I have the exact same truck. Exactly, color, model, engine, options everything. It is a beast!! Towed my harley with my 7x16' toy hauler out to the black hills and performed flawlessly. Got about 12mpg. With the electronic transfer cases, when you shift just be below 35mph and you should have no trouble, that is from the regional mopar rep. I also love the trans brake in this truck, kept truck from picking up speed down hills while towing and doesn't roll back on inclines with a load. Btw, you're not fooling anybody :)

Thanks for the review. It makes me happy that I didn't buy the Tradesman and went with the 2022 Laramie 2500HD with the group level B package. First ever truck. Bought it so the wife and I could tow a camper and see the world and not have to worry about finding a baby sitter for our dog. :)

I have the same truck as you. The only difference between mine and yours I have the offroad package with the Bilstein shocks and the gooseneck and fifth wheel hookups. I love my truck. The first time I saw this color I fell in love with it. Actually this is my second truck this year. I had the first one for six days and had less than 500 miles. Got hit by a 18 wheeler almost head on at 70 mph. My truck rolled 3 times. I do believe with all the safety features that truck saved my life. I have only towed one time with mine. It was about 4000 pounds and I had to remind myself that I was towing a trailer. It pulls great. I know what you are talking about with the mirrors. I don't care for them.

Get you a pulsar module, MBRP exhaust and intake. You won't be sorry. The 6.4 can flat out move in performance MDS off mode even with 37s. Oh yeah, get the piston for the tailgate for soft opening.

Completely agree about the chrome and the mirrors!! My Tradesman came with black, no chrome and I think it looks much better that way. Did you ever solve the mirror problem? I like the close in mirrors on my 2001 Ram 2500, any chance those would fit?

I smashed my thumb as well on that damn back step. A lady in the parking lot had her step extended and she couldn’t get it back up so I offered to help. I couldn’t figure it out and used my hand and “BAM!” That thing went up so fast and smashed me pretty bad.
Before I even realized what happened and the shock wore off, the lady sped away without so much as a Thanks.

  • @itisfinished4U

Mirrors definitely aren't great, I think I pretty much have settled on putting them in the non towing position even when towing my 21 foot boat and I just turn the larger portion on the passenger side to where it can see as far out as possible while just barely keeping a portion of the truck in view and use the small portion as blind spot type mirrors though blind spots are still somewhat of a concern for really short vehicles

I picked up a very similar 2500 Tradesman last week (color and all). Having had a 5th gen 1500 previously, learning to deal with the similar frustrations was a bit easier, especially with the shifter. Wait until you back up with thebdoor open. Over 2 mph itll auto park and is SO irritating.
They took the opening consol under the middle seat away. My 1500 had it. The 60/40 rear seat... oh how I agree!

In August I bought a fully loaded 2019 1500 limited, with a center seat (I swear this must be the only one made without the center console, took me forever to find one! ) Same mirrors, and I absolutely detest them. I use them in tow mode and for the passenger mirror I completely rely on the blind spot mirror and looking around 4 times to double check - does great things to my herniated disc. Gear dial, yep, I've left it in gear way too many times!
The items you mentioned later...I have media controls on my steering wheel and a 60/40 rear split seat. And while I wish the center storage was a little bigger, I'm still happy to be able to fit 3 people in the front. You're right, locking storage would be nice. The 1500 doesn't have a hump in the back.
As someone who has some pretty serious hand issues, having the button instead of latch for the tailgate is actually a huge thing for me (but mine doesn't slam down either). My old ram had the latch and I really struggled with it.
I wish I had the bed step, but now I see how it closes in not sure I want it. They need to steal the built-in bumper step idea that everyone else uses.
And yes, you will wind up with a dead battery if you leave it in gear. About 15 minutes after I forgot to throw it in park and left my truck one time, my husband told me my stereo was on. I was floored that they would design it that way.

Just a question, U didn’t notice the radio kept playing and bells were chirping after U opened the door??? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Everytime U shut down right ( meaning put the truck in park, and hit the start / off button ) the Truck powers off the radio and nothing chirps when U open the door…One of the reasons they did that was trying to remind U to grab your Key Fob because if U didn’t have time or forgot to put the truck in park U probably forgot your keys too..

The Tradesman is the best deal in these trucks. But like others pointed out many of the issues you mentioned are addressed in the other packages and trim levels. The problem I had with this is that in some cases things I really love about the Tradesman are not available once you add some of the packages or go up a trim level. Worse yet I would end up with a LOT of stuff that I don't want. In the end I chose to accept the compromises of the Tradesman in the more basic packages and trim than to give up the things I love about the base level Tradesman. Things that I would have liked would have been that middle under seat storage, the in the floor storage bins in the back floor, the split rear bench so you can open just part of it if you want. The fold out platform that makes a level back loading floor in the rear. Those would have been nice and are available, but I wasn't willing to pony up for the packages and trim level. That being said Ram has thought those things through and will give it to you for the money. In many cases they add on lots of stuff I just don't want to get those things. So in the end I chose to accept the mostly base level truck. Adding that tailgate damper looks like an easy modification to address like you did. In the end I still feel like these are minor annoyances in my case. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your truck. We each have our own likes and dislikes so it is interesting to hear others views on these things and possibly work arounds and solutions to issues.

Agree on the darn chrome! It's hard to avoid it even if you special order. I didn't get the full camera package on my 2021 because the chrome was a prerequisite. I really love the look of mine, once I added aftermarket wheels. The factory soft close for the tailgate is a cheap, easy install. Also agree on the mirrors, but I did at least get the lane change warning feature.

Great list - especially important if considering the Tradesman. I got a 21 Big Horn with equipment group B and a few other features, and most of your issues would go away. I also have the bucket with console, and the gear shift makes so much sense with how MASSIVE the storage is - everytime I see a console shifter now I think what a waste of space lol. I also disagree about the mirrors. I had a 1500 before this with the same mirrors, and absolutely love them. When folded down in normal mode, the convex mirror is still out enough to see around my trailer. I also got the tow tech package, so those convex mirrors are power. I know what you’re saying about the big mirrors being zoomed in, but still I find it works for me. Btw, I also think the chrome looks great. Oddly, because it’s so hard to find a truck on the lots, I ended up paying for a night edition package - so zero chrome lol (I didn’t want to do factory order, and I ended up going to a dealer over 2 hours away). Anyway, good review, and your point about the step is a great one. I like the step, and easy enough now I know how it works - but it definitely springs back with force!

As far as the steering wheel mounted audio controls are concerned, you most definitely can get them in a tradesman. They were a part of the “Safety Group”. And for the rear step, I had a similar experience with my finger getting caught on the sharp plastic bumper valance. I have found the easiest way to close it is to push it in with the side of your knee. Face the drivers side tail light, place your hand on the corner of the bed, and just swing your body so the outside of your knee gives it that nice little bump to close it. Closes far easier than trying to use your foot.

Not a lot, just a few and not the big ones. The issue with the big horn is it’s impossible to find. There were some must haves for me and the tradesman is really the only way to get them unless you order. Someone showed me how to adjust the tow mirrors in the down position using the little mirror.. They are amazing and I can't go back to the other mirrors now. You basically take the little mirror and you keep it so it's focused 100% on the next lanes to you. The little ones should NOT be in our lane at all. Then with the big and little, you see everything. With all due respect, I do not understand why you bought it. Some will say perhaps a different trim level, I don't know, but, personally, most of those things that you mentioned might just be the way this truck was configured. Personally, I would have looked at least 1 tier up in trim level, to get the desired features. Just my opinion, but, if it doesn't work for you, perhaps you should consider another brand. I fail to understand the logic here.... And, these are trucks, not cars! They are meant for work. I have not yet heard any problems working as a truck. Be thankful for what you have, or trade it...

And U gotta use what U have with the mirror and I do fine 🤷🏻‍♂️ and my PW has power mirrors, and Volume buttons on the steering wheel, and the bench seat does have a lift up storage seat, and U get fold out flat floor in a PW or Big Horn and Up I believe, and U don’t have a soft opening tailgate because it’s a TRADESMAN!!!!🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

I haven't had great luck out of the black plastic looking good after a few years but generally i can keep the chrome looking good for about 6 years. I 100% agree rams mirrors need improvement they're still better than gm. My next truck i plan on keeping for about 10 years i don't drive a bunch i live 5 miles from work and i don't do too much else if i can help it. @@NickMango ok... I had to go back and look... the bracket on the tailgate hinge is the top of this soft open setup... the lower ball mount is deeeeeep down in the fender, the damper goes down below the tail light opening (follow the orientation on the damper, which I believe puts the boot down). Look down in there and where you can see light coming up from the ground, get under there and put your hand in that gap (from the bottom) and you'll feel it, snap the top of the damper on the tailgate, have someone move the gate while you orient the bottom end of it on there and you should be good

Youbdont have to get the grill suroud from the dealer. You can either take it off and get it painted, it's not hard. YOU can order it from Mopar. Your dealer is awful of they can't do it.

They sure do a good job of shafting the buyer who wants a nice work truck. The seat in the back should be a split bench. The ford xl has a split rear sear and it is the lowest model they offer. Trim levels shouldn't mean usability but instead convenience. The tradesman dodges are all thousands more than an xl ford even after adding the stx appearance package. Maybe it is the huge display screen or something. With all the ford dealers trying to rip you off by selling a 50,500 dollar truck for 55,500 I have had decided turn my gaze to the rams. The tradesman seems much more like an xlt and comes in a little under the price. The ford scam artists are selling an xlt for about the price of what a lariat should be. I am looking forward to when supply catches up with demand. I might just wait to shop around and pinch every nickel I can out of their pockets.

    Weird. Those are not problems..
    Actual issues?
#1: No seat height adjustment, for real!
#2: The ride. Bounces the snot out of you, particularly unloaded, but that IS par for the course with a 3/4 ton.
Thats it though. LOVE the 21 Tradesman!

    • @NickMango
      @NickMango  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Vicki, so I actually think all the things I discussed in this video are problems. And the 2 things you mentioned, are not. The first one is about target demographic. A 3/4 ton truck is marketed to men. Generally speaking, men are bigger and taller than women. Height adjustment in the seat, especially when the steering wheel adjusts, is unnecessary. The second one isn’t an issue because every single 3/4 ton truck rides like this. It’s the nature of the vehicle. You even mentioned this in your complaint. Would a 1/2 ton ride be better? Of course. But it’s not a 1/2 ton. It’s a 3/4 ton. If you don’t like the ride I would drop your tire pressure to 47 in front and 50 in back. And/or replace front suspension parts like I did. GL.

The harsh ride was a huge let down for me when I first got the truck. After towing 10k plus a bunch of times it seems like the springs have “broke in” and the ride has improved a lot. Still no half ton but much better. Also run the tires around 65-70 psi for the best towing performance and ride compromise. My truck had 95 psi from the factory!
