Actually the alpine is a nice car but i think id take the m3. But here is something, i don’t hate estates, i actually love them, but to me the alpina is just not for me.
With the new grille STILL not going well with me, I’d take an M340i touring, or even better, the ALPINA. Oh and, the ALPINA would be much more comfortable daily than the M3, based on M’s typical suspension & springs. Lovely B3 though!
only BM', may be. but Audi RS6 and RSQ7 exists. Also Range Rover is a perfect all around. Best of four worlds; performance, elegant, confortable, spacious, any terrain.
@@Xayuap Range Rovers are quite big and wide but also notorious for being money pits. However they are sublime to drive. Having once driven a diesel v8 twin turbo vogue fully kitted with all additional extras it changed my mind on them lol. So so quick and smooth
I don't understand why people say that with the M3's frontend ALPINA sales are going wild, why would they? People who want an ALPINA will buy one and people who want an M3 will buy one. The ALPINA has been available for many generations and now the M3 ADDS and option. This is basic understanding of how a market works, and I don't know how people are so confused with that. The M3 will NOT add customers to ALPINA as this customer group existed BEFORE!
@@tobias_k01 Well I always knew about how great Alpina is and yet I picked M cars over it. However, I would likely take the Alpina over the new M3 Touring... except i would change those turbos for the same amount of power as an M3 (or more). It’s not as clear cut as you state due to this generation’s design and weight gain although I understand your perspective and reasoning.
2 children and a dog means I have driven 3 series touring for the past 15 years. I currently have a 330i which does pretty much everything I need it to, but if I had the money I'd definitely upgrade to the B3. To my eyes it's pretty much the perfect car. Nice review as always from Rory.

Always been on the lookout for something different, with great power, comfort and ability, whilst also having the conflicting qualities of being quirky yet completely solid and reliable. All of which is quite a big ask! The Alpina B3 might just be the answer, and so brilliantly presented to us by Rory and the AutoTrader team.
B3 is so much better car than standard M3 this generation + it looks so so much better, BMW sells so much M3 nowadays they made them worse than they could be just so they can introduce M3 comp later, M3 comp should be the regular M3, it's stupid that B3 which is supposed to be luxury 3 Series ends up being quicker than regular M3, if you spec M3 interior decently + get fancy alloy wheels you are basically only 3-4 grand apart from getting a B3, it's easy choise between B3 and M3, B3 is so much better, it's like when E9X D3 Bi-Turbo was only 1 grand more expensive than E9X 320d 😂😂, you had to be nuts to get the BMW instead of Alpina

BMW will make an M3 Touring (finally!) but M and Alpina have very different approaches to making fast BMW's. M cars are agressive and ready to be driven at 10/10ths, possibly on track. Alpinas are supposed to be the ultimate road (Autobahn) cars. Hence the more discrete looks, the preference for low-end torque rather than high power at high rpm, softer damping and the lack of a speed limiter. This car is made to be fun around corners, sure, but its main purpose is to be driven north of 150 mph on the Autobahn in comfort.

So maybe any of the Elise Cups or Exige Cups or even the Lotus Evora GT (only being made for the US domestic market.) It would be a real treat to see the Three Eleven though, I tell you!

Alpina's have always looked awesome. They are something that those who know Alpina really appreciate. Dont think they are under appreciated, just not that many know about them.
Looks are subjective to say "we" deserve wouldn't be proper because that only implies the majority of the masses look down on the new M3/M4 grill..if you don't already know looks are TRULY a subjective thing many are in love with the grill and many are turned off

Great review Rory. Really think BMW are starting to lose their way. They need to focus on their core features rather than looking at what the competition is doing.

Lovely review! Normally you don't see modified car reviews on this kind of channels. It's awesome. AutoTrader with Rory has surpassed Carwow for me AND is on par with Autogefühl. However this channel more fun where Autogefühl is more informative. I love it.
