This is one of the greatest boss fights in video game history.
Even down to the supporting lore details. Like, for example his intro cutscene shows him riding this creepy looking horse, but then you read some item descriptions and you find out that Radahn initially learned gravity sorcery as a way to lessen the burden caused to his loyal horse. Which he still manages to do despite his current bestial state. Just an absolute masterpiece of a fight. Its frustrating i know man, but just embrace it. This is what we wanted, bosses that will truly challenge us to our limits. Imagine what a Rune Level 1 run is gonna be like.

Fun fact: when Radahn was young, he grew an attachment to the horse he rides on. Eventually he grew bigger to the point where the horse wasnt able to carry him. To counter act this, he learned gravity magic so that no matter how big he got his steed would ride with him to battle. Wholesome story honestly 😭😭

This dude literally got to this boss battle, saw the swarm of NPCs gathered to fight Radahn, entered the fight, and chose to ignore the fight’s narrative of “he’s so strong, you need an army of gifted warriors.” Those summon signs are there to make the fight not easy, but “STANDARD.” Gotta give him credit, he was doing good

summoning all those characters do not "trivialize" the fight. summoning them is not even a sure way to win. you can still lose even if you summon them
the lore + gameplay + the design of the entire fight all point to the fact that the game developers expect you to summon the other characters. you don't HAVE to because, of course, you have the free will to choose, but everything about the game and the fight (even the characters' dialogue after the fight) suggests that it's not wrong/trivializing if you do use the summon signs.

Radahn is a cool character his outfit and his hair represent people he admires because they are strong. He also was given that horse as a gift and now that he has grown he learned gravity spells so he can lower his weight so he can continue riding the horse. It’s also said that Radahn or the other guy announcing created the festival since Radahn is just rotting in the inside he wants to die but he wants to die honorably in a fight since he’s a warrior.

To make it easier I think there is a YT video that talks about it as well.
Its even crazier to realize that even while insane rotten from the inside from the scarlet rot he still used his powers to hold back the stars. The man is a giga chad who which took an entire army and a god to only infect him and he killed almost the entire army and sent malenia the god to retreat after the battle. All while holding stars and astroids back
Not gonna lie, I'm glad we are having an entire arc for Elden Ring. I've been going through a burnout for a few weeks and get angry and pissed at small stuff so seeing Afro rage really helps to calm down for some reason. I thought we would not get any more content because of the FFXIV addiction but glad to see you back and enjoying the game. Souls games are not for me but I like seeing others playing it.

Not sure if other people have said this, but the emote issue is caused by motion controls being enabled (Triangle + a specific controller jiggle). Disable motion controls and that issue completely goes away.

Oh shit I didn't realize I could resummon them... Most of the time hitting phase 2 all of my summons were dead... Like at the start of phase 2 they all just stood in the middle got swiped out of existence by the comet 😅 nevertheless I beat him slinging rock boulders and dishing out getsuga tenshos #sorcerai or mage samurai 🤣

Lore wise it makes sense there's like 9 people needed to fight. Malenia acts like she's this undefeated monster but radahn genuinely was washing her. Her only reason for winning was rot. To which he face tanked it to protect his horse 😭 The absolute madlad will go to hell and back for his horse. Even in his insane, rotted stated he refuses to harm his buddy. He's probably the biggest Chad in all of souls, right there with artorias, the sif protector
The only way she could beat him was inflicting him with aids. Sane Radahn must have been a true monster indeed

Honestly it from a lore perspective it should have taken an actual armies worth of people to take him down. As he is considered the strongest person in the setting aside from like actual gods.
He is definitely one of the hardest bosses in the game though.

To imagine that in the elden ring lore this version of radahn was even weakened through Malenia and that this wasn't his prime (same with malenia, she has a prothese arm and leg and got weak asf) is just scary like imagine we had to fight their prime
malenia is at her strongest when you fight her as she literally blooms for the third time and becomes the goddess of rot.
@@lesterbailey2919 technically no, you fight the equivalent of a disabled swords master straight out of a coma and beat her to death. When she blooms, she’s not just a recent coma patient without most of her limbs, she’s also just been beaten to death. She is very much weakened compared to her prime, even if not to the same extent as Radahn.
@@reaperofthings the slumber was meant to bring her back to full strength after blooming on Radahn. And the amputations to her arm and leg were in exchange for her rot powers, the only thing that allowed her to match Radahn. Plus, her gold prosthetics were built to be better than real arms and legs.
@@chariotrequiem8547 they were not “in exchange for her rot powers” it was an Outer God who really wanted an in to the Lands Between and chose Malenia to become its champion, like Marika was for the Greater Will. Except Malenia didn’t want to do the Scarlet Rots bidding, and so it rotted away her limbs and made her unable to have physical contact with basically anyone without them contracting the Scarlet Rot, as a form of punishment for defying it and trying to “rot” away her willpower. The Miquella’s Unalloyed Gold Needle and even the Haligtree itself were made to cure Malenia and free her from that Outer God. The prosthetics are stronger than any human, but Malenia is an Empyrean. She’s meant to be stronger than any human from the start, so having limbs that match her old form in power doesn’t mean much when they can be detached easier than her original limbs would have been. And the coma was her needing to recover from the fight with Radahn. She didn’t slumber to regain her full strength, she was in a coma from the moment she bloomed, through Finlay fighting armies dragging her unconscious body to the Haligtree all the way to the moment the Tarnished steps through the door. Radahn and the aftereffects of blooming kicked her ass so hard she didn’t wake up for years, potentially decades or even centuries. So when I say that fighting Malenia is effectively jumping a crippled coma patient, that’s just me calling it how I see it.

If you don't summon for Radahn, you're doing it wrong. The whole point is that it's a FESTIVAL. You're supposed to rush him as a group.
Unlike the other bosses where the summons are meant purely as a cushion, this boss is made for using summons. You can summon about 7 at once instead of 2, and there are more of them after they die.
It was soooo painful waiting for him to summon anyone. 😂

its part of the story too. the reason you’re there is to take part in the Radahn festival, a lot of npc’s you meet earlier in the game tell you to meet them there and help take radahn out

I dont know about aaaaall the other bosses. stuff like the Scrote Boyz who gank you and resurrect each other seem designed around the summoning mechanic. They do trivialize some bosses tho

Afro honestly did better than I thought he would. He actually learned the combos and most of the time, dodged them effectively. The summons just make the fight cooler in my opinion. This is one of my favorite fights in the game just because I got to fight alongside Alexander and Blaidd against the titanic Radahn. Good luck Afro with future attempts

Depends on reason though. Some people genuinely like the challenge. I love fighting a boss for 3 hours and the satisfaction I get afterwards. I wouldn't tell someone not to use summons or how to play, but obviously it makes the fights way easier. Same reason i stopped doing co op was because it ruined the reason I play these games.
@@jadenkootenay8549 I only try to tell people to try without summons first. So often people would go in and summon before they even see the boss and never even need to bother learning the moveset or anything.
Yeah like it shouldn't matter. The game gives you the tools to play however you want to play. But some players want to challenge themselves which is fine until they shame other players for playing differently then them. That's just dumb.
You can literally summon blaidd and alexander the best npcs to fight alongside you, that's like the best feeling ever

He is literally so boss, Fromsoft had designed him to be fought with 5 summons and the ability to resummon infinitely because you'll need it

This particular fight is tuned with the idea you will use the summons in the boss arena. They are all NPC's, they can be resummoned after they die, and you can summon like 7 of them as opposed to just the normal 2.

No summons through first playthrough is the best experience.
It's really lame to see people cheese it. They can do it, but it's not as satisfying and proud to beat them with that.

The slash to observe is really good. The amount of times I've defeated bosses just by observing slightly more is countless. Anyone trying to go without summons here's a tip, getting on and off the horse by using the ring rather than jumping off gives you a ton of s. When he's about to gravity well or flying slam just start getting on your horse
For those who don't know, Radahn was mega nerfed in the most recent patch which is kinda sad. I think Afro can now beat him fairly easily.
How was he nerfed tho, I think I defeated him without summons after the patch and thought how he was easier than Margit for me. After all, he leaves openings big enough for a fully charged R2 and jump attacks so I managed to riposte him twice when I killed him.
@@reinirgi3376 The arrows used to track you more and his damage was mega nerfed, pre-patch, every hit nearly one shot you and his meteors in phase 2 was guaranteed one shot. They also nerfed some of the hitboxes to make his attacks easier to dodge, as well as making him slower (according to some people)

Afro radhan is a raid type boss. You're meant to summon. It's a "festival" for a reason. So don't feel bad. Doing him solo is basically a self imposed challenge you put on yourself not the way your meant to do it. Took me 5 hours to beat him solo don't put yourself through that

This is the boss that makes hardcore souls veterans reconsider their "no summons" stance, especially when the game gives you so many as if to say it strongly recommends you to not try to solo him.
I never got the unwillingness to summon NPC's for any boss. They are added for a reason, and sometimes have story implications.
I just avoid summoning actual players.
Radahn is basically presented as an epic raid battle, so not using the summons to fight him with the bros you meet on the journey feels like a waste. Can always solo him on my second run or whatever.

I suggest using the summons. That’s the whole point of the fight, if you listen to what Blaidd says in the dialogue. This fight requires multiple people. That’s why there are summons everywhere. You can keep summoning people too.

The summons are definitely a great help, and some would say they’re supposed to be used canonically, since the Festival is basically everyone vs Radahn. I definitely felt your rage seeping through the screen when he turned into a Meteor, don’t give up sir you got this.
@Dyl Well you could do whatever you want in the fight, but it’s heavily implied that you should use summons given the hype around him before the boss

@Dyl Incorrect. If they DIDN'T want you to use them, they wouldn't allow repeated summons mid fight, like every other boss. Or if they didn't want you to use summons at all, they wouldn't let you. Like the Evergaols, where you are not allowed to summon.
I did stumble across Blaidd early in my playthrough however. I did a quest, which added him as a summon to an Evergaol. You can be damned sure I'm going to summon my new friend, after going through an entire quest and snap emoting at him to get that summon. Sure, he made it super easy and basically soloed the boss, but that's the Canon. I also summon D for every Tibia Miner, even though the Tibia Miners are extremely easy to beat. For RP purposes.
Beat the game before watching your playthrough man and must say I'm heavily hyped for it! The fact you got shadowbringers music going during this is perfect.

This boss fight is probably the first in the franchise where youre supposed to use your own little army to battle the boss. The NPC summons are such nice canon fodder haha
Hey Afro, just a small tip for you! When you have your consumables in your inventory and hold down on the d pad you'll automatically swap to the item in the first slot. That means if you're on your blue flask and have the health flask in the first slot you can immediately get back to your health flask without wasting time cycling through your items. Just make sure your health flask is always in your first consumable slot! Up vote this so Afro reads it. Gl!

Also, remove any items you don't use often. Afro, for example, has the item for summoning another player. You don't need that sloted. You can just use it from the Multi-player menu.

I have no shame in saying that I spent 4 straight hours on this boss. I've finished the game now and it still stands as the hardest boss for me even compared to all the ending bosses.

@@georgedayton7878 yea bro coz when I fought Radahn, like senju, all I had was a blood build except I used scimitars and that compared to the late game build I used against Malenia made it so much harder. I also raged quite a bit coz it was 3am and I was losing sanity.

That move at 50% where he comes in like a comet made me rage quit for a couple days, it took me a solid 20 tries to get him to that point. After taking a couple days break and rethinking it it took another 20 ish to finish him. Starscorge redahn is no joke unless you are high level or cheat it hard.
small tip: below the pouch area are the quick emotes, getting rid of those should stop the emotes when pressing triangle
Can also just turn off motion controls for the game, not like you use them for anything else

I beat him on my 4th or 5th try. My strategy was use the NPC summons as much as possible, use your horse, and use the spell Loretta’s greatbow. He was actually one of the easier bosses for me personally.

Neither bad nor underleveled. Seriously impressive if you can get him this far by yourself; the ~7 summons are supposed to be mandatory for this fight, and you can really tell it's tuned for that.
I don't think it's mandatory, soloing him is hard but definitely doable

You have your own personal summon for the rest of the game. It is a resource to be used to help you overcome a challenge and people should not be downed for using it. Cause then where do you draw the line? Summon too op, can't use that. Moonveil too op can't use that. Night and flame too op can't use that. The souls community is probably the most toxic when it comes to gatekeeping how one plays. Not you specifically but in general. This community has somehow created this toxic mindset of shunning those who use resources because they're powerful. Like really think how barbaric that sounds. Imagine if in any other game, they ignored the meta because it was too good. That makes no sense. Monster hunter world brought immense recognition to the game and with it, elitist to the highest degree. And I despise seeing that

I personally made the decision for no summons and no moonlight, I'm samurai btw. I wouldn't tell someone that's how you have to fight the boss. But if someone asked me I'd say I took the harder path less traveled and I find fun in doing that.

He lasted longer than I thought he was going to without the summons. I got beat by this dude like 30 times before I went and got Rot Breath. After that it was easier! Press on fellow Tarnished!
I just put a Hoarfrost Stomp Ash of War on a weapon and it was so much easier fighting him

Radahn is the “by definition” boss of learning combo Enders and punishing when it it is extremely safe. Like u will notice he never attacks after certain moves and u can get one hit, two at most. I will say I beat his second phase by sheer luck cause the frames are very exact to avoid some whole combos

Not gonna lie, used the Dragon’s Rot Breath on him, his HP melts, even still, I BARELY beat him which is why I didn’t feel bad using it, Radhan is a different beast man, he is a monster that unless you’re a pro, you aren’t gonna win 1v1, he is too powerful and too fast along with no matter what level, 1 hit takes a massive chunk of your health

That's simply not true, at level 80 I fought him 1v1 and could withstand 3/4 hits with my hp bar (I think I was at 30-35 vigor)
He require a high level because lore wise, he was a chad.
I personally managed to take him out on my own, after some very angry moments that scared the shit out of my cat to the point she won't come in the room anymore while I play, but this boss is a dick. They have the summons for a reason though and dragon rot is a spell meant to be used, so however you killed the bastard congrats.

Becoming ronnie's Servent, for now while also meeting 3 others that includes the best NPC in the game, blaidd.
