    a sail boat like EV is far more than just fiberglass sails and rigging, she is like rideing a big orka, free as the wind to roam vast distances, but we as riders are finacialy bound to paying bills so sadly most of us will remain chained to our land based responsibilites, ev is an escape for those of us that never will, by funding ev no matter how little we can keep her in deep water where she belongs,

      @sailingEV888 there is no protection out at the reef. You can anchor either inside boot key harbor , or just outside. I am inside just inside the bridge to nowhere on a mooring ball. If you want to go out to the Sombrero reef, they have free mooring balls you can pick up for the day.

    • @jeffreyalberson9742

      @sailingEV888 also boot key has some pretty cool mangroves to explore by dink, you can also take your dink to Sombrero Beach. If you need any supplies while you are here let me know, I have a car and can run you to go get what you need, we have anything from food, westmarine, to homedepot here.

    Do you know how many amp-hours you are cycling each day? Charging your drone, cameras, computer and editing must be taking alot of juice?

    • @sailingEV888
      @sailingEV888  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It takes more than you would think. I'm looking at my MPPT display screen now. I've used 129.6 Amp hrs today. It's 5pm. The voltage is 13.2 I ran my desktop computer from 430am until 1pm. I also charged Gopro batteries and my DJI mini 3 pro 3 port charger all day. I also charged my phone 40% of the time. And a battery bank usb. I have 600 watts of solar with a 100 ah lithium ion battery plus a 220 ah deep cycle engine battery (separated with an isolator) mist of your solar power comes after 1pm. Till 3pm. Sometimes, you can change the rudder angle to point the panels in the right direction with the tide. Take this into consideration when you anchor. I keep an anchor light all night and my fridge/freezer and end up around 12.6 volts by sunrise. I power off the inverter while sleeping and use a power bank to charge my phone to keep my anchor pro app live. Waking up in the middle of the night and glancing at my anchor pro app to KNOW I'm holding fast let's me sleep. As soon as your system collapses due to errors. Corrosion bad ground. All the systems crash, and you're now old school out on the reef at anchor, and it can get stressful. Maintain your system. Try it out with sea trials and daily life. You will be fine. At the end of the day, assume it will fail and be ready to not see your chart plotter not to have a phone charger. Be ready and place it safe and have backups..

      @@sailingEV888 hey thank you so much for the response. I'm looking at 360w flexible solar and 100ah lithium battery.
      I will have a fridge/freezer and a watermaker as my biggest power draws. I won't be running a pc or charging a drone so I might be in the right ballpark. Calling dakota soon to get a whole system at the same time with a long warranty. Not that it would help much out at sea, but we can reduce power almost to nothing save navigation. We purchased a mechanical windvane to avoid needing power there. Thanks again for the reply and fair winds brother!
