Beyond just teaching us how to remove rust effectively, this video imparts valuable lessons in resourcefulness and creativity. It reminds us that solutions to common problems can often be found within our own homes, using simple ingredients and tools. This not only saves us money but also encourages us to think outside the box and find innovative solutions to everyday challenges. Thank you for this enlightening and practical tutorial!
Nothing new or better than we all already know, and that is: Cheap rust removal method: Vinegar Expensive rust removal method: Evapo-Rust Fast rust removal method: HCL After any of the mentioned methods, wire brushing or sanding is still required. And then, some protection for the metal is needed, such as: paint, wax, varnish, shellac, glue, grease, oil, plating, hot bluing.
That process takes much to long and involves the use of harsh chemicals. There are much easier processes that use natural ingredients that are not harmful to you or the enviroment, so no need for PPE. You can also just use a wire brush chucked into a drill press or secure hand drill. I've been restoring hundreds of antique handtools for years now and if I used your method, I'd still be work on the first one. You also need to disclose your process as you go along. If you do not speak the common language of English, then type out your process and translate it into English. Google has this service free to use. Most countries teach English as a second language so most foreigners use it in there videos if they want to reach a wider audience.
Can this cleaning process restore fasteners completely? Rust also erodes the metal surface, so after cleaning you should be certain that the cleaned component will perform as required. Also there will be hydrogen embrittlement of the metal.
This rust removal tutorial is a lifesaver! Thanks to The Home Depot for sharing these easy methods to revive my rusty tools and hardware. Can't wait to put these tips into action and restore my equipment to its former glory!
Reminds me of old YT videos where a guy takes apart a lighter; and with some plastic parts, batteries, and loads of hot glue makes...another lighter! Not new inventions, just reinventing the wheel!
Absolutely....just soak over night in vinegar and salt solution, longer if required, scrub with wire brush..then soak of in water and baking soda to wash of. Finally rinse under running water and dry. Works like a charm....literally turns tools, bolts back to almost brand new
This is a MONEY SAVING IDEA that will take time & effort. Some things thatchave rusted for whatever reason either could not be replaced andcwould cost. Some people have money to buy threw away items and repurchase. I will live time & effort. Thanks for the video. Saved me $10 per screw & nuts (truck repairs).
The best way to remove rust just doak overnight in coconut oil. Afterwards store these nuts, bolts and screw in a container with talcum powder. These won't get rusted. Such a complicated long process is Unnecessary.
A lot of time spent, a lot of resources, not worth it. Author do not know basic chemistry at all. Any supermarket - “Bar Keeper Friend” will do that job cheeper and faster.
Why not just pour those rusted bolts and screws to an anti rust solution instead of using such multiple processes that's too time consuming. It's a lot efficient, less effort, and would cost less.😮
Click on "Transcript" above. Mostly obvious, but what does it cost for all of the materials and do the parts stay free of rust once stored? In my experience they do not!
What is the point of the extra steps after the vinegar derusting? You could argue that the sand in the descaler-thingy was too coarse to get in the nooks and crannies of the bolt threads and other tight spaces to make any difference, and after all that work and treating it with the odd slurry they looked no better than if plucked out ot the vinegar. To simplify this i would taken them out og the vinegar, rinsed, let dry and then wirewheel and done. After that I would used electroplating and added a layer of zinc to prevent further oxidation.
Final step 962: After days of following several processes and wasted data, you remove the nuts and bolts from the mixture and voila, you realise it was cheaper, quicker and easier to buy new ones at the hardware store.
No. The sulphur in the CuSO⁴ liberates the oxygen from the iron oxide exposed and bonds to form iron sulfide with the free iron particles. Copper acetate is just repeating the vinegar step with the addition of copper. Without clean metal and electrolysis it would be just wasted materials.

Should have run the drill at a slower speed for the tumbler, or otherwise as shown in the video everything stays in one place and doesn't get moved around which is the whole point of doing it.
What a complete overkill~!!!!!!!!! All you need is store bought white vinegar with added salt to solution and soak for a couple of days and then neutralize with baking soda and spray with WD-40 and bolts are clean and coated for use~! It would cost a bunch to get all these chemicals and much time spent for a few bolts~!!
Just buy a rust removal spray; is cheaper, faster and less effort from you. Your solution make no sense: you spent so much time, so many chemicals, so much efforts, so much money to clean few screws😂😂😂
Ficaram novas. Simples.
What a complex solution for a simple task
After using vinegar you gotta cover them in baking soda to nuturalize the vinegar. So just use black molasses n water and nothing else to remove water
Or potatoes and water!
i was thinking use a tumbler full of baking soda after vinegar soak and rinse
How wonderful! I learned a lot of great tips from your creative videos

Right! It's a lesson in applied science, the best kind for the masses.

How do I get my car into the saucepan and then onto the stove 😂?
You have to take the wheels off 😊
@@regd.2263 I did that but it’s still a bit too big😃
Pieza por pieza 😢😢😅😅😅😅
Easy, buy a bigger saucepan !
one piece at a time🤣
I use vinegar all the time for rust removal. What's with all the poison? You can zinc plate them faster than that mess.

thank you for this. when money is extinct and I cant just go and buy new like others say, I have knowledge to do what you showed.
and after?
Will i bath the "screws" in oil or how do i protect them from new rust?
You can proceed with copper plating, or zinc plating
Simply pointless...no real information disclosed
Awesome idea !!!!!congratulations 🔴🫢🤫thank you so much !!!!,
You are welcome!

Wow! The idea is so great, congratulations
good idea. Tank you
Great job. Applicable to clean up rusty wrenches and spanners.
Thanks 👍
Although result is not good but his innovative idea is superb. And honesty is there, as he not change new screw and bolt with old at last.

Ok, Nice to meet you!
I just soak mine in phosphoric acid.
Much easier and cheaper, just soak them in white vinegar for 24hrs.
16 hours later when your drill runs oot

I couldn't believe how much work he put into removing rust from bolts. He could have just let it sit in some citric acid....🤯
Genius!
Thank You!
I could have been to the hardware store and back with brand new fasteners in the amount of time this video took.

Just mix vinegar with salt and live there the rusty screws for few hours then get out and dry them problem solve and don't forget to oil them
THATS USEFULL

Might be good for drill driver bits when they get wet and rusty. Yuppers 👍👍

I bought it on the internet.
That invention is 60+ years old here.. My favorite rust remower
for all the labor and what was spent on material it would be more practical to buy a tumbler

Does those worth more than the drill?
I like Evapo-Rust
Yes, it is a specialized rust remover.
The process is too complicated and expensive to remove, and you can do it with an electric drive or a bush 😊
No need to heat it up and as mentioned not all corrosion should be treated this way, depends on value.
Here I introduce how to do it. In company, the number of bolts and screws that need to be processed is probably several hundred Kg
Should have run the drill at a slower speed for the tumbler, or otherwise as shown in the video everything stays in one place and doesn't get moved around which is the whole point of doing it.
Pur them in a clean plastic milk jug qith dry sand and stones and put lid on and shake,it is safer than chemicals, faster, and cheaper!!!

So where dobyou buy copper sulphate anyway?
WD 40❤ and we use Q20 in South Africa. Just soak it for a day and apply drill with wire brush attachment.
I'm no chemist but: why dissolve that much copper sulphate and then dilute it with baking soda. Couldn't you puy less copper sulph.? Just an idea.
