It's always a good idea to unplug the car battery, wait 20 - 30 minutes and only then perform any repairs/changes, this reduces the risk of accidental airbag deployment :)
Yes very true but nothing on the headliner powers the airbags. It would first blow out a fuse for the lights but that’s bout it. Unless you purposely stab the airbags or their power supply.
thx for this diy... looking to replace headliner in mk6 golf 4d w/sunroof. the mk5 option 1K4-867-502-A-6K8 is significantly less $ than the mk6 5K4-867-502-A-6K8. it seems that the geometry is identical. are there any differences in material or quality?
Very impressive video! Do you ever pad or tape any wires behind the roof liner to eliminate rattles? My mk6 has a rattle that seems to be coming from the roof liner behind the driver seat…
I didn’t but if you have a a sunroof might be one of the hoses to route the water out to the back. Would be something I would check if you ever do the headliner. And clean out the hoses cause they get clogged.
@@NarBrosGarage Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated. I don't have a sunroof, but my 2014 mk6 does have a hose under the headliner to spray windshield wiper fluid on the rear window. I suspect that (or the electrical cable for roof light) is what's rattling.
Just replaced my headliner and everything was going just fine until the reinstall when i managed to severe the cable for the interior lighting just at the same point where you've joined your cable could you give me any tips on how to rejoin these wires just like you have ..
Yes strip back the plastic only exposing the copper, then soder some small wires to both ends and tape it. And that’s it, ps: use a lighter to expose the copper out those plastic lines/ or a new Gillette. Hope it helps
I would love too but I just make videos on my own cars. Sometimes friends but I’m working full time again. That why the videos have slowed down too. But I will make a video on how to check for leaks since one of my cars taking I water. But you do have to remove the headliner.
@ trust me I have one I know and it’s a pain in the ass just to change the driver side mirror turn signal it’s easier to just put on a whole new mirror from a junk yard than it was changing the bulb strip 🙄😫 I was watching this cus my vinyl inside is falling I got so mad I just ripped it out and I think I’ll just paint the top inside now black or something
@@Scooter3194they have paint on headliner which is what ima do to my mk6 since it’s getting saggy. Main cause it’s hit summer days and not having the windows a little open. It melts the glue.
You literally skipped about an hour of installing it which has let me down abit 🤦🏼 we are half way back in though it’s shot to put back in I’ll tell you that
What won’t go in ? If all the pillars are removed then just put the liner back and start putting the handles first one at a time. And just do the removal process in reverse. Let me know if you need help.

Mk6 are more available . And nope seems like the same material to me. And same fit.

Mk6/5 lights are both European version of them. Best bet will be a used set on eBay but I got mine back in the day on vortex from a fs post

Yup.
Just make sure it’s for the same amount of doors. Meaning if gti 2 and 4 door version.
