Gary Brooker (the lead singer) lead one of the best bands of the 1960s. He wasn't just a great leader for the band, but a true gentleman too. RIP Gary, you will be sadly missed.
The magic is they were all incredible musicians, and it shows whether there is an orchestra in the picture or not. They were all so incredible. We had no idea how about their level of genius... it was such a great time listening and enjoying their concerts and music. Talent beyond words.
i was so distraught when i heard he passed away. so creative, and with such a magnificent voice. this performance was in 2015, i think? that's almost 50 years since the song was first released, and just 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯 to him! strong, powerful, and clear. no sign of strain at all, even with those high notes. i'm so sorry you lost your friend, may his memory be a blessing.
Remember hearing this for the first time when I was in High School (class of '70) and I was hooked. So glad I got to listen to some of the greatest rock music ever. Hopefully the younger generation watching these reaction videos will appreciate the music from back then. RIP Gary Booker
RIP beautiful man. I was 9/10 when this came out. It was the first 45rpm I ever bought. I’m a Londoner and I was lucky enough to see Procul Harum when I was about 11, at the Empire Pool Wembley. Magical. Gary you’re so missed.❤
You're right. This is absolutely mind-blowing. To think this song came out in 1967 & actually sold an astonishing 10 million copies, it's totally unheard of. If you wanna know how to do a live performance, this is it. Totally out of this world! 🌎
GOOSEBUMPS. THE POWER OF REAL, AUTHENTIC MUSIC. NO TECH ENHANCEMENTS. THIS IS MAYBE ONE OF THE GREATEST LIVE VERSIONS OF A SONG, EVER.....AND REMEMBER, THIS IS A SONG FROM THE SIXTIES. THE SIXTIES!!!!!!AND GARY'S VOICE HAS NOT LOST A BEAT IN 50 YEARS...
Great reaction, we enjoyed your surprise when Mr. Gary Booker started singing. He could sing fantisticly at his age. Thank you for appreciating our music in our day. MEMORIES! RIP Mr Booker you are still appreciated and remembered.🎶🎤👩🦳🫶🙏
I am 76 years old and still enjoy “pop” music. I was born and raised in Canada so British rock groups were always played here. At that time high school was 5 years. So at 19 I graduated in 1967 the year this was released. I still have to say this was my all time favorite even after all this time.
Veli, this is what your grandparents probably listened to when they were young, I know I'm a great grandparent and this is what I was listening to as a teenager! Isn't it just wonderful!
I loved your reaction to this masterpiece. The late great Gary Brooker was 61 in this performance. He was 22 in 1967, when he and Procol Harum first released this hit. As Gary got older, his voice got better. This was the finest performance you wil ever hear or see of this great hit.
Briliant record never tire of listening to it, liked when it first came out back in the 60, but this recording made it ten times better, and i do appreciate you didn’t interrupt the video while it was playing like a lot of others do while reacting to these old songs, you kept your comments to the song till the end like you should do, cheers KTF.
Always puts a massive smile on my face to see young people discovering the music I grew up on. I've heard many orchestral arrangements of this song, but this one is by far the best IMO, and that oboe in the intro is heartbreakingly gorgeous. And Gary's voice, like a fine wine, just kept getting better with age.
I loved Whiter Shade of Pale back in the sixties….but, full disclosure, I cannot say that I like this classical version. Hey, back in the day we were rock and rollers! Nobody would be caught dead at a concert like that for super straight people taking themselves so seriously, and I think it’s lost a lot with all the pomposity. My best memories of the song is being totally lost in London in 1969, knowing no one and having no friends and waking up alone in some bedsit at 4 am thinking I just wanted to go back to California when out of the dark I heard this song, “Whiter Shade of Pale” so loud as if it were right next to me. The next day, I went to Italy. Returned to London and lived there ten years happily ever after.
I just love the sincerity on your face while listening! That’s the magic and beauty of music, knowing no borders, religion, politics, race, … with all the best regards from Europe, Austria, Vienna, so far far away but feeling as well 😉❤️
The last couple of bars will seem strange to outsiders not familiar with Danish culture. But they demonstrate how a piece of music needs to end to be acceptable by an audience with average age around 80 or more. It helps to know and be able to pronounce the expression "rødkål med fløde".
The music alone is something special. Very original, it’s something someone showed me how to play as a youngster, I was probably 14 years old. It stuck with me because I loved that song, the soulful way the chords ebb and flow, the way they progress towards the pivot and then sours so soulful towards the climax in this song. You don’t really care what it’s about. I read an interview where he was asked what it is about. He talked about being at a party and writing this song of what he observed and heard in conversation at that gig they performed at. I imagine those people were very well healed and the miller being an outsider got by on his wits and being able to spin a good yarn. The girl who talked about leaving for the coast was drinking on an empty stomach, turned pale then passed out, his descriptions are very poetic reflections and make idealistic compliments of the excesses of the upper class lifestyle. Well this song was very popular as I remember, it played on the radio regularly, that chord progression is perfect for the organ, just outstanding the way it glides to poetically, it’s beautiful, an absolute original composition even though the chords in it are in a million songs before and after.
Thank you for checking this out. When I first heard this as a child I was already moved and astonished. The song has just grown on me over the years, and this version takes it to another level entirely.
Did you notice during the last chorus - he played a bum note which he acknowledged by raising his hand?? So glad you enjoyed this. This version is better than the original IMO. Amazing.
It's entirely subjective, but when People says "such and such is the greatest liver performance ever," I always say, "Ok, but why is it better than White Shade of Pale in Denmark?" Gary Brooker was one of the most underrated voices of his generation. An absolute legend, and sorely missed.
My favourite band of all time and so well supported by orchestra and choir in this performance. I promise you there are so many great songs by Procol Harum to discover maybe Grand Hotel or A Salty Dog might be of interest to you as suggestions. Always pleased to see someone enjoy this epic performance.
Heya Veli - Petra from Germany here 🇩🇪 the one who brought you to Dimash ☀️ there's a new one : Dimash singing the PEARLFISHERS ARIA together with Placido Domingo - one of the most famous tenors in Opera and Dimash 's idol since he was a kid. It's so beautiful and you can hear Dimash singing full on opera. You will love it ☀️ All the best Petra
Watch the video of the original. I loved that but I think his voice has truly gotten better! Which is unusual. Have you reacted to Queen? Bohemian Rhapsody is a must! And Hotel California by the Eagles. Enjoy! OMG, there are so many great ones!
Just came across your Channel. Can see this performance was tapet in Denmark 🇩🇰 at one of a castle concert during summer. Remember this song from my teens in the sixties. Great performance. The Danish radio symphonies orchestra is great
I’ve come to realize that this song is an allegory for the Bible. The waiter is Jesus turning water into wine, the ceiling is breaking through the firmament and reaching nirvana, the truth is right in front of you, we have eyes that we do not see, always keep loyal in your lamps to be a bride of Christ and so on. I don’t know if the younger gang realizes how many of these songs were about God and Jesus. Beautifully beautifully done. I loved your reaction.
I just found your channel and subscribed immediately! I’m a 72 year old lady who grew up listening to all this fabulous music. I would really love to see you react to an old country song called “Crazy” by Patsy Cline from the 60’s. She was my mother’s favorite and I know you will appreciate her voice. Thanks 💜👵🏼✌🏼
A masterpiece for sure🤘❤️
I love see a older man showing young people this is how its done
Absolutely!!!❤❤❤
As an old white guy, I love that you love it....
Gary Brooker (the lead singer) lead one of the best bands of the 1960s. He wasn't just a great leader for the band, but a true gentleman too. RIP Gary, you will be sadly missed.
This is music for the heart and soul !
Music is one of the main factors in the advancement of the human march throughout history.
The magic is they were all incredible musicians, and it shows whether there is an orchestra in the picture or not. They were all so incredible. We had no idea how about their level of genius... it was such a great time listening and enjoying their concerts and music. Talent beyond words.
Rip gary❤❤
Gary was a friend of mine. RIP brother.n
What a blessing!
He was incredible
My 22yr old daughter knows every word to this song!!! I raised her right!!! Rip Gary.😔 😢 💔
Sorry for your loss. His music was and still is epic!
i was so distraught when i heard he passed away. so creative, and with such a magnificent voice. this performance was in 2015, i think? that's almost 50 years since the song was first released, and just 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯 to him! strong, powerful, and clear. no sign of strain at all, even with those high notes. i'm so sorry you lost your friend, may his memory be a blessing.
Sensational performance 👍

Still brings the chills!

He passed away in 2022 from cancer. RIP
Remember hearing this for the first time when I was in High School (class of '70) and I was hooked. So glad I got to listen to some of the greatest rock music ever. Hopefully the younger generation watching these reaction videos will appreciate the music from back then. RIP Gary Booker

What a privilege it must have been to be there to witness this amazing performance 🙏🇬🇧
Simply the greatest rock song live performance of all time.
Ah, yes. The lady showing us what oboes are for. Just beautiful. Then Gary cuts loose and we have real magic.
RIP beautiful man. I was 9/10 when this came out. It was the first 45rpm I ever bought. I’m a Londoner and I was lucky enough to see Procul Harum when I was about 11, at the Empire Pool Wembley. Magical. Gary you’re so missed.❤

Watch the 1960s video of the original group singing this and see what the 60s were like.

Great reaction - your joy was overwhelming. Brilliant version, Gary Brooker outstanding, what a man.
Veli, this is what your grandparents probably listened to when they were young, I know I'm a great grandparent and this is what I was listening to as a teenager! Isn't it just wonderful!
I’ve forgotten how strong and soulful his voice was! Amazing!
Yes, he took a lot from Ray Charles.
Rolling Stone consider this song as one the best ever recorded
John Lennon
Your Awesome Dude!
I am old. It gives me so much joy to share this music with your generation!!!

We lost Gary last year😢but this performance is even better than when he sang it in 1967
What a masterpiece! Wow . I loved this song in the late 60s, even more so now ❤🔥🔥Wonderful reaction btw
Love your enthusiasm.
Beautiful song selection.

A classic song. great version of it as well. I grew up with this as a child, and it still gives me goosebumps.
My Brother, Loved your reaction to a wonderful performance....... Peace from Minneapolis
I just love the sincerity on your face while listening! That’s the magic and beauty of music, knowing no borders, religion, politics, race, … with all the best regards from Europe, Austria, Vienna, so far far away but feeling as well 😉❤️
You’ll never know like I do what it was like to live in that era. However, just enjoy the moment and the eras music. Be well.
@CarolineLambert-si6dd I agree, Caroline, I lived through that era too, as a teenager and in my young 20s, best era for music absolutely.

Superbe alchimie instrumentale merci pour ton analyse le passé musical ne nous a pas tout montré

Thanks for that. I just thought it was a Cool gesture !!

So many memories of my cute girlfriend. We loved this song. RIP Gary, we miss you.
Thank You!! For your Experience!! ❤
You are so welcome!🤗
A lot of people slate 'Prog Rock'. Have a look at Jethro Tull, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, etc...
Watch the video of the original. I loved that but I think his voice has truly gotten better! Which is unusual. Have you reacted to Queen? Bohemian Rhapsody is a must! And Hotel California by the Eagles. Enjoy! OMG, there are so many great ones!
Absolutely loved your reaction! You did it right,.
Thank you so much!!

Watch "The Good The Bad and the Ugly" by the Danish Orchestra. It will blow your mind. It's from the movie of the same name.
I do remember it
Great reaction

Thanks!
Thanks 😊 your support to the channel is highly appreciated 🤯😻
Have you watched the orchestra version of "the good, bad, and ugly" theme song? ( or have you watched the movie? ) if not, you really should.
i think a copy of the original would be better - younger voices - so classic
