    For the expression controlled letters- I did something similar a while back, but it was an entire lyric video so I wanted to keep everything as procedural as possible. I ended up making a comp with a different paper texture every frame and made each instance of it have a freeze frame at a random point. I also implemented a randomly shaped rect mask and a slight corner pin for both the background and the text. Text was pretty similar to your method but I also added a random simple choker and random tracking. Finally I made sure the random was all timeless with the layer as the seed and made sure to add an override for everything if needed. In the end I was able to make fully animated lyrics in this style for a 4 minute song in about a day- about 1/3 of the time budget for the project, since backgrounds and the chorus were much more complex

      I've never done a lyric video but I suspect you have to be very good and efficient to make it work for the (presumably low) budgets. Sounds like you are!

      @@TheVideoShopLondon Hiding my question in the thread so as not to give away spoilers. Firstly, absolutely loved the video and your work. I just wanted to make sure I got the order of events right-- You contacted Scott to use their music and he said yes in exchange for a short animation. Awesome! You made the animation and they loved it but wanted a little more. You thought, well, to really do this justice I'd have to do a LOT more unpaid work. So then you said, heck "I'll give Scott the files, AND do the work AND make a clickbait video saying Scott screwed me on this. Even though everything is kosher between you two?
      Amazing idea. What does scott think of the video?

    • @TheVideoShopLondon
      @TheVideoShopLondon  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@xandiloquencebizarre First, thank you. For the feedback AND burying this in the comments! All correct, except no, Scott didn't ask for any amends. I just know how these things can go sometimes. The whole "no good deed goes unpunished". I wanted to do what I was able to, hand it over then if he wanted any more he would have autonomy over the project and assets. I said he could still come back to me if he had questions. Or I might even have time in the future to do more. And yes, everything is good. Hoping to meet over zoom in the next couple of weeks (he's busier than I am apparently, haha). He was cool with me doing a clickbait style video and honestly seems like a cool guy with a sense of humour.

    I literally, fuckn, LOVED, this video.
    I was a little confused for most of it because I thought we were moving towards smacking the person you were doing the work for. But then... PLOT TWIST!!! It was all for a good purpose. I am also glad you addressed the using of so many other pieces of footage. That was a nice touch.
    Overall, I am glad I watched it and am now subscribed. I look forward to watching your other pieces, but I must say, this one set a high bar. Keep up the good work.

      It'll happen to almost all freelancers eventually. It's a risk you have to take. I've had clients not pay then worked with them again without them settling previous invoices, but that's a story for another time

    Dude! Your content is so good. I find it really inspiring and informative.
    I’m currently doing something similar to what you’re saying in the vid. I’m doing a personal project, a show reel (also inspired by Spider-Man) in my downtime (after work etc) to teach myself more AE, level up and try and raise my profile at work. I know it’s not a charity or something, but sometimes you got to help yourself before you can help others! 😅
    Thanks for taking the time make the awesome content, much appreciated! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

    To make the ripped paper effect procedurally, I usually copy the layer, ramp curves up to full white and put that layer underneath the original. Then I‘ll throw a matte choker or scale the layer up just a bit and add the roughen edges effect.
    And hey😗🤚, it’s animatable (just remember that cutouts look most authentic with the time posterize)

    Cool video, I'm wondering if the dude who commissioned this had any idea of how intricate of a clip he was getting lmao
    He seems like a local DJ who was just looking to have promo material for his insta, but that being said, anyone who is hiring a professional should always be aware of what level of work you are agreeing to especially if the artist is very skilled because they WILL charge you for their expertise.

  • @carlosmarx2380
    @carlosmarx2380 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Sooo let me get this straight: you wanted to use their music, and in return offered a free design. okay. they did their share of the deal, you did yours. so why are you calling him out? Theres not a single reason to make him look like an asshole for the first two thirds of the video. people who did not watch until the end might think he really is a scammer, when he actually is just a regular bloke who YOU made a deal with in the first place. i honestly think it's a shitty move, especially as a designer who has clients that trust him.
    also I think it's kind of funny you call someone out who didn't do shit, while you are using copyrighted material without permission, wich is a big no-no as well. yes, it's for a small artist. yes, it would have been totally fine if the artist used copyrighted material as a scource for their own DIY work, because it's punk, and punk doesn't need to care about shit like that. But as a semi-paid work? No. And I say semi-paid on purpose, because you were paid in being allowed to use their music, wich you normally wouldn't.
