Don’t hate an actor because of the role they played. Judging the actor based off the character is wrong, because they are different people. And one isn’t even real.

Especially since when Victorious was running, she was their main selling and advertising point. Let's just be honest, a lot of people tuned into episodes because of her and they DID like her songs. It just so happened that Ariana blew up so people go back, and say that she should have sang every song, which she didn't earn that privilege yet because Victoria worked for Schneider years before Ariana auditioned and they made that show for her.
Andre is the best character: think about it - NOBODY in the show ever hates him. He's the universal wiseman

I feel like everyone dislikes Tori because she's "boring and basic". But I feel like that's the whole plot. A normal teenage girl gets out into a school full of not so normal teenagers, and she's trying to fit in.
That's true but the show was supposed to be showing Tori as normal, but the producers literally made her the most talented out of all and I'm pretty sure 'normal' people are not the most talented. Also, people hate Tori's character because shes SHOWN as the most talented but the others were way more talented. I actually love Victoria but I think they could have made Tori's character a bit more interesting

Ngimingipi Robbie improved as a character ever since he stopped having Rex. He became more confident, mature, sensible, he got more outgoing, standing up for himself and even not show signs of fear and even had the guts to kiss Cat and write a song for her. Rex is hindering Robbie and his character development. Andre has anger issues and Trina is a bitch.
If I'm gonna be honest, Tori is the realistic person, Jade is the bully with a bad past, Cat is the person that is mentally unstable, Andre is the stable one, Beck is the "I'm pretty," Robbie ruins things, Trina is an egomaniac because of neglect.
Some people said that Beck is the father figure of the group
i love how everyone has an actual character but beck's just "im pretty". good. we need more male characters that are just pretty and don't do much besides that, to get even.

Times Tory has taken the initiative in helping/doing good to her friends:
-Helped Jade and Beck get back together (the first time)
-Helped Robbie get Rex back from the 12 year old boy
-When she saw Sikowitz was depressed, she did all she could to make him happy again
-Brought Rex back to life to make Robbie happy
-Didn't kiss Beck after he and Jade broke up out of respect for Jade
-Helped Andre get over Jade
-Helped Jade and Cat get their revenge on Hayley and Tara (Freak the freak out)
-Helped Trina get back into Hollywood Arts
-Didn't blab Jade out after she lied about Tori hitting her in the face (Tori took the punishment selflessly)
-Kept her promise and sung with Cat at Andre, Beck and Robbie's Tinkle Aid presentation
Etc.
Bad things Tory has done:
-Spilled cheese and kissed Cat's boyfriend
-Had a Prom at the expense of Jade art project show which she worked hard on
(Tory kissing Beck doesn't count. They were acting and it didn't mean anything. Plus Jade had it coming cuz she treated Tori badly for no reason) People use these 2-3 reasons only to attack Tori's entire character. How is that fair, especially when the other characters have done just as bad or worse.
If Tory was as selfish/boring as people say she is, why do they ALWAYS go to Tory for help? It's because they know she's always willing to help and she calls the shots. She always has a plan. Tori being a selfish person is such a fake narrative created by people who haven't paid close enough attention to the show.
Funny how there's more pros than cons. Showing this to peeps who hate Tori.
Even the Prome thing w/ Jade is debatable. Yes, I completely see where Jade's coming from, but couldn't Jade have tried to get her play rescheduled? Couldn't she have gotten her revenge on Tori in a way that didn't come off as making Jade look like a complete bitch? So really, it's one bad thing and one thing that can be argued as bad but is pretty debatable.

Edit cause I agree with most of y'all: first of all my ultimate crush was André cause he was sweet, funny and sang like an angel, but most of all he was supportive as hell.
Then there was Jade. I was like 10(? maybe when this was on air and most I could think about was "hot chick in leather fashion makes me go 0////0". Having said that BOTH Jade and Beck were toxic to each other and I can't excuse any of them. They fuelled each other.
And Tori... She was so entitled even if she had a regular talent compared to her friends. The writers did her dirty.
Summing up a bit they ALL need Therapy and the only good characters are André and sometimes Cat

Honestly this is what I've always thought! She's meant to be the "normal and relatable" one, so of course she's going to be percieved as "bland" when stood next to Cat or Jade. But it also balances out all of the chaos when you have a character like Tori.

I always consider Tori to have the “Main Character Syndrome”. I don’t know if anyone calls it this, but usually, with most main characters in shows similar to Victorious with a very dynamic, quirky cast, it’s so much easier to identify with all the side characters.
No one wants to be the main character. And I chop this up to the fact that with Tori, she’s seen as so frustrating and annoying or even boring next to Cat or Jade because you’re seeing the story through Tori’s eyes. You’re ALWAYS seeing all her flaws, mistakes, and issues. You’re seeing her silly quirks and it’s so irritating. Her mistakes end up being cringey. You want to hate her and you always wonder “Why are YOU the protagonist? Why not Jade who’s so much more interesting? She wouldn’t mess up like that or if she did, she’d be so much cooler.”
But you have to think, without Tori, characters like Jade or Kat or Robbie that are so strange wouldn’t be as entertaining. They’re only as absurd as they are because we have Tori, the normal one. The goody-two-shoes that no one wants to be because she reacts in a far more normal sense to her situation. She is inherently what the average person would be (despite her incredible talents) in the situation she’s in. And no one wants to be the Tori.
We all want to be the Edgy One, or the Chill one, or the Bubbly Airhead. I still would prefer identifying with Kat or Jade, but I know deep down that Tori is so much more relatable as a person. She’s awkward and makes mistakes, but she’s always pushing to make herself better.
The bottom line is that Tori is the Main Character. She is the protagonist in a story with far cooler characters and it’s so much easier to dismiss her or flat out hate her because compared to everyone else? She’s basic. But you have to remember: Would it really be the same without having Tori there as the standard for normalcy in a world full of weird to make that world just that much weirder?

I remember how everyone was pissed about Tori bc she made her dance and made Jade's play be canceled, but no one talked about how IN THE FKING NEXT EPISODE jade amost kills tori, because Robby had a truck in his stomach and he needed blood and Tori gave him the necessary amount of it. But thanks to Jade's jealous for not being the main she just trhew away all her blood making her give more of the safe amount making her sick and faint in the middle of the presentation. I realy never understood the hate toward Tori tbh ...

It's always so weird people bring that up as a reason to hate Tori when theres 2 really great arguments for that
1. Tori made Jade's play happen before the way Jade wanted it out of the goodness of her heart in Wok Star.
2. Even if she didn't do 1., Tori doesn't owe Jade shit. If Jade had just calmed down and tried to talk to Tori like a civil human being, like she has in Wok Star or even in Jade Dumps Beck, Tori honestly would have worked something out to have her play and PROME happen at the same time. Or have her PROME happen on a different day, or literally anything. It's not that hard to pursuade Tori into doing something honestly. The problem is that Jade was throwing a temper tantrum like an immature diva, yelling and threatening Tori, and it has been shown multiple times that Tori refuses to be a push over to Jade so she refused to cancel PROME just because Jade is screaming. Honestly the fact there are people who say Tori is a bad person for refusing to submit so easily to a bully acting like a child is extremely fucking concerning honestly. Just because Jade is upset doesnt mean Tori has to do everything she wants.

I’m torn because I shipped them too, but I loved seeing a true supportive male/female friendship that had no sexual tension or obvious endgame. (Although, the video makes a good point, idk how well a interracial teen relationship would have been received in 2010) *maybe* if it was a black girl and a white guy it would have been ok but (I hate to say it) I think Andre and Tori together would have sadly received some backlash back then.
Normally I would agree with that because it gives the characters in question more time on screen to develop unhindered by romance building plots ,but in this instance I disagree. It would have given andre more screen time to shine and he could have balanced out the more rough edges of her personality/helped her grow. It would have been a win win for both of their character growths but we missed out on it cause of race politics and the show getting cancelled.

"The Bird Scene" was honestly my favorite episode. It really brought to light an important lesson that artists need to learn and it paved the way for the goals and struggles that each of them would face in Hollywood Arts.

Tori pulls the show together; she’s the core; hence VicTORIous. She is the main catalyst of the plots and adventures and is the main one doing actions. Instead of being a blank slate for the audience to view Hollywood Arts, she has her own flaws and quirks and actions and complicated personality. I’d say she has the most complicated and interesting personality in the show because none of us can truly figure her out. She’s not a trope or stereotype like the dumb one, the awkward one, or the goth. She isn’t the cookie-cutter perfect, sweet, kind, nice-girl teen sitcom protagonist. She’s almost like.... a real person?!?!

Everyone just hates on tori coz of the bad things she did but they NEVER EVER talk about the good things she did. And everyone is talking crap about tori as if shes the only one in the show who does bad things. And the worst thing about everyone talking crap about tori with their "evidence" is literally just that small part of the the whole episode where the BIG picture is not even her own damn fault
Plus she did many good things. She got a lady to endorse Jade's play, she helped Andre with his song, she helped Beck and Made get back together, she even rejected Beck for Jade even though she liked him and despite the fact that Jade was cruel to her and never would've done the same for her.
I find it funny how the people that love to hate on tori and bring up the same “tori kissed beck” and “tori got beck fired” excuses stay mad silent when someone brings up how jade made tori give away more blood to the point where she was unable to perform

Tori kissed Beck in the first episode after Jade poured coffee on her head and humilated her. This was before she considered Jade a friend. Tori not kissing Beck in the "Plantnum" when she kissed Cat's boyfriend in an earlier episode can be seen as showing character growth and learning about how much she would hurt her friend by doing that.

Nowadays, there are rare instances of videos showing Tori on a positive light. She may not be anyone's cup of tea, but it's kind of unfair to portray her as the worst character of the entire show.
For me, Tori is the best character. There are parts that I relate with her. She's loyal, determined, hard-working and she sees the best in almost everyone.
Overall, Tori doesn't deserve the hate she was given and neither did Victoria Justice.

Tbh she isn't the worst character, she's less interesting . Jade who has daddy issues you'd wanna get to know how she likes sharp objects, pain and shit like that. Cat you'd wanna know more about her weird family issues and her mental health. Andre you'd wanna know more about his home background and why his parents aren't mentioned. Robbie you'd wanna know why he has Rex and does his family love and accept him as the quicky awkward kid or is Rex all he has as family? Did his family see him as a disappointment? Just like Andre his parents aren't mentioned only his grandma. Beck you'd wanna know why he and Jade got together and how Beck fell for someone like Jade(that's the only thing interesting about him). Trina you'd wanna know more about her neglect towards her parents and why she's the disappointment of the family and why she constantly wants attention at school.Tori's parents are present but her mom can be neglecting. Whatever background compared to all the others, Tori doesn't have a background subject I'd be interested in or wasn't already mentioned on the show. I want a episode explaining how the gang got together. I also want an episode or episodes showing how the gang was without Tori

They're relationship was surprisingly complex. I think Jade was envious cause she thought Tori had it all, was perfect,and a better match for Beck, while Tori found Jade to be hateful, rude, but admired her. I think deep down they admired each other and mostly clashed because they were both headstrong, competitive, and determined women who were usually each other's competition for roles.

one of my favorite traits of tori is the fact that she is very clever and clearly a problem-solver. not only is she multitalented and compassionate, she can also find solutions to every problem her and the gang are facing. almost in every episode, the main plot is the gang getting in trouble bc of something stupid they did, and tori deciding to find a solution and help out.
In retrospect, she isn't the worst. But when you throw a "normal" character in a unique cast like this show did, they will always be the considered the boring one. Especially because every single character upstages her in almost every aspect that makes a character rememberable.

I like Tori fine she is an alright character. She is the straight man. She is the normal reasonable one and the goofier characters bounce off of her and Tori gives her reactions. She is nice enough but she has a bit of a temper and is sometimes the butt of jokes. Not everyone can be the wacky goofball. You need some balance or the show is too crazy/ annoying. Tori is one of the most important characters without her it would be like Family Guy without Lois.

wait.. there are actually people who hate on Tori? why though? she's one of the nicer characters. I missed that whole debate. From what I've seen in these comments about it people hate her for the Beck kiss in the pilot and that she got Beck fired in a later ep. But why? Jade does those things all the time and other main characters of the show aren't innocent as well. I think it's more likely based on the Ariana Grande // Victoria Justice "scandal", where Victoria was the only one in a *cut* interview, not saying Ariana was the best singer of the cast but saying all there are good singers which seemed like a very nice gesture towards the whole main cast for me.

I agree with you. I always liked tori & Victoria Justice. every character on this show has flaws, but for some reason tori is "hated" for hers while they're just quirks for everyone else. I also think the only reason people call her untalented is because she's an alto, which is silly because you shouldn't have to be a soprano to be considered a good singer. she is very talented, with great stage presence and a powerful voice (in my opinion) as well as being able to dance, act, and play piano.
I think we all know the real reason people hate tori (no pun intended.) people have trouble separating her from her actress, which is kinda understandable since the show is based on her experience and "tori" is clearly derived from "Victoria." people hate Victoria because of rumors that she was jealous of Ariana Grande and bullied her (proven to be untrue.) since people hate Victoria and associate her so heavily with tori, they hate tori.

A lot of people tend to hate the protagonists in shows or movies because they think it’s too mainstream and would make them basic. That’s why whenever someone asks another who their favorite character is they often say it’s a deuteragonist or an obscure character who doesn’t make appearances much to seem edgy to their friends.

While not specific, her mom cheating has been heavily implied, with the dad's friend (I think his name was Gary.) One of the worst things is that she doesn't bother hiding this fact from Tori or Trina, from texting in front of Tori and giggling at whatever is written, and deleting the texts when Tori asks who it's from (She says its Gary) there are more but that's the most obvious one I remember.

Because Jade was rude to her poured coffee on her head,and humiliated her in front of everyone,also Beck said “let’s do it” (the kiss) so.Also Tori was always supportive to her friends,she even calmed down Jade when she felt down,she helped Jade and Beck get back together,she tried to help Beck get his job back,she helped Cat whenever she was sad because her favorite actress died,she also had a great friendship with Andre,she was always performing songs with him and stuff,and with Robbie,in the episode where Rex supposedly “died” they were about to leave but Tori felt bad for Robbie so she said that Rex “was alive” and that he might’ve even said something moving on,Jade and her don’t have the best relationship but she always comforts her in her times of need,Tori has her ups and downs but she’s not the worst character in the show :)

Tori is just a normal girl that got thrown in a school with creative, unique and eccentric people, and is just trying to fit in. and theres nothing wrong with that. Tori isnt perfect, she definitely has flaws and makes mistakes, but she learns her lesson and tries to redeem for not only herself, but for her friends bc she cares abt them a lot.

I’ve said this multiple times your main character (for example, Tori) need to be relatable and plain. Characters like Jade, Cat and Robbie are great side characters due to their personality. However, if you have an entire show (for example, Sam and Cat) revolving around one of them, their personality can become too much to handle. Cat especially, she was amazing In small doses on Victorious and that’s what made her such a great character. Same with Sam, she was great in small doses on ICarly, but neither one of them have the personality to carry an entire show. Because watching 24mins of Cat acting like an airhead and making dumb decisions would get annoying eventually. I think a spin-off with Andre would’ve been much more successful, maybe even a spin-off with Freddie. Their personalities are much more relatable and I could actually watch an entire 24mins of Andre and his adventure making friends and producing music.
That’s So Raven did an amazing job with this aspect. They chose Corey who had a funny yet relatable personality to carry a spin-off show and they were successful. However, if they had chosen Chelsea I don’t think it would’ve made it past one season. Her personality can become very annoying very quickly and she needed both Raven and Eddie to mellow out how irritating she can actually be sometimes. I think Tori was a great main protagonist, because even without the other characters present you can actually get through an entire episode with just Tori Vega without rolling your eyes at least once at her over exaggerated personality.
But why Carly is beloved if she is suposed to be plain like Tori?

@@Stinsation I think it boils down to how the other characters had episodes about themselves that help develop their personalities, while most episodes that involve Beck are about his relationship with Jade. The only episode that isn't the episode where he is an extra on a movie, but gets fired when Tori stands up for him towards the lead actress. I think Beck is seen a "boring" because he had different ambitions then the rest of his friends. Robbie, Cat, Jade, Tori and André either wanted to be singers/musicians or sung a lot on the show, but Beck wanted to become an actor.

From what I've seen, the bandwagon hate started when 24 Frames of Nick made a video about why Tori was the worst character. His video was actually very uneducated and took many of Tori's actions out of context, and he missed the entire point of her character and created his own biased narrative on it. I honestly think that he made this video because he knew it would get massive views and likes due to a lot of Arianators hating Victoria for being the lead of the show, thus spurring their dislike even more. People believed him and adopted his opinion as they watched the show. Plus, Jade stans also dislike Tori for her negative behavior towards Jade (even though it wasn't frequent, and when it was it was really her standing up to Jade🤷). The main problem is that everyone is taking this Nick sitcom too seriously when they look at Tori; they fail to remember that the show is mostly comedic content (conveniently so when they argue about Tori being horrible for her bad actions but will laugh at the other characters' bad actions). I personally loved all of the characters, because I knew not to scrutinize every little thing they did. If we did this, we'd dislike all the characters.

@@nm.v.2397 Yea. I didn’t really like that 24FON video because a lot of his points stemmed from flimsy evidence and he didn’t really understand the show. A lot of the “Tori is a bad character” propaganda could just be cleared up if people watched the whole episode, but then everyone watched his video and went in watching Victorious with bias and Tori Vega hate goggles, meant to capitalize on her flaws. And true, it’s a kids show, a lot of people liked it as kids. I doubt the writers actively thinking about how this would age because no ones really expecting anyone to be a grown man, critically analyzing a kids show. With that said, 24FON is kind of smart for taking that opportunity when the drama was at its peak and making a successful video and letting his narrative be heard. Is it flawed? Definitely, but he’s a TH-camr, he has to make a living off that so I bet for him, it wasn’t a bad idea, and it lead to dollar signs.
@@Stinsation Absolutely! It was obvious that the man just wanted views, so he made a vid that he knew would get him them; he took advantage of the Victoria Justice hate train. He also just made up his own narrative of Tori that people fed into and thought was valid. It honestly concerns me how he and others were so fixated on hating a character from a kids' show (he made two or three videos, ffs). I think it's fine to like or not like characters and have debates over them; but people take it too far with this show because of how out of context, biased, or nitpicky their qualms are.
@@nm.v.2397 Yes. I like his channel, but that video just missed all the good thigs Tori's done, and even said Jade had more of a heart, It's like he never watched Tori Get's Stuck. He also tried to make it seem like Toir was boring, but that isn't true, she just has a lot of character traits that make it hard to pinpoint the main thing about her. I don't think that video he made was a strong argument at all, but people blindly agreed without thinking about anything.

Tori while not my favorite, she's actually a really great character, and doesn't deserve the hate
As a victim of domestic abuse and owner of some talent (in mastering foreign languages not singing) I can recognize a fellow victim. You can't fake all the insecurities and the mannerisms that accompany chronic physical and psychological abuse and the type that was raised with it. She rarely receives love that's why she is so willing to do the other's bidding and favors even uncomfortable ones in order to gain their trust, have a reward or avoid punishment. Self doubt is a constant for people that are called names and are constantly diminished by all the people in her life. Also some of her aggressive and violent feats are a form of a defense mechanism against abuse. Victims have different coping mechanisms that vary from time to time according to the level and type of violence they reiceve from their opressors at any given moment. There are quite and peaceful times where the victim will be more cheerful and friendly and the opposite.
People don't to need to have a dark past to be helpful and kind though
@@ipiinsih3655 That's of course not my whole analysis. It requires a parallel analysis of Trina and the parents and the presentation of specific instances from the show. The biggest examples can be the Pilot where Tori is the average kid while Trina gets all the attention from their parents and they give her everything including access to whatever a prestigious private art school requires despite the fact that Trina is the untalented of the 2. The birthweek of Trina. We never see or hear about the protagonists birthday but we get the birthweek of a spoiled almost adult abuser that gets pricey gifts for a whole week. And she blatantly steals from Tori. The Keisha episode, Trina without anyone questioning it, turns Tori into her slave. The fact that Trina owns a car and Tori can't get her license because probably her parents don't want to buy her a car. (psychological abuse and some physical). Do you need more evidence?? If you only watch the birthweek episode with that in mind you will see it in another light

Tori is my favorite character
She is the most relatable, normal person of the group. If you put yourself in her shoes, you’ll find yourself reacting like her most of the time. She’s very friendly and welcoming, has a pretty good sense of style, and is very caring. She makes mistakes and owns up to them. The show would be meaningless without her since there would be no one to relate to. Kind of like on TVD, when she show got boring after Elena left
Honestly she did not own up to her mistakes, from season 1 to 3, she got worse not better. Maybe it was intentional but she is not relatable. What is the chance that your sister has a tounge infection and you perform for her instead AND KNOW THE DANCE/SONG?!? Plus, she is just annoying.

I don't see how she gets all the attention. She's the MAIN CHARACTER, she needs to have some attention, Jesus Christ. And Cat and Jade sang themselves plenty of times. Most of the episodes are Tori helping the others with their problems, almost none of them are about her. Don't say that the other characters gets nothing because it isn't true. She just sings most of the songs because that's her main talent. Jade wanted to go into film/playwriting, Cat was a triple threat, Beck was an actor, Robbie was technological, and Andre was a musician

anyone can be nice but few people have a kind heart and that's what I loved about tori. everybody hates on her but she a regular girl in a not regular school surrounded by nonregular people and it makes sense because it helps her group function. she's the one everyone goes to when they need help. I like that they pointed out she's a flawed character because that's the point she makes mistakes but she always tries to make things right. nobody hates jade because her character is mean, nobody hates Robbie because he's supposed to be the weird one that has that bad luck of breaking things. nobody hates cat cuz her character is childlike who doesn't know any better. Tori is just a girl figuring things out but that's what I like about her.

Finally, someone else who agrees Tori Vega actually has a personality and isn't just some boring bland character. I find her to actually be quite quirky, determined, stubborn, etc. She is very friend oriented, she seems like she'd do anything for them, and she's a bit humble even though everyone seems to think she is egotistical. People like to use her mistreatment of Trina sometimes as reasoning for why she is awful, but while Trina doesn't always deserve things coming to her, Trina isn't exactly a saint either. It's normal sister bickering and etc, sometimes they do things that bugs the other sister, either intentionally or unintentionally. People think Trina is a spoiled rude brat because of her home life and family, but I am not buying her needing anyone's empathy.
Exactly! She drives a lot of the plot as well, so other characters NEED to have quirky personalities so that they're all reacting in unique ways, otherwise they would be too boring. Tori has her own talents, and just because she is a go-getter does not mean she is stuck up or overconfident.
Yeah very realistic sibling relationship but there mother is awful at times. but there mother being that way and father frequently working makes Trina and Tori always have each others back when needed.
