Wasn't there a glitch that someone used during agdq 2014 where they quit the 1 first level somehow, and did something weird to go into the last stage? Idk. I wanna know how to do it though.
I actually know why the Baby Bowser glitch happens. He isn't actually a sprite, rather he's a background. It's the same trick they used in the first Super Mario World to make the effect where Bowser in his flying ship thing can approach the screen and move away from it. They put him in a background layer and then used lateral transformations to control his position, size, rotation, etc. I believe background Mode 7 was necessary for this, but I don't remember all of the details about the 8 different background modes, so it could have possibly been a different one. Something fun about Mode 7 however is that the transformations you can do on the backgrounds make include skewing the background and skewing makes it possible to see past the bounds of the background. In Mode 7 developers can choose what to do when this happens. The default action is for the background to repeat itself. As the developers never intended for the background to be small enough to make the repetition visible they had no reason to change that setting. Personally I would have changed it just in case a glitch happened, but in normal gameplay when you aren't specifically trying to break the game so weird stuff happens there is absolutely no scenario where you could have made Baby Bowser small enough, so it makes no difference to change it.
Ha-HA! So _that's_ what it was! I remember a lot time ago, when I was a kid, I must've did a glitch because I remember being in the sky. I didn't know what happened, but thought I discovered a hidden secret of the game until I fell into World-1 again. I tried to do it again, but I didn't know it was a glitch and I didn't even know how I did it in the first place. I couldn't find anyone else with footage of this, until today!
Kiernan Howell-MacKinley basicly it's taking too much data to load yoshi's toung since the the toung is getting bigger and bigger. why the trasformation fixes the game? Because yoshi's toung isn't possible to use during a trasformation.
There's SO many fun and game breaking glitches in the metroid/metroid prime series. I would love to see some son of a glitches on that! Fantastic video anyways!
A+Start Personally, I like the one rom hack I saw of… Oh I don't even remember which one it was but it was one of the earlier Metroid games. Anywho, apparently when the player picks up an upgrade the game doesn't actually check how many of that item they already have, since it assumes they don't have any and generally it isn't possible to backtrack to upgrade rooms. For example, getting Power Bombs via the upgrade as opposed to via refills will ignore the cap for how many Power Bombs Samus is able to carry. Now, this rom hack had an area where the player is able to backtrack to the upgrade room for Power Bombs, allowing the player to collect it multiple times. During a Let's Play, ProtonJon used this (and a whole lot of offscreen time) to get "squiggly-nine" Power Bombs. When the 10s place goes over 9 (that is, the player has over 99 of an item), it switches to hexadecimal. When it goes over F (meaning the player gets over F9 of an item), it then switches to various random glitchy symbols. Some of them look like they might be pieces of other sprite data. Quote from the Let's Play: "So I have squiggly-nine bombs left, which means this is **echoing voice** SAMUS ARAN BOMBING POWER HOUR. **voice goes back to normal** We're going to have MORE EXPLOSIONS, MORE BOMBS THAN A BOMB CAN SHAKE A BOMB AT! MICHAEL BAY WOULD BE JEALOUS!"

I always enjoy seeing these videos show up in my feed, and I'm very glad I found this channel. Thanks for all the funny glitches you show everytime! Stay awesome!
I like it a lot better when you have multiple glitches in an episode, rather than just showing the same glitch over and over again in different worlds. :) Great episode.
Wow, I seriously love the way you explain your glitches! Not only do you tell us how to do it, But why it happens from from a technical perspective. That's what blows my mind! Thank you for putting so much effort in your explaining!!
7:24 there are random glitches happening with message boxes. *On Emulator* Throwing big eggs will make every sprite invisible and stars on the background are now on the foreground. *On Console* Throwing big eggs will make message orange (no matter how many times you hit message box). *On Emulator* Throwing chicken eggs will turn every sprite invisible and background confuses and uses random sprites and palettes. *On Console* If you throw chicken eggs at the message box, they will make appear its message twice and then it gets stuck on the background as blank orange message sprite.
I appreciate the effort put into this video, great to have a nice big collection of glitches one after another :) And good job explaining most of the speedrun related glitches of course haha.
Nathaniel Dale thanks man, coming from you that means a lot. I really appreciate the work the Yoshi's island speedrun community put into this game and honestly this was one of the most fun episodes I've made of this series :) thank you
Dude... I've seen your channel before, you and dotsarecool (among others) are quickly becoming my favorite channels ever. Most channels took years to build up that way. I'm assuming it's 90% thanks to the TAS community.
This is super cool and well done. Glad to see you did all your research. There were actually a couple glitches here that I haven't seen before. Great job! :D
I remember I accidentally did a 1-1 warp in a level where there were two pipes in the air with a bouncer allowing you to enter the one on the right, but I jumped just right to get in the left one and it warped me. I was like 7 too so I was so confused lol
This was such a beautifully animated game and had such amazingly dynamics. If really deserved a full remakebso it can be made into its own game generator
That Item id with the rat and null egge explanation tho x_x (my head hurts) Love these videos though. Keep it up! I can see the much time & effort put into them - lots!

I didn't copy this comment I just put mine in thinking nobody else would put the 7:15 mark and make that joke sorry Homestunderzilla for copying your comment
I'm gonna do the whole middle section as nerdy as possible. "Now it's a race against time to touch the helicopter transformation bubble before the game crashes. If successful, the transformation resets Yoshi for the cutscene and also unloads his tongue which prevents the game from crashing. The whole level is really messed up due to the tongue overriding many values in memory. We'll eventually find a save ring, and then kamikaze in order to restart from the save ring. This completely resets all values and ends up warping somewhere in the center. In Yoshi's glitched state, if Yoshi takes damage with his tongue, it'll actually detach from his body and fly off screen. As it does so it gets longer and longer, eventually it'll start overriding ROM values, which eventually leads to a crash to prevent permanent damage"
>Get rewarded 999 lives >Get a bonus for the warp exit glitch of 1-1 counting as current level The ideas the devs came up with to pump out this game with all the bugs through nintendos quality testing is ingenious

I don't think the Underflow Glitch/Zombie Yoshi deserves to be called a minor glitch if it gives you 999 lives. It's basically the Konami Code on crack.
Pretty quality and entertaining piece of work as always, but it looks like you western folks always talk about a very limited number of games (like 30-35 in total) and most of them are games made by nintendo for nintendo consoles (at some very rare occasions it might be some sega's stuff like sonic or streets of rage), but how about going beyond that, getting out of the box and making something original and completely unexpected, like an episode about neo-geo, atari 5200/7800, sharp x68k, famicom games like Seicross, Kunio-kun series of games, bootleg fighting games from chinese pirates and so on and so forth. there're so many ideas for a very unusual and unconventional episode.
Skyk0rn when I make episodes about other kinds of games, nobody is that interested, and I'm not gonna waste my time on games that won't get watched, I try, but it's not worth the effort. That's just the way it is, plus the glitches in modern games either aren't that interesting or get patched.
One thing you glossed over when explaining the 1-1 warp glitch is that it can take you to areas other than 1-1. Basically the reason why this glitch works has to do with something called screen exits. Essentially, each 16x16 tile region of a map (which is referred to as a screen by modders) can be assigned one unique exit. It just so happens that the two example warps are close to a screen boundary, so by moving slightly before it triggers, you can be on an adjacent screen which doesn't have a warp specified. So you end up getting taken to X position 0000, Y position 0000, in level ID 00 (1-1). By using this knowledge, it's possible to warp to other areas of a level early. For example, in 2-8, when you enter the room with the spiky floor and the arrow platform, you can re-enter the pipe and jump like you mentioned to trigger the exit for the pipe above, skipping that room entirely. (There are a few other examples too, but I'm too lazy to find them right now)
I actually did the 6-8 glitch on accident! I was 11 yrs old and I was really confused. I never did it again but now I can thanks to this video. Thank you!
Thanks for the support guys, here's too 100,000 subscribers! Hope you enjoy this episode :)

"When Yoshi's tongue stretches across the screen, it eats up the games memory"
I don't know if that was an intentional eating joke but I loled
And suddenly, Yoshi's Island turns into Minecraft. Grabbing anything and placing them wherever you please.

And places them in the ROM.
MarioMadness734 // Mar734 but you can't place stuff in the rom

Did you know a new 1-1 warp was discovered to skip a boss in a challenge run
So Yoshi can crash the game by eating the universe? Man, Yoshi was seriously nerfed for Smash.

Thank you!
