Such a great reminder of how important the research is. I remember hearing someone talk about sites like dribble and behance as design porn. You don't get anything out of it but it feels good to look at. But all those new connections you gained from researching the career of Harper brought so much inspiration to tell a story rather than just make something look cool.
That's a good comparison I'm ABSOLUTELY going to steal for a future video (if only to have fun with the film clips). But yes this was my main takeaway from this exercise was the magic of research. Doubly so when you absorb it all and let your unconscious brain do the work for you. No time for that on this one though
I saw this on LinkedIn and I thought this was the best out of all 13! I've been trying to animate some mid-modern graphics these days and this is really inspiring! ❤
Thanks! It was a great brief from Marc to work on. You should absolutely sign up for one of his upcoming collabs. Quick though he's very popular these days
Researching Mid-Century Modern for an animated corporate video and came across this. I love your after effects process breakdown. Would love to see more of these. You got an instant like and subscribe for this video.
I saw the whole video collab and your piece is the best in my opinion. I love the match cut and the way you looked ouside the box by intergrating new things related the magazine.
Looks great, nice work - especially when working with the original time constraint. But it's always nice to have a bit of a challenge to lose sleep over - haha. Not really but kinda. 😅
Lovely stuff! I had never found an approachable and convincing method to replicate that Halftone / CMYK Newspaper Print texture. Not for still images. And especially not for video. This one looks pretty good. You mentioned another method that didn't work for you [how can we find it?]. I bet the textured dots were too big, ruining the visibility of the shape layers. Not to mention the small thin text/letters....
Both Ben and Jake have halftone tutorials, both similar if I remember correctly. Also this one (and this channel needs the subs so I'll link to him!) also he has a few other interesting tutorials on different looks which are worth looking at: th-cam.com/video/uDiF7ep7hW8/w-d-xo.html
Guys what is the best method to learn animation like this I have got a very good work station but I noticed that my learning on you tube is disjointed. I need help

I genuinely should work more on such insane collabrations. I learned a lot with this one. on to the next one!
I'm sorry to say you've been banned from all future collabs. So sorry you had to find out this way Rohit x
WHAT???? 🥲🥲🥲
Amazing work! This content is pure gold. By the way, the shape at 6:19 is the base of a Noguchi table.
Ah!! My research was ... sketchy 😆 (where were you two weeks ago??) Thanks : )
some of the best design work i've seen in a while. Bravo.
Credit due to Irving Harper there then

Welcome! "One of us! One of us!!"
Such a great break down of your research, process and reflection on the things you could have improved. Thank you.
Thank you!
This turned out great. Thanks for sharing. Also, I think the mystery shape at the bottom of the original is the base of a Noguchi Table!
You're right! Wishing I'd realised that before [slaps forehead]
I saw the whole video collab and your piece is the best in my opinion. I love the match cut and the way you looked ouside the box by intergrating new things related the magazine.
Thanks! As soon as I realised I could use other elements to lead into the cover itself I was inspired. Took a while to get there
Omg this is so pro! Interesting to see how sometimes decision making can be affected by the pressure, anyway it's really dope, thanks for sharing

I had idea you use 3D assets in AE like that? Truly awsome
Yeah advanced 3D renderer is a pretty new feature to After Effects
You and Ben are my favorite TH-cam motion designers.
Well I'm flattered to be mentioned in the same breath as Ben
