    I have the 2022 RAM 2500 Hemi 4x4 with air suspension - payload is 3100 pounds. Don't need the diesel. Works for me.

    It's why I went with the 6.4 Hemi. Gain almost 1000 lbs of payload without the diesel. Perfect for smaller 5th wheels (10k max) and larger travel trailers.

    I can't speak for Dodge, but in the new Chevys the 1-ton SRW and the 3/4-ton with the "Max Towing Package" are the same truck. They specifically list on the Max Towing Package that the truck has the 1-ton's frame (gusset plates and an extra cross member), suspension/leaf springs, 12" rear axle and HD shocks.
    So what's the difference? In some states, 1-ton trucks can only be registered as a commercial vehicle regardless of use, but many states offer the option to register a 3/4-ton truck as a personal vehicle which is less expensive. So the only real difference is a legal loophole - and either a 2500 or 3500 trim plate.

    My 2015 1500 Laramie only had a 1064 lb. payload. Just purchased a 2024 Rebel 2500 with a 2649 lb. payload. So yes, the 2500 is worth it. Now if you are talking diesel I would take the contrary position and say a diesel 2500 is not worth it.

      I get amazing milage and better resale on my 23 limited ram cummins. The gas hds all sit on lots, new and old.

      @@MELOMEOUT I'm glad to year you say that I just bought a brand new 2023 Ram Tradesman w/the 6.7L I6 Cummins and thought maybe I had overbought... but just pulled my tandem axel 16' Trailer I bought from my uncle w/a Kawasaki Teryx 4 800cc and a new Can-Am Outlander 850 like it's butter. I plan on renting good size travel trailers occasionally maybe a toy hauler as well. I have experienced that diesel brake going down steep grades w/that 16' tandem behind me.... absolutely cool didn't even touch the brake after tapping it. Sometimes it kicked in on it's own - very cool felt like I wasn't even towing anything. I also was surprised at the milage, Was the truck a bit more expensive, yeah will the maintenance be a bit more yeah.... but this was a once in a life time purchase for me - I'm planning on passing it onto the kids - My daughter actually is bidding for it the most even over my son LOL ;)

      That’s because it was a ram. My half ton ford has 1900 lbs of payload. 2600 for a hd is very low.

    2022 Ram 2500 Laramie edition with 6.4 L hemi, 4.10 gear ratio CC = 3066 lb. Works just fine for my 8,000 lb trailered boat and 14000 lb 5th wheel...no, I do not double tow and I don't exceed the numbers!

    • @riccochet704
      @riccochet704 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You realize the pin weight on your 14,000 lb 5th wheel is 2800-3000 lbs? It's generally 20% of gross weight, sometimes 25%. So unless you plan on driving the truck from outside of the truck you most certainly are over payload with just you in the truck. Nevermind the 5th wheel hitch and whatever else you have in the truck. But, yeah, keep thinking you are not exceeding the numbers.

    The 2500 is the sweet spot unless your hauling huge loads get a 2500 diesel you don't need to trade in every 4 years a 2500 can take 2 years to break in again if ya really need payload there are some great spring helpers out there that go on & come off without a lot of time or effort

      Helper springs or airbags does not increase payload. In fact you cannot increase payload.

    Selling my 2018 ram 2500 only has 1990 lbs of payload my gmc canyon denali has 1350 lbs of payload how embarrassing picking up a 3500 sing rear wheel in a few days. 1990 lbs of payload is a joke for a diesel HD truck.

    My Ram 2500 6.7 does all we need it to do. Tows our 32ft camper with cargo weight to spare. Just have to know what will work for you and your needs. Plus the engine brakes on the Fords and Chevys are laughable.

  • @MELOMEOUT

    I love my 2023 limted 2500 cummins, 20k tow rating, my old lbz 2006 lbz 2500 duramax only had a 12k tow rating and a 14k 5th wheel rating. The rear coils took some getting used to, but it rides very good for an HD. I put the airlift 7500xl and it's improved payload and towing substantially.

    • @BadoreksDailys
      @BadoreksDailys  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Awesome man. I think Ram did a great job with the 2500 setup. The coils are a bit “non traditional” but if you don’t NEED 4,000 pounds of payload the ride quality every day is much improved. Glad you enjoy it!

    Add a leaf spring helper when needed take it off when it's not for the better ride it's not rocket science

  • @revgordon91

    For the Ram 2500, the diesel isn't worth it because the diesel places several hundred additional pounds to the truck, AND the GVWR is 10,000lbs on the 24 Ram 2500s, but Ford and Chevy have both raised the GVWR above 10k lbs on the 3/4 ton diesels thus raising the payload on those trucks. If Ram did the same thing, their payload will go up also. However, they are now really competing with the 1 tons, because they're in the same class (class 3). In my opinion, the 2500s are best with the gas engine, and the 3500 SRWs are best with diesel.

      Absolutely the right logic! It goes along with getting what you need based upon what you tow and how frequently/far you tow it.

  • @cfyves
    @cfyves 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Some 3/4 tons have quite a bit of payload compared to half tons. Some of the RAM 3/4 with Cummins are quite low.... but I had a 2021 2500 Silverado with the Duramax that had just over 3300 lbs of payload. If the GVWR rating of the truck is only 10 000 lbs on the truck... and it's got a diesel engine in it.... you're not gonna have a ton of payload. Mine had a GVWR of 11 300 lbs. Big difference.

    It's only a sticker.....yes I know people will say this or that but if you by the axle or tire ratings your good......to each his own

    • @BadoreksDailys
      @BadoreksDailys  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For sure. I mainly just talk about the ratings. People will argue their opinion indefinitely. Can’t argue with what the sticker says, even if you disagree, that’s what it says. Hope that makes sense

    Chevy 2500 with 6.6 gas LT crew cab has payload of 3492lbs of the one I test drove two days ago. Max conv tow is 16,000lbs and gooseneck is 18,400lbs. The weight of any diesel engine is going to kill you on payload.
