Iain De Caestecker (Fitz) turned out to be an absolute powerhouse of an actor in this show. He was good in the first season, but really takes it to another level when Fitz gets damaged. Now he's fixed-broken Fitz on a mission. And this is not even his final form. He just keeps elevating his performance.
Yes!! Watching him develop Fitz (& yes the scruff changed his look dramatically) - so much talent.

Remember back in episode 9 of season 1, the ghost guy protecting his "girlfriend" episode? In that we go through the whole intake process of meeting and taking in people with "powers", (the welcome wagon i think they called it) and Coulson says to Daisy (back then Sky) that he wants her to follow the process carefully, because he thinks she "could be really good at it someday". That day is here. I love this show and its character development.

This is the season where Agents of Shield really came into its own. You can tell that the main cast has become comfortable in their skin as these characters and are willing to go much deeper in the acting. The writing is incredible. The special effects are pretty good for a television show. You are really going to enjoy season 3 a lot. When you get to the point where you're really impressed with the season and you think the storytelling has gotten to an amazing point, just remember that everybody is telling you that season 4 is their favorite season so it gets even better lol. You've got a lot to look forward to and I'm looking forward to watching your reactions
I agree. For me, the first two seasons are the weakest.

Her theme is in multiple points in season 2. The first we hear it is her transformation. We hear it when she uses her powers on the sink faucet at the Retreat. We hear it like you pointed out, when she says "Daisy Johnson" for the first time. We hear it when she and Jiaying are training for the first time and she causes an avalanche. We hear it when she pushes the quinjet into the ocean.
As an added fact, with extremely light spoilers in mind, the very last time we hear "Skye's theme" is when she hugs Cal right before he gets locked up, unless I'm forgetting an example later in the show. @@dondumitru7093
And I dont blame you for not noticing, or maybe you did, but didnt say anything, but the President in this episode was the same actor/president as in the one in Iron man 3. Just another example of this show and its creators seamlessly weaving in things that tie into and expand the larger MCU, even without acknowledment or respect from the movie side.
My favorite thing about AOS is how well paced the story is. Season one is slow so we can understand the characters, the relationships between them, and their goals within SHIELD. Then they slap you in the face with Simmons and Skye almost dying, Coulson getting kidnapped and tortured, and Ward betraying the team for Hydra and Garrett. From then on each episode is packed full of emotion and stakes and creativity for each character and the plot as a whole. We start off this episode with a new inhuman, a mystery government woman, the cliffhanger of Simmons’ disappearance, and questions about Bobbi and Hunter. By the end of the episode, these are all addressed. The new inhuman is Joey and he melts metal; the govt woman is Rosalind; Simmons was transported through the monolith to space(?); and Bobbi and Hunter are together but still recovering from the trauma of Ward torturing Bobbi.
Loki S2 has been driving me crazy bc they are constantly saying “we’re running out of time” and it takes them 4 episodes to kidnap Timely while characters are having convos that are mostly just dramatic pauses.

The beard yes, but also his wardrobe changed and became more worn-field-clothes and less I-am-a-nerd. And he got stylish sunglasses. And his demeanor kicked back in the cab.

I think this is around the point in the show where it becomes obvious just how much the writers are willing to really let these characters grow. A lot of series have an unfortunate tendency to keep their characters quite static and be nervous about letting them get too far from their starting point so it's really satisfying to see the whole cast go through huge changes on a regular basis that become a part of who they are for the rest of the series - I love the boldness of it. I think one of the writer's greatest strengths is their ability to balance an openness towards fundamental changes with the skill to make those changes feel like part of a natural progression
Yeah! I mean I love Avatar the last Airbender but man Agents of Shield has the best character development of any show I have ever seen. The way the characters slowly change and yet at the core stay completely the same. Like there are decisions season 3 Fitz makes that are in exact opposition to decisions he made in season 2 but these two opposite decisions come from the exact same core values and exact same opinion he has always held, it’s just new and different experiences that cause him to make a completely different decision, while remaining the exact same character. Fitz was just an example but they do this with every single one of the characters constantly.
It’s always so fun to me to go back and watch season 1 and see what the characters used to be like and how different they are now and yet how similar. 😌

They really need to take this back into the MCU and start making more shows like this. They have a plan to stop the 6 episode series which is good, so maybe more like this in the future
@@JustGavinBennett I can only hope, although to be fair, when i watched Agents of Shield i do think they got more freedom in exploring original storyline and in turn got better writing and storylines after getting further away from the MCU canon so im glad in a way. It just sucks that some fans of the MCU just chalk this show as 'not canon' and thus a 'bad show' without really giving a chance back when this was airing :D
@@JustGavinBennett Yeah the news about them changing stuff in the TV department and doing actual pilots, having show bibles and show runners instead of creating 6 hour movies with movie executives. Why they didn't do that in the first place, and instead scrapped the whole Marvel tv department and didn't use all the talent there, like the people who made this awesome show, we'll never know (it was hubris and ego on Feige and Marvel Studios part).

And we finally got here, this when AoS unofficially left the MCU, the moment when Joss Whedon left MArvel Studios and Feige took control was when the movie side left to share information with the tv section and forbid to bigger guns to appear in the series (Jeremy Renner, I think, told sometime he wanted to show up in AoS but he couldn't).
About this episode,, we begin other perfect season with no fillers and no plots dragged at nauseam (yes, I'm looking at you... so many shows).
I always loved just how much the writers loved reinventing the show with each season. Which was in stark contrast to certain other comicbook TV shows of its era; where you could watch random episodes from three or four different seasons and genuinely think they were all from the same year.
What a great episode, but not just a great episode, but a great season premier (the best one in my opinion). This is actually one of my favorite episodes period, it just does so much in one episodes that other shows spend like a couple of episode or half a season doing. Like for example: 1. You meet this mysterious new group that’s hunting inhuman 2. You learn that they are evil, and carving out their chests 3. Our heroes capture/meet with this new badguy and talks too them 4. She reveals that they are not evil and not the ones doing these things against the inhumans. She thought that Coulson was doing it, but in fact, they are on the same side. 5. It is revealed who is in fact doing it, and it’s this blue monster dude. 6. Our heroes fight this new bad guy who was the one doing the chest thing all alone. All of this in the first episode. All of this, could have easily been spaced out over a couple of episodes, if not half a season. And some of these points could have been big twists later in the season, especially the fact that it wasn’t this group who was killing inhuman, but this weird, hairy sonic, but no its all in the premiere. That’s why I love this show.
Another things that were great, were the opening and closing scenes.
That’s true, a current marvel show would put all that in 6 episodes and then it’d be over lmfao. Damn why is this just so much better ahhh Marvel & Disney need to step it up in 2024
Because back than Marvel Studios had a TV defision and let experienced showrunners and writers run the show. Now they make 5 hour chopped apart movies which doesn't work on a tv scale@@JustGavinBennett
@@betaich For Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen this was their wirst job as showrunners, there was a third showrunner but I can't remember the name. For several writers of the show, AoS is one of the few credits they have.
What I mean is that no that many of them were veterans, so reason why the series is this good is somewhere else.
Maurissa was co execute producer before on the series DAnceLIfe since the execuitve titles are more politics than anything else she ran this series she also was prdoucer on various other shows just not for their entire run @@ibrahimramos9730
I also feel like it makes it more realistic too because in reality a lot of things in life actually do go quite fast. It makes it feel more real that they are constantly dealt new information and are constantly having to change their opinion. It also makes it feel more like there are other things going on in their world outside of them, which makes the world feel more three dimensional.
S3 is where the show really truly gets going

It sure is. They're crazy to throw this out the window. They should use this as the core of MCU progress. The show that ties everything together, so to speak.

@@JustGavinBennett Yeah an Agent of Sword show, in this style with longer seasons, each year, either a spin off or spiritual successor of this show, would be perfect. It could tie the various shows and movies together, and be kinda like our throughline through these new phases, since we don't have the Avengers movies to do that any more and God knows the MCU needs it right now.
Edit: Loki is kinda doing it, and thank God for that, but still a bit to little and a bit to late, and a 6 episode Loki can't carry and do all that on its own.

Agents of Shield was show run by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen who both wrote for Dollhouse.
Marvel Studios needs good TV showrunners and to train a new batch
Yay finally, ahh! I know season 1 and 2 are good but the seasons from here on out are the reason Agents of Shield is my favourite live action show. And you are so right this show is the master of changing every season while still saying the same. They refresh and adapt. I love how each season basically has its own vibe and completely different feel, focus, themes and message.
Also Im so happy we’re finally here, I’ve been trying so hard to remember to call Daisy Skye in the comments. So now we don’t have to worry about it. Iain/Fitz being amazing! Daisy being Badass! Simmons lost is some weird place!

*_I get what you are saying about Secret Invasion and how it should have been more like this show... Which makes it even more painful to know that Secret Invasion actually had worked on plans to bring Chloe Bennett back as Quake, along with other inhumans, on Secret Invasion and that they even had gone as far as shoot all her scenes but then changed the story (Originally, Daisy & the inhumans were going to be introduced as Fury’s “New Avengers” team, a new team of hero’s that would be more secret than the Avengers, and would have been the ones fighting and defeating the Super Skrull at the end of the series; but even after having film that end battle, somebody changed the story, scrapped the inhumans and decided G’iah would also be one a Super Skrull and win the final fight... What a dumb mistake!); I’m pretty sure that Fury’s phone call at the end of the second to last episode, ending on “Let’s finish this” was filmed as intended to be to Daisy to bring the team down from the space station (Which makes more sense than it did when it ended up being to G’iah)... Such a shame they didn’t leave the inhumans in Secret Invasion_*

That guy in Lost with the eyelashes (Nestor Carbonell, I think) doesn't actually wear anything to give him that eyeliner look. Actually the makeup artists on Lost tried to lighten his eyeliner cause his lashes were so thick and luscious. I don't know why I remember this kind of shit.

You bringing up Secret Invasion is me 😂 It was very dissapointing, especially compared to Agents of Shield
The Inhumans called the stone that encases Inhumans before they transform a chrysalis so non-Inhumans wouldn't get encased. The processes of the fish eating the dissolved crystals must have separated the alien metal that stoned regular humans.
Darn. I was hoping you kept up with the 2 episode arc format. I think you should get back on that format so you end each season with 2 episodes but I don't want to list reasons that might unintentionally reveal spoilers.
Most drops will be two episodes, but I think two drops each season will be a single episode, probably the season opener and IIRC the episode after the mid-season finale.
That just gives him a little more breathing room doing the production. Because Editing Is Hard Work.
Definitely agree with your Secret Invasion criticism. They should have gotten the writers for this show involved because they would have done it justice. AoS did the Hydra story justice and that should have been the blueprint for Secret Invasion... There wasn't enough intrigue or mystery and the Skrulls never quite felt like a "real" threat compared to Hydra and their infiltration in all levels of SHIELD and the government. They fumbled that one so much.

There were many behind the scenes problems with S3, which you probably won't notice watching it now opposed to when it premiered. It is one of my least favorite seasons, but next episode is one of my Top 20 AOS episodes of all time. I'll fill you in on the behind the scenes drama as we go 👍😎

I haven't gone to see a Marvel movie in theaters in a while. Last one was Shang Chi. I think I'm going to go support this one because I really liked Ms Marvel and just like the Thor franchise, it deserves a chance to change things up.

It’s the subtitles that enlarge. If I didn’t magnify them like that I’d get a lot more copyright strikes for some reason and it also helps other people read the subs when I talk (because I can still hear it clearly, but you wouldn’t be able to)
