I've never been disappointed by the value of a Xiaomi product so far~ Be it a phone, a fitness tracker, a camera.. and this monitor does seem like a pretty nice entry 34" option. Great stuff, as usual! o/
Yea I know why the phones are cheap, “Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has been called out for spying on personal user data using their smartphones. According to a new report online, the Xiaomi Redmi Note has been found to be sending photos and texts to a server in Beijing. This has further fueled speculations about the Chinese government spying on users overseas through phones made by Chinese manufacturers.”
@@stewiegriffin8696 I mean, sure it does. Do you even remotely believe that other smartphone producers don't do this kinda shit? Be it freakin' Samsung, Apple or any phone that uses the Google services aka EVERY Android os - EVERYONE spies on you. This is just how it is these days. You either accept that or.. buy one of those Linux phones that are still kinda ass. Or be disillusional and keep thinking that your specific brand doesn't do stuff like this, your choice~ I'd rather have Xi Jinping personally look through my hiking photos than Tim Cook tbh. 🙃
Watching this on the Xiaomi Curve 34 itself. Thank you so much for the input on this monitor. I'm very happy with it. If anyone is considering this monitor and looking for good feedback from users, this is one of them.
@@uaespetsnaz2391 For what you pay for its very good. It's no LG monitor, and the backlight bleed is noticeable when the monitor is on and nothing is being displayed. However among the brands that currently sell these VA 144hz ultrawide panels, Xiaomi is one of the best at a very competitive price
@@1504Emily "quite bad" can be subjective from person to person. I cant give you any numbers but its not so bad (for me). It will either be a case of "you get what you pay for" or "incredible value". Eitherway seems like a win 👍
@@diegoveloso3rd thx, for the sceptre I think it actually was bad lol, it had big semi circular light bleed on top and bottom, left and right corners of the panel, reducing the brightness helped a bit, but when playing something like cyberpunk with black menus, it was still very noticeable and annoying
Here I am watching this review on my Xiaomi Mi Curved 34. It just broke this morning after 6 months of use. I bought it because of this review. Just cautioning people about the longevity of this product. My particular unit also had pretty severe backlight bleed near the 4 corners which made watching movies that were dark pretty annoying.
Just bought this a few days ago. Its too damn good for its price. I cant believe how well built it is and the color is great. Coming form a 100hz ultrawide the 44hz diff is noticeable in FPS games.
Quick google for my local stores and that model is on back order (not much of a wait though, so near enough to available) at around 15% higher price than I got the Xiaomi for Both are the same res/Hz/curve/panel type etc.. so I would assume same actual panel in a different shell. I'd be quite interested to see if it's worth the slight increase in cost.. even if identical though it'd still be great as it's easier to deal with warranties locally with a big brand like Gigabyte That said, Xiaomi opened an actual warehouse/office in Australia in 2019 and teamed up with small mobile phone repair partner stores around the country, so if I did have issues I can still make a direct warranty claim without any international shipping drama. Might even be able to drop it off at said little mobile store nearby as a middle-man without paying for shipping at all
Thanks for mention it, its way better compare to Xiaomi. AMD freesync premium, 90% DCI-P3, 350 cd/m2, VESA Display HDR400. Damn, slaying budget ultrawide 1440p. Hope this monitor overdrive perform good in 144Hz. Now we know this Xiaomi really not suit for gaming.
I purchased the Gigabyte G34WQC from Newegg for $399 a few weeks ago. It's my first Ultrawide 1440p monitor, coming previously from a 27" 1440p 144mhz panel. I greatly enjoy the ultrawide 21:9 for multitasking and gaming.
@@RTR15Glenn I've been subbed since way back in the day, before Steve started presenting. But yeah this is my first Hardware Unboxed video in ages and they've really upped their game, so much more detail
Thank you, that is the display category I´m most interested in right now and I plan on getting a 34" 144hz monitor in the future. I would also be curious about the iiyama GB3461WQSU as it is the cheapest (that I know of) IPS 34" 144hz monitor.
Does Tim's mustache achieve faster ISP speeds out there in Straya? Or perhaps his mustache can sniff out a great deal with IPS monitors? I hear Tim's mustache can "feel" monitor color accuracy and refresh rates.
This is the best ultrawide VA monitor and it's very cheap. Xiaomi doing good job with everything, congratz to them. I'm checking out every 34 inch ultrawide option lately. So far i've found out that 34gn850 really good but it has ips weaknesses. Msi mpg34 is overpriced as hell and has only 2k contrast. All other VA's pretty slow when it comes to response times/overdrive implementations. This Xiaomi makes good compromises. Have amazing contrast ratio, good overdrive and ok response times, nice wide gamut (not excess like nano ips but not muted like srgb either) and nice pricing. I will try to get this one. Thanks for your great reviews Tim. Know this, a lot of people really appreciate what you are doing. You are also improving yourself everyday. Compromises/goodness ratio is pretty good with this one. Uniformity is a bit concerning though.
That depends on where your from. For Australia the Xiaomi is consistently less than 300gbp and the lowest in recent times was 270. That's if we get local stock. If we import directly from China it can get to around 240.
@@mikkodoria4778 I've had a few Xiaomi phones and they have been very good. Still have a Redmi note 6 pro. Still runs like new after 2 years. Has the same performance and battery life.
Xiaomi is a multi-product company, they have so many product range, including TV, rice cooker, watches, speakers, phones, motorcycle, and home accessories, I have been using xiaomi phone for almost 3 years, my opinion is, it is pretty durable..
after watching this I went and bought the monitor, and I have to say Im stoked. For the price the picture is amazing and it just took my gaming to the next level.
I really hope you review the Gigabyte G34WQC and The Monoprice Dark Matter 34in, those are the 2 last monitors in my shortlist and this is the only channel that provides all the info I need to make my decision. Keep up the great work!
How is freesync working with this screen? I have tested the AOC CU34G2X and Iiyama GB3466WQSU both have freesync flickering when the fps and screen refresh make bigger jumps. (for example 60-100 fps range) This is very annoying and unusable when playing RTS games. For shooters it's fine but with RTS you clearly see the screen flicker. Both are VA panels my Asus MG279Q has no issues at all with 57-144Hz freesync range no flickering at all. Tested it on a 5700XT RX480 and 290X always the same results :(
This monitor looks great but here in Canada it sells for a lot more than other comparable monitors. For example, the monitor sells for CAD$700+ on Banggood/Alibaba whereas the 34 inch Gigabyte that was released recently costs around $550.
@@Alexandra-ek7kh That's definitely a good price for this monitor, not taking into account the currency exchange rates and whatnot. To be honest, I like the Mi 34 a lot more than the Gigabyte mainly because of its minimalistic design, however, I cannot justify the additional price just for a better looking monitor. It's also a little painful for me to see the prices of monitors/components go down as I built a custom PC last year thinking I got the best components for my money only to realize that the new products coming out this year will perform better at a lower price (both GPUs and monitors) :(
@@CrashForce Prices for computer parts will keep fluctuating up and down any time. What matters tho is if what you have right now serves up the purpose for which you bought it. You don't need to be sad if there's a better option in the market compared to your current model. @@blurri_10 Yeah I totally agree with what you said there. I honestly haven't had any issues with my current components until I downloaded Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. For some reason the game looks pixelated on my monitor unless I were to really zoom into the aircraft. Aside from this minor issue, the sim is also pretty hardware intensive as it often drops to well below 30FPS at high/ultra settings or when I'm travelling at a high rate of speed. The biggest problem I find when it comes to buying certain parts like monitors and GPUs is that you can't buy one high end component without the other component being high end (i.e. RTX3080 requires you to get a 4K screen to fully utilize the GPU for what it is) as well which can take a hit on your bank account sooner or later.
@@CrashForce exactly lol. You decide on a build, feel that you could have chosen a better GPU and BOOM. Everything that you decided goes back to zero lmao. About to watch this on my Xiaomi.. bought it last week and already love it to death. If you want cheap 1440P high refresh rate gaming get this and a Vega card, runs Modern Warfare like butter!
Purchased this monitor via their official eBay store ($579 delivered) and am very happy with it. Can vouch for build quality and design, you get a lot of monitor for the money and 34" is great for work and games. I was totally sold on the LG 34GN850 but at approx. $1,000 AUD more and limited availability, I took a chance on the Xiaomi and it paid off. I used the $1K to pre-order a PS5 and will put the rest toward the purchase of an RTX 3070.
I have to say it's refreshing to see a review where the reviewer actually bothers to measure and test the unit rather than giving a verdict based on a visual inspection. While subjective impressions are a good thing to have, reviews giving nothing more than opinions on hardware are worthless. And when it comes to video and ESPECIALLY audio, these are all too common. Common is also the lack of knowledge of the devices and their important measurable qualities when the units differ from frames or megabytes per second.
@ They're probably talking about ads on phones. It's easily disabled though. Xiaomi hasn't got in trouble when it comes to privacy yet. They're aiming for SEA/Indian market.
@ No, Google does look at your data, and many other companies do, but the difference is that A)It's baked right into your phone's system and basic apps like settings, calculator or gallery or whatever. So it's not like Google which you can just not use, and B)It's based on China, and as such it has to comply with the CCP, so that's bad. Fortunately you can just block the adresses of the servers they use for data collections with an app, or you can just install a custom rom, and voila. And they have actually been in trouble about how much data they collect, not unlike tiktok, so if you care, and you should, you should be aware, there's articles about it in quite a few publications.
Just so people are aware, I love this monitor but it has overshoot / inverse ghosting issues in some games, namely Pillars of Eternity, Day Z or Stalker COP. I think it is great for the price, it has amazing deep blacks and colors, less ghosting than AOC 34G2X, but more inverse ghosting or smearing. I have come to learn that most monitors are "defective", they will have dead pixels, ghosting, inverse ghosting, washed out colors, poor blacks, poor contrast, backlight bleed, ips glow, etc etc. So stick with the one that has less issues for you. I say this after having returned 14 monitors (I am not joking) and 13 of them had dead pixels, the one I kept developed a stain of dust after 3 months and also returned it. And it isn't bad luck (stop excusing manufacturers poor QC), I bet most people don't notice they have dead pixels, some people would be surprised. Not saying it's impossible, but most of them aren't looking hard enough.
I bought 2 of em for around $310 USD each(840SGD for both), been working fine. I don't get why people are saying it's more expensive than AOC and gigabyte and whatnot, you just gotta use the same sites the Chinese use to not get ridiculous mark ups. The cheapest way to get it in the states would probably be using taobao(not banggood or alibaba), and getting it from the official MI store. Product itself only cost $300 usd.
i went to mi store in funan yesterday and the price is ridiculous 849sgd. I told the staff that lazada price is only 535sgd. Now I'm waiting for the 11.11 lazada sale to get it below 500sgd. BTW how is your monitor after 1 year of using?
Never clicked so fast in my life. Wish I had this power on the RTX 3080 Launch day to buy a card to review on my channel XDDD BTW, that is one hell of a moustache

Xiaomi has always made some nice electronics(outside of phones which is what they’re known for). They had some nice earphones that I used back in highschool and i read reviews on their early android tablets back during android 5.0 days. Wish they would make a higher end version of this with that 21:9 HDR 144z panel that acer and asus use in the x35 and pg35vq, respectively.
I'm waiting for Xiaomi to enter the monitor market here in India, I need a second monitor that doesn't cost an arm and a leg this or the cheaper 24 incher is exactly what I need. Thank you Tim, I needed a review form someone dependable like you❤️

eyyy I just got this last week, pretty amazing coming from a super cheap 24” 1080p 60hz but ***IMPORTANT*** _this monitor comes with a china-style wall plug, so you’ll need to buy an adapter if you’re not from there or australia_ however my r9 fury doesn’t support the full 144hz, just 100... though that’ll change this coming winter ;)
So I bought that monitor yesterday but it's actually very difficult to look at for longer periods of time. I done some gaming and internet browsing yesterday (just 5h in total), and even with all the calibration done before it did not help. Flicker free doesn't seem to be good. Colours seem artificial. I can't recommend unfortunately.

Got this one delivered last week. I feel kind of validated now. :) Can confirm some brightness uniformity issues. Can also confirm the very nice build quality - the cable covers and channels are great to work with. It's my first VA - I've been using IPS or OLED panels - so there's some getting used to it, but not so there's a problem. It's $450 in Sweden, including the 25% VAT, which at launch made it the cheapest curved 3440x1440, regardless of update frequency. The MSI Optix MAG341CQ has now been lowered in price to match, but it doesn't have the adjustable stand and "only" clocks in at 100Hz.
Hey there, I'm planning on getting the Xiaomi and also currently own an IPS (144hz 1080p) and have never used a VA. Do you mind telling me about your experience in gaming, productivity etc...? Mainly how's was your transition to this VA monitor? Like noticing Dark smearing and ghosting for example? Finally, I hate IPS glow, is that not present in it considering it's a VA? The monitor is only $370 after taxes here, so I'm very tempted to get it. Thanks in advance for your opinion :)
@@Bearded.Stranger Every now and then I look at a dark video with perceived smearing and immediately think, "oh, there's the VA smearing", but those videos look similar on my OLED. I think I'm just reacting to it on the Xiaomi because I'm expecting it. I've never really been bothered by the IPS glow, but I don't think there's any at all in this VA. I'm using it in a dark(-ish) room, with a lower-than-max brightness setting. I've been working from home for the last 7 months, and been using my OLED TV before buying this one, so I'm comparing the Xiaomi more to the OLED than to my work monitor (Dell 3440x1440 IPS) or my old personal monitor (LG 1920x1200 IPS) - but it looks good. Gaming-wise, I desperately need a better GPU - my 1660 Ti has no chance of handling 3440x1440 at 60+ fps. I will be looking at a new GPU in spring, provided the less power-hungry models drop - Geforce 3060 or Radeon 6700, maybe?
@@c99kfm Thank you for the reply. Based on your input I think I'll just go for it, as everything else that's appealing to me is $700 and more (Odyssey G7 & LG 34GN850). I considered an OLED, but they only come in massive sizes to even consider for daily usage. I feel currently with monitors you hit the diminishing returns quickly past the $400-500 price range, so the Xiaomi at $370 seems like the 'sensible' choice until monitors have OLED at a reasonable size and price haha. Good luck with GPU hunting the new ones are very promising for 3440x1440. Been working from home too for the same period, hence I'm upgrading my monitor since I'm building a new PC, got a 3080 ready waiting on a processor.
@@Bearded.Stranger Yeah, the OLED I'd been using is my 55" TV. It worked great, but I prefer the ultrawide aspect ratio for productivity. I might've tried a 3840x1600 ultrawide, if they were available at a reasonable price, but 3440x1440 has worked at work, and I'm quite happy with it at home now, as well. I might consider shelling out the $7-900 price range for a 3840x1600@120Hz OLED in ten years or whenever this Xiaomi stops working. It depends a bit on how my OLED TV works out, with burn-in and so on. With a 3080, I'm fairly certain you'll max out your new Xiaomi and will be very satisfied with your gaming experience. Game on! :)
As a fellow Aussie who just set up one of these badboys on a vesa arm, along with owning 2 Xiaomi phones over the past 4 ish years, a xiaomi electric shaver, and a xiaomi dash cam.. I am a huge fan of their quality, reliability, ease of use and price within Australia. Every item so far has been bought with my own savings and I'm sure I'll grab more from them in future.. when the price is comparable to generic brand knock offs of questionable origin, yet a build quality that has never failed to impress, I seriously can't fault them
@@GoGito Huh, that's interesting I just saw the Verge article that mentions the 120Hz limitation Don't know for sure though as I've never bothered to use G-Sync myself and didn't see any other sources that test it.. plus I have trust issues with the Verge, it's not always reliable. If G-Sync is important to you then I would assume it only works at 120Hz to be on the safe side when deciding on the purchase. It might be true, or you might be pleasantly surprised.
Ohh yey! U have been waiting for this review. Got mine around for $420 all in when converted from local currency. Got a slight speck inside the screen that disappeared over time but very nice for work coming from 1080p. I still don't feel the negatives on the refresh performance as my rx580 is barely getting 60 at lower settings.
Currently 400USD tax inclusive here in the Philippines. Amazing value with biggest downside IMO is the warranty support. :) As usual great review Tim! You covered most technical things that I cant possibly test. :)
I own the AOC CU34G2X , the panel is great, but I really wish aoc went with a similar aesthetic to the xiaomi. I hate red accents on my stuff, and unnecessary branding.
The design and build quality is amazing: simple, clean and no "gaming" design i wish there would be more monitors with a design like this. But after i bought one and played on it i sadly have to say that its not right for me. Theres heavy black smearing and the picture becomes extremely blurry when looking around in games and nothing seems to fix it...(adaptive sync, respons time, motion respons...) I also saw others complainging about this. It might be ok for some ppl and if your using it mostly for work and dont mind that its not IPS panel than its a good monitor. But for gaming it is no fun. So i returned it. Idk but i wish there would be a ultrawide WQHD 144hz TN panel monitor out there... tbh i know that the vewing angles, colors and contrast arent good on a TN panel but from my old benq it still looks acceptable when looking on it from an angle similar to the sides of ultrawide monitors. So maybe ill stick with an 16:9 TN panel or go for a higher quality VA ultrawide or an IPS...
@@Frudu i guess you don't have any complains regarding black smearing with that one? i'm thinking of getting the Xiaomi but if it's that slow that looking around in games is blurry, it wouldn't be the right one for me either.
Thanks for this. I was actually just about to hit the "buy" button, but will consider other options now
do you have complains regarding ghosting / slow response times?
Xiaomi knows how to design their stuff.
Just bought this a few days ago. Its too damn good for its price. I cant believe how well built it is and the color is great. Coming form a 100hz ultrawide the 44hz diff is noticeable in FPS games.

The next monitor review should be Gigabyte G34WQC, as it competes in the same price range.
Agreed. I've been waiting for an in depth review of this monitor.
Exactly, haven't found a single decent review on this monitor
Quick google for my local stores and that model is on back order (not much of a wait though, so near enough to available) at around 15% higher price than I got the Xiaomi for
Both are the same res/Hz/curve/panel type etc.. so I would assume same actual panel in a different shell.
I'd be quite interested to see if it's worth the slight increase in cost.. even if identical though it'd still be great as it's easier to deal with warranties locally with a big brand like Gigabyte
That said, Xiaomi opened an actual warehouse/office in Australia in 2019 and teamed up with small mobile phone repair partner stores around the country, so if I did have issues I can still make a direct warranty claim without any international shipping drama.

For example, the monitor sells for CAD$700+ on Banggood/Alibaba whereas the 34 inch Gigabyte that was released recently costs around $550.
same here in UK too
@@Alexandra-ek7kh That's definitely a good price for this monitor, not taking into account the currency exchange rates and whatnot.

Hey, I was reading about G Sync on this monitor and some people report that G Sync only work upto 120Hz. Is that true?

I have to say it's refreshing to see a review where the reviewer actually bothers to measure and test the unit rather than giving a verdict based on a visual inspection. While subjective impressions are a good thing to have, reviews giving nothing more than opinions on hardware are worthless. And when it comes to video and ESPECIALLY audio, these are all too common. Common is also the lack of knowledge of the devices and their important measurable qualities when the units differ from frames or megabytes per second.

Great hardware for the price, honestly. There's some privacy concerns with their phones, but that can be taken care of without too much hassle.
It also has excellent cable management niche in the stand, with magnetic cover
I got one of these on 9.9 (similar to black friday) in Thailand. Only cost me £250. One of the best purchases I have made in my life. Amazing monitor.

Can confirm some brightness uniformity issues.
That MSI monitor is sold at $830 here in Australia, so it's still a win for Xiaomi
Game on!

Theres heavy black smearing and the picture becomes extremely blurry when looking around in games and nothing seems to fix it...(adaptive sync, respons time, motion respons...)
I also saw others complainging about this.
So maybe ill stick with an 16:9 TN panel or go for a higher quality VA ultrawide or an IPS...
is the ghosting really that noticable? What monitor did you end up getting instead?
@@Hallo81398 Acer p x34
@@Frudu i guess you don't have any complains regarding black smearing with that one? i'm thinking of getting the Xiaomi but if it's that slow that looking around in games is blurry, it wouldn't be the right one for me either. Not sure if all VA panels are affected by this. most budget 144hz+, qhd displays with IPS-panel seem out of stock at the moment
ive had 2 for about 3 years now, they're really nice and worth it
Ppl still waiting for the Dell 165hz/WQHD/Ips display review but you guys seem to not give a shit
Lol They just uploaded it. Relax
I'm still rocking an Acer predator x34a. Do you mind going back to review and compare older models such as mine to see how they stack up to the current crop of ultrawide monitors?
Just watch old reviews and do your own comparison?
What? It has a magnetic cable cover!? Man even my $1500 monitor has the stupid clips.
Is the Gigabyte G34WQC available over in Aus?? Just got mine for cheaper than the Xiaomi, and it has basic HDR, Gsync compatibility, and even a few extra features like crosshairs.
Great review, Mustache Unboxed.
Was waiting on this review from you guys, thanks.
Watching a review of the Xiaomi Mi Cuverd 34 with a Xiaomi Mi Cuverd 34
hey... can you tell me if this monitor is G-Sync compatible?
@@mihcjj i'm using the Mi 34 curved aswell. I can confirm that it's G-Sync compatible! :-)
Michael Hirmer thank you
@@mihcjj It's FreeSync as standard so as long as your nvidia drivers are up to date and can do the whole 'fake gsync emulated on freesync systems' thing then yeah it can.
Not as good as the fancy expensive GSync ultimate screens (obviously), but it gets the job done well enough
@@mihcjj Yeah it is, really liking the monitor very good for the price, yes there is ghosting when you do the ufo test but in game and and using it for normal tasks no ghosting at all
So, in comparison to AOC and Nixeus, which is the best buy, without paying attention to their prices?
