The writers tried to make Trina the worst character, but the SHEcago scene lives rent free in my head and probably will until I die. Daniella Monet did an excellent job in her role as Trina and deserves a lot more credit than she gets!

I think a big reason for why people like Jade and not Tori for doing bad things is because Jade is self aware. She knows she's a bad person and people treat her accordingly but when Tori does it it's often portrayed like she was in the right and she's still treated like she's super kind and thoughtful. She gets like a slap on the wrist at most. I think Jade doesn't get many consequences either but her being a scary social outcast feels like the trade off so it's not really the same.

Exactly. I feel like it’s also due to how their characters subvert their tropes, like tori is supposed to be the nice girl who works hard and jades supposed to be the scary bully who hates her, so when the audience sees tori being selfish and not having to try to be cast as main roles and then jade who’s bad actions are comically big (like could you imagine if she actually just murdered tori or followed through on her threats? It’s just obviously hollow because it’s Nickelodeon) and she’s shown having genuine emotions, talent, caring for cat, etc it completely changes your perspective because you’ve gone in expecting one thing and that’s what you are comparing it against

London always made fun of Bailey in The Suite Life on Deck for being "ugly" but that could just be written off as London's personality type. Another similar instance of this is Jackie with Donna in That 70s' Show. Both London and Jackie are characters that tear down other women who are attractive of what is probably jealousy but its hard not to see these characters as "average" looking characters who are played by attractive actresses.

We also need to talk about the very scary implications of how Trina is treated in the show. They use her "unlikeability" to justify some really troubling things towards her.
    1. Her parents tried to bribe her sister with a car or leaving Trina in Yerba just so Tori can take her.
    2. She was injured (due to Robbie) but the whole episode ended with them just letting it go even though at the beginning, there was proof that her harness was cut.
    3. There's an uncomfortable and sad video on the slap that implied that guys thought that she was desperate enough for attention to do sexual things.
I could go on but it also seems like maybe her attitude is a coping mechanism for how unseen she feels in her life, especially in her family.

well, tori got fired, she didn't quit, and still jade would look like the bad guy, even if you want, otherwise, jade jumped at the chance, knowing that tori wanted that chance too, and no matter if it hurts tori or not, She accepts it (tori, the same girl who helped her in more than 1 problem that she had, but jade never returned the FAVOR).
and that tori was still considerate of her, in not kissing beck, knowing that jade still has feelings for him. therefore, yes, they make jade look like the bad one, because her intentions were bad, wherever you want, jade deserved to be there, too tori, don't discredit her.

I think the reason that some people hate Tori but not Jade is truly because for whatever reason Jade's terrible actions are played for laughs, but for some other people, it's because we're supposed to see Jade as a mean character. Sometimes, it seemed like we were supposed to see her as a love-to-hate character. But they already knew she was bad upon the initial viewing, and now they are just looking back at Tori and realizing "Wait, we were supposed to like this character?" Some of the hate for Tori probably comes from the shock due to the disparity between how they viewed her then vs. now, as that gap is large, unlike it would be for Jade.

what happened to cat is what happenes to a lot of sitcom characters, i believe the term for it is flanderization which "is the process through which a single element of a character's personality, often an originally mild element, is inflated in importance over the course of a work until it becomes their primary defining characteristic"
so often ditzy characters that in s1 had airhead tendencies here and there are completely and irrevocably stupid by the end, like you wonder how they function alone type of thing it makes no sense. think eric from boy meets world or drake from drake and josh. and it goes for any characteristics, characters that had type a tendencies become absolute control freaks, it even happened to jade, where her asocial behaviour become fully antisocial and antagonistic, they will latch on to a characteristic someone has and make it so much bigger that you're like what happened to the fully 3 dimentional character from before? think of any of your favourite long running show character and you'll notice the pattern. it's not a bad thing though, because a lot of characters that are remembered fan favourites are characters that fit this, but it's interesting when you noticce it, like how much a character changes over time, you don't really see that anymore much because shows are more meant to be binged now

    @julianbigelow2794 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

Here is what I think about Cat Valentine.
She is the stereotypical ditsy red head. She is rarely seen without a smile on her face. She loves everyone and everything. She is very kind to Robbie, in particular. The other kids at Hollywood Arts, even those who Robbie considers his friends, tend to mistreat him. Cat is the exception. She is unwaveringly kind to him no matter what. She does not reciprocate his romantic interests, but she at least has the decency to let him down gently. It is not just Robbie, she shows loyalty to nearly everyone. Cat’s most consistent trait is her love for her friends. She cares about them and never wants them to get hurt. She is usually willing to help them when they ask for it. In “Driving Tori Crazy,” Cat helped Tori out with her inability to find a ride to school, helping Tori to get a ride on the party bus. In “Tori falls for Beck,” Tori gets an acting gig as a stunt double. Beck dresses as Tori and does the stunt for her. Cat helps Beck do this, altering a dress that looks exactly like Tori’s except it is in Beck’s size.
Cat clearly has an assertive side that she shows many times. When Mamaw Shapiro is rude, disrespectful and hateful toward Cat, Cat retaliates against the abuse. Cat has even called Jade out on her bad attitude a few times. Even when she is savage, she is still adorable. Cat doesn’t just stand up for herself, she stands up for others. In “Freak the Freak Out Part 1” Haley flirts with Beck and Cat informs Haley that Beck is spoken for. Cat was standing up to the homewrecker.
The writers tend to portray her as not taking criticism well. I only partially agree with that. Personally, I think that she responds well to criticism expressed in a calm, polite and respectful way. It is when people lose their patience and fly off the handle that she shuts down. Look at the episode “WIFI in the sky.” When Cat begins goofing around, Tori calmly tells Cat to stay focused. Cat responds by doing as Tori asks. Later on, when Cat starts goofing around some more, Tori flies off the handle, criticizing Cat with an angry tone. It is then that Cat perceives the criticism as vitriolic and it is too much for Cat to handle. Cat usually has the situational awareness to realize when she has done something wrong and is willing to make an effort to improve. She enlists the help of Oliver to overcome her addiction to British candy. In the episode "Three girls and a Moose,'' after Cat and Tori neglect their friends due to their obsession with Moose, they apologize to Beck, Robbie and Andre and they perform at Tinkle Aid. Jade makes no apology and, when Tori and Cat do their performance, Jade is off with Moose. That makes both Tori and Cat (but especially Cat) morally superior to Jade.
Cat frequently utters the phrase “What's supposed to mean?” when she misunderstands something that someone has said. When the offender clarifies or takes back what they said, Cat returns to her usual bubbly self as if nothing ever happened. That tells me that Cat asking the question “What’s that supposed to mean?” is her giving the benefit of the doubt to the offender, recognizing that she may have misunderstood them. Clearly, Cat gives people the benefit of the doubt.
In “One Thousand Berry Balls,” Cat wrongly believes that Robbie is going to ask her to be his date to the Cow Wow. This bothers Cat, as she does not want to go to the dance with him. When Robbie reveals that he is going to the Cow Wow with Gabriella, Cat tells Robbie, to his face, that she is happy for him. When Cat is alone, she utters a soliloquy, where she reveals personal feelings of envy over Robbie going to the Cow Wow with someone else. She admits to Jade and Beck that she has conflicting feelings, not wanting to go to the Cow Wow with Robbie, but not wanting him to go with someone else. Clearly, Cat is very conflicted. The most likely explanation for Cat experiencing these conflicting feelings is that Cat has feelings for Robbie, she knows that Robbie will love and appreciate her for all she’s worth, but at the same time, she is worried about his behavior. It is possible that she believes his perverted behavior would be problematic. Maybe she does not need a boyfriend with as many psychological problems as Robbie, because her own psychological problems are enough to deal with. This demonstrates Cat’s ability to contain emotions. While this isn’t the best attitude to have, your actions matter significantly more, in the grand scheme of things, than your thoughts.
Not only does Cat have many good qualities and few bad qualities, most of the bad qualities that she has are forgivable. Her flaws only make her cuter.

Yea the parents of the kids in the show were terrible. Tori's parents don't give a shit about Trina, Ms. Vega is cheating on her husband.
Cat's home life seems abusive, Jade's dad hates everything about Jade. We know Andre lives with his grandma.
Also Robbie cuts Trina's safety harness injuring her because she insulted his stupid puppet. Robbie using Rex says a lot of creepy things.
There's the possibility that Tori & Jade could be gay for each other. For some reason Jade let's Tori touch her and openly accepts hugs from Tori. When Jade repeatedly tells people to never touch her. In the episode where the two go on a date they say each other is pretty and both look away in a crush/feeling kinda of way.
Trina's worst qualities are her being selfish & being annoying a bit. But the treatment of Trina by the other characters was sometimes unnecessary.
Cat was someone with normal intelligence & probably Autism/Bipolar disorder in season 1. But was made completely stupid as the show went along.

Tori is probably actually the most relatable character on the show. She was a bit self-centered at times but in reality we all are. She had her ups and downs and she didn't make the best choices but at the end of the day she was still a good friend and trying her best. Plus, even if people don't like Tori the character, that's no excuse to turn around and hate Victoria Justice for it.
I really do love her voice, but Nickelodeon seriously did her dirty with some of the songs they gave her. She still sounds good in everything she sings, but her voice is so much more expressive in songs such as "Tell Me That You Love Me" and "Here's 2 Us" (both very underrated btw). I think two of the main reasons Ariana's and Liz's voices stood out against Victoria's was 1) the songs they gave them and 2) Ariana and Liz had lots of training and experience prior to the show.
The many jokes and comments made in the show were very awkward and creepy and would be taken even worse without the laugh track. I also have small issues with each of the characters I guess. They all have their flaws.
-Tori: Self-centered at times and the producers tried too hard to get us to like her. She's not an unlikable character, it was just too pushed, if that makes any sense.
-Andre: Tbh I have no problems with Andre. We stan an underrated, unproblematic king.
-Jade: Jade, Jade, Jade. The only things that really annoyed me about her was that she overreacted and was a control freak on multiple occasions, especially when it came to Beck and her relationship. (read Beck's description for a little more detail) In Season 1 she was just the "dark", sassy, somewhat antagonist. Throughout the rest of the show she does grow closer to the friendgroup, but did some seriously messed up things (suggested violence on other characters, and there was that one episode where she was the understudy to Tori in a play and tried to get Tori hurt/etc)
-Cat: I liked her in the first season. She came off as just a slightly airheaded, ditzy, bubbly teenager. In the later seasons though, she really started to annoy me at times. I found myself questioning if she could even do basic tasks such as cooking something, driving a car, or taking a test without making it into a big joke. I mean, in season 2, she tried to lick a laser beam.
-Robbie (+ Rex): They were so creepy. Robbie was suggested to have s3xually a$$aulted Cat (the running pirates joke thing) and made very uncomfortable comments in general towards the females in the show. Rex was supposed to have a kind of "Jade" personality but came across as creepy and predatory. And we can't forget that one time when he "pushed Robbie" into messing with Trina's harness and could've seriously injured her. They were annoying, creepy, and didn't appeal to me at all.
-Beck: Would've loved to hear him sing more. He was only there to be the "hot one" and Jade's boyfriend. At times he seemed so oblivious to Jade's feelings to the point where it was like he didn't even like her (along with not bothering to stop girls from flirting with him while he was in a relationship).
-Trina: She seriously had so much potential and they threw it away. I understand completely that there has to be some kind of comedic relief but I would've loved to hear her actually sing or be more than the stupid, annoying one.
All in all, the whole show/the rumors circling around it was just so toxic and not that great of an environment for anyone. Is it nostalgic? Of course. Are there lots of good parts? Yes, definitely. Is it creepy nowadays? Yes.

Here is what I think about Andre.
Andre frequently helps his friends with their problems. For example, in “Jade Dumps Beck,” Trina wants Robbie to write a good review of her one woman show. Robbie cannot do that, as he dislikes the show to the point of deeming it laughable. Andre gives Robbie amazing advice on how to handle the situation. In “A Chrustmas Tori,” Andre catches the cricket, in Beck’s trailer, that has been keeping Beck awake for weeks. There are many story lines where Tori needs to sing a song and Andre helps her by playing an instrument, backing vocals or even helping her write the song. This happens in “The Birthweek Song.” I will bet that most of us would love to have a friend like Andre. Andre’s crowning achievement in the morality department would probably be his willingness to drop everything to take care of his mentally hilarious grandma.
Andre appears to be everyone’s friend. In “The Worst Couple” Beck discovers that Tori invited Andre, Robbie and Cat over to her house and did not invite Beck, because Beck would have insisted on Jade coming. When Beck makes a statement that even their friends don’t want to hang out with them, Jade says that Tori isn’t her friend, no one likes Trina, she only tolerates Robbie and Cat is basically a pet. I don’t know what that last one means. Notice that she did not mention Andre. Andre must be Jade’s friend. In “Car, Rain and Fire” Trina spreads a rumor that Beck asked her out. Beck, Andre and Robbie concoct a plan to put Trina in her place. Part of this plan involves Beck tricking Trina into thinking that he likes her, which he actually doesn’t. When Andre also feigns interest in Trina, it is obvious by Trina’s reaction that Trina does not have a romantic interest in Andre, because she likes Beck, but she at least considers Andre her friend; not like the way she feels about Robbie. Andre’s relationship with Cat is interesting. He is constantly both confused and fascinated by her behavior.
One notable instance where Andre had an opportunity to do something bad, but did not, was when he had a crush on Jade but did not tell Jade or Beck about it. He told Tori. Him having feelings for Jade was in no way any sort of injustice. You cannot help it if you have feelings that don’t make sense. A real man can suppress his urges. In that regard, Andre Harris is a real man. When he had these feelings and knew that acting on them would be unethical, he sought help from Tori. By doing this, he was expressing his emotions in an appropriate place at the appropriate time. Furthermore, Andre has a great deal of patience. His grandma has a lot of sporadic tendencies, which get on Andre’s nerves, but he still deals with her out of love. That makes Andre a role model, in my view.
Andre does have some bad qualities though. For example, he pretends to like Hope Quincy just to get close to her father. In the end it turns out that Shawn Quincy would have been willing to get close to Andre, even if Andre hadn’t gotten romantically involved with Hope. Andre has some mild anger issues.

They apparently respect and showed admiration for each other talent, they perform a lot of songs that both created, and I assumed she would grow up her first-atraction from Beck and after Andre and Toro would fall in love to each other. And I still thought that would be amazing at so many leves, Andre teached Tori about music, breaking the love triangle when the girl chose the funny guy that has been her friend for a while instead of the mysterious guy, they support each other and accept each other family (Andre's Grandmother and Trina), etc etc

i think people don't criticise jade as much for her bad actions as tori because it's part of her character. (Just like being childish is part of cat's personality.) Jade is this mean character, she has this special characteristic and we like her for that. Tori on the other hand doesn't really have a special characteristic, she's just normal.
So when a character "cool and always mean" character does something mean, obviously we think it's just part of their character and think it's fine. If a character with no personality does something mean, it's more clearly seen as mean, because it comes from a neural character.

Also I was always bothered by the outfits the girls were wearing. Like Cat would be wearing an extremely short dress that you just barely see shorts/underwear? underneath. Definitely not something you could wear in high school at all. ESPECIALLY the outfits the girls wore to sing Andre’s Christmas song.

Here is my assessment of Sikowitz.
In season 1 episode 2, “The Bird Scene” he hits Cat in the face with a ball. He throws that same ball at Tori to get her attention, which makes no sense as Tori points out. While this was definitely unethical, this is the only episode where he does this, so I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he realized how wrong he was and turned over a new leaf.
Sikowitz was involved in the ping pong scam. However, while the kids wanted to do something incredibly dishonest and break the law, so they could eat at a fancy restaurant, Sikowitz was trying to save Mr. Ikner's job. Sikowitz's motives are far more respectable than those of the kids. Not to mention, he was initially reluctant to, even mentioning the fact that what the kids were doing would run the risk of getting in legal trouble. That is what makes this decision of his an ethically questionable decision at worst.
Sikowitz is a cool hippie teacher. He makes it a point to teach his students important life lessons. He tells it like it is. Yes, he strikes the proper balance between a firm strict teacher and a cool laid back dude. When the little girl who lives next door to him constantly harasses him, he calls the cops on her and gets her sent to juvie. Despite the girl’s mother pleading him to drop the charges, he refuses. Without consequences, a person never learns their lesson for their behavior. In “Tori Gets Stuck,” when Jade tries to screw Tori over, so that Tori can’t act in a play and Jade can play Steam Boat Suzie, Sikiowitz, despite knowing that Jade is qualified for the role, refuses to reward Jade’s bad behavior. If he lets Jade have the lead role, he will instill in her the idea that messing with Tori will result in good things for her. An everyman hero like Sikiowitz cannot allow that.
Sikowitz’s crowning achievement in the morality department was definitely in “Locked Up part 2,” when the entire gang is wrongfully incarcerated in Serbian prison by the tyrannical Chancellor and Sikowitz escapes, avoids being imprisoned, disguises himself as a guard and concocts a brilliant plan to help the kids escape.

Jade -> Bipolar, severe personality swings from over confident and seemingly indestructible to depressed angry and insecure, speaking loudly, risky or impulsive, easily irritated, restless
Trina -> narcissistic personality disorder, over confident, craves fame or adoration, obsessed with physical appearance, entitlement, envies the people around her
Tori -> Borderline personality disorder, ever changing view of self, unstable relationships, self destructive behaviors (like kissing kats boyfriend for example), fears abandonment
Beck -> idk why but in my brain he kinda shows signs of imposter syndrome or an eating disorder
Andre -> autism, i also don't know why this fits so well in my brain but it does, i think his special interest would be piano, he's often one of the ones whose performances are more toned down and that could be because he gets overwhelmed, doesn't pick up as well on social cues or in identifying his own emotions (the episode with his girlfriend, when he's evaluating whether jade likes him or not vice versa)

Your explanation of Cat was so perfect and, wow, I think Cat had ADHD. I have ADHD and it is SO easy for other people to think you're just a ditzy weirdo because your brain work differently. Sometimes life is more enjoyable when you lean into those expectations and play them up to amuse your friends, especially when you're a teenager (I did that). People don't take you seriously, so then you don't either. That could explain the shift in character... but that could also be giving the writers too much credit

  • @michellejoy1921

I think what the show suffered from vs other shows for pre/teens is that the setting was literally a competitive talent school, so there was no hiding behind an “average girl” lead who’s just there to be pretty and saved. I think shows like TVD got away with having a similar lead because we were hardly ever comparing the talents side by side. The formula would be main girl doing her own thing against the villain, versus the rest of the cast having their own battles to assist her. I.e, Bonnie was incredibly useful in TVD’s plot, but it was always Elena’s show to be the relatable hero. In the case of Victorious, there was no escaping the comparisons because of the premise. It was enticing to watch Andre, Cat, or Jade perform because you understood why they were at this competitive school. Nevertheless, them constantly helping Tori in the plot only made them seem “more talented” which is not what you want if we’re meant to root for Tori. They were written to learn from Tori and give up things for her, but Tori would’ve been so much better off learning from them and that being showcased in the plot. It didn’t matter how outlandish Cat’s or Jade’s character were as comedic relief, because those snippets of their short performances made you want to see what else they had to offer, only to never be paid off because Tori had to lead every vocal lol

The difference between Tori and Jade ,while they both have done questionable things, is that Jade always gets somehow "punished" by the end of the episode when she's done something mean. Tori on the other hand, even when doing things just as mean or questionable they always get overlooked and she's always forgiven if not rewarded for behaving like that

She "sabotaged" Jade on the sleepover at sikowitz's episode by purposefuly giving her a character completely opposite to her and flirted with beck very obviously to make her break character. And there are many more examples where tori was not held accountable for her actions. @@BabyGirlTiny those are not exaples of what i can remember from watching victorious as a kid. I have rewatched the show many times one of them being recently. I never said that jade got kicked out of the sleepover because of tori, i just pointed out that the rest of the characters gave each other tasks randomly funny and tori picked out for jade a sweet character that never gets upset very intentionally to make it hard for her. And then also very intentionally was close to beck and annoyed jade by stuffing her mouth with cereal because she knew jade couldn't do anything about it. It isn't just a comparison between tori and jade, rewatching the show you will find many exaples especially smaller ones is side stories in each episode where the rest of the characters get taught some kind of lesson by not getting what they want and it's no big deal but that rarely happens for tori and when it does everyone is very upset about it. Personally, I really dislike the hypocrisy of the fandom, I mean if Tori does something bad, she's the worst, but when she's jade, she's "iconic".
yes, jade is aware that what she is doing is wrong, but that is not an excuse, or she tries to miss the fact that jade has done worse.
Although, the worst thing Tori did was kiss someone else's boyfriend.
Jade had, like, 3 attempted homicides, and no one acknowledges them.
In addition, Jade most of the time does not pay the consequences, on the other hand, Tori does not pay them, but she does try to redeem herself for her bad actions, such as the kiss with Cat's boyfriend, Andre's music, Beck being fired, etc. .
in each one I try to improve and amend their mistakes, instead jade, not even an apology was given, for which, it feels too hypocritical that they hate tori, and idolize jade, and more, that they try to justify each of their own to jade unjustifiable actions.

I may have more to say later, after I properly finish the video, but I wanted to say that a lot of people hate on Tori (*the character) for things that were...actually the adults' fault. As a kid or even a teenager (I was about the same age as the main cast when this show first aired) you kind of don't realize how much the adults influence the characters actions until later.
I watched a review recently where someone pointed out how messed up the episode was where Tori was in charge of Trina and the parents just skipped out on helping their oldest daughter recover from oral surgery because they don't like her. And the show really downplays it and passes it off as humor, but what Tori did with Trina...may not be admirable...but it is something a teenager might do not realizing they're participating in parental abuse. In real life, emotionally abusive parents often "recruit" other family members to participate in the abuse of their children. A lot of times, what they will do is cause "triangulation" by picking an obvious favorite (Tori) and treating both kids very differently behind closed doors, causing rivalry and resentment between them. Tori resents Trina because she's left with the responsibility of basically parenting her older sister because their actual parents don't want to- and at times, don't even seem to want to parent Tori. Trina would, in turn, resent Tori because Tori (knowingly or not) participates in her mistreatment and is more favored by their parents. Likewise, the whole "prome" thing? Why would Sikowitz even suggest scheduling the prom over an event that had already been pre-scheduled well ahead of time? It wasn't Tori's fault no one was keeping a proper calendar, and to expect a teenager to show enough emotional maturity to just give up the only day they get to have something important to them is expecting a lot. I don't even think Tori and Jade were friends at this point, and it does matter to me (somewhat) that Tori wasn't intentionally scheduling over Jade's performance. This wasn't petty revenge or jealousy. Sikowitz just gave her that ultimatum and he was the one in the wrong for that imo.

    Post 1: characters
Two characters i feel bad for are Sinjin and Trina.
Sinjin can be weird and was creepy one time, but I do not think he deserved every character yelling at him or treating him badly.
Same with Trina. No one is nice to this girl. She can be annoying at times and makes mistakes, but does she deserved to be humiliated, isolated, and disrespected by her own parents? No. Also, the “nobody likes you” comment all the time made me feel sad for her.
I am also surprised that she didn’t change her major or whatever to being a stunt double. The story was getting there, but they completely forgot about it.
I feel they should have made harder acting challenges to make Tori seem less dumb. Improv, mirror exercises, etc. are pretty self explanatory.
Tori does strive to help her friends even if they don’t in return which I can respect.
I have a love hate relationship with Jade. Her friendship with Cat is adorable. They may argue and have some toxicity, but they love each other and will stand up for each other.
Robbie is creepy. Ok, if they took Rex out of the picture, would Robbie still be that toxic or would he think things through and not be misogynistic.
I still like him though because he does have his nice qualities.

    Post 2: ships
Some ships are pretty toxic like beck and jade.
I am glad they acknowledged that some relationships weren’t healthy. The funny part is they were mostly Andre’s like him using a girl because her dad is a producer and the one who couldn’t stop making out with him like he was ron Weasley and she was Lavender Brown.
    Onto ships I like:
Beck and Tori: Do I even need to explain why I like this one?
Andre and Jade: i felt the one episode where a potential ship was in the works showed she did not need to dial it up or be jealous all of the time. They can chill and make music together and it is fine. I felt they could balance each other out.
Cat and Robbie: i know I shouldn’t ship them but I cannot help it. They are cute together. They enjoy each other’s company and will stand up for the other one if someone is being mean to them.
Sinjin and Trina: not a typical ship but after that episode where he helped Trina increase her followers and stood up for her as well as himself, I actually liked the idea of the two together.

Every time this show comes up, people have the same opinion about Victoria Justice in comparison to her costars. She simply is not on the level of talent that Liz Gillies, Ariana Grande, Leon Thomas, etc are. Then people come out of the woodworks to defend her and say she can sing/act pretty well. No one is saying she’s completely untalented but it’s really hard to buy that she is the most talented and most destined for stardom when the previously mentioned actors are all Broadway trained. Hell, they all have gone on to have wildly successful careers and no one is surprised because their potential has always been very clear. I have a weird relationship with Victorious because I was in a weird place as a teen when it was airing. But looking back, I still feel the same. If the show had been about a group of really talented kids at a performing arts school and wasn’t focused on one main character (and if Dan Schneider wasn’t involved at all) then it wouldn’t have left such a sour taste in everyone’s mouths 10 years later.
