Saturday and Sunday concerts both followed by parties thrown by a dedicated group of PH fans, the Palers. Many are musicians themselves and played a variety of tunes from the PH songbook. The group was kind enough to show up and sit in with them for a few songs. Everyone had a memorable experience.
Hard to believe this song is 54 years old. I saw in the comments, that most people stated they preferred the original. I prefer this version. It's simply stunning. The orchestra adds a rich flavor to it. You need to listen to the original too; it's amazing also.
Absolutely. This song reminds me of my daddy. He absolutely loves this song. I was born in 65, so he and my momma taught me about great music. I'm named after the Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons song, my mother loved the song. My daddy wanted me to be named Rhonda after the Beach Boys song, but my momma won out. 😂
Couldn't agree more. His voice has that lived-in, deeper, raspy around the edges tone that just plays better with this song than it did when he was in his 20s. And there's no auto tune being used here, either. Gary is the real deal.
Procol Harum is Latin for "beyond these things". I was 12 when this dropped in '67. This one of the greatest Live performances ever recorded. They all on point. Gary's voice grabs your Soul! Gary is like a wine. He's pure talent.
It does my heart good to see you younger people appreciate a good song in 1967, and now a great song in 2006. Gary just got so much better the older he got. Very nice reaction.
That is Gary Brooker the lead singer. This was released in 1967. He was 61 at this concert. He co-wrote this huge hit.His voice seemed to get stronger as he aged like mellow wine. I'm the same age as him and it was a #1 song when I was 22. Oh, I love him and his band which is Procol Harum. Sadly, he died in February of this year from cancer. RIP Gary Brooker.
