Hi name is Gary Brooker, lead singer for the band Procol Harum. He passed away on 19 Feb 2022. This song sold more that 10 Million copies. To date there have only been 42 singles to ever sell more than 10 Million copies. Also, it has been covered by more that 1,000 Artist that we know of.

Saturday and Sunday concerts both followed by parties thrown by a dedicated group of PH fans, the Palers. Many are musicians themselves and played a variety of tunes from the PH songbook. The group was kind enough to show up and sit in with them for a few songs. Everyone had a memorable experience.

I saw Procol Harum live in Edmonton Canada in 1971 with the Edmonton Symphony. The played Conquistador and I'll never forget it. I'm 68

Gary Brooker, the lead singer of the group Procol Harum died this past February at the age of 76. He was 60 for this performance. The orchestra is the Danish National Orchestra. This boosted this song into the realm of angelic. RIP Gary Brooker.

Thank you for this reaction. Gary Brooker is a fantastic singer. Keith Reid wrote the lyrics. Other songs of theirs performed at this concert include "Conquistador" and "A Salty Dog". I highly recommend them. Thanks again.

Great additional verse not sung in this version...
"She said, 'I'm home on shore leave,'
though in truth we were at sea
so I took her by the looking glass
    and forced her to agree
saying, 'You must be the mermaid
who took Neptune for a ride.'
But she smiled at me so sadly
    that my anger straightway died......"

Please do Conquistador, another Procol Harum hit from the 60s. I was only a little kid when my parents used to play this stuff. I'm so blessed to have been around to experience the immense variety of great music

In 1985 on the 300th anniversary of the birth of J.S. Bach, Procol Harum admitted that the melody was lifted from the master. That's why it sounds so good.
