Its funny, when Coulson killed Ward, he inadvertently gave the creature the body it needed to escape Maveth and return to Earth. If Coulson had listened to Fitz and just left him there, the creature would have remained trapped on Maveth. Revenge always comes at a cost.

One of the many great things about AOS, it doesn't waste a scene. Every member of the SHIELD team played a part in the episode (Colson, Fitz, Simmons, Daisy, May, Bobby, Hunter, Mack, Lincoln, Joey).

Great reaction. Small peak behind the scenes for this: originally Will was meant to be the body that the Inhuman posessed but the actor had drug issues so they pivoted to bring Brett Dalton back as a different character after Ward's death.

The continued use of Brett Dalton for the role has the added benefit of making Grant Ward seem a supernaturally frustrating enemy. The team had already defeated Ward twice before Coulson murdered him and left his body on an alien planet, and here “he” is again, like a revenant.

The music in the slow-motion reunion scene at the end is one moment that led to me prefering the AoS theme over the Avengers theme. I love how the writers of AoS play the long game with their storytelling. Like how they took half a season just to explain the notches that had been "carved" into the Monolith. It could have just been a big lump of rock but somebody in the writers room decided that, for its first appearance in 2x19 "Scars" it should have perfectly square holes cut into it. One can't help wondering if they knew at the end of season two that they were going to reveal that the heads of Hydra were all going to be in possession of lumps of the monolith, or did they just do it to make the monolith look more intriguing, with the intention of figuring out what the holes meant later on? However it came about... I love it.

Speaking of "Maveth", which means death. Back in the first episode, Fitz got a scroll that said what the purpose of the stone was or what it was, and it said Maveth. Fitz believed that it meant death, but the scroll was actually talking about Maveth the planet, which the stone is of course a portal too.

Being a huge fan of AOS since the beginning, it was inevitable to discover the behind the scenes drama of S3. The actor who played Will had a substance abuse problem, and was supposed to be there until finale of the season. His firing caused massive rewrites, and led to a lot of unhappy cast and crew due to the changes. Good news is: all the drama and studio crap leads to one of the greatest seasons of TV ever: S4 👍😎

The Russian was actually a quick fix from the drama of S3 & the chaos behind the scenes with possible spin-offs and cancelation. Remember the the leader of the Watchdogs was Agent Blake, who never returns to the show after his upcoming appearance. AOS is my favorite show, but they fumbled big time for not getting actor who plays Blake back to tie up that arc, which would have had more punch than the new Russian character.

You are right that Ward is dead. But the Inhuman...you'll be really surprised at how different he seems from Ward, even though the same actor is playing him. I really give credit to Brett Dalton this season to how he played those two characters, plus for making Grant into such a good villain (I'd rival him to Loki at this point; one of the best villains that Marvel created imo). I hate Ward's guts, but kudos to the writers for making us feel sympathy and root for him despite him basically being evil now.

Coulson, Fitz, Mack, and Daisy all jumped into the containment module while the machine was still on and the portal was still open. While they were piling in Mack gave the signal to blow the compound, so they started to lift off by the time the missiles hit the building. Then in the short time after they lift off and before the building is destroyed enough, the possessed Grant was able to jump through the portal.

The exact number of minutes and seconds from the events on the planet, to the heroes returning thru the portal and getting to the containment module, are intentionally vague - in the editing it deliberately looks like a very short period of time, but movement of the heroes retreating is completely off-screen so the timeline can be anything.

That’s one of my favourite things about this show (though I feel like everything ends up being my favourite thing 😅) I love the way the show has midseason finales and is basically two different stories that are linked together. It feels like I get to watch two different season in one. In a way I kind of imagine it as being 12 seasons father than 7 haha.
But in terms of the normal format that’s why I kind of imagine season 6 and 7 to be one season as they are both about the size of a midseason finale.

Top tier editing in this one Gavin, i loved a lot of your jokes too. A great reaction too, to an awesome midseason finale. I really like this one. And even if you are very good at guessing the twists in this show, the show always manage to get you some other way, in that ward brought the creature through, not Will (Will was originally supposed to do it, but there was some trouble with the actor so they got Ward to do it instead, which I actually think was for the better, because I love Brett Dalton (Wards actor) so more of him, is alwasy great in mu book. And im so glad you noticed the music, its called "Crossing into Darkness" I believe, and I also love it. So good, I used to listen to it randomly sometimes before, Bear Mcreary (the composer) is so good. Finally it's time to talk about Grant Ward, as Raina before him, I think most of people didn't get one of the main features of the character (in Raina's case was she always told the truth, maybe not all, but every word was honest) this characteristic of Ward, the main one if you ask me, is the loyalty, Ward's loyalty is his greatest virtue and his biggest sin.
In the first season he was loyal to Garret, who found him in a very vulnerable moment, when he died he tried to transfer this loyalty to Coulse and Skye, and after being rejected by both of them first he has this attempt of romance with Kara, two very damaged people, loyal only to each other, and when she die he pretends to be the leader of the new Hydra, but just see how easily he becomes a Malick's follower, it's like the weight of the leadership was too much for him. Because that's the truth about Ward, he's a soldier, the best you can find if you accept him.
And one last point, I don't think Ward was irredimible, we've seen too many redemption arcs to believe that, the moment his redemption was completely smashed was when Simmons tried to kill him, but before that Coulson and Skye's rejections were the turning points for the character to be a villain to the end, because the main characters won't forgive him.

"What about rubber bullets?" Rubber bullets are real bullets encased in rubber. And they can still kill when used the wrong way. Police using them for crowd control are supposed to shoot them at the ground Infront of targets so they bounce up and hit the crowd in the shins; hitting the ground first takes away most of their force so they are no longer lethal. However, when police deliberately aim at the heads of people in the crowd, they can be lethal, or in many cases blind people.
