Cleaning vintage guitar tuners using WD-40

    I just bought an old Fender Tele with these same vintage style tuners. The high E string tuner just turns freely, with no resistance. Is there a way to open up the tuner and repair it? It's a valuable instrument, so I'd prefer to keep it all original, if possible.

    I found something called PB Blaster years back when I was wrenching on cars. Its like wd40 but much better at breaking down corrosion and freeing bonded metals. Id make a bet you get even better results with that.

    white vinegar works great for any rusty guitar metal bits

    If you sit the flat square section of the tuners in the layer of liquid, it may have worked better. With the posts, wonder if it would work better wrapped in WD soaked tissue. Easier to think of in hindsight.

      WD-40 is a pretty tame cleaner, so I’d think (hope?) it’d be okay
