    I have this, having upgraded from HUB’s previous ultrawide recommendation, the Kogan 34, and let me just say, the difference is huge. The colours are excellent along with viewing angles, a significant upgrade from VA to IPS in my opinion. The fact that it is flat was off putting at the beginning, but I soon got used to it and I am super happy with it. highly recommended.

      @@Moe32244 I'm still in awe with this monitor after all this time! I must've won the lottery because I've had no issues whatsoever and no dead pixel on the whole panel so far. 3D CAD work is so much easier on a monitor this size and I'm happy I didn't succumb to the temptation of buying a curved one for gaming because even in games, at the right distance, it's truly amazing! I think you can get $50 CAD off Newegg right now, which is always appreciated. My only gripe is with games that doesn't support the ultra wide format (cough ... Elden Ring cough ...).

Their 4K and 1440p models have received a substantial amount of attention, and it would be great to see those products get put through this palpable testing method. I picked up a ViewSonic VA3456-MHDJ last April, same size flat IPS panel with similar touted specs to this one except it tops out at 75hz and is missing most of the gaming focused features which makes sense as it's really an office monitor. If this had been available when I was in the market for a new monitor it would have been a strong contender, that KVM and the higher refresh rate would have easily been worth the extra ~$200CAD to me between what I paid for the monitor in front of me now vs what I see this one's currently selling for around here (a bit over $700CAD).

  • @Sil3nC4
    @Sil3nC4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Great review. I bought the M34WQ approx. 4 weeks ago and am happy with it so far. I use it mostly for content consumption, light gaming and using the KVM to switch between my gaming PC and work laptop. Only issue I have is that the KVM loses the USB connection randonly every once in a while, leading to you sitting in an FPS shooter without sound or control for 5-8 seconds. The switching between the devices could be faster also (USB). The lack of curve is only a small issue when I want to read small text in the corner edges. Speakers are surprisingly good (for a monitor). The OSD and startup of the monitor is faster and more responsive than my ASUS gaming monitor, that's nice to have. I think considering price and availability here in europe, the monitor is a good value option if you can't or won't go for the more higher end options like the Samsung Neo G9 and similar type displays.

    Thanks for your efforts, really appreciate the time and attention to detail as usual. HU has been my go to place for monitor reviews, but I feel that, in addition to the in-depth technical data, it would be good to get an opinion on the real world performance, ie how much of the slow response time / overshoot / ghosting etc can you actually see when gaming at say 60, 120 and 144Hz. From a personal perspective, I've been getting really bogged down by the results in the tables and graphs, trying to compare panels in your league table, but find myself wondering, how much of this is actually noticeable when you're gaming.

      Color accuracy is something you can safely ignore. It should be accurate enough not to look weird.

    • @josipreponj1928
      @josipreponj1928 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Big part of it is personal preference. Most people don't like overshoot, but some don't mind it and prefer slightly snappier motion. It can also depend on what type of player are you, or how your eyes perceive the moving image - tracking eyes, fixed gaze, adjustable, mix.
      I would suggest Hardware Unboxed to cover full vrr range in their ufo pursuit shots (e.g. 60-120-240Hz/fps) so that people who are not familiar with all the data get an idea how it looks like in real life. Without a 2-3 proper reference images given numbers loose their meaning or impression. Seems like people prefer more ufo shots over numbers anyways. This might be a big issue - how many people do really use it, do they skip it out of not understanding it? Good thing is HUB switched their testing method to '3% gamma corrected' which is much more eye perception friendly compared to traditional '10% linear'.

    I would have loved one more USB slot on the KVM plus a BETTER PLACEMENT FOR THE CONTROLS! Its super hard to use with multiple monitors and laptops on my desk.

    Good review, as usual!
    However, does the monitor support DCC/CI fully? For example, LG monitors, although very good, are notoriously bad with the full DCC/CI spec compliance.
    I think a lot of people would appreciate it if you put a small section in monitor reviews with DCC/CI testing, so companies like LG are scrutinized when doing shady stuff, which is currently not being checked by any monitor reviewers I have seen.
    Keep up the good work!

    • @josipreponj1928

    • @Elementral
      @Elementral 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rawdez_ In my specific use case, I just wanted to be able to switch display inputs without using the flimsy joystick (using software). For this to happen, you need the monitor to properly support this in hardware and its part of the DCC/CI support. So in essence they have "some" support for DCC/CI (like brightness, gamma, color adjustments etc) but not full coverage.
      I have read for many more user specific use cases with other parts of the DCC/CI spec, which I cannot remember exactly, but you get the point.
      The most annoying thing is not the support itself, but that there is absolutely NO information about this anywhere (regardless of manufacturer), so you can make an educated purchase decision. Reviewers also don't cover this topic at all.

    • @Elementral
      @Elementral 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@josipreponj1928 I absolutely agree on this as well. Although I can give manufacturers "some" slack here, as the matrix controllers or the matrix itself (based on monitor type) could require some auto start up calibration or warm-up like period.

I'm running a previous gen Samsung UW1440p VA panel but only at 100 Hz so response and refresh are pretty much in sync. With the current shortages I can't find a GPU to push faster rates anyways and I'm not much of a shooter gamer anymore - RPG's and strategy mostly which don't require bleeding edge frame rates. My panel is also flat which I prefer and looked for as I use it instead of a dual monitor setup in some instances. I find 1800R to be a bit too much of a curve but am considering the 2300R of the 38" UW1600p panels which will be my next upgrade. Hopefully one of these units makes it into your review rotation. Big thumbs up!

    I would love a monitor like this a market segment up. I want to get into ultrawides but the curve doesn't suit my multi monitor set up. I'd just want this but with better colour performance and variable over drive then I'm joking the UW gang. Thanks again for the amazing review.

    Question: If adaptive sync is disabled and the monitor always runs at its maximum refresh rate are overdrive artifacts still a problem when playing lower FPS titles? I would assume not but am not sure.

    • @josipreponj1928
      @josipreponj1928 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In theory it should have less overshoot than with adaptive sync enabled. Same amount as @max refresh to be exact. Because it keeps updating at 144 and cuts off the over/undershoot before it exagerates. Some monitors can have different overdrive modes with vrr disabled. But there really is no reason do disable vrr.

    As a 3d animator I've always been pushed away by curved monitors because they make straight lines and curves appear different. I've always been attracted to ultrawide for all my menus and node maps, so I'm really really excited for this compromise that's only 500!!

    I just picked up the curved variant of this monitor and have it mounted above my Samsung 49" G9. I'm now wondering if this flat IPS version would be better due to the viewing angles? I will not be gaming on it and typically use it for discord, youtube, twitch or some sim-racing apps. I would also be able to tilt it more due to it being flat, I think aesthetically the curved would probably look better on top of the G9 though. Would the better viewing angles be that much better and worth the loss in contrast? I normally use it in a dark room at night as well.

    There is the Acer Nitro xv340ckp 34 inch which runs at 1440p and 144hz and has a ultrawide form factor while being a flat panel
    It also doesn't cost much either i recently picked one up NEW for 380$ which imo was a really good deal for it
    Comes with a USB hub behind it and a reasonable amount of input ports HDMI ports are 2.0 but at this price its probably not a concern as you can just use displayport

    I saw on the rtings website that this monitor also includes a Picture Quality overdrive mode, and that mode seems to be good for both high and low refresh rates. I did not see that mode tested in this video, was it not available on your unit? The rtings website claims the unit they tested was manufactured in August of 2021.

    One thing I would like to know when you review newer screen sizes, is how they compare to the old standard sizes. For example, is it like a 32” screen with extra width, or a 27” with extra width, or somewhere between. This would help understand the height of the screen and the pixel size.
    I’m sure I can work it out but it would be nice to have a quick mention of this in the review.

And when our GPU can't handle that resolution if we set the ratio 16:9 and downscale the resolution to 1440p 2k. will it looks like a native 2k 1440p 27-inch monitor or blur? Or looks bad?
