As a bible study, this was the ONE biggest red flag I saw: the utter lack or urgency in meetings - in general - from JWs. They talk a good talk about the end of the world, then you go to a meeting, and it's quieter than a library. The templated, fixed structure of the meeting agenda, the way people talk, the suffocating niceness, the fear of minor offence...but...isn't the world about to end in a fireball, and we're the only guys that know about it, and need to warn as many people as possible? The ministry, knocking door to door like it's 1985 and they're reluctantly selling encyclopedia sets (I once had that job!). They do it for, what...and hour or two a week? Wouldn't you be shouting it from the rooftops? Actually I once met a JW who WAS like that. Johnathan actually acted like the world was going to end. He'd approach so many people. He made all the other JWs conspicuous by their lack of action.
Just to add, my Bible studies would be 50% talking about anything - cars, football, music, whatever. Then after an hour of that, we’d do the study which might be 45 mins or so.
JWs talk about the last days and the end of a system not the end of planet earth. JWs are not worried about it because the end involves the earths wicked people. For some of us it means we will never have to die.
So, so, so true.....it's painfully obvious....'urgently' teaching people how to survive....not so much. The world is on fire, but let's cover a few paragraphs in this book? LOL, so stupid

I was very disgusted at the idea that the scripts or outlines were prepared years beforehand but they made it seem like the "revelatons" were new when we were at these assemblies and conventions. I felt so upset at the time that I was expected to accept this without question and I decided from then on that I was going to live my life without the constant fear of the end being just around the corner. This was when I became fully awake without realising that this was what had happened to me. It made me think back to the Ramapo project in New York that they announced was going to be finished in 6 years (2025) and at the end Tony Morris as if he caught up on himself after the glee of the announcement said something to the effect that although the project would take 6 years it doesn’t mean we should lose our “sense of Urgency”. It was even worse when the elder who was leading the part told us that the Studios would be needed to preach to people in the new system. One pioneer sister commented that she couldn’t wait to have multiple Bible studies and use the teaching aids from the produced by the studio. It was all so depressing. It was then that I decided that as someone in my 50s this didn’t make any sense and I needed to live my life as a normal person, no longer putting things on hold until “after Armageddon” EDIT: Lloyd Evans did a rebuttal on the Ramapo video. WOW!! That is a very interesting share! Imagine how absurd it is to prepare years in advance for what is going on today! It would be 'old light' at this point.....ABSURD!
Ive been the 1st person to call in the fire of several of my neighbors homes over my lifetime. Where it was 30 minutes response time by the nearest fire dept & the houses were already fully engulfed! Your mouth goes instantly dry as a bone. Your heart pounds in your chest. You start running full speed & are struggling to breathe because it feels like the wind has been knocked out of you. No, JW's arent experiencing that. I asked my staunch JW mother to tell my why she believes its coming...and she REFUSED to talk about that life saving message! She must know in her heart that she LIED to me 50+ yrs ago when she said it was so close I wouldnt graduate from school. My grand kids have graduated. You are so right, its ABSURD!!! Wish you could give this "talk" at the convention. Wonder if any mouths would go dry?
WOW, incredible description of what a blazing fire feels like!! But I'm sure you made a sandwich and watched, right? Coffee break time? LOL...ABSURD!!!!
@@survivingparadisepodcast Lol! If I was waiting for paradise, I'd make a sandwich. But for a house on fire, Im too sick to my stomach with fear, not knowing if my neighbor was home & where their pets are! Either way, the waste is sickening.
Meetings. . . I cringe at the thought. Countless wasted hours I could have been doing something productive. Work on the car, paint the garage, watch a good movie etc. But no. Im sitting in this windowless kindom hall listening to some guy I don't even know drone on and on. Soon my mind would just go blank. Like when Charlie Brown's teacher would start talking, wah, wah, wah, wah. Fantasizing about the hot sister sitting in front of me was the only saving grace. Oh, the memories.
99.999% of JWs are completely ZONED OUT during meetings. My family members literally don't HEAR half the outrageous shit these people say anymore! I know because I'll bring something to their attention and they'll be like, "they didn't say that!!" And I'll quote exactly which video & who said it. Then I don't hear back from them lmao 😂😂😂 I only started to really LISTEN to them AFTER I woke up.
It hurts, doesn't it? All the wasted time on nothing.....all the volunteering or enjoying of life that could have been happening......it's hard to swallow. Understatement.
The sense of urgency is when it’s the last week of the month and you have 0 hrs!!! The urgency is to make hours!!! This reminds me when my husband and I decided to do the memorial month special pioneering of 30 hrs! We would go every day and when we came back will say: ok how many hrs we have left to her to the 30!! No mention of how many people we spoke to with sense of urgency, how many listened and forget about the revisits (we would go hoping they weren’t home!!)😂 And could note the traveling time!
I didn’t realized how much I hated preaching until I left, and was there for a real short time. Now not reporting the hours, people won’t preach. Everything is pointing to tele-evangelizing.
That's very interesting. Everything is about videos now, why not just have a channel? That's basically what they're turning their website into. If it weren't for simply having to control their masses, it would make sense that they just buy billboards advertising their website and quit wasting everyone's time. But, they need that control factor.
It's hard to mantain a sense of urgency when we have an organization that has been proclaiming the end of the system since 1879 ;) So we have groups of 6 JWs at one bookcart talking with each other and showing each other funny cats on their phones 😀
Think: what IS a Watch Tower? We normally think of them as high guard posts, guards walking and watching with firearms at the ready. The members are kept inside locked gates as prisoners. Watch Tower always gave me the cringe because it keeps you IN, structured, and “re-educated as in a “re-education camp”. You can’t get out. Who sits at the top in a Board Room? The governing body of men.
I see them at the park here close by sitting on the bench , the cart standing far apart ( god forbid someone comes and ask a question) talking with each other or on the phone, thus “saving life’s”😃😄 yes, you can tell the “urgency “. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
This is why they had to change their stance on wether someone could change AFTER the great tribulation starts. The GB knew lots of people were realizing 'urgency' was a joke.
This is the reality of the life of a JW that I eventually lived too. I was a Bible Study in 1975 and a very enthusiastic student, I wanted to please my Creator! But it wasn’t long before I realized that my Brothers and Sisters had no sense of urgency, just as this video explains. And after hearing Public Talk after Public Talk extorting us to ‘be at the work urgently’ I realized that we were nothing but a Congregation of Hypocrites…shouldn’t we sell everything and live in a tent? Beg for food and spend all of our waking hours preaching? Look at John the Baptizer for goodness sake’s !!! Instead I was told ‘NO ! We have to maintain a standard of living comparable to those in the community. ‘ At that point I began my slide in sarcasm, irony and an emotional fading away.
Just found your podcast - amazing radio voice & delivery skills :) As far as the urgency... I think everyone just acclimates to the idea that the house is on fire, people are inside, but you run in all the time and nobody wants to come out so eventually you're just like, 'Okay, well I tried, I'm ready now.' 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for being here Nicholas! You nailed it..... we all just slid into fatigue, boredom and complacency...there is a story about this ....it's called the Boy Who Cried Wolf ;)
I wonder if when they were talking about urgency, was that before or after they sold Brooklyn Bethel? Or kingdom halls? Or before they just eliminated counting time in the ministry? 😂 Urgent indeed! Thrilling!
Like you, I also hated field service, with the difference that here in Mexico the coffee break is not used, those who do it are the English-speaking congregations, so two hours of misery, preaching urgency 😅
The Mexican bro and sisters work SO HARD.....we shared KH's with many and they outworked the American folks constantly. It's also where all the growth was .... lots of respect for how they treated service......all so ridiculous!
Trust me....the Annual Meeting....and all my emotions.....will drop Monday. I needed to breath....and I'm still angry....let me know what you think next week ;)
I've had the same thoughts regarding people who believe in the hell doctrine and don't even pretend to lead a righteous life. They will even admit, "oh yeah, I'm probably going to hell", but do nothing to take control of that. I think most people of any religion don't actually believe their handed down doctrines as their lives clearly demonstrate.
Such a fantastic subject to explore.... cognitive dissonance among the religious....reading one thing, doing the other.....fascinating. Subconsciously, I doubt anyone 'believes'
If there was one occasion that consistently got my heart beating hard and my senses turned up to 11, it was the marking talks. Although I can't say those talks really conveyed "urgency" other than to ghost the person if you knew who it was about.
I used to feel there was no urgency when we went out field service. I didn’t like doing it but I felt if its going to save a life then I will. But that pioneer shuffle got on my lasssst nerve. They walked soooooooooooooooo slow.
It's about complacency I believe. Active preaching Witnesses feel they are saved. So there's not a lot of urgency. They'd never admit it. They also feel they will be preaching a long time, so pacing themselves is important. I'm just guessing this, based on my observations and interactions with very old, faithful witnesses. They'd say, 'we can't be sure that we are saved'...but in their hearts they think they are.
Yeah, I think it's faux modesty when they say they aren't necessarily saved. I used to know an entire family that claimed they already knew they would be destroyed but wanted to try to help save as many others as they could. So dumb.
I remember as a MS in South Beach Florida, I would send the brothers and sister to the territory and then tell the group I was going on return calls with my wife. I would end up at a breakfast restaurant and them go to south beach park to look at pigeons.
Its october 27th 2023. A mere 2 weeks have passed since you dropped this episode. I havent listened to it yet. But I will say, Stacy im sorry for how much work looking into now old light as of just after you released this you did.
@survivingparadisepodcast Did a bit of a binge listen and ugh this one did hit. I oft wondered if Armageddon is coming so soon why are we offering such vapid magazines? Like "the end is nigh- but here's an awake where it asks if the Bush babies eyes are designed or not. See you next saturday"
@survivingparadisepodcast haha truly inspired an inspired message. In all seriousness it did raise a lot of questions about how serious the GB took the conveyed message since they were dictating what it was. Not like they were worried about being wrong or anything...
By the behavior I see in the Spanish Congregation I attend, JWs are tired of the bull💩. Low meeting attendance, low service attendance... I hope this continues, forcing the WTBTS to many more changes. I'd love to see the Friday knocked off the Reg Assy. Thanks, Stacey... Thanks, sincerely. ❤👍
That lack of urgency has always bothered me! They say all the time the end is near or its around the corner, but their actions is the complete opposite of being urgent. How is cart witnessing in silence showing urgency???! And Why hasn't the governing body connect with the news media worldwide to warn the people in masses that the end is very near?... They have not done it because the governing body knows deep down its all B.S! Btw Stacy great podcast.
Is there a certain amount of cognitive dissonance going on here? They are willing to go along with the idea that the end is nigh, but deep down they don't really believe it? Real urgency versus pretend urgency?
With belief now in urgent judgement, the JWs would not respond to the catastrophic effects around. They have been numbed, flat affects, and waiting for the suffering.
You obviously didn't have my mother as your parent. It was constantly all steam ahead in our house. You couldn't miss a meeting Saturday was 8 hours at least witnessing and Sunday morning 3 hours. You had to sleep as soon as you got home from school so you were awake for the whole meeting THEIR LIFE AND YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT. My mum had 3 children under 5 and pioneered 100 hours a month. Ah but that was 60 years ago. Mum has died (Faithful of course) and now you go to convention and its all about patiently waiting. If only mum was 20 years old now she could settle down and enjoy sitting on a chair next to a cart for 2 hours a week
Ugh. That's fckng SAD! And sounds miserable for you as a kid!! Eeek. My mom was on & off lax. I hated meetings and field service & did everything I could to stay home instead! I wasn't a great student and being dragged out to meetings 3x a week was like torture for me and made my grades suffer all the more. I can remember screaming matches with my mom over meetings. My dad was half-ass and a drinker, always stressed out and very irratic too so that wasn't fun either...*sigh* so many UNHAPPY children & families in this cult!!
:( this breaks my heart....so much childhood lost to something so senseless!!! I'm so sorry, we were three kids to a single mother, but she was not big on field service. I'm so sorry you went through this.....big hugs to you
I can't wait for your video on the new light where the rank and file no longer have to report but please think about this why are Pioneers special pioneers in Circuit overseas under the old light and still have to report if you watch the annual general meeting the brother gives scripture evidence as to how reporting is no longer necessary. For the first time ever there is old light and new light shining at the same time depending on your status or title in Watchtower
1920 “Millions now living will never die! Advertise advertise advertise the King and His Kingdom!” Well, they advertised and died anyway. The lies continue.
Here are some additional thought-provoking questions that active Jehovah's Witnesses might consider in light of the discussions about doctrinal changes and the concept of "new light": 1. **Biblical Basis for New Light**: How do we reconcile the concept of "new light" with scriptural assertions that God's word is unchanging? Are there other scriptural examples where God has changed His teachings, or is the concept of progressive revelation unique to modern times? 2. **Historical Accuracy**: How have past "new light" revelations stood the test of time? Were there instances where "new light" was later reversed or significantly altered, and what does this say about the infallibility of the Governing Body's interpretations? 3. **Personal Faith and Doctrine**: How should individual Jehovah's Witnesses respond when their personal understanding of the scriptures conflicts with new doctrinal changes? What guidance does the organization provide in these situations? 4. **Prophetic Accountability**: How does the organization address and learn from prophetic statements that have not come to pass? Is there a mechanism for accountability for these unfulfilled predictions? 5. **Transparency in Doctrinal Development**: What processes does the Governing Body use to discern "new light," and how are these revelations verified before being presented to the congregation? Is there room for discussion or debate among members about these new teachings? 6. **Impact on Personal Relationships**: How do frequent doctrinal changes impact relationships with non-believing family members and friends? Are there guidelines on how to explain these changes to those outside the faith? 7. **Crisis of Faith**: How should members deal with a crisis of faith that arises from doctrinal changes or unfulfilled predictions? What support systems does the organization have in place for individuals struggling with these issues? 8. **Scholarly Engagement**: How does the Governing Body engage with broader biblical scholarship? Are outside scholarly works considered during the development of new doctrines, or is the interpretation based solely on internal study? 9. **Spiritual Growth**: How do members ensure their spiritual growth isn't disrupted by changes in doctrine? How can they maintain a strong faith if they feel uncertain about the teachings? 10. **Role of Tradition**: How does the concept of "new light" interact with the traditions of the faith? Are there core beliefs that are unchangeable, or is everything open to future reinterpretation?
There is an “evil slave” in charge. (Matt 24:48-51) He “beats the other slaves” and gets some to follow. (Luke 12:45-48) Upon seeIng this, Jesus orders us to leave and head for the mountains. (Matt 24:15) He says “let the reader use discernment” not listen to a “faithful slave.” Jehovah provided this warning for you, show appreciation, and just wait on him.
Thank you for your thoughts PHD, appreciate the dialogue. Unfortunately, JWs have been told to 'wait on JW' for over a century. Many have died. And there are many questions surrounding Jehovah....including why he killed people for picking up sticks on Sunday, allowed Lot to sleep with his own daughters and how this and much more define a 'god of love.'
@@survivingparadisepodcast Every end time priesthood is corrupted, it proves man can not rule man, as Jehovah championed in the “garden of eden”. If the Watchtower was not corrupt, it would put Jehovah’s word into question. The evil slave prophesies show the scope of Jehovah’s brilliance.
48:12 you guys in the US had it made with coffee breaks and cargroups. When I was a kid in Germany, we had to walk from door to door 2 hours solid rain or shine. Great podcast though Stacey. The work has become even more urgent now by waiting 4 weeks to go out in Fieldservice and then talk for 5 minutes to someone about Jehovah on the last day of the month. Yeah, you participated in this urgent work. 😅
Wow, I appreciate you sharing this! I often wonder if this resonates outside the U.S. We have it so easy compared to JWs around the world.....just unbelievable!

@@survivingparadisepodcast
Lol! If I was waiting for paradise, I'd make a sandwich. But for a house on fire, Im too sick to my stomach with fear, not knowing if my neighbor was home & where their pets are! Either way, the waste is sickening.
Right there with you Heather!@@heatherwillson4862
Meetings. .
LOL, well said!!!!!!@@cultytalk
I am "urgently" trying to find the words to say how much I love your videos! Thanks again for your insights! Urgent Blessings to you!
Thank you SO much Virginia!! Thank you for being here!
The “end” has been imminent for 2000 years.
.....any second now! LOL!
26:13 I was jogging and I had to stop in order to comment, I was about to stumble laughing, remembering the scene of a KH meeting 😂😂😂😂
LOL, be careful, I'm crazy! :)
No mention of how many people we spoke to with sense of urgency, how many listened and forget about the revisits (we would go hoping they weren’t home!!)😂
And could note the traveling time!
Exactly!!! I did the same thing! The good old Memorial Season push.....panic on the last three days of the month! LOL
I despised it so much....and now, salt in the wound....NONE of it mattered anyway!
Funny! Thanks for helping me wake up on this gloomy Monday morning! 😂
Thank you, so good to see you!
It's hard to mantain a sense of urgency when we have an organization that has been proclaiming the end of the system since 1879 ;) So we have groups of 6 JWs at one bookcart talking with each other and showing each other funny cats on their phones 😀
LOL, so true....I just posted a similar picture on the podcast Instagram....it's SO embarrassing for them!!!
Not to worry-new light! Reporting changes-- urgency slaking off.
...and they're shifting their strategy as we watch....
Pure Gold or Jehovah’s Holy Spirit the timing of this video !
LOL, the timing is a little eerie....taped right before that Annual Meeting....oh, it's coming
@@survivingparadisepodcast I’m expecting it to be a doozy !
Yes, that is a very valid point Christine! A JW feel constantly confined!
And NOW they no longer have to report service time or placements 🤣 No big deal.
I'll quote my mother: "Yes, they're "simplifying "The Truth" isn't it wonderful!"" 😅😅😅 OK ma'....ok.
Yep, none of it mattered.....it will be everything in next week's episode

I see them at the park here close by sitting on the bench , the cart standing far apart ( god forbid someone comes and ask a question) talking with each other or on the phone, thus “saving life’s”😃😄 yes, you can tell the “urgency “. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Photo up on our Instagram. It's truly embarrassing......how they think that is okay shows the level of delusion
This is why they had to change their stance on wether someone could change AFTER the great tribulation starts. The GB knew lots of people were realizing 'urgency' was a joke.
I think that was a big part of it!
So glad I wasn't alone. I often felt like we were fake....until I realized none of us truly believed it. There was NO urgency! So glad you're out!
I thought Steven lett was going to say in his yearly stock holders annual meeting “ok, for real, real this time, we are living in the final part………”
LOL, I wouldn't have been shocked at all
Just found your podcast - amazing radio voice & delivery skills :) As far as the urgency...
YAAAAAYYYYY STACEY POSTED!!! I LOVE MONDAYS! 🎉 💃 🕺 🥳
Thank you!!!!!! You're appreciated!!
I wonder if when they were talking about urgency, was that before or after they sold Brooklyn Bethel? Or kingdom halls? Or before they just eliminated counting time in the ministry? 😂 Urgent indeed! Thrilling!

RIGHT??? LOL, gaslighting people at an epic level!!!
Definitely looking forward to your take on the new organizational adjustments in jws “spiritual paradise”!
Thank Daniel.....coming Monday....I'm still trying to peal myself off the ceiling
This episode needs a part two update after annual meeting 😂
Oh, yes. JWs are sure to become more active in the ministry now, with a renewed sense of urgency. Ha! 😄

This is my favorite episode of all time!!!! This was me. All of it! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If there was one occasion that consistently got my heart beating hard and my senses turned up to 11, it was the marking talks. Although I can't say those talks really conveyed "urgency" other than to ghost the person if you knew who it was about.
Ugh I had to give those Jeff.....TERRIBLE! Public shaming....that's all those talks were
I used to feel there was no urgency when we went out field service. I didn’t like doing it but I felt if its going to save a life then I will. But that pioneer shuffle got on my lasssst nerve. They walked soooooooooooooooo slow.
LOL...the shuffle!!!!! How about the really light 'knocking' at the door?? Or driving out of the territory to a return visit, all to count time?!
So dumb.
Interesting point. By doing the bare minimum, the weekly schedule, they believe they're good to go.....very valid point
Whoa......interesting they felt that way! @@Eric_01
The first door was always hit by 930 for us… so 2.5 hrs (coffee break included of course).
Ha, you were compensating....you were more honest than most!!! What we could have done with all of that time!
I remember as a MS in South Beach Florida, I would send the brothers and sister to the territory and then tell the group I was going on return calls with my wife. I would end up at a breakfast restaurant and them go to south beach park to look at pigeons.
LOL, LOL....at the end, I was doing that too George!!

It was all a waste of time.....covering next week....and I'm pissed
That lack of urgency has always bothered me! They say all the time the end is near or its around the corner, but their actions is the complete opposite of being urgent. How is cart witnessing in silence showing urgency???! And Why hasn't the governing body connect with the news media worldwide to warn the people in masses that the end is very near?... They have not done it because the governing body knows deep down its all B.S! Btw Stacy great podcast.
Right??????? It's gaslighting at it's finest!!! The Governing Body don't even GO OUT IN FIELD SERVICE!!!!!! Very 'urgent'.....LOL, insulting
Is there a certain amount of cognitive dissonance going on here? They are willing to go along with the idea that the end is nigh, but deep down they don't really believe it? Real urgency versus pretend urgency?
Very much so. An ocean of cognitive dissonance.....it's incredible to watch
TheGB claim not to be inspired and infallible but on the hand say that Holy Spirit directs them in decision making- figure that one out
Epic gaslighting.....insulting millions right to their faces
With belief now in urgent judgement, the JWs would not respond to the catastrophic effects around. They have been numbed, flat affects, and waiting for the suffering.
They've had their ability to think and feel stolen from them.....they're swimming in cognitive dissonance
Urgency to the governing body: Instant gratification.
Yes, it's all about them!

1920 “Millions now living will never die! Advertise advertise advertise the King and His Kingdom!”
Well, they advertised and died anyway. The lies continue.
Here are some additional thought-provoking questions that active Jehovah's Witnesses might consider in light of the discussions about doctrinal changes and the concept of "new light":
