    I remember seeing a video quite a while back regarding the tremendous value of having your own moisture meter when boat shopping. You can thoroughly check for moisture problems BEFORE you spend hundreds and hundreds on a survey, only to find out the boat has big water problems. You said you looked at like 50 boats. Imagine you really liked maybe 5 or 6 and paid for surveys. You would be out probably $4k before you found the one you would buy. Spending a few hundred to save a few thousand should be an easy decision. BTW, i just discovered your channel a few days ago and I'm binge watching as much as I can. Yours is one of the few that feels REAL. You sail, you talk about sailing and sailboats, and you sail some more! You do your repairs, solve problems, and even make the occasional mistake, all on camera. That's the only reason to follow a sailing channel. If I wanted to watch bikini clad women frolic at a tropical beach there are plenty of places online to find it. No, I want to watch a real sailor SAIL. (Sorry for the long comment.)

    Always enjoy your videos because of your brutal honesty. I'd be fun to meet up and there are times when your situation is so bad that I briefly think to myself "should I fly over and help?". Haha, anyway, we sailed from Isla to Rio Dulce, Guatemala last week and it was awe-inspiring to say the least. Spent 30+ hours in 25-35kts of wind and the sea was roaring. Glad I made it so I can watch your down to earth documentation of your sailing life. Take care buddy!

    I just had to sell my boat before I could start sailing or living aboard it. I still have the dream of cruising down the ICW and then on to the Bahamas, but it's gotta be on hold for a while. Thanks for keeping up the dream.

      Thanks mate that means everything. I can't help but look at bigger newer safer more well equipped sailing vessels. I must have one! I live this life at sea. I want to sail around the world! Unfortunately funding is absolutely critical! My dream is to own a distinguished yatch and maintain and take care of her. Sail her far far away beyond all the baths of the western stars 🌟. I'm obsessed with content creation. Somehow my mission to achieve this goal must happen. To live an intentional life out at sea. Living on the fringes of society in marinas anchorages and oceans all over the world. Please God let me have this one thing. Let me see the skeleton coast let me see the great barrier reef, India the Andamans... I have to try. Funding is key 🔑

      I'm in the venetian Islands and there is very limited access to shore. In fact Miami beach is trying to put a full ban on boats anchoring here. I'm thinking of shooting a video about this.. I agree about the deep dive you suggested. It's a great idea

    I’m always curious if weekly TH-cam videos can provide some income to support (at least a little bit) this lifestyle. I know it’s dependent on views. Maybe a future video on finances, expenses, income would be a welcome content for anyone trying to do the same on the future. What would you have done differently if you could go back the year before season 1? Thanks for the content.

    That's far too simplistic an explanation regarding the efficacy of a "moisture meter," particularly the model you are holding which is very low end. These meters are not accurate in terms of true moisture percentages. Rather, they provide a relative reading and do not give any indication of the actual structural condition of the underlying core material. The only way to be really sure about the core is to take a sample but there are other indicators that a sophisticated "buyer" will use to determine whether moisture in the core is a real reason to run away. These include obvious indications such as visible movement in the deck but also much more subtle indicators such as audible "cracking" as one walks on the deck. Bottom-line, the moisture meter provides simply one data point and should not be used as a tool for making a binary decision about the condition of the deck core.

    • @bobloblaw1720
      @bobloblaw1720 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I doubt anyone was expecting a deep dive into moisture meters. Despite their limitations they are a critical part of assessing a boat before purchase.
