ever watched on here , been subscribed since
The world needs to know about the Loco Moco, we love them here in Hawaii.
OMG! This looks like heaven!! Def this is on my ‘must try’ list. Thank you Sam!
I Love Sam The Cooking Guy Vids 💜✌🏻
Best cook on TH-cam hands down
Great way to start the 3 days in Hawaii! Love the way that this comes together. Can't wait to try it. 😎
Looks awesome and will be trying it. Yum
We ate traditional Loco Moco for dinner last night and it was great. Somehow I believe this one is way better..
I’m really digging the “breakfast around the world “ series !
Been waiting for this episode. What a great place to cook.
Aloha. A Bloody Mary, a bong hit, and loco moco is the best hangover cure ever. IMO.

God, ANYTHING with a "running river of egg" gets me drooling
this is killer, but honestly, super simple style is bomb too.
Love it !!!! What about some pineapple pieces in the gravy ?
That looks awesome , and the view was spectacular 🤩
Not sure if you are going to do another episode while you're there, but if so, could you do a custom Hawaiian desert? It's called Hula Pie, and it is so so so good! Completes any Hawaiian meal!
Need to see Sam's take on Oahu North Shore garlic shrimp...
Hooo brah broke da mouth 🤙🏼
For real though that looked epic.
That's definitely on my list of things to try. And speaking of trying, you should make the world's greatest sauce - monkey gland sauce. You may need to visit a South African shop for the main ingredient though.
This looks incredibly delicious!!
The char siu in the fried rice was a very nice local touch.
Love it! SAM THE REAL ESTATE GUY!
A classic Hawaiian dish and this recipe looks so good!
Wow, that really looks amazing. I'm going to try this one!
Looks awesome Sammie!!…and we love Hawaii. We have never been to the big island but looks gorgeous there, and what a cool house.
That looks delicious and the local Kona coffee would be the drink of choice to go with it. Yum.
My son in law is from Hawaii and he makes us Loco Moco every Christmas morning. Just one more thing to look forward to on Christmas.

edit again for proper Hawai'i spelling :P
@@Dakarn C'mon. That's the best you have? What about what I actually said? Phuck!
Looks Very Delicious Sam 😋🤤
That would do an amazing burger, imagine deep frying a rice patty out of that rice, and put it along with the rest of this recipe in a toasted bun 👌🏽
Wow! Can’t wait for the next!
That looks absolutely insane.
Isn’t that Japan, past Hawaii? Okay still waiting for a great breakfast Okonomiyaki!! Love seeing Hawaii, just beautiful 🤗
Fantastic View, The food looked great as well!
I love your videos Sam!! Me and the wife watch them daily ❤

I can smell that gravy cooking all the way from the Midwest.
Great location and cook Sam! - Cheers!
Love the feather boa, and the Loco Moco recipe!
I will be making this one. Love your show.
The scenery and the food looks delicious !! Love Hawaii
The dish looks great, but to heck with that, GIVE ME THAT HOUSE!

Sam is thinking: it’s a hard job, but somebody’s gotta do it! 😂
What a gorgeous getaway! I’m loving what you’re cooking and about to go make it myself. My son is going to be so excited! Please send that knife over when you get back in town. Your neighbor, Casey
The bite you took made my mouth water 🤤 Looks amazing, I don't have a smoker, but I'm trying it out anyways. Beautiful scenery to eat by 😊

love this, will have to try it...
Unreal loco moco! But the pidjin needs work brah! 🤙🏽 🤣
Saw you shopping at KTA in Kona with the fam a week or so ago... hope it was a good time. Nice content, as always.
Never heard of this before and it looks amazing. I'm so glad you made this for us and shared the recipe. You're the best Sam. Thank you and enjoy Kona 😋🤗🥰🌞
Looks idyllic, Sam. Doesn't seem too hot (or else you'd be complaining) and not plagued with insects like back home in summer 👍
Just got back from the Big Island. Stayed on the Kona side. It's amazing! The beaches, the water, Madone!
