    My only tip for the winter is to fill the soap bucket using hot-tish (not too hot!) water. It seems to improve the effectiveness of most car shampoos in cold weather and also makes the contact washing process more pleasant than if you are dipping your hands into cold hose water. Of course not everyone has easy access to hot water in their car washing area.

      Very good tip! If there's no tap, throwing a full kettle in mixed with the cold water helps too!

      Autoglym polar seal highly recommended if only to save your fingers getting frost-bitten and I agree easy to apply. But you are right - prone to freezing so be carefully if too cold. Wrap your folks 🥶

    May I also add that it's important to try to wash the salt off the underside of the car too. I tend to rinse first and then mix some wash/ wax solution in the mixing bottle of my Karcher K4 . I have a swivelling head that can do the underbody, used on a low pressure setting. It's not perfect, but it gives a degree of protection.

    The steam cleaner for winter is a good idea, I use the sc4 and I have no complaints. The ik foam sprayer with the dry nozzle/tip is also brilliant for winter. You can get a nice layer of dry foam on the surface to allow more dwelling time for surface stains, and it is dry enough that it doesn't saturate the seats. The steamer/dry-foam combo is a must-have for interior detailing in cold wet weather, minimising the worry of causing damp smells and mould

    Great video Heather and some good points on using effective pre wash rather than ph neutral/low cleaning as this time of year a car would general need cleaning more often anyway so a spray and rinse or ceramic shampoo is being applied regularly. This time of year im using car chem ceramic suds and i have found it is much more effective and lasts longer when applied through a foam lance rather than in a bucket, maybe something worth trying 🙂

    I'm getting ready to order some more lotions and potions for my collection. Looking to try out Garage Therapy Zero: Citrus and Koch Chemie Hydro Foam Sealant - just finished my second bottle of Valet Pro Snow Sealant at the weekend which was really good but as you say, it's good to try new stuff!
    Would have tried squid ink and young's products, although unfortunately in2detailing don't stock them and I just like to stick to one store and delivery arriving where possible.
    Gloves in winter though, I completely agree, I use a pair of LeMieux yard master gloves. Thermal lining inside and waterproof and really well priced. The wheel mats are also great for lifting the tyres off the ground for dressing too and minimising scraping knuckles on the ground when dressing them.

    Thank you for the awesome content; your channel is a favorite of mine. 🙌 While I may have missed it, I haven't seen you use rinse less wash like ONR or P&S Absolute on your channel. For winter, I prefer ONR and GYEON Wet Coat for wheels, and GYEON Ceramic Detailer for paint, as Absolute sometimes leaves white spots on my black trim. 😅 When using Rinseless P&S Absolute, I pair it with Beat Maker. 🚗 Regarding your steamer, do you replace the cloth after each car? 🤔 Thanks for sharing your car detailing expertise in your videos! 👍

    Im a mobile detailer in the UK.
    I did one today at a body shop.
    Sprayed it off to get rid of the loose dirt and it froze instantly. The snow foam froze. (Frozen bubbles)
    Gave up and went inside one of the heated booths and did the rest of it inside.

    I tend to use Mitchell & King HD Snow (Alkaline) rinsed off then M & K regular snow to neutralise the car then a contact wash. In summer I use citrus topped with snow on dirty cars. My spray sealant of choice in winter is Auto Finesse Lavish ceramic which I find really good on cars I look after but not my own as they are all waxed. I did use GT Two QD the other day as a drying aid and wondered why I stopped using it as it left my Corrus Grey Metalic paint like a mirror. I have used AutoBrite Direct Ceramic sealant in the past but I didn't find it lasted very long but I will revisit it as I still have a bottle and a half. I still need to try Yum cars products but they do look good. I do like the look of the waterproof gloves but are they chemical resistant or would you use gloves underneath. At the height of Covid I had a frying pan of searing hot oil spill on the back of my hand where I lost all the skin. It healed well but I am careful now with car chemicals with all that new skin.

    Great timing Heather as we are freezing here in Warrington. I think I know the answer to this one but makers of Rinseless products often argue that cold weather is when they can come into their own given there is no or very little water left on the ground to freeze - what's your take on using a rinseless in cold/freezing conditions?

    • @AutoCareHQ
      @AutoCareHQ  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I definitely get the logic but to be honest I always do a thorough pre-wash first and need to pressure washer to do it so if it’s too cold I just have to wait and then I may as well do the contact wash as normal 😂

    Another great video to watch, what is the difference between a citrus pre wash and an all purpose cleaner as a pre wash before using a snow foam, is there a difference??

    • @AutoCareHQ
      @AutoCareHQ  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! There's definitely a bit of crossover between a citrus and APC as a pre-wash. The main difference is that one of the active ingredients in citrus pre-washes contain D-limonene which is quite an expensive raw material. APC's are a bit more likely to be caustic so there's more risk of issues if left to dry out/ not diluted appropriately, but some citrus pre-washes will also contain similar chemicals so it's a bit of a grey area

      It’s most likely that there is some contamination on the glass. Try using a glass polish first like CarPro Ceriglass and then use a glass cleaner to remove the residue. Then you can rinse the car again and go in with Wet Coat.
      If that doesn’t fix it then it’s usually that the wipes are a bit worn and need replacing

      I haven't actually tried BH Auto Foam that high before. I've used it at 4% though in a pump sprayer and it works very well, although a citrus I've found to be a little bit stronger. Some TFRs contain some quite aggressive caustic chemicals which can stain trim etc and if used over a long period of time are likely to promote rusting more than non-caustic options

    I'm not sure why people don't use alkaline foam. All the PH neutral ones to me seem to have less bite and cars i get to do my thing on, are generally left to their own devices under the assumption they will be self cleaning if left exposed to the rain! Guess its horses for courses. Big fan of the pump sprayer and pre-wash (Mile Deep FTW here, not tried The SquidInk). Biggest product for me is waterproof shoes. Found some trainer type ones that actually work and are still watertight 9 months on. I wouldn't be without them (not that I was cleaning cars barefoot before!). I've used them for walking The Pup so I've used them twice everyday even when I'm not cleaning cars). Also a fan of The Big Worm blower. Next on the list for me purely for time saving on my weekend jollies on a car, will be the ceramic shampoo as that cuts another product and stage of the process as I always under-estimate the time I take to do the whole process to my own self appointed (very very high) standards and end p ruushing to meet hte agreed collection time. A steam cleaner has been on the cards for well over a year and I need to do some Premiere seats i picked up for my Type R.
