She's honestly overhated. Sometimes annoying but her mistakes are part of a realistic character. Also, she grew a lot as a friend and person in later seasons. Oh, and Andre CANNOT be unlikeable. He's awesome
I agree, one of the best examples of her being helpful is Jade Gets Crushed when trying to do whatever it takes to help Andre out of his funk. My favorite episode of the season.

For me she's selfish and she never really adapts from her mistakes. For example she kissed jades boyfriend when she didnt even like him. Then she betrayed cat by spraying hot cheese over her then kissing her boyfriend. Again, she didnt even like him. I belive she just wants it for attention. ( no hate to victoria tho)
It was always weird how people overhated Tori but LOVED Jade. As if she wasn't insecure asf and was toxic.
Omg Jade was sooo toxic that most of the time she wasn't even funny to watch. And her bad behaviour never got repercussions, unlike Tori. People just accepted that was how she was, when in reality she would have no friends and be in a mental hospital and/or prison
Have you seen her without laughing tracks? She had been yelling at Cat without considering her feelings. She's somewhat abusive towards her. Poor Cat who had to get used to it. Her character is really tragic in general. She's like a punching bag of the show, especially for Jade.
I agree with this so much. People always love Jade so much but she’s mean for no reason and in real life she’d be an absolute bitch. Liz Gillies is beautiful and a killer vocalist but I never actually liked Jade as a character. Same with Sam from iCarly, but I like Sam more than Jade because we learn about her relatives in jail and it makes a little more sense. I thought she was funny/entertaining to watch but still didn’t like that she was so mean to Freddie for no reason.
I think as a fiction Tori's character is kind of boring, and she was made like a mary sue in the series

Tori is actually a really fun character tbh. The thing is she was written to be flawed in the beginning just like everyone else, the difference is that she cares about and acknowledges the mistakes she made and actually evolves. The other characters did worse things and they aren't demonized like Tori is. The hate she gets is so weird

A lot of the hate was just bang wagon hate. Perhaps a few people had some legimate complaints about Tori and then it turned into a hate campaign where people even lied about certain events happening in the show to make Tori look bad
The other characters do bad things and fans are like “Well it’s okay cause they’re quirky 🤪”. But since Tori is supposed to be normal, everyone holds her to a higher standard.

Tori is like every other generic main character, but she's surrounded by some crazy people, which is why I think some people downplay her role in victorious. let's be real for a moment, the show would not be the same without Tori.
Also it wouldn’t of been called Victorious if Tori wasn’t there.
yeah she made a good balance to the show, same with carly. without them the show would be just complete chaos, sam & cat tried doing that and it didn’t work out.

Not to mention, they just didn’t watch the show. If they did, they would’ve known that the reason why Tori got the spotlight was because she’s the main character (shocker) and she’s literally the only character aside from Andre that wants to pursue a career in the music industry. People were always drawn to Tori because her character radiated that “pop star” energy that Jade and Cat couldn’t give because they didn’t WANT to.
And don’t even get me STARTED on how people make her out to be the villain when Jade literally tried to kill her and Robbie’s a whole freaking creep yet gets sympathy bc he’s the “nerdy boy 🥺”
People villainize Tori and victimize Jade like they do with Gabriella and Sharpay and it’s simply because people wanna be different so bad.
I agree. But I also think it's a part of their projection. They need to justify BLATANTLY negative actions of "seemingly" others', so it will help them to undercover their own negativity.
I believe we can also think of this as a savior complex. They think excusing the negative behavior of other people puts their own image on a pedestal and think like they are saving someone from being labeled as negative when in reality negative characters are INTENTIONALLY being portrayed as negative so we know what's wrong or right. This opens up your perspective because SJWs are trying so so SO hard to not label anything as negative but can't see this is exactly why the world became what it is now because the only way to not see anything negative is by closing your eyes to that thing.
People nowadays especially on social media think as if they are the center of everyone else's universe and everyone's story is revolving around them. They need to force their own version of the story onto others because otherwise, no one will care, which is pretty normal considering how everyone is busy living their own life. It's so sad to see how people are trying to derive their basic emotional needs in a very superficial way as if hating the main character will make them special, and when everyone sees that it will conform to their "so-called" superiority.
Basically, people get mixed up between objective and subjective reality because they are not aware that as humans the stories in our minds are just a result of a pre-programmed machine. Believing that they "produced" a new reality or a new perspective to see things, (Victorious characters' stories in this case) is affirming their own specialty because if they are not special and one of a kind, then what are they? Social media and being able to reach so many people at once is playing a very big part here in my opinion. This would take so much time if I put everything in my mind here but I believe you get the point.

I never disliked Tori. I disliked Robbie early on, when he was welded to his ventriloquist dummy. As time went on, and the more they separated him from it, he became more likable. And he has my favorite line in the series: "Caterina Valentine, I am not going to sit here and listen to you talk bad about yourself! You are adorable! Any guy would be lucky as cheese to go out with you".
Robbie did get more likeable in Season 3-4. Yes Season 1 and 2 he was someone people didn't like him, but when he carried the puppet less he got more likeable.
I think the show normalized such mistakes and used laugh tracks to make it seem it's okay. For example, whenever Jade insults someone, a laugh track plays which tells little kids that it's funny to be mean to others. When André's grandmother would freak out, the laughter plays and it is just so messed up. But when Tori does something wrong, like kissing Cat's boyfriend, the track doesn't play and the audience pays extra attention. However, Cat forgave Tori but still the viewers can't forgive Tori's character.

@@kayjane2806 I watched the show when I was in my early teens and still didn't hate Tori and really detested Jade. As I grew older though, I did start to see why Jade was well liked. The reverse barely if never happens for those who dislike/hate Tori. So yeah they need to grow up.

easy to answer, arianators found a video of victoria justices trying to hype all of the cast of victorious by saying something as inocent as “we all sing” but completely switched their brains to think it was jealousy towards ariana grande when not even herself saw it this way and has always been but nothing but supportive of victoria. Then proceeded to make turn this into an awful joke that even affected victoria’s mental health. This hate make them morph victoria and her character tori which lead to a sudden massive hate towards tori vega. it was and still is ridiculous tbh.

I think there is another reason of why everyone overhated tori, and is cause of their feelings towards the actress who’s been victim of one of the worst harassment campaigns ever in internet history, just because of something she said when she was 18, you probably know at this point, the "i think we all sing" thing, which was funny but people took it way too far and started making up rumors about Victoria bullying Ariana Grande, Victoria being toxic with the rest of the cast and Victoria being the reason Victorious was cancelled, which were all turned out to be false, She and the rest of the cast even follow each other on social media and it was actually Dan Schneider who made the behind the scenes of victorious awkward, giving all of them Booze while filming, being clingy and stuff. So i feel that people back then needed to reclaim Tori’s character from goofy to annoying so it would be consistent with the hate campaign towards Victoria and even some sort of "Justification", because people started comparing her new music career to Ariana’s, who by the way was introduced into singing since she was a literal toddler, in such a poisonous way, obviously dragging Tori Vega into the competition and how Ariana could’ve outshined her. I hate to say this but I used to be one of those Ariana stans that hated Victoria justice, but I never dragged Victoria or anything, I was too smart for that, bc you know, I don’t bully people whether or not I like them. So the years passed and I found out the rumors were false and I just felt so terrible, and I also hated tori Vega back then, Victoria being part of the reason, but I never hated on tori, just like how I never hated on Victoria. Here's my two cents on the whole Tori Vega hate train. Honestly the only reason to hate Tori is because she has the same problem almost every single female lead in Dan's show had, in that she was a Mary-Sue. She was always treated as if she were more talented than everyone else, despite being no more talented than the rest. In fact she was often worst than Jade and Cat, who got sidelined in terms of their singing. But as a character? She has her Jerkass Moments, but is she really that much above everyone else when tbh every single character on the show with the exception of Cat are Jerkasses. Some of which have done just as bad as Tori. It's just they are more interesting, and out of all of the main characters Tori has the MOST episodes that go out of their way to put her through the wringer, this is more evident in the last two seasons. Not to mention the amount of times all of her friends were Jerkasses toward her, like the Game show episode! If anything, I'm surprised Zoey Brooks from Zoey101 doesn't get hated as much as Tori, when Zoey is not only the biggest Mary-Sue in all of Nick as a whole, but the worst of Dan's female leads by far. She's so much worse than Tori in every way.
Tbh I never understood ppl getting upset that Tori took the lead on most of the songs on the show. She literally the MAIN CHARACTER! The show is about her life. Of course she was take the lead in most of the songs, since she’s…you know..the lead😂😂

That’s still a valid complaint though. She could’ve still been central to the episode without getting the lead 95% of the time, and it would’ve made episodes like Tori the Zombie and Tori Goes Platinum more impactful as we would’ve seen her progression from a newbie to the performing scene (because she *is* a newbie) as she slowly worked her way into the spotlight. She’s not a bad character, but she is poorly written as far as Main Character Syndrome goes. The way they portrayed her as a performer reminds me too much of Rachel Berry.
That doesn't mean she has to steal the spotlight for everyone

I always liked Tori. Pretty much all of her worst moments I can easily chalk up to the fact that she is a teenager, and teenagers do dumb shit, like all the time. I do believe that at her core she is a good person that care about her friends. Just has some missteps, here and there. And being a character in a sitcom universe certainly doesn't help either.
I also defend her kissing beck on the first episode lol. Jade called her a dog, made her act like one, then poured coffee on her all cause she was jealous without meeting her. That's like next level bullying! I would've gotten a worse revenge but that's just me. Beck should be held accountable for all the times he flirted with other girls, and for not backing uphill own gf when other girls would disrespect their relationship.

Let me add a few things
Exhibit A: I can defend kissing Cat's boyfriend Danny with this one true statement, Danny suffered no repercussions for kissing Tori Vega. Cat might have broken up with him off screen but he was never punched in the face like Tori or ridiculed by Cat's friends for kissing Tori.
Exhibit B: Something you really should have pointed out when talking about Tori kissing Beck is that not only was Beck ok with kissing her in front of his girlfriend, but he replied to the suggestion by saying "Let's do it" then leaned in to kiss her.
Exhibit C: I'm sorry but IDC if Cat is played by Ariana Grande, she's not that good of a character compared to Tori and could have be replaced with anyone who, can sing & dances, is good looking, and most importantly pull off being dumb.
Exhibit D: I think the problem is Tori stopped being the "new girl who didn't know anything" after season one and became someone who knew enough, and the things she didn't must have been learned off screen. What I mean is in episodes like The Bird Season where she had to learn a lesson throughout the episode have been pushed aside so she can be more like her goofy friends and had to rely on their help to solve her problems instead of figuring it out on her own.

To be honest I think most of the hate comes from Ariana Grande and Elizabeth giles fans. Honestly any character I really didn't like on the show was mostly beck and cat. Originally cat was just a normal girl with a high pitched voice with a little quirks but in the end all she became was nothing but quirks. Beck honestly he had nothing really stick out for him other than looks and dealing with a mean girlfriend. I mean sure he was an actor but other than one episode he didn't really do much acting.
Funny how people find the other characters so much better and interesting than tori that they decide to focus their energy on hating on her instead of... enjoying the other characters??

I've always loved Tori and never understood why she got so much hate! She's a helpful and supportive friend. She even owns up to her mistakes.
She had a chance to be with Beck but she didn't because she knew how Jade would feel despite Jade relentlessly bullying her. Jade lacks empathy and would never do such a thing.
When it comes to singing I do agree that Jade and Cat sing better than Tori but you have to remember that Tori is the main character so of course we're going to see her in most of the scenes. I'm sure Cat and Jade sing leads too but the show isn't about them! Jade and Cat also have other talents so maybe singing isn't their priority.
Tori and Andre work really well together too. I can't picture Cat or Jade working with Andre. Do you remember that airplane episode? Cat is always getting distracted and Jade throws a lot of hissy fits. Tori has her shit together and manages time well.

Yep, I don't get the hate either. Like everyone, she made mistakes but she also made up for them. She was always there for her friends. She can be a little annoying but nothing too bad. I do agree the rest of the cast should've had more singing parts but that's not Victoria's fault.

I honestly think Dan Schneider was probably trying some different approaches on how to write characters with Victorious which is why Tori feels "out of place" or "bad" compared to Zoey or Carly. I thought it was refreshing to not have the typical "good girl" character who always apologizes at the end of an episode for her mistakes and is generally blank otherwise.

I will be blunt. They just don’t like her cause she’s the main character. I’ve seen some people who haven’t even watch the show, but they hate Tori. If Tori did all these same things but she was a side character, people wouldn’t care, or they would’ve loved her. People also fall for the editing like how a side character can say/do something mean but its funny cause there’s a laugh track. But Tori’s actions and remarks don’t get a laugh track sometimes, so people take it seriously.
They hate the main character because they said she's 'boring', 'bland' and 'worse' when in fact her behaviour is pretty realistic. Jade is worser than tori is like she has attempted murder, angry and shouts to everyone and more. Robi's puppet can compete with her as rex is a pervert, attempted murderer, rude etc. Plus hating tori is basically a 'trend' for everyone.

@@lolaa.8161 I’ve always wondered that too and I never understood either, but I think no one criticizes Miguel bc he was in the coma and they feel bad for him but that doesn’t mean he was in the right, but at least him and Sam took accountability, tory too in the later seasons. I mean don’t get me wrong Miguel’s is my favorite character of all time but that doesn’t mean I’ll agree with everything he did. As for tory, I just don’t know, maybe bc to a lot of fans she comes off as more cooler compared to Sam and Sam could just come off as this annoying pick me girl, I could be totally wrong, but that doesn’t mean that what tory does is okay. That’s why I have a love-hate relationship with all of these characters from the show.

Unpopular Opinion: Jade is an awful person, rude to practically everyone and ungrateful (remember that time Tori helped her to make her play and she didn't even say thanks) and the only reason you like her is because she has a nice style and she is good looking
I also disliked Jade. She was too mean and no charm or at least not enough. Though I liked the show less as a whole. I enjoyed the other shows and characters more than Victorious. I enjoyed Tori and Andre. Honestly kinda disliked Cat, Robbie, and Trina. Cat and Robbie were a little too weird for me. I was indifferent to Beck. I do love the songs characters like Cat and Jade had. All of the minor characters really.

I only watched the show about 2 years ago on Netflix and the only character I absolutely hated was Jade. Then in looking up stuff on the show here on TH-cam to my surprise people love Jade like she was the main character and hated Tori like she was the annoying gremlin.

the plot of victorious (at least season 1) is that tori is an ordinary girl who gets thrown into this school full of wacky people, so of course the side characters are going to stand out, thats kind of the point. its a fish out of water story, and i think tori was written in this way so young girls could project themselves onto her
Also with the kissing Cat's boyfriend thing, I recently revisited the show and rewatched the episode. When I went frame-by-frame, I discovered that Daniel made the first move to kiss Tori, therefore, she is not at fault and Daniel is to blame.
They're sitting together on the stairs and talking. They look at each other. Daniel gives Tori a "come hither, my lady," look. Then in the next frame, it is DANIEL who approaches Tori first, not the other way around. So technically DANIEL cheated on Cat by kissing his ex-girlfriend. xD

More than Tori, the one who's absurdly overhated is Victoria Justice. She made the best of a character that was, as you said, written quite blandly. It's true that she wasn't the best singer in the show, but she did have star quality and in those years Nick was trying hard to create their own Miley Cyrus, so they pushed hard to give her the spotlight. Your analysis is far too shallow and completely taken out of context. Tori and Beck kissed during a lesson, so what? Beck agreed to kiss her. Besides, this was Tori's little revenge on Jade for dumping coffee over her head before! Jade humiliated her on her first day of school in front of the whole class. It served Jade damn right that Tori took revenge, why is Tori expected to stay sweet after being treated like that? And besides, Cat kissed Beck too, in that Dale Squires-episode where they make a movie. Later, when Beck broke up with Jade and wanted to kiss Tori in a serious manner, Tori was the one who refused the kiss by saying she couldn't do that to Jade. Why is this so ignored? Why is everything good that Tori has done always ignored anyway? In another episode she helps Jade get back together with Beck, she is always there for the others. Jade, on the other hand, is in a bad mood in every episode, is constantly yelling and arguing and is always rude to anyone, even to her own boyfriend. In the other episode, she lies and claims that Tori hit her and even after Andre told Tori about Jade's lie Tori is so noble and doesn't tell the teachers, instead, she serves the punishment she got - for something she never did. Of all the characters, Tori is the most helpful and reasonable.

I didn’t hate her. However she had her moments. There were times where I was completely on Jade’s side. ☺️ Part of character development is not liking every aspect of a character … sort of like real life. ☺️
She wasn’t the most fun character, and I understand why people don’t like her for that, but the fandom treated her too much like she’s a demon or something and nitpicking over small things.
I mostly associated the excessive dislike for Tori to people's jealousy and insecurity.
Tori is a good singer, she's got a pretty face and model-like body, she's kind, and seems generally really well-liked in-universe. And thus, the jealousy.
Tori is supposed to be somewhat generic so she we can insert ourselves and live a fantasy through her. While this is usually a safe bet, it becomes a problem when a lot of people have self-hatred or insecurity for whatever reason. In addition, for a bland self insert type of character, Tori is fairly realistic personality and development wise, which makes the good and the bad hit harder.

I think the main thing with Tori is that she's kind of lacking that special quality. She's a character who is trying to find out who she is. In a world with such wild and zany characters she fell flat. Even Trina is more enjoyable imo. Tori was still trying to find her identity throughout the story, while everyone else in her universe already had one from the get go. She suffered for it.
Victoria may not have been the best vocalist (still a damn good one, tho) but she was one of, if not the best, performers on the show. She knew how to engage a crowd and looked like she was having fun. People need to stop downplaying the fact that she is talented because of more advanced vocalists on the show I.e. Ariana Grande. Plus have you heard her voice now...she sounds so good, better even.

Ok, I have a veryyyy unpopular opinion about the show. I think the reason most of the songs and musical attention was given to Tori was not just because Nickelodeon wanted Victoria Justice as their next breakout star but also because I don't think Araina and Liz wanted to sing to have many songs in this show. People butch a lot about this but y'all forget that ARAINA HERSELF said for Sam and cat, IN A SHOW WITH HER NAME ON IT, that she didn't wanna sing on the show. Liz hasn't made any major music since Victorious and is mainly focused on acting. Y'all act they were being held at gunpoint to not sing, I think they just didn't want to. And btw Cat was by season 2, one of the most beloved characters in Victorious. Even back when the show was airing, people liked her singing and character. They could've given Cat so songs later on and made a lot of money that way. Nick won't pass on that kinda money. I think Ariana just didn't wanna sing. Also people forget that both Jade and Cat don't even go to Hollywood arts FOR singing. Both of them go there because of acting, not musical arts. The only 2 characters that go for music in that show is Tori and Andre. All the others go for either acting or off camera work
