It's not mentioned in either part, but without the second Lock-On Knuckles cartridge, Sonic 3 has some more glitches.
The first one is in Carnival Night, where you can get stuck in some level geometry and will have to wait out the 10-minute timer. The second one is on the file select, where if you wait 47 minutes, the drumline will get louder.

It’s so bizarre that you can get warped to a flooded Angel Island from Hidden Palace, where the water level starts dropping, the game is prone to crashing, and it often resets. And it’s even weirder that doing that turns you into a blue Knuckles called Tails which the game thinks is Sonic. I mean, how does that even happen!? It’s fascinating! I love this video.
From my observation, every single invalid character (valid ids are 00, 01, 02, 03) is Blue Knuckles. It also seems that warping to a zone is actually intended behaviour, since Mushroom Hill Zone (and probably other zones too, haven't played this game much) will send you to the Master Emerald in Hidden Palace Zone, where you can jump on an emerald to go to any special stage, which if then lost, will take you back to Mushroom Hill Zone. Going to Mushroom Hill Zone and touching the giant ring then going to Hidden Palace with Sound Test will result in you going to Mushroom Hill Zone instead of Angel Island.

Interestingly enough, he triggered "Blue Sphere Minigame" win screen. It's a minigame triggered by Sonic & Knuckles attached to any incorrect cart (like Sonic 1 but any cart that isn't s2 or s3 triggers it), and pressing A+B+C+Start.
The assets are in the s&k cart, but triggering it mid-s3&k is impressive...

Some of these are pretty hilarious.
There's a good reason almost every 2D game made these days is actually made in 3D space with actual collision detection, rather than it all being pixel based.

@@AndyGilleand from what I'm familiar with (which to be honest is out dated). Both use co-ordinate systems, and basic intersection checks to perform collisions. (yes à lot of 2d games do end up being made in 3d

Actually, that button combination seems to just return you to the title screen.
The button combinations for restarting the game (A+Start) as well as the Debug mode are intentional (not actually glitches). The things he does with Debug mode are very much not intentional. Back then it was actually quite common for Debug modes to be included in this fashion as it made it easier for the developers when designing and play testing the games. In Aladdin (the Genesis version at least) you actually see a secret message when activating debug mode. (Yes, I know this comment is ancient at this point but I'm sure I'm not the last who will see it).

Here's another glitch for you:
If you did not collect all Super Emeralds before Lava Reef Act 2, in Hidden Palace, you can jump on the emerald you haven't completed yet. Doing so and completing it will take you all the way back to Angel Island Act 1 - flooded with water.

įrøçk2mūçh I found a debug glitch in Sonic 2: Android, in Hilltop Zone, I debug'd through the lava areas, and in one area, dunno where, but the screen had that weird effect where the screen stamped it self into the background, it was pretty weird and cool, I have a video of it on my channel of you want to see it.
I was considering skipping this one because I've looked into S3K glitches before, but pretty much everything was new! Fun fact: Debug mode makes it easy to fight tons of Mecha Sonics. Just place a couple of teleporters in the area while fighting him the third time. New ones will come in to break each teleporter.
Decades later and I'm still seeing new stuff in this game.

I've never, EVER seen a glitch in a game which changes the game to a different game. Literally.
Remember, the cartridge that is inserted is the S&K one, it just so happens that another one is inserted in that. It has to run checks for whether the inserted cartridge is valid, and glitching it out may cause the S&K cartridge to skip this routine when restarting, and so it doesn't load S3&K.
Aw the nostalgia, used to watch these so much and got this recommended. The memories came flooding back.

+Zadamanim IIRC the Super form is like Sonic's (glowing yellow) while the Hyper form is also like Sonic's but with the afterimages garbled.

I'd never seen the double Mecha Sonic glitch before, and I sure as hell hadn't seen those beautiful debug mode disasters. I'm especially impressed by the Lava Reef zips you performed, though. I remember those being particularly tricky.

"Blue Knuckles Called Tails Who Plays As Sonic" needs his own name.

No boss cloning or getting Mecha Sonic in Lava Reef Zone 1 or the Escaper as they call it in Hydro City Zone 1 or Marble Garden Zone 2's Boss in Hydro City Zone 1 or Flying Battery Zone 2's boss in Carnival Night Zone or getting a glitched Two-Player HUD stuff in Carnival Night Zone or causing a massive graphical glitch in Death Egg Zone 2 which garbles up the entire game to the point that it's unplayable or the 256 stages in 2-Player's Level Menu? Etc. Etc. Etc.
Yea, if you were to list all that it'll be a long video and they probability didn't work on the console versions or collection stuff. Most of these were done in a emulator since it's easy to reload states in case the game freezes or resets but without those it'll be awhile since you most likely have to hard reset and input the codes for Debug and get back into position. Something that the Cycle-Trick and Half-Cycle does commonly heck even the Death Trick does this.
I can't help but still say that there's still more broken stuff to be found in S3&K but just how much well that is a mystery and who knows when that will get solved.
Also during the Bonus Stage clones of bosses can appear such as the Flying Battery Zone 2's boss and some other random stuff. If you manage to defeat one or a lot you'll clear Act 1 but don't get grabbed otherwise it will reset/crash the game.

Uhhh... no offense, but do you know what commas are? Reading that first paragraph kind of gave me a headache because I couldn’t tell when one glitch in the list ended and the next began. I’m very sorry if I sounded rude, as that is not my intention. I just want you to know that the first part is a bit hard to read (or it might be because I’m a grammar cop)
For the glitch at 11:36 if you beat Robotnik while he tries leaving the screen, but before the auto-scroller part happens, the game ends normally
Compared to Sonic 1 and Sonic 2, it feels like there is a lot more of the game that can be wrecked with debug mode in Sonic 3.
A game breaker that I found was in Angel Island Zone Act 2. As you mentioned, Sonic is generally not allowed access to Knuckles's paths, but they are still there. Using debug mode, you can safely access parts of KTE's path (a lot of it will be underwater), including the ending segment near the boss. But that's where the weird hits. There is a kill plane here. If you run right into it, but use debug to grab Sonic before he falls off the screen, the game will freak out, all of the color palettes will be glitchy, and the screen will vertically lock. Again, you can navigate using debug. Depending on how you do it, Sonic will change his own palette to become Tails.
If you fight the boss after you've done this, you'll find that there are TWO of them, and ending either one will unlock the results screen. Defeating both of them causes this to happen twice-over, and screw up the cut-scene for Hydrocity.

oh that debug mode was a great fun, i messed sonic 1 multiple time multiple times when i played the collection on my DS
There’s a glitch in sandopolis you missed, near the start of act 2, at the loop just before you release the ghosts, the top of the loop has no collision, if you use tails to airlift sonic into this space, you can get out of bounds, you can’t do much, zipping left drops you just before the loop, and zipping right puts you at the spring that sends you down onto the ghost capsule. This glitch even works in sonic 3 A.I.R.
Got blue Knuckles working but can't seem to do the bonus stage glitch. Tried going right but nothing happens.

The 5:43 glitch can also be done in Sonic Mania on the second act of Chemical Plant! Where there is a blue ring monitor and below a checkpoint

I found that with debug mode you can fight the two Mecha Sonic’s by triggering the final transporter and then using debug mode to move to the area for the second fight.
